Don’t let this quaint place fool you! We visited Sakura for the first time yesterday. My husband and I were the only 2 people in the restaurant at the time (1500). We got the spicy crisp shrimp house special roll, noodle soup with beef, ramen and tonkotsu bone sauce (delicious) and my husband got a bento box with salmon teriyaki, spicy tuna roll, edamame, kimchi and fried rice. Everything tasted fresh and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. We will be back!
I have not been to this place in a very long time and I have been missing out. The food is delicious with great quality and portions.
Don't mind the outside look. Their food is SOOO good. I hesitated when our son brought us there, but, he insists that it is good food. So we reluctantly did. Boy, were we surprised. We will definitely be back.
We often come here for Chinese foods. The foods are very AUTHENTIC. They have very delicious cabbage soup with white fish. I hope they have more customers come and try. Definitely recommend for those love AUTHENTIC Chinese foods.
Authentic. Delicious. Pass up on the Hibachi and venture into the menu to eat the authentic, best food. When it comes to the flavors of China, this place is as close as I've had. You can get Hibachi at multiple places in Lubbock, but if you want authentic Chinese food order the Poached Chicken with Chili Oil and get a side of sticky rice or noodles and chow down. The spices and peppers will challenge your palette in the best way! As a native Texan who loves a good spicy Tex-Mex dish, I'm always pleased at the similarities, but welcomed differences, in the Asian spices. If you like spicy Mexican food, you'll love spicy Asian food, but the key is go for the authentic real dishes, and let somebody else order the Hibachi. Support local, and support this place!
BEST PLACE IN TOWN! Don't let the outside fool you, this place gets 5 stars for everything. The food quality and taste is better than anywhere else in town and we were shocked when the bill came and it was 1/2 of what we thought it would be. Get take out, dine in, whatever you prefer, just get their food in your belly!!
A really great hole in the wall. The food is fresh and everyone that served us was kind and helpful. I had a chicken Katsu bento box that was very good and my sister loved her ramen (there aren’t a ton of ramen spots in Lubbock, so we were glad to find another good one!) Will definitely be back!
The waiter was wonderful and extremely attentive, and the sushi was fresh and delicious! Definitely one of the best sushi places I've ever been, and I look forward to coming back the next time I'm in Lubbock!
The City of Lubbock is sleeping on this Restaurant had absolutely the best services this city has to offer, above all the food was amazing. I had the Tonkotsu Ramen and the Phoenix sushi roll which we’re both appetizing. I hope that this restaurant can get back on its feet after the rough past year we’ve had, please go out and support your local restaurants!
We hadn't been here in a long while (since before the name switch) so one day we decided to drop in when we were driving around. Service was nice, the food was great quality, and I was very pleased. It is still a great place to go for sure!
The ramen is incredible! But what is better is there sushi. Very very tasty and there fish choices are so fresh and flavorful. Very impressed all around with there menu. Highly recommend there firecracker roll! One of my favorite Japanese restaurant in town.
People I know it looks closed but it's not show some more love here the food is fantastic and the gentleman who served us was nice and welcoming definitely will be back.
It’s a little slow but the food is so worth it. I have been here 7 weeks and eaten it 3xs. Steak and shrimp over white rice, it’s soo good. The 3 sushi rolls for 24.xx (ozumo roll was my favorite). It isn’t a super fancy place, there isn’t a bunch of people, but it’s definitely a place I don’t regret trying.
THE CHICKEN IS AMAZING it was very nice the sushi is very good as well, i do i have so say the ramen is bland i wouldn’t recommend but everything was good including the pork dumplings. there wasn’t anyone besides us in there though, very quiet no music but it was nice in a way
This place is amazing. It's the only place in town that does actual ramen. I recommend getting the pork, ramen, and tonkotsu bone broth. Don;t forget to ask for their chili oil which can be applied to the dish to create unique smokey flavor. The owner and his wife are very nice and you can tell he works hard to keep the place presentable. Can't think of a single negative thing to say about the place. Definitely check it out.
