Opinions de Ralph & Kacoos Lufkin
It was my first time at this establishment. I was passing through the area on business and discovered this restaurant. It was a pleasant experience. The waitress was very attentive and professional. She presented a smile with her expert service that made me feel at ease. The kitchen staff prepared a phenomenal seafood platter that satisfied my seafood cravings and I'd return to this location if ever in the area.
I was running errands in Lufkin by myself. It took over an hour to get my oil changed and I was in the mood for some Cajun seafood. I asked for a quiet booth out of the way so I could eat my lunch and read my book. The food is always excellent and the staff was very friendly. Although it's pricey, I took home leftovers and ended up with 3 meals. I had stuffed shrimp with a rebaked potato and crawfish etoufee. I also had a hurricane that was made right and lots of delicious dinner rolls and whipped butter. Yum!! Personally, I like Ralph and Kacoo's better than Pappadeaux's.
We came in and had Jaide as our server, she was absolutely amazing and so sweet! We were told about specials and she took the time to explain everything we had questions on. Everything was delicious but I can’t speak enough on the amazing service we had.
The service was great. Staff was very welcoming, the food was very delicious and to die for. Will definitely be returning. I wish west Texas had a place like this😭
Started off with a tall mug of Shiner Bock, no frost on the mug but that was alot of ice cold Shiner Bock. Had the chicken fried steak. It is on par with the chicken fried steak that used to be served at Brown's Country Store & Restaurant in Benton AR. The 'jumbo' shrimp although it was fluffy & had a great flavor it was mostly breading. The catfish fillets were small in size & portion and although it had a very fishy taste (as if they weren't soaked or cleaned well) it had a great flavor, was very tender with a perfect crispness and thinly layered with the right amount of corn flour. Only 3 stars for atmosphere since it reminded me more of eating in Memphis than eating in New Orleans. It is supposed to be New Orleans style but I did not get that vibe whatsoever. Just my opinion here, It appears they tried to give the place an upscale feel yet ended up as a minimalistic atmosphere that didn't feel 'fancy' even though the exterior area gives off the fancy upscale vibe very well.
Just oh my. I had the grilled oysters, raw oysters and crab alfredo. This is some of the very best food I’ve ever eaten and I’m old! My server was so sweet and got everything perfect. Thank you! (Arnold Schwarzenegger voice) I’ll be back
Nice atmosphere. Great food and drinks.
Update: stopped in again today for our anniversary. Good food and service. Food was good with one small exception. My burger was incorrectly prepared but still delicious. We will return(lord willing). Had anniversary dinner two weeks ago. Excellent food and service.
We do not eat seafood, but we love the Cajun Cheeseburgers here. They have a good steak also. Others I have been with really like the seafood. Clean, friendly and the wait staff are very attentive.
Great food and great service! Definitely 10/10!
We had the lunch menu seafood platter. It was a tasty meal. The price was good.
Great food and great service! It is nice to eat somewhere that doesn't have the music blaring!
We had a great meal there this past weekend. There were 5 in our group and everyone enjoyed their meal. We arrived late (@10pm) as we were spending the night in Lufkin. They were kind enough to still seat us since they closed at 10:30. Most of us had Shrimp which was lightly battered with good flavor. We all had various sides that were tasty as well. Service was very good!
This was my first visit to Ralph & Kacoo's. Was very impressed by every aspect of our dining experience. Our server, Austin at Lufkin TX location, was excellent and recommend the perfect meal! (See photo!) Best catfish smothered in crawfish ettouffe with fresh purple hull peas and braised potatoes. Would highly recommend to everyone...👍👍👍👍👍
Oh my goodness!!! We carried our elderly parents here for lunch. The staff (everyone from the hostess to other waitresses that wasn't even the waitress who waited on us) bent over backwards to accommodate us. I was very touched by their genuine care and concern for their comfort. This kind of service is rare in this day and age. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!!
I really enjoyed this place. There are so many options on the menu that its hard to choose. From our beverage to our appetizer and main course, everything was great! Lots of flavor and a full bar is a plus!
I had the ultimate chicken sandwich. It was yummy. The bread was soft and sweet. The flourless chocolate cake is amazing!! If you are a chocolate lover, I would highly recommend this dessert!! My husband had the satin pie and really liked it. It's peanut butter.
We had such a great meal and we had the most courteous and awesome waitress Hannah, she was very attentive and sweet! The St Anne's was delicious and the oysters Rockefellers were so scrumptious.
Good food. Great Service. Josue Avilez did a great job!
