Family-owned John O'Groats is a gem of a restaurant. The dining guests are Los Angeles' finest. I stopped in again today for brunch and spoke with several other guests, who were beyond delightful. The food is excellent and the waiting staff is good, too. The waiters do not tend to ask if everything is okay after the meal is delivered, and no one refilled my coffee, unfortunately. But putting that aside, the atmosphere, the cleanliness, the laughter, the biscuits-and-gravy and the joy all make the dining experience over-the-top. I first dined at John O'Groats when they opened in February of 1982. They have become one of the best places for breakfast and lunch on The Westside. Thank you so much. Breakfast for one runs about $40.00.

We had the bacon cheddar biscuits with sausage gravy, and the potatoe pancakes. Flavor packed and savory. Great place to sit and eat.

I’ve been coming here for a while now, so I can give an honest review. The food is always great especially the quality, the staff are amazing, and you can really tell the place is well run. It’s one of my favorite spots for breakfast.

Wow. I came to this place because of a dear friend who I was supposed to meet for lunch but accidentally came a week earlier for the luncheon. I decided to eat here since I drove all the way, anyway. Everything about this place is good. It is a neighborhood favorite for forty-three years. I sincerely hope you will try this wonderful eatery with an incredible hospitable atmosphere and food.

John O’ Groats ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ From the moment we walked into John O’ Groats, we knew we were in for something special. Paul and his team greeted us with such warmth and genuine kindness that it felt like we were visiting old friends. The hospitality alone set the tone for an amazing experience. Now, let’s talk about the food — absolutely incredible! The breakfast was delicious, prepared with care and full of flavor. But the real stars of the show were the biscuits — hands down the best I’ve ever had! Fluffy, buttery perfection that practically melted in my mouth. They’re the kind of biscuits you’ll find yourself craving long after you’ve left. Between the outstanding service, the welcoming atmosphere, and those unforgettable biscuits, John O’ Groats is a gem that truly lives up to its reputation. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, do yourself a favor and stop by — you won’t be disappointed!

Second time visiting this location. 1st time it was a To-Go order but decided to come back. Both times you are greeted with a Smile and Welcoming attitude. The staff is Super Friendly. I honestly experienced a Family gathering. The waitress remember us from our To-Go order. Weeks have passed and even remembered where we sat to wait. I ordered Señor Donn's Latino Heat. Maybe I didn't like because I even licked my plate. Very tasty with a little hit. The biscuit with thei Jelly, well, your mouth is in Heaven

Finally made this institution on Pico for breakfast. Immediate impression was I loved the atmosphere - the local and family feeling is palpable . Many customers are greeted by their first names and the staff were cheery throughout despite constant crowds arriving. And then!!! The "famous' biscuits arrived (with our mini breakfasts). "Biscuits from heaven" is an understatement. My cheese and scallion biscuit was phenomenal as was my husbands plain one, that I had a bite from with butter an jam. Just yum. How anyone can eat the two biscuits you get, I don't know? But we were very happy to take these home. Thank you Paul and team for my best L.A breakfast experience in quite some time.

Traveling from the East Coast, I found John O’Groats as a good fuel up spot for our day of traveling and was very very satisfied. We sat outside on their patio in gorgeous weather and had a very delicious breakfast to start our day. Their fresh juices and mimosas were great, and the food was even better! We got their pancakes, egg white breakfast, fried chicken, and famous biscuit- we left with full stomachs and happy taste buds. Service was amazing and the owner himself was friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend for travelers and locals alike as the perfect place for breakfast and brunch

Updated review, This place continues to be an excellent spot for breakfast. Friendly staff, clean and spacious and the food is served quickly and hot. The menu has many options, including gluten-free and egg whites only. The omelettes, pancakes, potatoes and biscuits are all delicious.

Forget ihop, forget any other breakfast place in LA, this family-owned restaurant is a must-visit. Gatekeeping this place should be illegal. Amazing place to eat for breakfast and/or lunch. All the menu items are so delicious, and they have low-cal and gluten free options available too. Not sure why so many people complain about a “high price point” here - to put it into perspective, IHOP’s 2eggs 2pancakes 2bacon is $14.29, here the same thing with bigger pancakes is 14.75, so you’re getting far beyond the value for your buck. Everywhere else the quality is either not as good or is way more expensive. I really recommend their butterscotch pecan biscuits which are done perfectly, great crust on the outside and hot gooey and fluffy on the inside. Their fried chicken honestly exceeded our expectations, the batter is so crispy and light and the chicken is always juicy. We always get the cheddar bacon waffle with it to make our own chicken and waffles. The owners and serves are all so lovely as well, you can really tell they love their work.

Best pancakes I’ve had in a LONG time. I got the buttermilk but I def wanna try the applesauce pancakes next time. 🥞 Bacon was good and the eggs were done over medium. Just how I like them! 🍳 🥓 Also, staff was really nice 😊 100% will come back to try all their shiz. What we ordered: - buckwheat pancakes w/ 1 egg & 1 slice of bacon - buttermilk pancakes w/ 2 eggs & 2 slices of bacon - 1 fresh squeezed OJ - 1 tea Price: $38 total

This is definitely one of the best breakfast places in town. Decades ago I used to come here every weekend. It was a small shop then, but it has continued to expand and is now a great place. The taste has not changed. The prices have gone up a bit though.

An absolute gem. We had an amazing experience from the very beginning. Super delicious breakfast (with a lot of great vegan options and substitutions), genuinely friendly staff& owner, and very cute decor and patio. It had such a unique and friendly vibe which is rare to find in LA. I can't wait to be back soon.

