I stayed 1 night for work and had dinner here. Dinner was a little pricie, over my work budget but it was delicious. I had salmon served on a black plate in a dark room.. it was challenging to see it but I managed. The room was ok, cold initially ans had no bottled water, although a small thing.. it was a shame. Staff very friendly though and would revisit
We had a lovely stay at The Black Horse Inn. The location is peaceful and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Our room was very spacious and perfectly clean. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the on-site restaurant served a delicious dinner in a cosy, relaxed atmosphere. A great place to stay if you’re looking for comfort, good service and a picturesque setting.
Cant tell you about the rooms has we did not stay there, you need to see yourself on that One. We’ve been driving by for years trying to avoid motorway traffic so the pub we thought we stopped this time and well what can I say? Absolutely stunning pub beautiful service and one of the best meals I’ve had in the UK for years. 10 out of 10 but they went above and beyond.Very, very hospitable very welcoming and I’ll do recommend. I never book a table or plan for an evening meal. It’s a case of turning up and seeing what happens and they helped out where they could..
Really happy with the service. Due to traffic and unexpected road closures we were late but the staff accommodated us wonderfully. An older gentleman was on his own as his son was also stuck in traffic and the staff cared for him amazingly till his son arrived. Would definitely eat here again.
Lovely pub with motel style accommodation. Room was spacious with all the required amenities. Cooked breakfast was 10/10. Staff extremely friendly and accommodating to customer requirements. Would definitely stay again. Gives the hidden gem feeling. Thank you Black Horse Inn
This place was recommend to us, so we thought we'd try it out. I must say, we wasn't disappointed! First impression was good. It looked like an old traditional English Country Inn. Full of character and history. Although it is quite pricey, you get what you pay for. The food is very good, portion sizes are generous and the staff welcoming and friendly. It has a lovely atmosphere throughout. We liked it and will definitely go back!
Wonderful food, lovely staff and reasonable price. Had the black horse burger and you definitely need to be really hungry, it was massive. Wonderful evening all round.
5 stars aren't nearly enough. 2 nights not enough. Superlative food service -food and atmosphere. Relax - enjoy , perfect base for sightseeing. Great variety of comfy accommodation. Can't stay longer - Can't get back soon enough. John (the owner ) has been lucky enough to surround himself with an excellent team headed up by Macalla. The whole crew are superb and this has been one of the highlights of our trip to the UK. Thank you .
I have stayed here a couple of times through work and always enjoy my stay. The steak is great and the breakfasts and even better. The rooms are very clean and have everything you need.
Bedroom was spacious with a very comfortable bed. They need to re-think cleaning products as although I was very happy with cleanliness of the room it had a extremely strong smell of bleach and had to ventilate room before we slept with the kids. Bedroom doors also need labelling as we had sombody try and get in at 1am. Bar was lovely, great decor and great layout. Food was delicious. Staff in both the bar and hotel were well organised and friendly. Kids loved the cat, Bill and Dog, Jack. The beer garden is massive and well thought out. Overall happy with our stay and would definitely look at booking again
Excellent stay, big clean rooms, food was really good, had the chicken stew and dumplings and a great selection of ales too
We just spent NYE at The Black Horse and had a wonderful time. Every single member of staff was friendly, and always smiling. We had a meal in the loft and saw the new year in downstairs in the bar where there was a lovely atmosphere. Our room was perfect. Spacious, spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. There was even a miniature Christmas tree complete with lights on one of the bedside tables. Fluffy white towels and a very comfortable bed. To add to the above, it's a very dog-friendly place. We didn't bring our pooch this time, but our friends had theirs and he was made to feel very welcome. Lots of free parking too, and really great for a celebration with on site accommodation. Would love to visit in the summer when not quite so wet and windy! Mother Nature's issue, not the venue's! We will definitely return and recommend!
We had the most delicious meal here last week. We called the pub very last minute and they were able to get us a table super quickly. The value for money is incredible and the food was really delicious. We had the chicken and nut roasts and they came with all sides included, including cauliflower cheese. The pub has beautiful views and a warm country pub feel. It was very busy too which is always a good sign!
Lovely staff.Warm and historic Pub, again, friendly staff.Parking on site next to our room.grest atmosphere to enjoy an evening meal
We spent our Xmas day here eating amazing food with great service! Thank you for making our engagement one to remember!!!
I have been going to the Black Horse for over 30 years and honestly cant say I have ever had a bad experience. Had a meal last weekend and as per usual we wasn't disappointed. Instantly greeted by a pleasant member of staff, offered a table despite having not booked. Beautiful selection of seasonal meals on offer, food was of the most highest standard. This isnt just pub grub, it is a level far above that and cooked to perfection. I had a Risotto Verde from the special board which was probably the best risotto I have ever eaten anywhere. Faultless service by proper helpful and friendly waitresses coupled with a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Its almost a shame to leave such a good review as the last thing I want is to encourage more people there, wished I could almost keep it to myself, but it is far too good not to share. 10/10 Black Horse Inn, you've never let me down yet.
