The food selection is really good for the price. The Chinese food is tasty and less oily than in other places. I'm Thai-Chinese and think that the food there is delicious. The food was fresh and always being refilled while we were there. The service was fantastic from the first step into the restaurant to the last step out. In my opinion, the sushi selection is fair for the price. If you want a bigger selection, you have to go to a more expensive place. My husband and I were happy with the selection and quality of the food. Also, the restaurant was clean and the server picked up our plates quickly. Don't automatically believe the bad reviews - it's worth a try. We will keep going back.

After reading other online reviews about this place that were not good at all, I had reservations about going. We took a large group (about 25). I was so pleasantly surprised! The food was good and fresh! There were a couple of items that weren't amazing, but that happens at a buffet. Our server Deacon was fantastic, as well as the hostesses, who made an extra effort to communicate clearly with some deaf members of our party. It was a great lunch and we will go back..

The Service was good and the food was warm and very tasty I will definitely be back.

I've been going here for years. It hasn't changed much over the years. I think that's what I like about it. There is a decent selection and , the food, almost, always tastes great. It's an excellent choice if you want to gorge yourself with tasty Asian food.

Family favored spot for buffet style Chinese food and sushi. Sometimes the food isn't the freshest, but we have never been turned off by any of the food or service. The staff is always polite and tend to your table's drinks and removal of plates in a timely manner.

Very solid place to eat. It's your typical Chinese buffet, but the food quality is good, the place is clean, the staff are attentive and friendly, and there is a good selection of food. The best part about this place is the Mongolian grill that they have. The food from the grill is absolutely fantastic. The only thing I don't really like about this restaurant is that the fruit bar is somewhat limited. If they add more fruit to the bar, it'd be a perfect 5/5. I would definitely recommend coming here if you want Chinese food; try the fried rice, it's delicious!

Not usually a big fan of Chinese buffets in general but the craving striked today. It is pretty much the quintessential American Chinese buffet, and I must clarify that it doesn't take much to please me, so to the conesueirs of Chinese buffets, it probably isn't quite up to the Grand scale buffets. I don't like the idea of massive amounts of food going to waste so I am reluctant to ever complain about the food being out on the buffet too long. I feel if you want fresh dishes then you should just order it from the kitchen instead of opting for a cheap buffet. With that said, the food was pretty delicious, I didn't have a dish there that I couldn't eat. If fact, I have stuffed myself to Oblivion. I would eat there again. I enjoyed the close atmosphere the staff seemed to have, family and friends run businesses are always more pleasant to eat at to me. I would recommend it unless you are fairly picky.

Surprisingly this place has good food, don't get me wrong, but I was just not expecting it to be as good as it was because of the rating. Food was being rotated regardless of the slow flow of people, food always looked fresh. Server was really attentive and only thing I regret is not having cash on hand to leave her a better tip than the one I left when paying :s. I will go back there more than once, my personal favorites when I go to oriental buffets are always the sweet & sour chicken and orange chicken, both of them were good.

Decent food. (Fried rice was too mushy) A bit highly priced. We had the weekend buffet at $15 per person, not including drinks. Waiter was really nice and attentive. Sushi was delicious.

The food is nothing like it used to be. A lot of it tastes old or was hard. No ac, they had box fans everywhere, and it smelt like sewer so bad! Not what I want to smell while eating! 🤢 The waiter was on point, though, with drinks and taking the plates we were done with.

I'm only rating 4star because it's not my normal place so things are different than what Im used too. Food was great, price was reasonable and the staff are friendly and quick to replace emptied trays.

This is a really nice place. It's clean well maintained, nice places to sit. The food is like unforgiving to the eyes, made me want a little bit of everything! The staff is courteous and professional. The owner truly has a heart ❤ filled with compassion for others, not just in her business, it overflows outside her business as well. I very rarely give any place a 5 star rating, she gets it hands down from me! I'm sorry I don't know her name. I guess I need to mention, they have great food at affordable prices. Thank you China Star for serving the Lubbock area.

we decided to give this buffet another chance finally since my son wanted it for his birthday. i'm delighted to say that food quality was back up even though we came in in between lunch rush and dinner hours starting. service was much better as well! we will definitely start coming more often again. old review: i used to really enjoy coming to this buffet, but lately every time we've been in the quality is a little less than it was the time before. this time, most everything was overcooked - we caught a few items coming out of the kitchen fresh that were overcooked, so it wasn't just being on the bar for too long. the ironic thing was, all of the American choices appeared to be cooked really nicely. i think we'll be skipping this place for a while. maybe when we decide to try again the food will be back up to par.