Jonathan was absolutely fantastic! He was attentive, friendly, and quick to respond to anything we needed. He made sure we were well taken care of and never let us feel forgotten, even during busy moments. His excellent service added so much to our experience, and we truly appreciated his professionalism and warm attitude. Thank you, Jonathan, for making our visit so enjoyable!
Great place. Great food and great service. Was my first time trying Cajun food so I’m a poor judge to give my opinions about their food but most of my local coworkers said it’s good so I trust their judgment.
The crawfish and shrimp nachos During Happy hour is a must. their Sweet Tea so good!!
Was very good! The staff was very nice, I got chips and cheese but overall best place! Go-to!
We were in Lufkin and decided to try Ralph & Kacoo's for our 1st time. I'm so glad that we did! We ordered the 1 lb of shrimp (hot) as our appetizer. They were large and very tasty without being overly spicy. My Husband had fresh raw oysters and I ordered Ralph's platter (and a to-go box). Everything was so good! I was SO pleasantly surprised that the stuffed crab was just that and Not just filled with a lot of stuffing and very lil crab. The service was on point and we both agreed that we will be back in the future and request Amy again!
The place was great food atmosphere and our server Gabriel was awesome there was a group of us (14)it was great how efficient he was and got everyone's orders right.
Our food was fantastic!!! My husband had shrimp & sausage on a bed of smoked gouda grits. Those grits were the bomb!!! I had the ultimate chicken sandwich, fries & coleslaw very good!!! Our friend ordered jambalaya, & she loved it. We started our meal with the Taste of Louisiana. It's been a long time since we've eaten alligator, crawfish & shrimp. That appetizer did not disappoint!!! Our server was Jonathan & he was nice, informative & attentive. Overall I'd give this restaurant 5 stars!!
Friday evening there was live entertainment on the patio. Very welcoming staff at the door. We were a large group of 25 people and we were served in a timely manner. Food was great although we did joke about the hard rolls! They might have been going for mini French bread tho. LOL! We are definitely coming back.
So the food is nothing short of phenomenal. And the portion size is out of control. I ordered country fried steak, my buddy had fettuccine by the sea and we had onion rings for appetizers. There's no possibility to eat everything. Now, the onion rings are the best (by far) I've ever had - no comparison. Service is ok, nothing wrong, just not over the top like everything else. I'm coming to Lufkin every year just to fish and eat here!
From start to finish, my experience at Ralph & Kacoo’s was nothing short of exceptional. This restaurant truly excels in every area—food, service, and presentation. The moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly and seated promptly. The service was impeccable—attentive without being intrusive, and the staff was knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations. The food was simply outstanding. Every dish was bursting with flavor, made with high-quality ingredients, and cooked to perfection. It was clear that a lot of thought and skill went into every recipe. From appetizers to dessert, each plate was a delight. On top of that, the presentation was stunning. Every dish was beautifully plated, making the meal feel like a work of art. The attention to detail elevated the entire dining experience. If you’re looking for a restaurant that delivers in every aspect, Ralph & Kacoo’s is the place to go. I can’t wait to return!

Good food but a bit expensive. My favorite dish is the K-Jun Bleu. The catfish cocodrie is good also. The braised potatoes were like bits of leather. Service is hit & miss sometimes. Really good desserts.
The experience was overall nice. The fried crawfish didn't taste fresh. The stuffed mushrooms were delicious! The steak was very juicy and buttery, lobster as well. The shrimp cocktail was really good, I just wish it had a few more shrimp. The server forgot our sides with our steak so we needed up having to take those to go. The Devil martini was the star of the show alongside the lobster. It was sooo good!
Food was great. Sat in patio area for a birthday party(9guest). Older waitress that is always working patio was our waitress..... a crappy attitude and service was sub par. she even rolled her eyes when a guest ask for a to go cup. Then to top it off she made over $100 dollar tip from gratuity. I'm guessing that's why she works patio because her people skills are definitely lacking.
Food was good except the cheesecake! Service was aweful but maybe the young guy was training???
Good food, but just like all higher end restaurants you don't get a lot of food for the price. It's more about presentation. The food we got was good. The rolls were very good and as long as you fill up on rolls your good to go.
My very good friend and I patronized this seafood restaurant on thanksgiving day for the very 1st time. Our server is AyLee. Pretty name for a pretty girl. I'm pretty sure I ordered the Atachafalaya (topped with crawfish etoufee) dish with fish of the day. AyLee said FOTD is mahimahi. My meal came. No crawfish etoufee on the fish🫤, but at least there was whole lump crab. So I didn't complain. See photo. However, on the receipt it reads talipia, and not Mahi mahi, Hmmm🤔 Oh, and I didn't get the brand name of the blush wine I had. Assuming it was Sutter home, lol. But the rolls were hot and buttery. And my good friend really enjoyed the au jus. We will be back!!!