More people need to check this place out! The food is great here and the atmosphere is nice. Between my sister and I, we got the takoyaki, spicy tuna roll, lion king roll, spicy pork ramen, and pork udon. All of it was very very good!!!! Very underrated place that deserves many more customers
Excellent service and delicious food every time!
Don't judge a book by its cover. I was hesitant when I parked, but they are the real deal! Having tried several ramens in the area, Sakura has the best broth in Lubbock. Quality rolls as well. I will be back
Don't be phased by the outside. Food is great. We had bento boxes, you pick 5 items. The pork katsu was perfect. I don't know what the orange sauce was, but it was tasty. Inside the place is dark, but oddly spacious and the tables didn't rock. The lady who took our order didn't write a thing down, 10 different items across 2 bento trays. Phenomenal memory as the order came out in 12 minutes perfect. We were in a hurry to get to doc appt so no pics of the food, but it was all pretty! We got to go boxes. The bill was $44 and change.
Great service and excellent food, 9/10. Fantastic interaction with younger children, however please .ind them as the grill is extremely hot. Displays of fire while food is being prepared might startle some younger children, you can ask to be advised when that will occur.
This was a diamond in the rough. From the outside it was very run down, parking lot over grown, and no vehicles. We nearly drove away. I am so glad I didn't. We rolled the dice and went in. No customers at 7pm on a Wednesday night. We went in an were greeted by the family that owns and runs the restaurant. They were so incredibly warm and welcoming. And the food as absolutely amazing. We did two bento box with 8 items in each. The portions were large, hot and fresh. And probably the best and most authentic Chinese food I have ever had. I am typically very picky with Asian food. But this felt like I was invited into someone's home and served an amazing home cooked meal. Please don't let the cover of this book fool you. It was worth every penny and then some.
DO NOT DRIVE AWAY It’s really good food, we almost drove away since we were the only ones on a Friday but it’s really good food and really good price. 10/10 me and my wife are going to be regulars now!
The outside looks sketchy but the inside is very very nice. There's a koi pond and a bridge at the entrance! The food was delicious and had very big portions. The bento box options were amazing. Best cheese wontons I've ever had. Sushi was perfection! The tea is really good!
We are fans of the Chef, she started Yuyos over by Slide and 82nd and we now found that they are working at Sakura and are excited to know that we can get the best sushi in town bar none, best level of quality and the Hibachi and Bento boxes are so good. Closed on Sundays so plan accordingly, and enjoy delicious yummy Japanese cuisine.
Josh the server was simply amazing, he helped us decide exactly what we wanted, while being so very polite. You can tell that he know this food and is passionate about it. The food here is soooooooooooo good. Definitely recommend the pork ramen, it is so savory and tender. The hibachi is very good also, the veggies were cooked perfectly. We will definitely be back soon.
I took my family to a dinner without knowing how nice the place is. The food is very special and tasty and I really had to take my time to burn that experience so I would never forget. This place is a real hidden jewel in Lubbock. Planning future trips with a stop in this place in a hearbeat.
Delicious food great service love this place
Might look a little rough on the outside, but the food was wonderful! Bento box with teriyaki shrimp, spicy tuna roll, calamari ball, cucumber salad, and steamed rice. Topped off with hot tea. Food was fresh and flavorful. Will definitely stop here again!
Looks a bit rough on the outside but once inside it's a whole different vibe. Food is AMAZING and the kimchi is extremely delicious. And the portions for the bento is perfect. Definitely hope this place stays around for a long time as I'll be coming back whenever I'm in town.
This place almost looks deserted from the outside be assembled of overgrown shrubs and peeling paint. Inside it might be taken as a little dilapidated but I prefer to see it as cozy and even romantic. The service was very kind and helpful. Between the two of us we had a noodle dish and the chicken and steak dinner stir fry dinners as well as two appetizers and a sushi roll. (We like food, ok, and we were taking the steak to go for her hubby) Everything looked fabulous and tasted amazing. Even down to the spicy mustard I added to my noodle dish. If you like Japanese food and do not ear here you are crazy! Price for portion was incredibly fair.