We stayed here with a large group of family for our wedding that we were having nearby. I booked a large group of rooms well in advance and the whole team were so helpful for arranging this and accommodating any changes right up until the last minute. We were having hair and make up done for the morning of the wedding and they were so helpful to provide me with a room with good natural light and vanity desks in the rooms we needed. Check-in was so easy and friendly and the rooms were nice and clean. We also booked a large table of 20 people in the pub for the night before the wedding. We didn’t ask for anything special but as they knew it was associated with our wedding they went above and beyond, giving us our own space in the pub and arranged the tables in a U-shape so everyone could talk to each other. We pre-ordered food and they got everything spot on, no mistakes or missed orders and it was all delicious. The service was amazing and they made sure to keep everyone topped up with drinks throughout the evening. For breakfast the next morning they gave us the same space so everyone could eat together at a time that worked for them. Thank you so much to the whole team for going above and beyond and making our stay and pre-wedding celebrations so lovely!
This is the third time we have stayed at the Black horse Inn. I really like that they are so dog friendly, Monty had his own dog towel, sheet and even a couple of poo bags. The room was really clean and comfortable, with convenient access to outside for Monty. We had an evening meal and breakfast, both were delicious. I would definitely recommend staying at the Black Horse Inn, you get a friendly welcome, efficient service and I think value for money too.
Booked up for a roast on Sunday, been looking forward to it for ages….and it didn’t disappoint on so many levels. The food was exceptional along with the service…..cauliflower cheese is amazing…. BUT!!! The one thing that will remain with us for ever is……a pint of lager that my partner had ordered suddenly just dropped to the floor….at no point had either of us had touch/knocked the glass . We just sat there and tried to comprehend what had happened. We called a waitress over to let her know of the spillage and asked her if the pub had ever been haunted. She informed us that the pub had been haunted by two young girls and many things had happened….Wow….such amazing experience and will definitely return. Highly recommend!!!
Me and my partner had our wedding reception here we all had a lovely day staff were very attentive and friendly the location is beautiful the food amazing. We also stayed a night with very clean and comfortable rooms. Very relaxing place to stay .Highly recommended .
This place is wonderful. What better place in the middle of a quaint village. The little independent rooms are very sufficient and equipped with tea and coffee facilities. The bed was lovely and we had an amazing sleep, the food in the pub was beautiful, compliments to the chef, the guinea fowl was lovely. All the staff were smiling and helpfully welcoming we'll definitely return in the summer. Thankyou
Review of the restaurant: this place is lovely! Either beautiful views, It changes the menu often and has interesting offers, from burgers to fowl supreme. Definitely stands out from typical pub food and the place inside is so beautiful! Quintessentially British pub. And the bread offer is AMAZING!
We didn’t stay there. But had really great dinner! We have tried Vebison (deer) and meet was really great! The dish in general was amazing! Great amount of food, and it was very delicious! We also tried different drinks, ginger beer was nice. My colleagues got cocktails and beer and we all were happy with the place. Place itself very well decorated!
This is a real favourite pub of mine, an absolute gem. Service, food, beer, environment, I’ve never been disappointed, and honestly wouldn’t change a thing. The garden is lovely on a summer’s day (hot air balloons sometimes float past the valley) and the fireplace is very welcome in winter. To the owners, management and staff, keep it up ❤️
Tl;dr - When did you last have a meal you spoke about for years because it was 'that' good? The Black Horse Inn can make you that meal, today. Traveling for work, I was joined by my dog, Hamish. I stayed for two nights, having both Dinner and Breakfast at the Inn. The rooms are terrific, a welcome box for the dog was in the room on arrival, and all my meals were accommodating for my dog. I was fortunate to be at the bar for them all, but this isn't a guarantee to have one of these seats. A dog dedicated seating area (upstairs) is otherwise readily available. Large double beds, plenty of parking (my family room, the only one left for my stay, had a private space in front of it, which fit a Skoda Kodiaq with ease). Decent water pressure, and a solid set of tea and biscuits. The location is sublime (although accessible by narrow country roads). The inn is perfect to use as a base for dog walks, the nearby castle ruins are up a hill, but readily accessible and perfect for off-lead walking. The real star? The food. My god. Across two days, I had: Starters - BBQ Panko Pork Cheeks; Beef Carpaccio Mains - Slow Braised Pork Belly; Pan Roasted Duck Breast Dessert - Sticky Toffee Sundae --- The burgers? Looked excellent, the pub classics? Terrific. But. You might be doing yourself out of having one of the best meals of your life if you don't check out the rest of the menu. Words don't quite do the quality justice. Last week I was in the new Brasserie of London Hilton on Park Lane. The food here was better. The pan roasted duck breast was flawlessly executed. Flawless. Cooked to perfection, but the combination of the sweet potato puree, rhubarb gel, and grilled asparagus elevated the entire dish into something I would expect to see on the Great British Menu or MasterChef, only without the audacity and pompousness. This was quite literally, the best of British on a plate, and I'm saddened that I don't have a higher platform in which to provide a review for the meal than in this Google review. It truly deserves it. As I said to FoH, if the chef doesn't have a cookbook, or isn't in the process of writing one? They should. I'll be the first pre-order. -- If you're reading these reviews and are on the fence about booking, staying, eating, drinking, or visiting here. Just do it. But book ahead. The experience I've had I'll take with me for years to come. Unforgettable for the best reasons.