Ordered the steak. The ribeye was okay. Cheap cut. Atmosphere is dated. Service was excellent.
We met in their private room - the server was very courteous, attentive without being overly so. Kudos to your staff!
Everything great, except. 5 dollars for 4 onion rings seemed excessive
The hostess was bit shrewd but the server amazing gave him a 20% tip for how awesome he was. The food was good but a bit pricey this place would be good for an anniversary or special occasion but as a place just to get dinner not so much.
Had a date here and had a great experience. I thoroughly enjoy ambiance, so this restaurant was right up my alley. Tables could have been a bit darker lit, there were 2 lights at the table which seemed too much. Seeing as it was our first time being there, we ordered quite a bit of food. I had the steak and lobster tail, with sharable brisket nachos and a salad. It wasn't the most amazing thing in the world, but the food was great, what you'd expect out of place like this. Brisket in the nachos was a little dry, and the lobster was slightly chewy but still had great seasoning and taste. Service was great as well. Our waitress was pleasant to deal with. Responsive and respectful. She was attentive to our dining needs.
I really like the food here. It's a new experience for someone from the Pacific Northwest and I really enjoyed everything. I had alligator and crawfish appetizers along with stuffed mushrooms which were excellent. The red snapper seemed really fresh. The service was quick and friendly. Places like this are one of the reasons Iove visiting Louisiana and Texas.

Pretty good meal! price isn't bad, and you'll take home a pretty decent amount of leftovers. The restaurant appearance has a sort of nostalgic feeling. Id come here again

I had a take out order, after my husband had a big work event here. I had an order he gave the waitstaff for "The Ruby" but what he brought home, was NOT "The Ruby", it seems to be "The Pontchartrain." Two different dishes. It sucks to know I wasted $20 something bucks on something I won't eat, due to server/kitchen error!
The food was good. Although we didn't get entirely what we ordered. We had Jambalaya, lunch platter, and blackened chicken. Which wasn't blackened. The waiter was a comical interlude in a busy day. He didn't know if they had crawfish but he would ask the manager. When he came back I asked again and he said the manager was not in right now!! My wife asked if maybe the kitchen would know? That threw him off. He never considered that option. However, he did go and ask them. It turned out they didn't have them. Our friend wanted a Coors Light which also caused some confusion since the waiter never heard about that so once again he had to go ask the manager or someone else. He returned to say they didn't have any at the moment. After serving appetizers and salad the waiter suddenly realized he probably should serve us some bread. I guess it's a tough thing to have first day at a job. At least we had a laugh.
The service was great! I had fried catfish and a cup of etouffee. The catfish flavor was good but the fish was a little too soft it fell apart when touched. The etouffee was good but definitely not what was expected. It was light roux like the"tourists" get in New Orleans, the real etouffee is dark and full of flavor ,like a Mardi Gras in your mouth that touches your soul! Just a little more spice and a darker roux and it would be in the ball park!! Cook the catfish just a couple of minutes longer and that would be a great hit as well...
There's a lot to like here, but our food was so, so salty. To the point that my lips chapped after eating the Salmon. I dont know if that is normal for here or if the sauce batch I got was extra, but it was intense. Though, my partner said his meal was great. He had the alfredo. I've passed by this place for years traveling from East Texas to Houston, so I was thrilled to try it. It's an adorable place, with a nest little gift shop in the front. Very cajun themed. Service was good, too. But, if you're sensitive to salt, I'd be cautious.
