LOVE IT HERE! This place has amazing dishes!!! I’ve been coming here with my friends for a long time (usually after band competitions). The hot and sour soup is delightfully tangy, the pork belly is tender and flavorful, the braised string beans crunchy and tasty! The food isn’t inauthentic but still appeals to western palates. Always great service, the servers are kind and happy to recognize familiar faces. Please support Chinese restaurants!
The best Chinese restaurants of all of LA!! A little gem inside this strip mall creates delectable flavors! The portions here are great for sharing, so I recommend you get a few options and sharing. Don't forget every item on this menu is delicious. You won't make a bad decision! Don't forget parking is a little tough but like all of La so be mindful of the parking lot and the signs around! If you do order online for pickup there may be a 5-minute wait so either way in your car or there's some seats inside.
Authentic dishes , generous portions, good prices too. Egg white fried rice, Any of their congee is a great choice for breakfast the next morning, tooth pick lamb ( so bomb).
A staple of my family for years and years. Food I crave and even though we live further away by a bit, it’s a 20-25 minute drive I gladly make to know I will be eating some of my favorite LA take out. Eating in isn’t bad either.
I arrived at 10 til 9 and they were friendly. The restaurant is quaint and warm. I ordered the duck on rice. The duck was cooked well and the rice was just sticky enough to enjoy with chopsticks. Overall a great experience and good value.
This place is legit!! the chinese food is super yummy and full of flavour. Service was friendly, fast and they even packed up our food for us. I havent had chinese food this authentic in LA since i came here from Canada 😅 Best part is, parking was free!! 😂
Hop Woo, your Chinese Food Destination on the West Side💣 🥘 if you’re looking for delicious and authentic Chinese food on the west side, Hop Woo is your Go-to spot. From Szechuan to Cantonese Cuisine, Hop Woo understands the assignment. 👍🏽 I ordered both spicy and Cantonese dishes here and all of them were very tasty. The fried chicken was absolutely 🔥, great texture, great cut, great flavor great everything. Ong Choi amazed me and it showed the how they managed to present a Cantonese menu. The crispy skin of Roasted Duck surprised me yet with great joy. Fish fillet in pickled soup stole my heart, sour, spicy, sweet, well-balanced! 👨 The team there are very helpful and quick. They spoke multiple languages which was cool! 📝 if I could make a wish, that would be I hope one day I could enjoy a wider dim sum menu at Hop Woo!!
Hop Woo Restaurant is a fantastic spot for authentic Sichuan-style spice lovers! 🔥🌶️ Their spicy chicken is bold and flavorful, the lamb chops are perfectly seasoned and tender, and the fish soup is rich and satisfying. 🐔🥩🐟 Every dish delivers that signature numbing heat and deep, authentic taste. A must-visit for anyone craving delicious, fiery Sichuan cuisine! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Affordable price compared to similar restaurants. Small free parking lot in front.
We’ve ordered takeout from this restaurant numerous times, but this was our first visit in person. The atmosphere and service are fairly standard — though we did notice a few flies occasionally flying around the dining area (not in the food, to be clear) — but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. When it comes to Sichuan cuisine in the West LA area, this place is truly top-tier. We ordered the Griddle Cooked Cauliflower and the Green Peppercorn Fish, both of which were exceptional. The cauliflower was deeply flavorful, seasoned with rich aromatics and enhanced by the savory intensity of pork belly. The fish fillets were fresh, thinly sliced, and perfectly tender. What really stood out was the use of three different types of peppercorns, which created a layered, complex interplay of heat and numbing spice. Portions were generous — easily enough to serve three people. In addition to their authentic Sichuan offerings, the restaurant also excels at Cantonese dishes, making it a rare and irreplaceable gem in West LA’s Chinese food scene.
I've been coming to this place since 1999. It never disappointed me so far. Spicy salt pork chops are my favorite.
Very good standard Hong Kong style lunch. Tea is just from a tea bag but food is fresh and flavorful. We had the lunch combo which makes it very affordable. 3 combos for $45