I have travelled the world in some of the best hotels and although this hotel is a country pub style with separate rooms, it has been one of the nicest experiences I have had in an hotel. The staff give every effort to help you, the local beer is great, the food is good and the ambiance is perfect for me. Definitely would recommend a stay
Fab little pub with some pleasant rooms and very friendly service. Food was delightful.
Fabulous stay at The Black Horse. Our room was warm and comfortable and exceptionally clean. The bathroom was very clean and smelt lovely. Good shower and nice complimentary toiletries. We travelled with our dog and he was made very welcome both in our room and at breakfast time. The room included a dog box with a towel for wet paws and covers for sleeping on. There was even a decent umbrella provided for the short walk to breakfast should it be needed. A very thought touch. Our breakfasts were exceptionally good with good quality ingredients used. It set us up for the day!! The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. We look forward to returning soon. Thankyou
Lovely pub with beautiful view and nice large outdoor dining space. Popped in for a drink, Lewis (or might be Luke) was very friendly and welcoming. Thank you
Fabulous food, really first class, and Isadora who was waiting on us was superbly attentive, funny and engaging, excellent service all round
Just had 3 really, really, enjoyable nights at the BHI. Wonderful location, went on two lovely runs in the area directly on to the North Downs Way. Rooms were fine, great bath and shower, plenty of space. Lovely food, dinner and breakfast were great, in a wonderful atmospheric pub. (Amazing mushrooms at breakfast!) Lovely staff across the board , helpful, friendly, welcoming from reception, to the owner, to the cat, to the wait staff - all lovely. My one, single improvement point would be to have fresh coffee for breakfast over instant. Would absolutely come back - thank you for a lovely friendly stay.
We had a lovely stay at the Black Horse Inn, the food is fantastic the rooms are clean and comfy. A special mention to Mikayla who went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Will definitely be back xx
I have been staying at the Black Horse a lot in the past few months because it's a brilliant establishment. Firstly the Black Horse Inn is a beautiful pub. It has great food, friendly staff and lovely aesthetics. Secondly, the hotel is unique, always clean and priced fairly. The reception staff are always really friendly and make you feel so welcome. Highly recommend this place if you're staying in the local area or fancy going out somewhere for a nice dinner!
One of my favorite pubs to visit in Kent – the Biddenden cider is a must-try, the food is consistently excellent, and the cosy atmosphere makes it even better.
Fantastic meal for our large family group on a Sunday afternoon. Roasts were generous and tasty, the lamb with dauphinoise potatoes was excellent and the mussels also very good. Burger was huge! Very friendly service and good beer selection. Highly recommended if you’re in the area.
First visit with friends for lunch. Very friendly staff and excellent bangers and mash. Plenty of gravy. Reasonable prices.
Me and my friend just came for some lunch, it is amazing, the garden is big and open. Inside is very cozy, quiet and peaceful. Food is amazing, recommend the burger. All their food is from local farmers which is amazing. If the weather is nice and wanna go somewhere definitely recommend. You will love it.
So peaceful and quiet - everything that is needed is in the room - had sausage and mash for tea - which was lovely, we couldn't eat it all - onion rings could have been left off. Really nice setting - well done to all involved. You're smashing it!!!
What can I say about this delightful little Inn we had our mothers wake there and was very pleased. The buffet was delicious. The only thing I would change would be the sandwich selection also less, but more of those honey and mustard sausages 😋 and the sausage rolls, but everyone was extremely happy. And of course, the sun was shining. Thank you very much for a lovely afternoon and all you did.