I'm my opinion, this is the best Chinese buffet in town. The food is decent and warm, the service is great. The building is a little run down. Overall, it is a good Chinese buffet

Probably some of the worst Chinese food I've had in a long time. Noodles were ok. Best thing I had were the iced shrimp. Even my 9year old, who loves Chinese food, said the best thing she had were the oranges and peaches. Sushi was horrible, rice looks smooshed into a roll.

The smell when you enter the building is bad, restroom not we'll keep up & has a smell. Food normally been good but this time my me and my kids had over cooked chicken that was to hard. Staff are good at helping to make you satisfied.

Stars go only to our waiter. Our drinks never got below half full. He was quick to remove our plates when we had finished. He actually deserves 5 stars, but I didn't want to be too misleading with the stars. Good was mediocre at best. Won't be returning.

AC was on the fritz but they had floor fans everywhere which worked really well. Server was nice and friendly. Their sesame balls were really good. The rice roll sushi was very dry. The shrimp in the mixed seafood dish was very limp. The fried shrimp was not staying hot.

My overall experience, customer service wise, was great. The waitress was very nice and courteous and asked us if we needed anything regularly. As far as the dining experience goes, it was middle of the line for me. Some of the selections in the buffet line weren't very warm and my wife didn't feel well after we left. I'm not placing blame on China Star for that, as she already hadn't been feeling well, but I think that the food may not have helped

The food was lacking in flavor. The egg rolls were too greecy. The fruit in dessert bar didn't taste fresh. It seems the grapes in particular were beginning to be over ripened. The whole experience was not bad. I had an issue of being charged 10x the amount for two lunch buffets and the staff at the front desk did everything to make it right.

Overall decent experience. Hostess was pretty blunt. Food selection was good. All was lukewarm which is scary for a buffet. Get that fixed. Young guy clearing tables and refilling drinks was great. Positive attitude and helpful. Price was a bit high for the quality of food.

The lady at the front was rude, but the waiter was absolutely amazing, fast, and delightful. The food was meh. The fresh fruits and ice cream were the best part of our experience. I would've rated it better had I not gotten sick only an hour after eating it. If the food was on the same level as the waiter, it would be 5 stars all around. Sorry.

I just spent $35 for to go food from this place and the lady at the front desk.... Had Nice'nasty demeanor that made us feel like we didn't pay. We are new to Lbk and she lived up to their reputation for sure. Food definitely tasted as bitter as they way she treated us. Not worth the money.

The selection was standard, the food tasted fine, and the service was okay. The floor was pretty dirty and we had to ask for drink refills constantly. The chicken was kind of pink, so we didn't eat it, but we still got sick that night and the next day.

Ice cold ripoff! DO NOT EAT HERE! Note: my server was great and very attentive. First I asked if a drink was included or extra, and told "no it's included," yet was a separate charge on my receipt. In a virtually empty restaurant, after being told they had to 'balance out the servers', the next group (family) got sat in the booth directly behind me. The food? There was plenty of it. One table was cold items, two had what was supposed to be hot food. Only one table had steam coming from it, but everything I wanted was on the other. I had soup, egg rolla, ribs, broccoli beef... The *only* thing hot was the egg-drop soup (delicious) but everything else was at best room temperature - the ribs literally 'made the day be for and still ice cold from overnight in the cooler'. $20 with a $2 tip, only the tip was worth it for the server. When I told the friends I met up with where I ate they all responded how bad the reputation is and named a buffet that is much better.

Wasn’t a horrible experience but I doubt we will go back. $40 for 2 people is insane. We can go to a different Asian restaurant and get better food for half that cost. Food was cold and definitely not fresh, though not the worst I’ve had so that’s why I’ve given 2 stars. For example: my chicken and broccoli was clearly made earlier that day and left out: and it was cold. The wontons? Chewy and cold. I can make better frozen ones! The server (unsure of his name) kept our drinks filled and was pretty attentive. The desserts were awful. Dry, bland, or just plain unappetizing. I left most of my chosen desserts uneaten. Voted Best Asian Buffet in Lubbock? If that’s the best I’d hate to see the worst!

Welllll the restaurant is gorgeous being as it’s a Chinese buffet! The food was very disappointing though. Most of it was old and cold. A lot of it tasted “off” too, like they didn’t rinse the soap or cleaning chemicals off the dishes. I won’t be back.