Very authentic and delicious Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine. Everything tastes amazing and the prices are very reasonable. We’re so happy to have this restaurant nearby, and we highly recommend it! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼❤️❤️❤️
Food is great service. Not that great. They take forever to serve you or even to bring you a drink. They need more staff

After being pleased with the quality of our takeout before, we dined in late on a Thursday night and had a nice dinner. Decent ambience. The waitstaff was a small handful of people, but they were eager to please. Reasonable prices. Definitely a reliable choice for Chinese fare.
It's been a while since we do dine in here. The restaurant apparently has changed hands. The old folks are not there anymore. The standard chinese dishes that I use to compare Sichuan Chinese restaurants are KungPao chicken and Mongolian beef. They are a notch lower than before, but still pretty good for WLA area. Reviewed again 07/22/25 The place seems to improved. I do recommend this place now. Price factor and quality of food improve.

I ordered kung pao chicken that comes in a pretty small case for 20$ without rice. While the food was pretty good, the dish consisted of mostly onions on the bottom and throughout. I personally don't feel this place is worth the money.
The food is good, they have a large menu. The service and the entire eating experience is atrocious. It is hard to even find a wait staff to take our order, we had to go find our own water! The food arrives randomly and they are annoyed that we wanted the ma po tofu without meat. Our sense is they have tons of to go orders, and were more interested in them. If you want to eat here, maybe order to go.
The duck and claypot fish were delicious. The chicken fried rice was good but barely had any slices of chicken, if any. The salt and pepper pork chops and squid are good Peking duck is good. The pan fried noodles are too wet without any flavor. Shumai is not fresh. It’s from frozen. Portions have shrunk over the years. Not consistent flavor either.

pretty good food but funny experience there one time. the tall skinny waiter was super nice, all smiles and very friendly to a table of Chinese people but whenever he'd come to our table his smile would turn into a bitter frown

expensive, small portions a real disappointment on flavor I think panda express has better flavor( even been a fast food restaurant),I usually going to Chinatown to eat but I see this on the area so I thought leys givenit a try hopping that it will be something similar at least on flavor but not its a real disappointment, I don't recommend the place
This was not the Hop Woo I remember. For $65 for hot and sour soup, vegetable foo young, chicken fried rice which was all bad. The vegetable foo young g was the wrong, 3 football size foo young not fully cooked. Too much ‘binders’ and not cooked completely was just a huge ball of gunk. So disapointed

