Opinions de shintaro Los Angeles
Very good. Really amazing good considering the area is full of overpriced tourist places. This is a warm welcoming, friendly, family place.
My time at Shintaro with Marvin wasn’t just a meal—it was a revelation. Marvin isn’t just a sushi master; he’s a culinary poet with 20 years. His creativity knows no bounds, and his generosity? Unmatched. I shared my cravings, and he crafted plates of sushi and sashimi so daring, so exquisite… One standout: Delicate yet thick buttery slices of toro and uni, cradled on a shiso leaf—a flavor explosion ! Ask for Marvin. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you forever. 🎐✨
Don’t let the outside fool you, the inside has nice lighting and a really enjoyable atmosphere. The food is excellent! We had miso (above average), the green beans (spectacular), and a verity of different sushi (all of it prepared perfectly and with attention to detail. The prices are reasonable and the service was very good. We highly recommend if you’re in the area looking for a meal!
Been coming here for years, and I can confidently say it’s the best sushi in LA. Half the price than the higher end spots in the city with far fresher sushi. Koti is the sweetest— really their entire staff are great! 10/10
5 course sashimi omakase plus a big asahi draft for $100. Incredible deal. Marvin is wonderful. What a gem of a restaurant. Great value, just delicious. Yellow tail, salmon, mackerel, eel, etc. wow.
Surprised the food came out great! It's hard to find in LA nowadays with all the fake marketing reviews out there. We ordered a Shintaro roll, it was really good. Their fried tempura appetizer is probably one of the best I've eaten at a sushi restaurant, lightly battered yet crunchy. Would come back again for sure.
All the food was top quality. Especially loved the tempura: crispy and tasty and love that they serve it with tsuri daikon and well seasoned tensui. Beef teriyaki was ribeye, thick cut, not skimpy, juicy, high quality with authentic delicious teriyaki sauce. High quality, very fresh sashimi/sushi and even the ginger was the best. Also loved the iced matcha green tea. This was our 2nd visit. Both times we enjoyed everything we ate and will definitely be back!!!
Quality consistently great, sushi selection/variety (aji, ankimo, etc) that fewer spots have are flavorful & well presented. Host & sushi chefs make sure you have a pleasant experience. My fave stop before Hollywood Bowl concerts
This location I was told about as soon as I moved to my hollywood apartment - I loved how they make their green beans and very very happy to enjoy their sake and fresh beautifully made sushi rolls. As soon as outside dining opens again ill be there to celebrate this amazing location and its incredible foods. Thank you for what you do.
As someone that love GREAT sushi in the best quality I can tell you this one of the BEST sushi spots in LA! Amazing service, the nicest stuff and the freshest, yummiest fish! My husband and I used to go there once a week for 13 years and it’s always great! Love love love!
Very nice simple place esthetically. It’s not super fancy. Great menu. Great food. Gray service.
Delicious food, great service. We popped in at open on a Sunday before our concert at the Bowl and everyone was nice, the food was fresh and tasty. I highly recommend if you are staying nearby or on your way to a concert!
love this place. ambience, food, service all top notch, complete with a kurosawa movie projected on the wall. the chef's choice sushi set is uninspired crowd pleasers, for a more refined experience it's better to order a la carte. with an extensive sake list and knowledgeable servers this is a quiet place, a somber gem in the middle of hollywood's buzz.
While on vacation from WA state, we walked from the Hilton to this restaurant after doing a Google search for nearby restaurants. The reviews did not disappoint; the service was just as excellent as the food. There's a pretty diverse sushi menu and it was reasonably priced. Very fresh and prepared deliciously.
Great sushi. Service was good, and they were busy. They got the order of the food just right. That's a rare find these days.
Last night's dinner was so good and so fun that I couldn't wait to write this review. Everything piece of sushi was delicious, every glass of cocktail was well made, and every person here was friendly, the whole dining experience here was amazing. Even the chefs weren't Japanese, their sushi tasted a lot better than a lot of better than those Japanese chef's sushi. I can't wait to come here again!
I've been coming here since I first moved to Los Angeles around 2015 and absolutely love it! Hannah is the best and she has smile that warms your soul. The food is amazing,, awesome lunch specials, and very unpretentious but pleasant atmosphere where I bring my dates.. Thank you Shintaro!
Not the prettiest place but delicious fish and reasonably priced. Would definitely eat again!
Friendly and professional. Delicious food.
Some of the best sushi I ever had! The fish was extremely fresh and presented well. I really enjoyed the friendly service and warm atmosphere, a perfect date night. The sushi arrangement (pic attached) was some of the best. From the time we got there until we left, we were very happy!
We had love boards for 2 sushi. Everything was delicious.
First time here. Loved it! We arrived at 5:30, were seated right away, the staff was very friendly and accommodating to me, and my two small children 😀 . The food was very good, and reasonably priced. I would have liked to see a small ginger salad and miso soup come with the entries, but not a problem. We had a great experience, and they weren't mask nazis.
Everything was heavenly! Super nice waiters and good atmosphere- even better sushi! Not a single bad thing my family and I tried. AND TRY THE BLACK COD!! Apparently they import it from Japan. ANYWAYS 10/10!
The food was really good the staff very friendly and polite I love the atmosphere they even had old Japanese movies playing in the wall. I recommend this place 100%.
If you are in the area, look no further. Honestly, is a unique yet traditional Japanese experience with amazing sushi and dishes. Plus the service is great. Dim lights for a great vibe.
This is my FAVORITE sushi! So glad it is in my neighborhood 😊 all the rolls as fantastic! The BS CA Roll is amazing!! All the sakes as really good quality the same as the sashimi!! Can't recommend enough!
I have been to many of the super expensive sushi spots, but this place is one of the best in all of LA! They are very reasonable priced for such high-quality sashimi and sushi. The soft shelled crab appetizer was delicious. Don't judge the book by the cover. I was super surprised by this place
Quality sushi as well as other Japanese foods. The restaurant is very clean, has a parking lot, great restaurant music and old black and white Godzilla movies playing on a big screen. Fair prices for the quality of the food. The miso soup is very flavorful, and has plenty of seaweed and tofu. There is quality fish and ample portions, lots of standard rolls as well as some fun, original ones.
It’s a great option near the Dolby theatre or Hollywood Bowl. It’s located in a small shopping center, we went around opening 5pm so parking wasn’t an issue. The sushi options were fresh and well presented. The service was friendly and attentive.
Ordered the dragon roll and the spider crab roll, plus a spider crab starter Food was delicious and served relatively quickly, which didn’t leave us starving for too long. The staff were very friendly and kind as well and the atmosphere was very chill, and not too noisy in there
10/10 best fresh fish ever! Better than Nobu. This place has fantastic fish quality. It’s going to become my new go-to. The yellowtail sashimi was next level. The albacore sashimi was also great. Highly recommend for anyone who values QUALITY fish and honestly very reasonably priced for this grade of fish.
Came here on a Sunday evening at 8 o’clock and there was no wait. Service was great and the food was amazing. One of the guests ordered teriyaki chicken which was “just” okay. Definitely recommend ordering sushi instead.
This place is a hidden gem. The food is very good and the costumer service is excellent. A little on the pricey side for sushi but it's worth it. The quality of the fish is very good. And the pieces are generous. I got the Salmon and the Yellow Tail sushi and boy my tummy was very happy. The restaurant is very nice. You really can't see that from outside but it's very spacious inside and very nicely decorated. Dim lighting with light colored wood floors and tables. I'll definitely come back to this place again.
The best sushi place in town ! I had a special birthday night with my friends. It my first time here, I'm so happy finally to try here. Service very friendly & Chef very professional! The best plate for tonight is Sea urchin sushi very fresh and so sweet . Hokkaido rolls was unexpected! So delicious. All the sashimi are very fresh and the way that they cut is the perfect slices, It will be on my favorite place for sushi.

