Great environment and the selection of food is plenty and great tasting. Fresh tortillas both corn and flour. Staff is very good, attentive, but always busy. You will enjoy 😉
Stopped for early dinner after s high school musical. Haven't been to Ponchos for several years and really like the atmosphere. We're older with a much smaller appetite and shared a fajita dinner.
Ponchos is hands down one of the best Mexican restaurants around! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and served hot. Everything from the salsa to the entrées tastes homemade and authentic. But what truly makes the experience exceptional is our server, Jaime. Jaime is absolutely amazing, attentive, friendly, and always makes you feel welcomed. He checks in at the perfect times, remembers details, and genuinely goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect. His service takes the whole dining experience to another level. If you’re looking for delicious Mexican food paired with outstanding service, Ponchos with Jaime as your server is the place to be. Highly recommend! 🌮👏
My husband & I are here in the Valley visiting his family and his sisters were like "OMG, you need MUST go to Ponchos!!". We have a Ponchos in the Dallas area and it's grimy & disgusting 🫣 so I told them I wasn't interested in going to this one. One of the sisters showed me pictures of the food & that's what got me to come here with them. This Ponchos here in the Valley is nothing like the garbage in Dallas I can promise you that!!!! Great service and phenomenal food!!! The fajita tacos were the best thing I ever had 🤯🤯 That meat was cooked perfectly. The rice & beans were great as well 😋 I enjoyed how a gentlemen playing guitar would come around with his guitar & sing at your table, then another gentlemen would come around with roses 🌹 to buy 😍 What a wonderful experience ❤️ 💖 Thank you Ponchos!!!!!
Great service! The variety of food options is insane. They also custom make dishes if available. The prices are adequate to the quality of food and service while the wait times are decent being that it’s a busy place. It’s located near the shopping mall and many centric locations near downtown McAllen, will definitely recommend if you’re in the area. If you haven’t tried it, you haven’t visited the Valley.
Food was great (low sodium - good for those watching salt intake). Staff was great, friendly and helpful. Will recommend. Every place and person have their moments - good and not that good days. I would ignore those low scores. Has rooms for events - 3 different sizes (big, medium and small). Good prices and good location as well. You can't leave without trying "The Tiramisu" is to die for just Awesome! Came back for breakfast buffet OMG!!! Great selection - omelet done to order and pancakes as well... Great price for the buffet... Love it!

Very large indoor Mexican restaurant. It’s lost its appeal over the years. The service becomes a little weak when serving large parties. We’ve had the fajita botana platter and have been very satisfied. Portion sizes are large. Rice and beans taste authentic. Their chips and salsa are also good. Nice added touch with the traditional Mexican colors and decor. The large fountain in the center tie it all together.
We were out of town, it was decent but wouldn't come back. I think it's more for the locals vs outsiders

We went here with family for dinner after a long flight. The food was good, but not great. The waitress had difficulty with English, so our orders were screwed up. The charro beans were very good.
Nearly 5 stars. The food and service was well prepared and serve hot and with portions sizes above typical. The only negative was they start with very few chips which I like since ther is nearly …

The place looks great, but the food is way overpriced and the service is in desperate need of customer service training. I had to order my appetizer twice and get up to get napkins since the waiter didn't bring any. I had made plans to celebrate a friend's birthday and I showed up early to save a couple of tables, since it was going to be about 12 of us, and I'm glad I did. I ended up moving the celebration to another restaurant once I saw the dining area turning into a concert, which wasn't bad except that it was pretty loud. I ended up paying over $21 for three beers and chips and salsa.
We went to Ponchos.. because we were feeling nostalgic about the old Ponchos that was in Pharr. This place has gone down hill badly,to put it very delicately. We walked in and it was Saturday afternoon, it was not busy at all. Even with that.. we had to wait to be seated because the servers were discussing who would take us on and seat/serve us. Then.. the server asked rudely .. "how many?" To which we just signaled her.. 4 fingers. Then..we entered..and she didn't even attend us.. someone else took over. The place was HOT and had fans on..and it smelled badly.. our food wasn't great. I ordered 1 lb grilled fajitas..and it wasn't 1 lb at all. It was at most more or less 1/2 pound and a bunch of over grilled onions and bell peppers. This was served on a hot comal plate.. and it had about 3 decent sliced fajitas pieces .. the rest was burnt crisp edges tid bits of meat. All this while..we had 2 other servers tend to us. We didnt even know how or who to tip. We left a tip just out of courtesy...but the service and quality didn't merit any of it. Honestly will NEVER be going back ever again. I dont recommend it at all.
They are not like our typical Texas Jalisco, Mexican restaurant; they stop breakfast at noon on a weekend, prices are outrageous, especially with subpar food. Oh, and their "sopapillas" were $20 for chips doused in sugar and cinnamon and served with oatmeal 🥣 IDK. Why? They had NO honey...The waitress we had was MIA 95% of the time, and a Silver Bullet train when she did bless us with her presence-we couldn't get a request in as she zipped by! Avoid this place like the plague 🤢