Bathroom REEKS of urine 🤮. Food portion is atrociously smaller than before yet the price has gone up by 70% than pre COVID. Waiters act weird and caught one of them watching p*rn in the restaurant on his phone. We had to ask 4 times to get water , and another 5 times for the tab. This place is a pathetic joke 🤢. Read all the bad feedbacks and don’t say we didn’t warn you.
I picked up a delivery order at 7:14 pm. The pick up was scheduled for 7:20 pm. They only delivered the order at 7:57 pm. The app platform gave me a violation because it thought I was taking too long with the order on purpose. This restaurant always takes too long. Every time it's the same. 50 minutes waiting for an order...
Worst spicy fish with terrible portion. Have been eating the bean sprouts (and finished the only few pieces of fish) and there is still more than half bowl of it. Despite the amount of filler, it is also the cheapest way of doing it. Other restaurants would at least use napa cabbage, bamboo shoots, celery or something else. This is 80% bean sprouts as filler.
I rarely leave bad reviews, but my experience at Hop Woo was disappointing enough to speak up. From the moment I walked in, the staff barely acknowledged me—no greeting, no eye contact, not even a simple "hello." The atmosphere felt cold and unwelcoming, and it only got worse from there. The service was rushed and borderline rude, like I was inconveniencing them just by being there. It's a shame because the food might have been okay, but the attitude completely ruined the experience. I won’t be coming back.
Regardless you like food here or not, if you want to have a pleasant meal, try not to come here during busy hours. They are very busy and they don't know how to handle customer properly. When I came here to pick up at the time promised, they let me wait for another 30 minutes. I don't think the waiters did what they are supposed to do, they think kitchen is busy and they cannot do anything at all. Is it right? At least, you may make sure the dish is on the stove as it is already late from promised time. Also, the parking lot is a terrible mess.
The service is sooooo bad! We had an online pickup order, and we were not sure whether rice was included (we came from other states where Chinese restaurants provide rice for free). Unfortunately, we had to order rice for a not cheap fee, and the cashier kept complaining about us not ordering online in advance. We were very frustrated about the experience. Will never come back again.
They make good food but wait time is insane. Don’t go there unless you are ready to wait 2hrs for dishes. We ordered 5 dishes at 5 and 3 of them were still not ready at 6.30. We called the restaurant to ask why but they are extremely RUDE. They told us that they wouldn’t make our dishes until 20 minutes later and hang up the phone right away.
I don’t care how desperate you are for food in this area at night time, save yourself. How they are passing health inspection I do not know. Bathrooms DISGUSTING and WITH CARPET, unprotected to go containers in the hallway, Everything they serve has that red 40 dye sauce in it. No seasonings in the egg rolls (definitely the frozen kind from H mart) and no flavor at all in their dim sum, chili oil was awful, like no spices/flavor just meat, when they get tired of washing dishes, they serve everything in take out containers. I wish I was exaggerating. Even our drink came in a to go cup. So many red flags. Diabolical diarrhea the next day and we didn’t even eat any of our main dish. We just paid and left. Lesson learned.
Worst take out experience ever. I ordered steam chicken on steam rice and the greens has mud in between the leaves. The chicken still raw and bloody around bones. The rice also got bloody juice on it as I was eating it. My boyfriend order beef fried rice and he ended up staying on the toilet for the whole day after finishing the whole dish.
I don't know why they ignore me with my order for 15 minutes. Although I came up to them and said that my order is ready. In the end I waited 30 minutes. I see the package is ready, but the employees of this restaurant ignored me and said simply not yet, not yet. Advice to the owner to change his employees who work at the cash register, simply disgusting service!
Update: This Chinese restaurant used to be one of my favorites in the area, and I rarely leave negative reviews. However, my recent experience was so shocking that I feel compelled to share. Upon ordering a seafood fried noodle dish, I discovered an entire half of what appeared to be a fly. Despite my disgust and immediate request for a refund, the restaurant refused to cooperate. Even more disheartening was their dismissive attitude when I tried to explain the situation over the phone. It took translating into Chinese for them to take me seriously. I urge local patrons to be vigilant with their orders, as this incident demonstrates a lack of care for their customers' well-being.
They are extremely rude and Nonchalant. I was just standing in line as a person of color waiting for my order kindly and they refused to speak to me or Acknowledge that I was there. I usually don’t do reviews because I let things go, but I don’t think this was right. This review is coming from an average Joe and I was disappointed. The white guy walks behind me and kindly stands there. The first thing the ask him, is how can I help you. He felt bad and insisted I go first and they still ignored me to help him STILL. Had I not ordered from them already I would’ve left. I’m not sure what there issue is with people of colors, but we are not all the same. If you are black/Latino or Mexican …. Don’t go here. I like to support everybody, but they will not get my money again.

Extremely bad experience. We have waited about 1 hour and the service people told us you have to get a number first. Since they never registered us a number. All other tables had no number just because that single person makes the order for all guests wrong and he wants us afford for his mistake. Pretty sure they should be the worst service in North America.
Place stinks of cigarette smoke. Front desk staff guy with glasses is incredibly rude and lacks any manners whatsoever. Food was horrible. If you want to have a genuinely back experience come here. Fast food would be leagues better of this place and you’ll probably won’t get treated rudely and dismissively. Also, wait until you see how they treat gig workers. Shameful.
