Opinions de Chianti Mackinac Island
A wonderful menu. We chose the chief tasting and wine pairing. You pick your selections. The portions are just right. The chief is very creative and each plate was playful and tasty. The wines selected for pairing were a good compliment. We come to Mackinac Island every year and this will be a destination for dining when we are here. Thank you.
Our first dinner on Mackinac Island we decided to try out Chianti. This is one of the best meals we have ever had. All the food was so delicious! Our personal favorites were the Ecuador Chocolate, Ahi Tuna Cannoli, Caesar Salad, and Wagyu Ribeye. Do not pass on Chianti! If you are gonna splurge on a meal, this is the place to do it. The food is literal art and was so beautiful to look at! Especially the dessert, where I think my jaw hit the floor with how stunning they were to look at. The complexity of flavors was astounding. There were many dishes that were takes on classic flavors/dishes, but elevated in a way we had never experienced before in terms of flavor and technique. We did the 5 course tasting which was enough food to leave us full and content. The service and atmosphere were impeccable! This place is so worth the value based on service, atmosphere, flavors, and presentation/technical execution of each plate. If you want a nice elegant meal that gives you an amazing tasting and looking meal, Chianti is the place to go. This was one of our top food experiences ever (and we are big foodies)! We loved our meal here and will definitely come back.
Had an amazing 5-course meal here on my trip at Mackinaw. Everything was delicious and well proportioned, I was very satisfied at the end with every dish!
Truly one of the most amazing dining experiences we have had in many years! Chef John is absolutely brilliant! Our server Romain was so friendly, fun and welcoming. Steven also was wonderful and definitely knows his wines. Highly recommend and worth every penny.
It has been almost a year since we dined here for our 4 year anniversary and I just realized I never wrote a review. Easily one of the top 5 meals I've had in my 44 years of living. Exceptional food, service, and atmosphere. Highly recommended. 100 A+++
Chianti located in Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island, Michigan is one of the best restaurants that we have ever eaten at. We opted for a bottle of champagne (since it’s our anniversary) and the five course meal. Everything was perfect. Everyone was very polite and very well trained. The music (live piano) was very nice. We reserved a table by the windows. The view was beautiful. We highly recommend to treat yourself to a very enjoyable experience.
My wife and I had a spectacular meal in a beautiful environment last night at Chianti. It was one of the finest meals we have ever had anywhere. It was costly but worth it! Joseph, our server, was a consummate professional! We sat looking out onto the lake. Highly recommended! We plan on returning annually.
Absolutely amazing! From the ambience, the piano player, amazing service from Joslyn and team and the amazing beautifully played food! Everything was spot on! Highly recommend!
We went to Chianti on a whim for our anniversary. We were supposed to go to The Woods, but our taxi never showed up. We are so glad it didn't! We did the 5 course meal with wine pairings. Our food was delicious and the wine went perfectly with each course. The service was impeccable and the piano player took requests. We even slow danced in between courses. If you want a romantic experience, go to Chianti. You won't be disappointed!
What a magical place. From the moment I entered Chianti I felt like royalty. The wait staff bring food to you in beautifully choreographed movements and relay to you thoughtout detailed explanations of the decadent food. Exquisite food is brought to you in playful displays on your plate, and the taste was out of this world delicious. I had the pleasure of speaking with one of the Chef’s, and it was so wonderful to hear what inspires this phenomenal food from the creator themselves.
Phenomenal food, great atmosphere, and the sweetest staff - my husband and I can't recommend Chianti enough. For a 6-day trip to Mackinac Island, this was our first culinary outing on the island and every other meal was disappointing compared to this. The food was spectacular and second only to the staff. A big thanks to Shawn, Steven, and the pianist David for a truly special evening. This is a must-have culinary experience, just as described!
Stayed at Mission Point Resort August 2017. Dined at the Chanting with the family. Reservations at 5:30 very nice table with lake view and not too busy during first half hour. Excellent service from Basil and maitre was pleasant as well, Clever. Had the rib-eye $56, excellent. Piano bar music, great view, great service, and excellent food! Enjoy!
Chianti was delicious! At first it seems pricey, but definitely worth it. The food was amazing, and not only that but the atmosphere and presentation were top-notch. My personal favorite was the dessert plate, which included a delicious "apple!" Would highly recommend for anyone looking for fine dining on Mackinac Island.
The best meal of my life. The service made it even before. Every server cares about the meal and makes you feel welcomed. I can’t express enough how much I enjoyed myself - thank you to all the Chianti staff for their wonderful service.