Crazy good food. Best beef and rice in the whole town, chefs clearly know what they're doing.
Omg this place was amazing got the calamari balls so good full of flavor, rice was good.noodles yako Sabi so delicious. Sushi so fresh, egg rolls full of flavor not bland at all we got 3 Bento boxes tried kimchi, cucumber salad and crab salad so good! Recommend 10/10
Excellent food and truly an underrated gem. Come here often and the service, while a little impersonal, is always consistent and quick. Sketchy as heck on the outside but you won't be disappointed with the inside.
This place is amazing, best food we’ve had in a while & such a lovely atmosphere. Was completely empty at 7:30 on a Thursday but we’re so glad we tried it. Will definitely come back !
The food here is amazing! We got the bento boxes and they came with so much more than we were expecting. While the outside is dull, the inside of the restaurant is gorgeous. This will be my new go-to place to eat for sure!
From other reviews, yes this place you can tell has seen better days and we were the only ones in there. It is just one of those older family run restaurants that has probably been around a very long time. We are from out of town and my daughter was wanting a place with noodles. She ordered a bento box and I got the chicken hibachi dish. Portions were very generous- I ate half of it. My daughter and I agree that the food quality is good so I would give this place a try if you are okay with "mom and pop". This the building styling looks like it was a real happening place back in the day.
The food and portion sizes were amazing. We ordered a Philadelphia roll, a teriyaki salmon bento, and an order of chicken lo mean. The service was attentive but not in your face. I dropped my fork and was met with a clean one without even asking. The tea served was a nice Jasmine tea and the atmosphere was very calm and quiet. You feel like it's your own personal place. Definitely worth a shot.
Don’t let the exterior fool you, this is a hidden gem. It’s ran by a sweet local couple that are super nice. Me and my wife both got hibachi dinners and it was under $50. That’s crazy value! It was also incredibly good and by far my favorite hibachi food in Lubbock
Food was amazing! We got the hibachi dinners and the portions were huge and the desert was great.
Diamond in the rough. Outside does not look inviting but food and service were outstanding!
I agree! Dont judge by the outside! We almost drove away. So glad we read the reviews. The food was amazing, sushi was beautiful & delicious. We will be back!
Extremely fresh food with plenty of options. A family atmosphere where everyone can enjoy authentic Japanese food options and fantastic conversation without having to struggle to hear each other. Full banquet service should you want to plan a private party, BYOB, and music, pay for the food you want to order...WOW, where have you seen that before? This will be a family favorite for us and recommend giving it a try.
This place was SOOO good! I came for the first time today around 8pm and it was completely dead. I guess because the outside doesn’t look eye catching but when you walk inside it’s the complete opposite! the owner who greeted us was super nice and patient. We ordered the golden dragon roll, angel roll, hibachi steak, and braised pork ribs. Everything was phenomenal. Best sushi in Lubbock in my opinion.. can’t wait to be back!
Yummy! Pleasant! Fast! Was a little concerned due to appearance of outside and lack of cars but it was great! I had salmon and tuna rolls. My husband had filet and chicken. The god was tasty, the service was great and I would definitely recommend it.
The fiancée and I just ate here for early Valentine’s Day because we wanted to try a new place. Let me tell you… this is by far the most amazing food I’ve ever eaten. I don’t care if you’re looking for burgers, lasagna, or cherry pie; this restaurant is undoubtedly the most delicious of anything I’ve ever tasted. We are, from this day on, repeat customers.
The outside of the building looks horrible, but trust me, the food is fantastic !!!
This place doesn't look much from the outside, but the inside is beautiful and has fantastic food. This is a family owned buisness and it is worth supporting. We have been here many times trying their noodle soup, sushi, and hibachi dinners and the food is amazing each and every time and the service is kind and prompt. If you are in Lubbock dont miss out.
It’s like walking into a 90’s teppanyaki restaurant. The man that served us was really friendly, and kind. We ordered the happy hour chicken katsu & it was huge, it came with broccoli too. Also the udon veggie noodles were a big portion as well. It was sad to see the restaurant so empty. I’m sure it once was very popular.