Firstly, some cultural translations for the Aussie: the US biscuit = scone, because what we call biscuit  = cookie in the US 😆 We came here to have an American dining experience and the menu definitely ticked this box. There was a 20 minute wait to get in, after which we chose from an expansive menu. Having pancakes with scrambled eggs and a sausage patty was a new combination for me. The two pancakes were so enormous I gave one away and still didn't finish the remaining one. As a combination, these three were a bit bland for me. We also had the Three Amigos Biscuits to try and these were tasty. I liked the Cheddar and Bacon one the best and the Maple Pecan one was a good dessert. The place was packed for Sunday brunch, offering a lively atmosphere. Service was efficient to cater for the large crowd. Given its location, this is a neighbourhood gem for the locals.

Four stars because the scrambled eggs were dry and overcooked. We arrived at 9am on a Saturday and we were seated immediately. This is a quaint breakfast and lunch place which started in the 1980s and now their son has taken over. The menu has a very nice story of this family who started John O'Groats. I love that! The decor is blue and white, homey kitchen, nothing fancy, but cute! The staff here worked hard. They were busy, but we needed to ask for another set of silverware twice. I needed to ask for a refill on my water. The owner was overseeing everyone and everything, but smiled when I asked if he was the owner, which was a nice touch. I am so glad this family owned restaurant survived the pandemic. Their bisquits are crumbly, warm and yummy, especially with their strawberry jam and butter. My Dector Special has artichoke, shitake mushrooms, goat cheese and ground beef and it was a dry and overcooked. The portion was generous, but the ingredients needed to be chopped down a bit for bite size. My friend ordered the Baxter which was tasty, but her scrambled eggs were dry and hard too. My other friend created her own omelette and she said it was yummy! Overall, everything was fine. The atmosphere, nostalgic, the staff worked well together and were attentive. There is a TAKE OUT area which was very busy!

A really delicious breakfast location, with great service, but a bit too inflated pricing. As many other reviews have mentioned it is overly pricey, however, that’s really common in Los Angeles. They have a lot of great options on the menu, and I can tell that there are many locals that constantly dine in the restaurant because this morning when we went, it was very crowded and there were many people waiting in front of and behind us. There is no parking lot so you will have to find street parking, which isn’t too difficult in this part of town. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, but today was our first time dining in, and we chose brunch. Everything we ordered was very good and I would definitely go back in the future to try their lunch options as well. Today we ordered Eggs Benedict, which was good , but the hash brown side was fantastic. I highly recommend the hashbrowns. I got a side of avocado and it was about a half of a half of the avocado, so I wish that side was a fair portion. We also tried the Cheddar and Bacon Biscuits, which were honestly very good and worth getting. Overall a very good breakfast spot, although a bit too pricey for what you get in return. I would recommend and try again in the future, although wish their pricing was more in line with other breakfast places close by.

I got their Famous Fire Chicken lunch. Here is what i got. The batter is thicker than my winter coat. The fries 100% re-fried.

Been eating here for a couple of years and it's just sad how the quality has gone down. The 'biscuits from heaven' writing on the wall outside of the restaurant feels almost comical now. Used to be a legit 4 1/2 star place... Now it's just 'meh'.

Not thrilled with this place. We had a really long wait time despite several open tables, and once we were seated, our food (one french toast combo and one pancake combo) took over thirty minutes to arrive. The couple next to us was seated after us and literally was paying for their meal and leaving by the time our food even arrived. It also took a long time to get the check because our waiter disappeared. We eventually got our check from someone else, and I couldn't even review what I ordered on the receipt. At the same time, she was hovering over me while I put in the tip on the digital card reader. It was an 18% minimum tip, which felt high for the service we were (not) given. It was also noisy and there was no air conditioning on a hot day. The food was decent but the prices were very high. After tip and tax I paid $60 for two people. I don't plan on going back.

My boyfriend and I are visiting from Palm Springs California and saw this place online. It was under a different name so we were surprised when we arrived. We ordered the French toast with 2 eggs and 2 bacon, and the senior Donn’s Latino heat as a burrito with fries and a pancake on the side. The service was okay, our waitress was nice at first. Our table was extremely sticky for some reason though. The French toast, bacon, and pancake were delicious. The pancake did take like just add water pancake mix but I’m not complaining. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the flavor of the French toast was divine. However, the burrito was not good. They used an underripe raw jalapeño and chicken sausage that was very under seasoned. The burrito was extremely bland and despite saying it would be spicy, was not even a little bit spicy, and I’m sensitive to spice. As well as this, it was a very small burrito. The fries were actually country potato’s, which normally I would not mind, but they were also very very under seasoned, they were cooked very well though. The tortilla was great on the burrito though! Very soft and chewy, with great flavor. However, my biggest complaint is how expensive everything was for how little you get. We paid $65 for 2 people. The menu was not clear at all and said that it was $16.95 for the burrito al a carte, but since I got the pancake and fries, she said it would be a $6.55 total upcharge. By the end of it, she had changed me $27.50 which was not correct according to the menu. When we asked her about it, she was very rude and kept telling us that the menu didn’t say that, despite literally showing her what it said. They did not offer to help and only gave us a 10% off card, which since we live out of town, we don’t plan on using and I don’t think I would return either way. The food was not good enough to be $65+ Unfortunate situation. Cute restaurant, great atmosphere other than the sticky table, and my Arnold Palmer was perfect. Disappointed that we were overcharged. Edit: I found a menu on someone else’s review as I did not get to take any photos. I circled what it says. When I ordered, she did inform me the pancake would be $5 extra, and the fries were $1.55 extra. Despite this, the total should have only been $23ish, but we were charged $27.50 for my meal.
