Gyu-Kaku offers a fun, interactive Japanese BBQ experience with fresh, flavorful meats and attentive service. Silver and Gwenevere are frequently mentioned as providing excellent service. Some find it smoky and parking inconvenient, but the all-you-can-eat deals are popular.

We get lost and stumbled upon this restaurant, it had good service and you Cook the food by yourself and the kids & I love it great family time. We love to cook 🌹
We had excellent experience here tonight, especially the server Silver, he is the best, we will definitely come back!
The total size of the restaurant wasn't big so when some tables got smoky it got really smoky, but overall the food and service was good. The all you can eat deals are definitely worth it.
I have always loved Gyu-Kaku, since the first time I had it almost 10 years ago. But this location is far and away the best quality meat and well balanced sauces I have had. Everything was absolutely fantastic in large part to the whole staff but especially Gwenevere. I came in without a reservation and without a plan, but they accommodated me and got this hungry runner fed after my earlier half marathon. Thank you to the whole team here, cannot wait to come back again! - David R.
Food was delicious they had plenty of vegetarian options. The meat looks so good but I'm vegetarian when I eat out. They serve the food very fast and we did not have reservations but we're seated pretty quickly. Great experience will be back
We ate here for my husband’s birthday and it was absolutely amazing. The restaurant has such a cool vibe and the quality of the food is outstanding. It’s definitely worth the money. I’d highly recommend and it’s very family friendly. Also the staff was really sweet and helpful.
Possibly the best flavour of any food I’ve ever eaten. Service was excellent. Ambience is comparable to any bar/restaurant. You’ve gotta try this place!
I went for the first time and absolutely loved it! We got a combo for 6 people (even though we were only five), and it was more than enough — the food just kept coming! We even had leftovers to take home. It cost $270 total for 5 people, including food and beers, and it was totally worth it for the amount and quality. You cook everything yourself, which makes it such a fun and interactive experience. They offer all kinds of meat cuts — my favorites were the skirt steak and brisket. Also giving 5 stars to the fried rice with onions and beef — sooo perfect. Definitely a must-try! I’ll for sure go back soon and bring more friends and family. It’s the perfect spot for big groups. Only downside is you leave a bit sticky from the smoke, but honestly, no big deal. Bonus: they have an app you can download to earn points and get free food on future visits. Can’t believe I didn’t know about this place before, easily one of the best spots I’ve found lately!
We got the Gyu-kaku feast. It was delicious 🤤 they brought the courses out at the perfect pacing! We got an extra garlic rice on the side and some sparkling sake. Delicious !!! Meats were so flavorful and fresh, crunchy gyozas, the bibimbap rices were so tasty and the Korean soup was nice and spicy.
Would have never known about this place if it wasn’t for DineLA! Did their lunch special and I’m so happy I did. I chose the meat option C which was beef and spicy pork. The portion size was perfect for lunch and I even took a bit leftover for dinner. The service was prompt and they even had my favorite plum wine at a very reasonable $7 HH price. Absolutely would come back! Thanks to the great staff as well!
Fantastic BBQ with great value for money. This is more of a Korean-Japanese style, specially given they serve kimchi-jjigae with edamame on the side. The staffs are super friendly and nice. Parking is not very convenient. They have 1,000cc draft beer from Kirin Ichiban, which is super satisfying. They have separate kids menu. Highly recommend it, but make a reservation. The place get packed up.
The food was great, well-seasoned but the portion sizes were a little too small. This was my first time at a Japanese BBQ and would love to try some more again next time!
Definitely worth a visit if you love good food and fun, dining experience. The meat and the sides are really good. Recommend getting a picture of beer to go with your food. It pays perfectly. And if you don’t drink, even the water taste good here.
This is a take out review. Unfortunately, my DoorDash driver took an extra hour to pick up my order, but I will not factor that into my review. Unfortunately it did impact the overall quality due to my order sitting at the restaurant for awhile. I ordered the Umakara Beef Rice bowl, which came with a side salad and miso soup. A decent amount of food for a reasonable price. The beef had a sweet and savory flavor. The additional sauce packets added an abundance of flavor. My favorite being the spicy jalapeño miso. Gyu-Kaku is certainly more suited for dining in, as you can cook the meat on the little hot pot they have on the table. It’s a fun experience and would no doubt deserve 5-stars. That said, this is a take out review and it was pretty decent. I just personally think I’ll stick to eating at the restaurant.
It's sort of difficult to mess up a BBQ but everything was pretty mediocre. We had the top set menu with multiple dishes. The best dish was actually the giant shrimp, which is pretty crazy for a meat BBQ place! Meat was OK but not mémorable. There was nothing specifically wrong with anything, except the rice had so much garlic in it that, even as garlic lovers, none of us were able to eat it. The soup was of no interest, same for the shredded salad, and the gyoza were overcooked and hard. My Japanese colleagues were equally disappointed. They had been to the Sawtelle branch in the past and found it superior. Perhaps one's better off ordering the dishes individually but I'm afraid I'm not going back to try again...
We made a reservation for the afternoon on Oct 11, 2025. It was for four ppl. Despite having made a reservation, we still had to wait over 10 mins to be seated, only because there was no hostess and no one came to the stand for 10+ minutes. Without introducing herself or letting us know know she would ‘be taking care of us,’ Gwen??’ Took our order… we waited patiently and didn’t see her for a long time. We had ordered rice and the meat had come out, but no rice. We had to ask two different ppl for the rice before we received it. Not only that, we had ordered the Hirami in a pot - which is our FAVORITE - but it never came…. Despite the table next to us getting TWO orders of it while we had our appetizers. Gwen came by and asked if we still wanted it. We were all pissed and said no. It’s extremely hard to get all of us upset, but she managed to do so. It is clear to me that the place is super understaffed and space is limited… but knowing how many reservations you have should give you an idea of how many walk ups you can take. This is the WORST service we have ever received at any Gyu kaku. Your only saving grace was Cristian who had a positive, bubbly attitude all the time and would try to help us as much as possible; but he was not a waiter. He completely went above and beyond and should be commended for keeping a smile on his face, being cheerful, and checking on us… more than our waitress did. Gwen was not cheerful, welcoming, cordial, or personable AT ALL. If that’s the vibe y'all are going for, you’re succeeding at it. We usually spend $75+ here. This is the first time we have spend less than $50 a person, declined more alcoholic beverages AND declined more food. Only because we wanted to get out of there. So sad.
Gyu-Kaku is a Japanese BBQ franchise. I am from Japan and tried this location for the first time today. Frankly speaking, I was very disappointed. Compared to one in Japan, quality was much lower, hospitality was not good, and the price was three times higher. What they show on their menu was not delivered to me; what I got was very unprofessionally sliced junk. This one is located in the U.S., so I tried my best to be mentally prepared, but still I was horrified. I would never come back to this “Japanese“ BBQ place. I should have stuck to KBBQ in LA.