Wish I had taken pictures of the food. Yes the buffet was shock and was able to find a few things tasted okay. The sushi was the worst I have ever had Sam's club makes better, it tasted as if it was from frozen or been sitting in the fridge for a few days. The craw fish had no seasoning which is no surprise most places don't no how to but I know how to make due, the crawfish I had was the last thing I placed on my plate off the buffet and the first thing I tried once back to the table was cold once I opened it and smelled rotten. The salmon still had scales on it which my husband didn't see any on his. The waitress was friendly and very good. If not for her I would given 1 star. Zero stars is appropriate really. Huge selection, but that might be the downside. It would be better to focus on a few things to perfect them then add other items. Flavorless, overcooked, off temperature. My husband was sick all night after eating there. The one saving grace was the people were super nice and helpful

Food was not fresh at all, we got sick from the food!!! Called the place about 2 hours later and they said that we have to bring a doctors note saying we got sick, for them to even do something??? Be careful when you pay for you food here. They are ripping people off by changing the amount on the tip on the receipt. I went there and got a pickup and gave a 3 dollar tip so my bill should've been 41 dollars and some change but when my bank popped up telling me the total on the transaction, it popped up as 46 dollars and some change. So they changed the 3 to a 8 and added .80 after that!! Don't go there. The food was mediocre and they are stealing from their customers on top of that!!

I don't even want to put a star down for this place has the worse food we found wire metal in the broccoli and their was no air conditioning.. they had fans going on the floor it was terrible hot the food was rubbery and and shrimp was cold rice was hard.. we were a party of six payed a pretty penny to eat here and it sucked the front of the house manager did nothing to help our service she never apologize this place is lucky to not have a law suit on their hands. There is a reason I haven't been here in over 10 years. 90% of what I got was cold. Everything was salty with soy sauce. There was no dimension of flavor for any dish. Both of the chicken items I got (teriyaki, China Star Special) were cold and overcooked. The shrimp was not deveined and overcooked. Egg rolls were cold. Salisbury Steak was salty and had no gravy. The dessert options are minimal now as well as the salad bar...lots of canned goods (pudding, fruit). It was not worth the $37.38 cents I paid for two adult buffets and 2 drinks. The only items at temp were the lo mein noodles and the salisbury steak and I picked the steak from the bottom and stirred the noodles before getting some to grab some sauce. The other thing they put the fresh new food in with the cold old food. They should drop the new hot pan and completely remove the cold old food because there is no telling how long that food is sitting there out-of temp. Wish I had of seen someone with a log checking the Temps but I guess the Health department doesn't enforce that. If you want your monies worth in tasty hot food stay away from here.

My daughter and her boyfriend wanted to eat Chinese I read the reviews thinking this would be pretty good. This place was sketchy, dirty, and cold. The food was really bad and it was so dang cold by the time we sat down the food was no longer hot. We moved tables and the server said I’m sorry you guys, but they keep it cold so people will leave and not eat much. She didn’t care that we were trying to eat and started sweeping the floor around us. My daughters boyfriend asked another waitress for ketchup she said ask your waitress tf really. I took my family here yesterday for dinner. 2 adults and 2 kids. They had the audacity to charge $46 for us to all get water, and the food be old, cold, and just disgusting. This place needs to be shut down. Everything on the buffet looked like it had been cooked the day before, even the "fresh" items they brought from the back. Nothing was warm and everything had a funny taste. This was a complete waste of money. If I wanted diarrhea I could have gone to taco bell for a quarter of the price. The hostess at the front and our waiter were both nice, but other then that this was a horrible experience and I will never be going back! The health department needs to be aware of this before anyone else gets food poisoning! The only thing edible was the ice cream. You shouldn't have to leave a restaurant still hungry ecspesially when they charge so much!

My wife and I visited the restaurant on Wednesday for lunch. We were greeted very nicely but unfortunately the food did not. The rolls were small and hard not the usual big ones with butter topping. The shrimp was old not fresh. Still my favorite place to eat.

$40.01 for 2 people was absolutely HORRIBLE the food was old not fresh at all. Sushi wasn’t even eatable. Every time I went to the buffet I was followed and stared at. Then this put the using on the cake!!! I waited forever to get a drink, so my husband walked up to the front, where a lady was sitting on her phone sitting down. He asked her for a refill after trying to get a guy to help us, but he had ear phones in wouldn’t even acknowledge him. He asked the lady with empty drinks in his hand for a refill. She said sure and literally walked over to the only person I see working his butt off and rudely gets onto him. Sends him over to our table to go get us drinks. Absolutely embarrassed for the gentleman working. What was wrong with her getting our drinks for us???? I will never go back to this place after watching how she treated her staff…. I apologized to the young man drank our drinks and kindly left. I will never support a business that’s gonna treat their employees like straight up garbage…