Excellent menu options, superb food, wonderful atmosphere with great piano music and stellar views. Professional, personable service that was outstanding. Chianti earns our highest recommendation!
Glenroy is an absolute treasure and added to our extraordinary dining experience for our 25th wedding anniversary. Thank you for amazing meal and service.
The best meal and dining experience I have had in years, completely exceptional in every way.
Fantastic food and service! They really went the extra mile for us on our anniversary, by giving us a beautiful view outside and the manager was so friendly and personable! It is highly recommended!
100x better than the Grand hotel could ever do. Grand hotel should take notes. Chianti staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The food is fantastic! Highly recommend.
If you are a foodie - this might be one of the only places on the island that will be a winner. We love the ambiance of the Grand Hotel but this has much much finer food. We got the vegetarian 5-course tasting menu and it was fabulous. Excellent service and wonderful live piano performance.
We enjoyed a wonderful meal at Chianti. The server was extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine. Lovely setting and ambiance. Will definitely go back.
Food was excellent. You can choose a prix frixe menu or an a la carte. Servings were big enough to share on the a la carte menu. Fresh in-season items. Service was good and attentive. Piano player chose beautiful songs that blended with the nice atmosphere.
An amazing meal featuring Michigan grown fare. The charred endive and early spring salad woke up our palates and the piano player set the mood. The service and attention were magnificent. We opted for the chef specials of Sea Bass and Wagyu Ribeye. Both were beyond good. A thoroughly well thought out and executed concept. A must eat for gourmands and foodies.
Wow! Went in with minimal expectations and was blown away. All of the course items were fantastic and the wine pairings were near perfect. A special shout out to our server Basil who gave everyone a surprise with his unbelievable singing voice. I can't recommend this place enough if you've been saving up for something special you will not be disappointed.
Had a honeymoon meal here! The whole menu was amazing, but the apple was magical! Had some unique dishes we've never seen before, like the potato croissant and the spring harvest with fiddle heads. The signature Caesar is a must try as well. Even if you aren't down for a full meal, do yourself a favor and sit in just for the apple. Never had a dessert like it!!!
Fantastic, cozy, and romantic dinner. The food was spectacular and I think Chianti could be the first Michelin star restaurant on the island with a bit more polishing. The live piano was perfect and the service was attentive without hovering. The summer menu was interesting in the best possible way. I ordered outside my comfort zone confident the chefs wouldn't let my taste buds down. We will be back. Thank you.
Wonderful romantic dining experience. My wife and I were guests of hotel and selected Chianti to celebrate our anniversary. We were not disappointed. The pre fix dinner and wine pairings were delicious. The service was outstanding. The view was amazing. Simon our server did a great job. Light piano music playing in the background. Highly recommend this for an upscale dining experience.
Dining at Chianti restaurant at Mission Point Resort was a wonderful experience! The staff are well trained, most knowledgeable and so proud to be a part of Chianti. They were able to explain why the wine pairings were chosen for each course. When each course was presented each of us received our course at exactly the same time. The choice was then explained in delicious detail. Basil our waiter was a joy. Each course was more delectable than the one before it. And of course the decadent “apple pie” lived up to our expectations and beyond. It was truly unbelievable. I do hope to go again before the season ends.
OMG! This is one of the best meals I have ever eaten and I have eaten in several 5* Michelin restaurants. It’s a fixe price menu and the portions are not large, but each course is exquisite. We did the wine pairing for $65/person and that was also well worth it. The chef visited our table and that made the night just that more special. This restaurant, alone, is a reason to visit Mackinaw Island. However, MI is a beautiful, welcoming place.
Highly recommend Chianti! The food and service exceeded expectations. My fiancé and I were so impressed that we ate dinner here two days in a row. Each dish was filled with flavor, passion and gives your tastebuds a run for their money! The culinary team truly strives for the farm to table expience. A special thank you to our server Joseph and the GM Tyler for making our service so special. We truly enjoyed the VIP treatment and even met Lukas (pastry chef). Joseph was so sweet, that he even gave us a personalized card! We look forward to next year's menu and service!!