Food here is just scrumptious! Generous portion sizes, and the service is always amazing! Highly recommend you check this restaurant out - the outside may look rough, but inside tells an entirely different story!
I love the food — absolutely amazing! The owner is very nice, the place is clean, and the prices are reasonable. My favorite spot for hibachi and sushi. I can’t wait to go back again for BBQ. Highly recommend!
I'm giving Sakura a 5! Every bite we had was amazing. The server was kind and attentive. English is not his first language but he was patient and got our order right. We tried the veggie tempura which was a generous helping a variety of veggies and were so tasty. We also had the drunken monkey, Texas Tech, firecracker, Godzilla and Saturday Night rolls. One at our table also had a beef ramen noodle with ramen soup and enjoyed it very much! The only thing holding this place back is the atmosphere. Some sprucing up outside and quiet background music would do the trick! Nothing that would keep us from coming back! Sorry there weren't more pictures! We ate things up too fast!
I would rate this restaurant a 100% if i could, great place if you’re looking for authentic Japanese food! The owners are extremely friendly & so sweet! I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for your next dine- in! I got the ramen in which i was able to build with my own protein, noodles, and type of soup! I got Shrimp, Ramen, and Miso Soup!
The food a service were amazing! The food is so delicious and fresh. Everything is good and fairly priced, it was $54.50 for 3 people. The restaurant was really quiet but it made for a relaxing meal. Sorry for the awful picture lol.
Great place for dinner! Food was delicious and the servings were generous.
NEW FAVORITE SPOT! Came in after reading other reviews mentioning fab service, sushi, and atmosphere. Absolutely RIGHT!! Had a bento box with the best spicy tuna roll in town, hands down - what a perfect birthday surprise!! Bf loved the soup and filet hibachi. So much food, price perfect - better than some other hibachi places in town, with fresher tasting sushi, cough cough. Can't wait to be back !!
We got the Takoyaki (octopus), Chicken & Shrimp Lunch Special, Bento box and it was 1000/10. Everything was fresh, crisp, and delicious. This place is one of our staples to come to. Definitely go check them out!
Don't judge this book by its cover! The outside of the building looks almost abandoned and we almost didn't go in, but I sure am glad we did! The interior atmosphere is great and the food... oh the food was delicious. Quite possibly the best hibachi steak I've ever had and my daughter loved her sushi. We will definitely be returning!
this place is the definition of don’t judge a book by its cover ! when we first pulled up it looked like it was closed down, so we were a little skeptical on how good it would be. the food ended up being amazing and the man serving people was very kind ! i shared a sushi roll with my dad and we both got our own bento box. it ended up being more food than we could eat and we had a whole to go box full for later !! i highly recommend this place :)
I ordered lunch special spicy chicken I hope my baby can eat it with me. So I was asking if “ spicy chicken can be non spicy” they did it ! I knew it’s too much to ask. But thank you so much ! This restaurant is very very sweet!!!
I moved fo Lubbock a few months ago and this place is my absolute favorite to go to. They have great prices and amazing food. Everything’s always fresh and tasty. The place is very clean and the owners are sweet. Even have a cute goldfish garden! Highly recommend if you want some good sushi or noodle soup!!
The outside is a little sketchy, but I’m glad we decided to try it anyway. The atmosphere inside is super cute and the food is yummy! We will definitely come here again.
We each had a Bento box. Tempura shrimp, Teriyaki beef and Teriyaki chicken. Each were well made and delicious.
We had a great time and the food was delicious. The whole family enjoyed watching the young chef prepare our hibachi entrees. He was talented and funny as well😄The rest of the staff were friendly and attentive. Highly recommend for a memorable meal! We had sushi for an appetizer and it was honestly the best I’ve tasted.

Beautiful and the food is incredible! The employee was very helpful and friendly! I highly recommend coming here.
It was authentic and delicious. Definitely a mom and pop shop looks like it’s run by a couple. Y’all should really get a tv for cowboys games and a cowboy roll special.