Absolutely amazing. The uni was some of the freshest I’ve ever had silky, briny, and melting like butter on the tongue. Every piece of sushi was crafted with care, the rice perfectly seasoned and the fish cut like art. This isn’t just sushi, it’s an experience. You can taste the quality and intention in every bite. A few moments even made me light up with an excited smile.

Casual yet classy sushi place. We had a great server and ate as food was ready. We over ordered and ate too much, which I highly recommend! Yellowtail was awesome and the rolls were great 👍
Good food, but slightly pricey for what the food is and portion sizes. All sushi is now, though. I got the udon, eel don, and cooked salmon and asparagus roll. The udon was good, but not much different from the instant udon I purchase in bulk. The don was good, but $28, and the cooked salmon and asparagus roll was bland. Stick to the classic, traditional raw sushi and you’ll be fine.
Rolls were absolutely delicious. Nice portion sizes- not too big not too small. Tasted fresh & authentic. My only complaint was an $18 roll was missing and upon calling the man who answered refused to admit it wasn’t in my order. After arguing for a bit and getting left on hold the manager answered and said he would give me a credit due to being unable to refund. I accepted & as long as they follow through I definitely recommend getting sushi from this spot.
A bit of a hidden gem really. From the outside it looks super average. On the inside it was actually really nice. The food was delicious and the staff were incredible.
My husband said the fish was very good and fresh. My noodles lacked flavor. I loved that they had green tea flavored mocha and ice cream. Service was a little slow, as waiter would disappear sometimes and in the end we wanted to ask for the check and he disappeared completely. Prices were regular Japanese food price $$ .

I was visiting and decided to try this place because it was close to my hotel and had decent reviews. The service was very friendly and attentive. My salmon sashimi was fresh and buttery. I ordered a special roll that was covered in mayo and eel sauce that wasn’t listed. The quality was good, I just don’t love sauces on my sushi. If you love classic rolls, miso soup and fresh sashimi this is a great spot!