PURE MAGIC. My husband and I came here for our anniversary dinner, and we were so charmed. We chose to add the first tier (read: cheapest) wine pairing, we were doubtful but willing to try and it added so much to the experience. Every course was outstanding, but my husband's lobster bisque as his second course choice bears special mention, as did the rabbit gnocchi which we both chose for the third course- it was actually mind blowing. The closest thing to a religious experience I could have with food, it was that incredible. The rabbit was shredded and coated in an amazingly flavorful sauce, the gnocchi was perfection in both texture and flavor. The wine pairing was equally strong- on its own I didn't love it, but paired with that course it was incredible! My husband got the prosciutto wrapped veal as his fourth course, I got the prime beef tenderloin. We were afraid anything would be disappointing following that gnocchi, but both dishes and their wine pairings amazingly held up and continued the excellence. For dessert he had the apple pie, I got the chocolate torte. Both were rich and amazing and incredible, and their dessert wine pairings were the perfect complement. The apple pie had the perfect balance of apple and cinnamon and white chocolate with a rich shortbread base, and the presentation couldn't be beat. The torte was rich chocolate heaven- it somehow paired perfectly with the meringue it was served with, not too dark or bitter compared to it. Our waiter, Basil, also deserves special mention, for both his impeccable serving and his beautiful voice- he serenaded us for our anniversary, and we were lucky enough to hear him serenade a fellow patron for her birthday as well. He has won talent competitions with that voice, and you can tell! Our sommelier, Nenad, was so knowledgeable and friendly as well, he really helped us to appreciate our wine pairings and he genuinely enjoyed doing so. It showed! They both took the already wonderful meal over the top to make it pure magic- we were walking back to our B&B discussing how amazing the night was. It's the most money we've ever spent on food and it was worth every penny. Thank you, Chianti
Pretty sure my wife and I have experienced all of the nicer dining on the island, and Chianti wins best experience, food, and all other categories. The service is exceptional. Anyone who says otherwise is just a sad person. The food, always amazing and consistent! I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Chianti
One of the best meals and meal experiences I've ever had. Excellent service from attentive staff. The presentation of the food was truly a work of art and equalled by the taste, textures, and flavors. This place deserves a Michelin rating.
The ambiance was amazing and the food was over the top wonderful. Get there at 5pm until 630pm for the early bird special which is a main entree with a free salad and wine. Beet salad, roasted duck and a cab to wash it down. Honestly, in the top 3 meals I have ever had. The view was great too.
I was here tonight for the first night back open. I'm still digesting (both physically and mentality) but I can say that I just had one of the best dining experiences I've had in a bit. I did the pairings along with dinner and they were spot on. The initial course pairing with the lobster tureen set expectations high. The caesar was rich and crisp (sauv blanc another perfect pair), the garlic risotto so creamy and savory (okay on the pairing). When they set the chianti pairing with the walleye fourth course I was skeptical, but the black pepper hit it out of the park. The apple dessert was absolutely enchanting, total Snow White vibes. Service was thoughtful and attentive, I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Mission Point as a whole always delivers, but tonight was truly special. Thanks to the chef and all the staff for the lovely evening. If I could give six stars I would.
Fantastic restaurant. The scallops and the veggie lasagna were two of the best dishes we had ever eaten. The tiramisu was amazing as well. Excellent service in Joslyn from Montego Bay. Great experience all around.
Vassel was wonderful in making our anniversary dinner memorable. Nice view, amazing service and great food. We loved the piano playing and quiet atmosphere.
Liked the food! The staff was amazing! Great view and atmosphere!
Food exceeded our expectations and our service was great. The atmosphere in the dining space leaves a lot to be desired
Since it is a seasonal spot, some years we love it, and other years we go just once.... nice space, and we love the mission point hotel. Nice wine list, and generous portions. Lovely staff, and nice live piano music.
Chianti is one of the few spots on Mackinac with pretty decent food. The service is phenomenal and the view is great. But the price point for what you're getting doesn't truly justify it. The presentation is beautiful but the flavor just wasn't there for me. By all means still go and try for yourself, this is just my opinion.
The food the service and the ambiance was excellent. We were just disappointed by the portion size. Based on the prices we assumed the portions were a bit larger. I was also disappointed when we ordered a salad to share that the server didn't inform us of the size. He did inform us that the chef would not split it into two portions because of the presentation. That should have been our clue. When the salad arrived it was barely big enough for one of us. We dine at other higher end restaurants and even there a $15+ caesar salad is a bit larger than what we were served. Same issue with the dessert we split. As I stated the food was excellent but for ~ $230 for a meal for two ( shared salad, two entrees, two glasses of wine and a shared dessert) I should have not left still hungry.