I have never heard or seen this restaurant before and also it was close by my hotel. I did read the reviews and decided to check them out for dinner. The atmosphere felt pleasant and the severs were very nice and polite, also my server made sure I needed refills on my drink. The reason I am giving it a three stars was because of the food was a hit or miss and I didn't get any utensils when my food arrived, I had to asked for utensils. I ordered the King Louie salad combo (shrimp and crab) and I asked for no red onions or hard boiled eggs. After I placed my order, my server asked me if I wanted any bread and butter and I said yes. After I got my bread, the bread was freshly baked and it was delicious, the bread was cooked all the threw and it soft and fluffy inside and the bottom of the rolls where perfectly crispy. But with the salad, it was a let down. When I got it, there was only shrimp no crab and they got rid of the red peppers, but I appreciatd having the dressing on the side. When my server came around, I told her I ordered the combo and they only gave me the shrimp and they got rid of the red peppers and I told her only no red onions and no hard boiled eggs, and didn't get any utensils when my food came. She took the salad back the kitchen to get the crab on my salad and some utensils. When she brought back the salad and some utensils, she forgot the red peppers so she went back in the kitchen to get me a side of red peppers, but before she went back she asked if I wanted anymore bread and I said yes. After coming back with a side of red peppers and a basket full of bread, I thank her and started eating, the salad was kind of a disappointment, the shrimp was good but the crab tasted that it came out of a can and the seafood salad dressing was not really good (it tasted like a thousand island dressing with some stir in crab meat from the can in the dressing). Not to be mean, but they really messed up this salad bad. I don't know what was going on in the kitchen that day, but it was bad communication between the server and the cooks. I did eat all and I was just disappointed on the salad. So I asked my server if I can order some dessert and ordered their bread pudding with bourbon butter sauce with toasted pecans. I got it and it was big and it was nice and warm, smelled amazing, and it had a cherry. I took a bite, it was pretty hot but it tasted amazing. It was made and tasted just like how my mom makes her bread pudding at home, it was cooked perfectly. I would come back, but I would be ordering something else and not the salads ever again. If anyone is passing by or staying in a hotel for the night, I would recommend giving it a chance to try but beware the food can be a hit or a miss.
Great atmosphere and awesome service from my waitress Brynn. Beer was super cold. The food was disappointing. I ordered red snapper pontchartrain. The sauce was water and the fish wasn’t fresh. The side mixed veggies was bland. The rolls were good. I’m from Louisiana and have visited most R&K locations, and unfortunately this one I don’t recommend for the food. However, it would be a great place to have a beer and unwind after a long day of work.

After I was seated and given a menu, I waited 20 minutes for a server. I got mad and left. I called to tell them the waitress was slacking, and they told me they had forgotten to tell her I was there. 30 minutes later, I couldn't find anything else I wanted to eat, so I came back and sat at the bar. Is the service from the bartenders was phenomenal. The food is excellent and the portions are enormous. Tldr, great food, great ba,r horrible service.
It was disappointing... Momma enjoys oysters but not these They were dry and warm....They do serve a nice margarita ...The Waitstaff is Fantastic and Professional. For the price of the meal it was disappointing The Ralph's platter had the fried food but the flavor but wasn't enough to say we would be back.
This used to be a great restaurant. The food quality has gone way down. The Pontchartrain sauce tasted like water-downed Alfredo sauce..but not even good. The hush puppies were wayyyy too dry. My daughter's alligator tails tasted like the fat off a chicken. The waitress and the other workers were great. We won't be back because the food is way over priced
Food was medicore, nothing really stood out. Oysters Rockerfeller had onions in it Not a fan and not ususal melted cheese and spinach, but give it a try, to each his own Pochatrain red snapper dish suppose to be creamy sauce this was more maionasey texture...hard to explain..photo looks great..
They sell po boys but I should have known even after I looked over the menu and noticed that they didn't say the po boy was served on French bread, and because it wasn't, the roll they used was too soft to hold the ingredients. You had to ask for hot sauce and they put the meager portions of lettuce and tomato on the side. If you are looking for an authentic po boy, look elsewhere. To be fair, they opened their first restaurant in Mississippi and not Louisiana (New Orleans). I guess that's on me. Although I didn't try anything on their menu, my guess is any other Cajun food would fall short when stacked up to real Cajun food.
I drove over 2 hours to take my Mom to have some fried oysters. What we got were overcooked oyster dust. Oysters so small smaller than popcorn shrimp. Why even serve oysters if all you have aren't worth the effort. I was so upset I almost cried. The onion rings were good and so was the fried shrimp. Very disappointing. Oh yea my mom could not even substitute here fries, that she can't eat, for something else. No substitutions! We should have walked out then.
I came in and bought jambalaya and boudin balls I don't believe the jambalaya is worth $16.99 because it's not authentically good or Cajun is just like Uncle Ben's rice mixed with sausage and shrimp and stuff. It doesn't have any flavor at all. Do boudin balls are not as well they taste like mush food and a ball. The waitress that I had I believe she probably was brand new she look like she scared of everyone. I don't think I will want to come back.