I used to live in China, and eating here was the most authentic Asian food I have eaten in Lubbock. I ordered from their Chinese menu, and it tasted like true Chinese food, I was very impressed. The outside does look like it may not be open, but don't be fooled, it is very great inside. Would highly recommend! Their braised pork belly was delicious
Great food! The owners are very friendly and helpful 👍 It’s definitely a hidden gem. More people need to come to try it!!
To start off, the atmosphere is always so peaceful and quiet, the service is A+, food is amazing and consistent every time I go, the owners were kind enough to sing me happy birthday and even sang to me. I love this place and recommend everyone who loves sushi to go.
If I could give 10, I would. Such a good place to eat. Will come back. If you haven’t made your way here, please do! You won’t regret!

Crazy good food. Best beef and rice in the whole town, chefs clearly know what they're doing.

The food was delicious. The miso soup was bland taste just like beef stock instead. The sauces were not the best except the spicy mayo. That one by far best sauce 👌
I really enjoyed this place, the chef was genuine and entertaining and the food was really good. We tried two different sushi rolls, both of which were excellent, and the teppanyaki came out perfect! They use the green butter similar to benihana also, which makes it fun and gives it a very unique flavor.
Highly recommended everyone should try at least once. This unsuspecting restaurant is quite large and serves a diverse menu of Bento boxes, sushi, stir fry, and hibachi! Portions are generous and atmosphere is pleasant. A red bridge leads you into the main dining area which is separated into 3 sections. Each hall is decorated with Chinese geisha art. The hibachi dining room boasts a trophy shelf filled with fancy Samurai dolls. Will be back soon to try the sushi menu. The Cowboy Roll sounds like a treat!
So many great options. The ambience includes a water and stone entrance. You're welcomed to sit in sushi bar area or the hibachi area for a show. The staff is incredibly attentive, knowledgeable and accommodating. We had Dylan who was awesome. You get a decent amount of food for the price. They do have VEGAN options including a few really great sushi rolls and tofu dishes and some of the best spring rolls I've had. The food taste fresh and was served in a reasonable amount of time. We will be returning.
Great food and great service. Try the Saturday night sushi Outside looks a little run down but don't let that drive you off. Inside walkway with a pond and fish was great for kids. Wish there was music inside.
Outside makes you question if you'll be gong to the hospital afterwards, but food and service was great and the inside is completely different.
I ordered Hibachi steak and shrimps..Quality is good. Too salty for my taste. Daughter ate Philadelphia rolls. She said it is the best.
I make an effort to try a new Ramen place when traveling and Sakura was what caught my eye. (It was close to me). I'll start with the pros: The parking lot and restaurant were empty, so I had it all to myself! The inside was very clean and presentable, I thought the bridge over the pond was cute. The owner was very nice and prompt. It was filling. I sat down, got my food, ate and left within 30 minutes. Cons: It was very dark and hot inside, I assume the A/C was out or it's too hot outside for a swamp cooler to work properly. One of the first things I noticed was a human trafficking sign, that threw me off a bit. I ordered the Spicy Pork Ramen with Tonkotsu Bone Broth and here's where I was disappointed. I heard a microwave open and close three times. As mentioned I was the only one in the restaurant so it was fairly obvious it was my order. This is the only time I've had ramen with ground pork, but the flavor of the pork saved the day, it was very tasty. The noodles and broth however had the flavor of instant ramen. Not joking. I'm not saying don't come here, but if you order the Ramen for 14.02, you're going to be disappointed.
This place is hit and miss, depending on who is on staff. We went once when the head show chef was there, and he was amazing and personable. He made us a great meal, and was a joy to converse with. We went another time, and had zero option for show, the staff on hand claiming there was no show chef there so they automatically sat us in the dining room. Service was awful that time. Literally every 'empty' table was not bussed by the time we left. We never got refills on drinks, and the hibachi steak my significant other ordered was done medium-rare instead of medium-well. They brought our entrees before the appetizer, and whatever staff that was on hand was SCARCE! You literally couldn't flag anyone down for help. We prebussed our table to try and help, because people kept coming in and nobody was cleaning the tables. All-in-all eat at your own risk.