1 star is being generous for the experience we just had . I will say the front staff was very nice but the downside was the finding of bugs in the rice . I have heard stories of this place and am always on guard when going to buffets especially with bad reputations . My daughter wanted to eat here so we were seated and shortly after gathering our food I looked down into my steamed rice because I noticed black specs ( which looked like pepper at first) and discovered on a closer look that they were tiny bugs . I went back to the buffet to check the rest of the rice and the whole batch was filled with these guys . U could see them whole and their empty shells . I took my plate up to the the front desk to try to be nice and discreet and all I got was a sorry and they removed the rice from the bar . A Refund or even a partial refund would have been nice for the inconvenience of not being able to enjoy my food which we paid good money for . $35 for 2 people to eat and to discover that ..... VERY DISSAPOINTED ! BEWARE PEOPLE. OBSERVE WHAT YOUR EATING FROM HERE . NOW I BELIEVE THE AWFUL THINGS OTHER PEOPLE SAY THEY HAVE FOUND IN THE FOOD THERE .

Roaches we were sat and there was dead roaches in the corners, when I said something they quietly ‘cleaned’ it. When I told the front desk they played it off like oh that must have just happened, but one of the cockroach’s were old and crusty. She said they’ll let the manager know but I doubt that’s true. The food was nasty and the drinks weren’t good at all also what kind of place in Texas doesn’t have sweet tea? We spent $100 and we’ll never go back.

Half the food was soggy the sweet rolls was almost hard as a rock & so was the sweet & sour chicken. You can tell the food has been out there for awhile. The white rice was decent. The waiter we had always checked on us. The lady up front who seated us, we had a hard time hearing her & her greating was hi, not ask us if we wanted to dine in or take out. Four buffets & it was slim pickings. It was my husband birthday & this is was we got. Good luck for the people who go but as for us if we are going to pay almost 35 dollars for two people to eat it should be better then what we got. We wont be returning.

Most of the food is okay at best. Much of the standard Chinese Buffet fare was dry and generally sub par. Other non standard dishes were very hit and miss, the brisket was surprisingly good, but the Crawfish was so bad it made my friend gag. Service was good (I think Josh was our waiter), but overall I was pretty disappointed. Also not exactly a fluke because this was my general opinion after my first visit, and this second one cemented it.

Let me first start off by saying that the lady who rung us out before seating us was super nice. Our waiter was a young kid who was very upbeat and attentive. This place smells like a pet store. It's a hard smell to get our of your nose. That being said I will not be coming here again. Everything was cold, soggy and/or overcooked and bland. The buffet bar was full, but nothing was hot. Nothing tasted like anything but grease and overcooked.

The service, food quality and cleanliness of the dining area have gone down hill over the last decade. I haven’t been in few years because I live out of state. As a kid, I used to like eating here when I lived in Lubbock. This last time I went, however, was such a bad experience. I have had better Chinese cuisine elsewhere. The food tastes as if it was leftovers being reused. The sushi was not fresh. More importantly, after paying for my buffet, which all customers have to do beforehand, I immediately went to use the restroom to wash my hands, which smelled like stale urine (very unappetizing). Afterwards, I went straight to the buffet to begin eating and an Asian woman kept following me and interrogating me as if I had just walked in from the street and decided to eat without paying. I presented my receipt and she gave an attitude and walked away with no apology for her lack of professionalism. I ate what little I could after being disgusted and left angered by the service, or lack thereof. I certainly will not be going back and would suggest that anyone who is considering a decent Asian restaurant look elsewhere.

The food sucked it's was old and cold.. paid $20 a person and had 10 people. WELL NEVER RETURN..

Food was cold chewy. They ask you to pay at the door. For 2 people $38.00. The wasabi had a crust on it. Sushi already starting to turn. Maybe leftovers from lunch…. We dined at 5:00pm.

Service and atmosphere was good. The food was disgusting. Paid $80 for 4 people to eat and we barely touched our plate the flavor was bland, poor meat, unseasoned greasy vegetables... so gross

We got there right after they opened for lunch at 11 am. The bars were fully stocked and looked really good. Unfortunately when we started to eat we discovered all of our food was cold. The rice, chicken skewers, beef & Broccoli, jalapeño chicken, lo mein, sweet & sour chicken... Our waitress was very sweet and apologetic and offered us a refund. We decided to take the refund and go elsewhere for lunch; we didn't want to risk becoming ill due to food not being properly cooked and maintained at proper temperatures. The manager wasn't available. All staff was very kind with the exception of a man in a green vest, he was quite hateful about the refund and was unkind to the woman running the cash register. We will be reporting this to the health department. Hopefully this was just a fluke but we are not willing to give China Star a second chance.