I’m basing my score strictly on value. 2 people with wine pairing and 20% tip was $500. If I’m paying $500 everything better be on point. The room was old and tired and needed some upgrades. It’s open atmosphere was great minus all the hotel guests wandering by and staring like your an art exhibit. The food was great…however not $250 a person great. The wine pairings were good. It would be great if the reds were not served at room temperature. This is a clear sign of lack of wine knowledge at any restaurant. For the price we won’t be back, but glad we tried it one time
Where to start?!?! Walking in, the first thing that greets you is the smell of chlorine and noise from the pool area. Upon arriving to the dining area, you are met with decor that is beyond outdated and eclectic. Our window table in the evening had us looking at our own reflection in the windows as there is no outside lighting. But the worst part was - there was a wedding in the next room and the music was so loud you could barely carry on a conversation with your dining partner. The food, although flavorful, was average at best. As others have stated, portions are small, but that was expected. My companion and I both ordered the veal - it was fatty and inedible. When the one brussel sprout is the best thing on the plate, you know there's a problem. The apple for dessert was good, but definitely not an apple. A huge disappointment for the cost. The waitstaff was fine but hard to hear due to the techno music next door.
Chianti was pretty much my only issue. Living in a great food location like Grand Rapids I would expect the price to match the food quality and to blow my expectations out of the water. The food was mediocre at best. The stake was overcooked and over seasoned. The pasta was watery. I would expect 5 star meals for the price what we got was at best a two. The service was great and friendly but much to uptight for the quality of food. Presentation was also lacking. The Chicken Parm was just a mass of meat over noodles and dry. We wont be eating at Chianti again.
The coursed meal appeared amazing on the menu and some parts where great. Some dishes were served cold and without much flavor. The severs were fabulous and the view wonderful. I think it was overpriced for the food.
Very disappointing experience. I specifically made this reservation for my boyfriend’s birthday and even noted it on OpenTable, yet it wasn’t acknowledged at all. For a place that’s supposed to deliver a special experience, that’s unacceptable. His steak was good, but my “pasta” was a joke for the price — tiny portion, no bread, nothing to make it feel worth what they’re charging. On top of that, the service was pushy and inconsiderate. Our server kept trying to upsell us instead of making the evening enjoyable, which felt rude, especially during a birthday dinner. Definitely not impressed and won’t be returning!!
We have been to mission point many times and always got a package to include dinner/breakfasts. The package changed this year to be a food/beverage spending amount. As usual we spent the majority of that allotment at Chianti and were exceedingly disappointed. We were a party of four and ran into old friends we hadn’t seen for some time at the restaurant. To a person, all six of us voiced the same experience - the value is no longer there at Chianti. The meals were mediocre at best and the portions weren’t small, they were minuscule. We paid only $30 less overall at Chianti than we did the following night at The Woods.. The Woods was so much more in value, quality and taste. To be in a similar price point and so lacking comparatively at the very least reflects a blatant disregard for your customer’s’ experience. If management reads this, I implore you to compare price and value to other like venues on the island. My hope is someone can address this discrepancy and get Mission Points Chianti back on track for those who love this resort and truly want to see it succeed and flourish. Unfortunately, we don’t plan to dine at Chianti again due to this experience even though it was previously a must do for our group. Please do better.
Beautiful setting, veal piccata about twice as thick as it should be (and tough), not the freshest whitefish slathered with a tomato sauce, what tasted like canned artichokes billed as roasted, with these 2 courses served way too quickly in about an hour at considerable cost. What's not to dislike (other than the setting and a nice server). Never again.
I can’t figure out these reviews - this place was really bad - so bad I felt compelled to write this review because I can’t understand any of the 3+ star ones. Starting when we sat down as a group of us - we had to ask for menus, and then more menus because apparently when we asked the first time they thought only half of us wanted menus. So we ordered and our appetizers took around 40 min to come out, the kids food came out around the same time. Calamari was cold, bruschetta had no flavor and was soggy, flatbread had good flavor but on cold floppy bread, antipasti however was good. Bread service I should also mention was good as well. Main entrees took another 40 min to come out - scallops were cold, small, rubbery and overall not good. Chicken Parm was deep fried, had cheese loosely thrown on top (note not baked on) so it was quasi melted, sat on top of a small amount of store cooked noodles. Also this dish was ice cold as well. My mom had veggie lasagna and that seemed to be the consensus best of the bunch. Service overall was slow as the main server had no bus help which seems crazy for a big table. I get the limited schedule the island is open prevents constant training for servers so I give that a pass but the food was truly awful. By far the worst meal of any we had on the island which was surprising since everything else at mission point was great (even the little coffee shop). Save your money - the only reason to come here is the view but you’d be better off getting carry out and sitting on the chairs on the lawn if you wanted to dine with a view.