In the area visiting family and friends, they took us to the Black Horse for dinner. Beer selection first, had a great selection of Micro brew beers, all of which we were allowed to taste. The Iron Bridge Mosaic was fabulous. Food was delicious, I had the calves liver, was so soft and melted in mouth, only negative is I wanted the broccoli instead of potatoes, I didn't get either, I got sautéed spinach. Didn't spoil the evening but maybe a training moment on how to write orders for people's request.
Lovely place. Fantastic food 😋 Rooms need attention. Broken plug in sink. Hot water took ages to come through and then was only tepid. The adjoining doors take away any privacy.
Came here for food and drinks. It's lovely, but if the prices were reduced by a tiny amount, people would stay longer and order twice as much. Google listings for hotel rooms and pub/restaurant need to be split. I look on Google maps for opening times and it just tells me when check in/out times are! Ps. Bring back the scotch eggs. I want a proper bar snack menu! Been a patron for 35+ years
Rooms are clean, comfortable with all the facilities you need. Needed a small repair which was attended to quickly. Lovely location. Incorporates a small steep hill for some rooms. Plently of free parking close to rooms. Associated pub is full of character with a varied and appetising menu. Reasonably priced. Recommended.
The room was tight but clean and included all the basics, plus a few extra comforts like biscuits and tea. The double bed was quite uncomfortable, but our bunk beds were fine. Pub food and service were excellent and the atmosphere there is perfect!
We went here for Sunday lunchtime. It is an idyllic country pub with its oak beams and hops hanging everywhere. A very popular place on the Pilgrims way with cyclists, walkers and horse riders coming past. The Sunday lunch was very good. Some of had chicken and others beef. The deserts were they only let down. They were unbelievable small for the price. Tasty but I would avoid deserts as they are not good value for money. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Overall I enjoyed my Sunday lunch and would go again.
2 night working trip solo. A lovely old pub with olde world charm. You really couldn't find a pub more quintessentially English. Rooms lovely and warm with spacious bathroom (Clover, block 4). Restaurant also very good but £11 for a glass of wine is pushing it a bit. Have the prawns starter and sausage and mash to get the best value out of it.
We ate here and have done a number of times. The lodges that are separate from the pub look nice and reasonably priced, although I haven't stayed here but intend to. We ate in restaurant, the pub is a proper oldy world pub with lots of beans, just what you would expect of an old pub. Service is very friendly and food great, especially if you are a meat eater. I selfishly would love to see one or two more vegetarian choices. We will be back again soon.
Rooms were a bit gloomy but nice and quiet. Food was very good was service slow and prices high. Nice old pub though and very good breakfast.
We have been coming to the Black horse every Tuesday evening for about 5 years. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and the food is fantastic. However, recently there has been a fair amount of changeover on staff, and the closing time seems to get earlier every week. This evening, last orders were at 10:12pm. We did mention that the last orders is getting earlier and earlier every week, and this evening the pub was still quite busy when we were told its last orders. Its such a shame but I really think the owner should know that the staff are now closing early when the pub is still very busy. I really hope the owner/ management can speak with the evening staff to ensure the pub stays open until 11pm as they are loosing money and customers by closing early.
A nice little country pub. We had food and drinks for a large group. Service was good, but took a while initially. Food was average, well presented, but pricey. Better of the 2 pubs in the area
Whilst the location is great for a stay before heading to Folkestone and France, and the staff were friendly and welcoming, we were quite disappointed with our overnight stay. The pillows were thin as were the curtains and so we didn’t sleep well. The service in the restaurant for evening meal and breakfast was quite slow- took over an hour to be served our evening meal. They also didn’t make clear the fish meal from the specials board didn’t come with any vegetables so we only got fish and potatoes, as we hadn’t ordered any sides. At breakfast as we had our dog we had to sit in the upstairs restaurant but the buffet was downstairs so you had to carry what you wanted upstairs. Yet in the evening dogs were downstairs. It felt like we paid over what our experience was.
We booked close to M20 after a long drive through france and the ferry. Expected an old English pub (for a nice pint) and quiet rooms. Oh dear....we arrived 2 minutes after 11pm (ferry late) to be told bar was closed and we couldnt have a drink (even to take to room). Staff kindly left keys in room - but way to room was badly lit with no-one to guide. Rooms were good. However in morning vast accommodation area looked more like a run down holiday camp! Also being close to M20 there was constant noise all night. Would not recommend at all - stay in a premier inn - cheaper and better!!
Booked a week in advnace for a sunday roast Once entered -had to search for staff to be seated -once seated no service returned to table to ask for drinks etc, so i requested at the bar. - 30 minutes later when staff did tend the table for food we were informed that there was no lamb, beef, rost potatos, stuffing, etc We decided to abandon the meal, the staff didnt seem to be bothered. Looks like a nice place, maybe just a bad day. The circumstances werent great, but the staff etiquette was a massive let down.