I remember going to Ralph and Kacoo's in New Orleans over 20yrs ago and when I saw this location in Lufkins it brought back memories on how good the food was. I remember the waitress telling us to put sine butter on hushpuppies, I was like who does that, but it was great and the food was great. This location is not New Orleans and clearly things have changed. First of all Ashley was great, she was attentive and kept asking us if we needed anything. Second of all the food was not good at all...AT ALL...We had to ask and clarify if this was real catfish, because the menu said it was catfish and it is not, it is Swai, with catfish prices. The manager said they have to go unthaw the catfish and it's going to take a bit to get our food. Now if you are a catfish eater, you know what catfish taste like. Even when we waited for the catfish it didn't taste like catfish. The food was unseasonably, no flavor at all and to spend almost $80 on three entrees I was very disappointed. I ordered the Catfish Coodrie, it was supposed to be a blackened, grilled and fried piece of catfish topped with crawfish etouffee over white rice. The fried piece tasted like long john silver and the blackened and grill look like they barely touched the grill again no flavor and the rice was unflavored borderline crunchy and the etouffee unflavored and unsalted. (see pictures). Even with my brothers seafood platter, he said it wasn't catfish..My mother liked her stacked pork chops with the orka, the onion rings, the rolls were good, and the hushpuppies were greasy, but I don't think I can recommend this restaurant to anyone. You have to go for yourself and do your own review. If you are not going to sell real catfish, put fried fish on your menu so it won't be false advertisement!
Last time I visited was about 10 years ago. My family and I were in town again and decided to eat here. On the night we ate here, one side of the restaurant was packed; however, we were thankfully placed in the less rowdy section of the restaurant. My low rating is majorly based on food. My food was super dry, shrimp was cooked separately, dry pasta had no taste, and the unseasoned crab bits was a pathetic addition to the meal. For the price, the quality and taste of this food was really low. I think they are riding off their former glory otherwise, why do people still visit. My husband's and kid's food were laughable, but mine disappointed me so much that I had to take a picture of it. Margarita was a 5/10.
serving size is a joke- they are a wannabe good restaurant but want to cut corners so they are less than a corner cafe
Terrible service at the bar.\nWeak drinks during happy hour and terrible food.\nVery little toppings on fries that must have have been cooked 1/2 hour before serving them to me.

I can say majority of the food I got was ok but before I left I went to the restroom And a waiter was already in there. While im washing my hands the waiter came out the restroom I asked her was she gonna wash her hands she said “ I don’t have to we’re about to close “ I proceeded to tell her manager who said he was gonna say something to her and he didn’t ! Not to mention the girl I was with got sick from the food
I don't write reviews but people this was the worst food I've had in a long time. Maybe it was an off night but everything from the appetizers to main dishes were just bland and awful. Idk but I wouldn't waste your time coming here.
Went here because my daughter picked this place for her birthday because she loved it about a year earlier. Never got a waiter or waitress but the manager decided to take care of us. He was a very nice man and accommodating but the food was horrible. The gator bites were great as well as the free rolls. My steak was overcooked, two of my daughters pasta dishes were “season free”, my other daughter had a bone in her chicken sandwich and almost broke a tooth, my wife’s food was completely forgotten. The manager promised to take care of us but still charged my wife for the food that he forgot to put in and still got the sides wrong and they also charged me for the free dessert which he promised was free for the birthday girl. Probably won’t be back.
Stopped in tonight and ordered 1.5lbs of their peel and eat shrimp which say Cajun seasoned. Got back and they were literally just boiled shrimp. They had zero seasoning on them. Super disappointing after spending almost $40. The girl at the front very nice but the food was horrible.
I had bragged on your restaurant. Food great awesome service. My daughter an her family came there to eat an it was horrible. Had to ask for a menu. She could count the number of shrimp an gator tails on 1 hand. The waitress slammed the drinks on the table like she didn’t want to serve them. Service was slow. Got food before drinks.
Second time trying this place and it's still a no-go for us. The alligator was nice but for sure not worth the $14. The fish had a strange seasoning that made it impossible to eat. Stuffed shrimp would have been great if the stuffing had more seasoning to it.
The service and atmosphere have gone down significantly, along with the food quality and prices. Slow to get drinks, waitress did not make my gin and tonic correctly, and the food was overpriced and not good. Ordered the 12oz "ribeye" and received a paper thing piece of meat cooked medium well when I asked for medium. The steamed vegetables tasted like shrimp, but extremely bland. A solid 60% of the steak was inedible due to it being all gristle. My fiances dinner was too spicy to taste any flavor, and overall not good. We both ended up getting severe food poisoning later in the evening, and are still sick today, the following day. We paid $70 for two entrees that would have been more fitting at a roadside greasy spoon diner, the worst gin and tonic I have ever had in my life, and a sweet tea. I will never return, and will be sure to advise against anyone going there.
Horrible. All three of our orders came out wrong. And has anybody ever heard of boudan made with pulled pork? Ours tasted like spam To polish up this disaster they tried to over charge us $3 on two of our orders. We are not going to discuss the slow & lousy service. Never will we return.