The food was okay, not a fault of the chef but it was low quality ingredients. The chef however was spectacular, long hair caucasian male who I did not catch the name of. He was a treat and made the entire experience worth it. I give the food 3 stars but the chef gets 5/5.
First time here. There was nobody there to eat. Just 2 of us. It was super quiet. No background music. we could just hear everything. The guy serving us was nice but didn’t really talk at all. We heard them using a microwave which was different. Their soup that they give for the hibachi was really spicy… I was not able to finish that. I got hibachi steak with vegetables. They did give us a lot of food so we did get our moneys worth. The food was okay though. Can’t say it was super bad nor the best.
Sooo when we first entered it had a very nice environment. There's really pretty items that match with the atmosphere it matches the theme overall but, there was no music playing which was very awkward.the server wasn't really "nice" they weren't friendly.we waited for soo long just to get our food ordered, and they never said who's was who's what was what and the food was very salty.i found a hair in my food which made everything start to go downhill. I might get sik later idk. these photos where the only good things about the place +food.

This place has a unique interior, but the exterior looks abandoned and uncared for. The food was okay, but the long wait for a drink and food really put a damper on our visit. All in all, it was a disappointing experience.
Such a sad place to see. The parking lot and building is just not taken care of and it looks abandoned. The inside is nice to look at however when we came the AC was completely out. Not only that but the whole hour we dined in no one showed up to eat. It was like a ghost town. The Ramen was definitely not a redeemable factor at $14 bucks. The restaurant is just being wasted upon and needs a complete overhaul.
Food was not great. Would not recommend. There are plenty of other places that are better food for the same price. Sushi tasted fishy (sounds dumb but like, very lakey fishy, never had sushi like that). The fried rice was sad, dry and just tasted like pepper. The grilled tilapia, bad. Also store needs a deep cleaning, only took one picture but there’s food splattered on the wall and tons of dust
The food is very good. Unfortunately everything else from service to atmosphere professionalism and organization is garbage. Hence the one star for good food. I called an hour before they were closed per Google. And the person who answered the phone wouldn't take my order because they were closed. I asked what time on Fridays they close now since clearly their Google profile was incorrect. They were unable to provide me a time and after a couple of rounds of questioning they finally answered that they had little business today so they closed. While this is understandable it's no way to run a business. I hope that they find their desired rhythm soon because it would be unfortunate for a restaurant with such good food to go out of business. Although I do understand why they have little business considering the complaints listed above.
We "dined" in, but didn't actually dine. We left without finishing our food, when we found a bug crawling on the table next to my husband's arm! The pictures on this website do not match how the interior looks at all. There are holes cut into the walls, covered by cardboard. There was no central air, but there were small electric units plugged in throughout the restaurant, and there were extension cords everywhere. Also, there was what appeared to be "takeout" orders, sitting, at room temperature, waiting for pickup, for the entire time we were there. We should have left much sooner!
Had food poisoning. I ordered hibachi on the menu that wasn’t cook in front of us. Right in between eating my meal I rushed to the restroom because of stomach pain. I was relieved but soon as I got home severe pain came back plus I chilled with fever. Never will I go back there who knows how long was those hibachi setting out there, they probably just reheated it. It didn’t taste like the real hibachi cook right before your eyes. Plus their menu is quite pricey too by the way. Do yourself a favor do not waste your money here. Thanks
All I can it's not Shogun quality.. The prices are more expensive. The food was not good what so ever. The food had no flavor at all. The rice was soggy and had a really off smell to it. We notified our waitress about the food and they just blamed the chines cook in the back saying he did know how to cook hibachi food. Well at least we know not to eat here again.. On a side note the waitress was nice.
The only good food there was the fried dumplings. The meat had a weird flavor in it, and it even gave me food poisoning. The entrance had a horrible smell. It might have looked nice on the inside, but the outside was sketchy and off-putting. The prices were outrageous for the quality of food received. I definitely don't recommend this place to anyone with working taste buds.