DO NOT GO!! Wow — what a disappointing experience. The restaurant closes at 10:00 PM, and we arrived at 9:00 PM. To be respectful of their closing time, we chose our meals right away to avoid any delays. However, the waiter took quite a while to return and actually take our order. Before we even finished our meals, I asked for the check to help expedite the process and be courteous of their closing time. Once the food arrived, we ate quickly so we wouldn’t keep the staff past closing. We finished at 9:46 PM and were simply sitting for a moment to digest when, at exactly 9:59 PM, the waiter came to our table — politely, but firmly — to tell us we needed to leave because the doors would be locked at 10:00 PM. Mind you, this was after I had already paid a 22.7% tip. I commented that it felt rude, and he responded that it wasn’t meant that way, just that they would be locking the doors. Regardless, being asked to leave one minute before closing — after making every effort to be considerate and tipping generously — left a very poor impression. In addition, as we were still in shock while exiting, we said goodnight to a male and female employee, and received no response. That lack of basic courtesy only added to the disappointment.
Where do I start! I went with family for the first time to this place. We ordered beef and chicken botana for 6 that was literally the worst botana I have ever had, ever! The botana was brought to the table very quickly which leads me to believe that it was pre-cooked. The meat looked greasy and old as if it was sitting under heat for hours, which it likely was. The botana was very liquidy, dripping water or juice, and the meat was over seasoned. Also, it was over $160 and ridiculously small with only a small amount of meat and lots of overcooked veggies and soggy chips. Very overpriced for the size and more so for the quality. We also asked for water and we got a bunch of hot plastic bottle and no glasses. I had to order glasses with ice and the waitress forgot and I had to remind her like 3 times until she finally brought them. The place was desolate and now I understand why. The place also looks old and the floors and ceilings were dirty and dusty. That should have been a clue! I truly don’t know how this place has managed to stay open. Horrible food, bad service, dirty building, overpriced meals, and poor quality food. I will definitely never go to this place ever again. Do yourself a favor, don’t go to this place. There are many other much better options to enjoy with your loved ones. In fact, any other place you go to, even jack in the box for their crispy tacos, is probably a better choice than this place. That’s saying something!
This restaurant was an awesome restaurant, but now very disappointed with their service. Meat was raw and disgusting unable to chew and enjoy the meal. My family was disappointed as well, will never go there again.
I ordered a botana for, 4 & the picture proves that this is not for 4 people. This is how a botana for 2 people looks like. I normally don't give negative reviews, but I don't want this to happen to anyone else. In fact this is my 2nd negative review out of the many reviews that I have done.
Dont know why this place its famous. In general this restaurant its really bad. Place its all dark you cant see the menu. Waiter was fast but he forgot things several times we had to ask twice. Tampiqueña plate was really bad meat was raw all red on thicker parts meat was really bad we did not finish it. 70 bucks for two go to bigos, palenque grill, or roadhouse but this place not good at all.
Oh my goodness it is really loud for no reason, I literally couldn't handle it and I couldn't hear my family talking we were trying to have a decent conversation but it was so loud. Everything was really expensive on the menu even the kids menu was expensive. The water tasted so gross it was awful. Getting close to the restrooms it was diabolical My nose was defiled. Definitely not the best spot to eat out with the family.