Asian food is not suppose to be over cooked, hard, soggy or bad tasting.This place is the worst buffet I have encountered. The only stuff that was good was the fruit ,some cookies and jello. The worst $60 I have spent

The food selection was limited, and the food was terrible, cold, so it's no surprise there were hardly any people when I arrived at dinner time.

My family came here for dinner. We were a family of 6 plus 3 kids.The lady in the front was sitting down watching T.V and on her phone. My family stood there waiting on her. She looked at us and never got up. A different family came in and she took them. My husband told her what about us. Because we had been waiting to pay and sit and eat. Paying 40.02 for two people. The food was gross. They all wear black gloves and never changed them when going all over the restaurant with them on. Then touching the food. Never again.

There food was not the best didn't have any stickers where a person in a wheelchair can see them and the manager was rude when I call them on it.

Pick a different place, wait staff is wonderful. Food isn’t good at all wasted 70.00 for banana pudding

Worst restaurant I've eaten at in Lubbock by far. All of the chicken dishes are just cut into large chunks of low quality fatty and under cooked chicken. Left most of my chicken on the plate. Should have left the restaurant then and there but I didn't want to go pay for a second dinner somewhere else. I went back to the buffet and got a few beef dishes. I figured since those are cut into thin strips they would at least be fully cooked. Beef is low quality as well and is chewy. Nothing about the restaurant feels particularly clean. I got sick shortly after I got home and vomited several times that night. I had somewhat higher expectations based on the reviews. If your reading this review do your self a favor and skip China Star.

Serious Health & Safety Concerns Upon visiting this restaurant, the conditions were extremely unsanitary and concerning. I honestly could not eat.The food on the buffet was cold and not held at proper temperatures, which is a major food safety issue. I personally observed the main manager refilling the buffet by placing older food on top of newer food, instead of properly removing old items — a clear food handling violation. One dessert (possibly pudding) also appeared old and questionable.Crab salad, a high-risk, temperature-controlled seafood item, was placed on the dessert side of the buffet near Jell-O and pudding, raising serious concerns about proper cold-holding and food safety.The restrooms were freezing cold, to the point where a trash can was being used to hold the bathroom door open. Whether it was placed there by staff or a customer, it reflects poor facility conditions. The toilets were so cold they were uncomfortable to sit on.In the dining area, I witnessed napkins placed on the floor, ( these are the napkins they sit on your table to wipe your mouth with)which is still extremely unsanitary and unacceptable in a place serving food.Pricing was also unreasonable. $14.99 adult, senior $13.99;They charged $5.99 for a 3-year-old child, plus approximately $2 for a drink. When I questioned why toddlers are charged when they barely eat, the front counter staff compared it to McDonald’s pricing — which is inaccurate. At least fast-food restaurants provide appropriate portioning and child options. They also stated there is only one price for drinks, with no child-sized option. To make matters worse, the restaurant did not have proper lids for their cups, and when my daughter picked up her drink, it spilled all over her.I do want to note that our waitress was very kind, attentive, and clearly doing her job well. The issues lie with management, sanitation, and food safety practices.According to the city’s Department of Food Safety, this restaurant has been rated Food Risk Level 4 as of December 15, 2025, and based on my experience, it appears little to nothing has changed. Due to unsafe food temperatures, improper food handling, unsanitary conditions, and poor management oversight, I would not recommend this restaurant, especially for families or young children.

All food tastes bland and like its been out all day I really wouldn't recommend stopping here heck for $40 sonic has way better food definitely recommend going to any of the other food places around here just not here

Haven't been to China star in a long while so we came to try and eat dinner tonight and I must say so expensive to where our food was cold and not even hot ......ridiculous how pricy the food was nasty and cold .....I ask for my refund and took my $75 else where ......sad ...we used to love eating here ...wont be back...!!

I genuinely never leave reviews but I think this might be the worst meal I’ve ever had. Go to the new Taco Bell next door. I’m leaving with 50$ down the drain and an upset stomach. All the meat is really gross, and the non meat foods smell and taste like grandma house (mildew). Save your wallet and stomach and skip this.

Thursday 11/20/25 on or around 6 pm. Payed for all you can eat buffet for approximately $18 charge. I won't be going back. So disappointed. This used to be such a good place to eat. Not this time. Egg rolls were not good at all and food was cold. I tried several different foodd but was unable to find anything worth what I paid except for maybe the banana with artificial strawberry jelly.🙁

I was burn so bad by the brisket food made me throw up after I ate and the shrimp was old and they had eggs there no one said anything when I got it and I bite into it and it was raw got sick after pls don’t waste money here
