Hidden gem in Mechanicsville. Excellent food and very friendly staff! The Toasted Ravioli app and Chicken Florentine were both outstanding. Unfortunately, I got a tad too excited for my entree and failed to get a photo when it came out.
Do not overlook The Pasta House Italian Restaurant located at 8196 Atlee Road in Mechanicsville, Virginia. It has a completely unassuming look presented by its strip-mall looking exterior but serves absolutely fantastic cuisine. We have lived in the area for 25 years and have found no better Italian fare in the area. Consistently delicious, with an excellent wine and drink selection, and always great service. Tonight was no exception. This weekend we are celebrating my wife's birthday by taking a few days off together and just letting it all hang out! She wanted to kick-off her extended birthday weekend by washing the dog, voting early, then getting cleaned up and heading to The Pasta House. And so we did. Fantastic. We love their house Merlot, which we think is Cartlidge & Browne. As always, the excellent Calamari appetizer was artfully prepared to be crispy on the outside and very tender inside. Then came the house salads, lightly topped with their house Italian dressing. My wife followed this with the Seafood Cannelloni main dish, while I had the Salmon Livornese, both perfectly prepared. Might even be our new Pasta House favorites! Quite a meal, so we ordered a couple cannoli to go... and shared one later at home. Crispy, light shell, that was well filled. Delicious. Fantastic ambience for our date night and her birthday celebration. We will return.
Slow and relaxed dining experience. Homemade pasta, delicious sauces and a to-die-for appetizer, Mozzarella in Carozza. Sleepy little place and well worth a visit!
We really enjoyed our impulse stop at Pasta House. We were passing thru Richmond on 295 and I just asked Google maps for food near me. We didn't want to eat chain food and picked Italian. This is a little local gem. There was no wait for seating and service was fairly fast. They have a very good menu and it's very Italian. We had Italian wedding soup, and 2 veal dishes because no one in our area serves veal. Each entree came with a salad. We also shared a glass of reasonably priced chianti since we were driving thru. The food was well prepared, hot and tasty. Good simple tomato sauce and quality mozzarella were used in making the dishes as well as fresh pasta. You can tell the difference over Olive Garden and other chain restaurants. We wish this restaurant was in our home town.
Great little Italian place. The food service and atmosphere were perfect. Went there for my son's 15th birthday. But I can also see this as a date night place. Please stop by if yiu are in the area.
Wow! Being a New Yorker, I am so particular about Italian food. You guys a super! I'm a fan. Seafood Cannelloni, Rockfish with a white wine sauce and a Birthday Cannoli. I'm sold! Will definitely return. And the Moscato was perfect. Thank you so much! Servers very attentive! Max is great!
We have eaten at Pasta House quite a bit over the years. The service is always great and the menu never changes. Still a fan favorite when you want a quiet dinner for two.
A lovely, quaint little restaurant in Hanover County with a five star Italian Chef! When you enter the restaurant you are always greeted by the chef and his lovely wife and you feel like family. I’ve eaten here for years and have never been disappointed. This is my go to place for celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries. Last night I had an expresso martini, it was lovely. I had the stuffed seafood cannelloni with a savory lobster alfredo sauce and it was divine. It was a lovely birthday dinner. Pasta House is truly a hidden gem and if you have not eaten there, well, you just need to go! You’ll love it!
Family visiting from out of town and wanted Italian. My sister said it was the best meal she has had in a long time. She had the Salmon Livornese and I had stuffed flounder. The Salmon is one of my favorites as well. The white wine lemon sauce is excellent. Also the house dressing is very good. Highly recommend The Pasta House!
Great, hot and quickly served food. The seafood Bianco and stuffed shrimp were perfect! Topped off with raspberry cheesecake. Young server was so friendly and knowledgeable about everything. Long time favorite restaurant! Thank you for making our date night so special.
Excellent family owned restaurant. Great food, reasonable prices.
It was an enjoyable experience listening to jazz music and sitting at our booth. The outside building isn't impressive, yet the inside provides a nice ambiance with elegant black tablecloths and crystal glasses. The food was very flavorful! My husband really enjoyed the wine sauce mozzarella appetizer and I loved the flavor of the stuffed spinach chicken. We would highly recommend the restaurant!
Food and Staff is excellent...highly recommend.
It was our first visit and I was very impressed. Everything on the menu looked good! Upon the waitress's recommendation, I ordered the stuffed flounder, and it was fantastic! The parmesean sauce was awesome. It was a bit dim inside, making it hard to see the menu, but the music and seating were nice. There was an upcharge for a Ceasar salad, which I didn't see posted on the menu. No big deal. I'm going back!!
Pasta House is an Italian restaurant that far outshines its simple name. We've only been at Pasta House for lunches, but the quality of the cuisine is top drawer!!! Every diner at our tables RAVED regarding the taste of his/her dishes. From the appetizers/salads, through the entrees, completed with desserts... EVERY MORSEL was perfect... deliciously PERFECT. And, the Lunch Specials Menu was/is a tremendous value. Masterfully prepared, reasonably priced.
Quiet, good service, clean. Good food portions. Amazing quality food. Has good flavoring. Cheese and sauce was not overpowering, that's very hard to come by for Italian restaurants. I can tell the pasta is homemade and fresh. The sauce tasted homemade 😋. The herds seem fresh too. Tiramisu is really good! Really creative food presentation.
This is the best authentic Italian restaurant that I've found in the Richmond area! Food is always delicious, and the service is amazing. I especially love the shrimp cocktail appetizer. The sauce for pasta dishes is great, and not too sweet. It's really wonderful that the staff is also very friendly and appreciative of the business. We used to frequent Giovanni's, which also has very good food, but there's no comparison to the excellent service that Pasta House provides!
1st time there and we had a great experience. 4 of us each had something different. Home made pasta is cooked perfectly. Shrimp dishes were tender and chicken was perfect. Polo Livornese was great and we'll come back for more.
My husband and I were stationed in Italy for 4 years. While there we learned that American interpretation of Italian food is way off. After we left Italy in 1995, we only found three places that serve meals that reminded us of the food we had in Italy. One in St. Louis, one in Swaffham, Norfolk in the UK, and one right here in Mechanicsville, VA. , and not a one is Olive Garden (which has nothing remotely similar to true Italian food). Angel is a master chef, he and his wife Carla prepare and serve meals that are made fresh daily and remind us of the meals we had in Italy. We have been going here for eight years and have enjoyed every meal. Yes we tried a couple other places in the Richmond area, however they do not even come close to the quality of fresh, and perfectly flavored meals. We decided no where else is as good. Pasta House is a hidden gem and a well kept secret.
Busy and understaffed for Valentines Day. Which is so understandable for a small restaurant. They honor reservations just hard for them on such a busy day!
My wife and i were pleasantly Suprized how nice the atmosphere was when we entered the restaurant. Very welcoming and pleasant. Great food ,large portions.
Nice food presentation. Enjoyed our meal. Upon my next visit I will request my pasta be on the side not under my food. Be prepared not to be in a rush.
An excellent authentic Italian dining experience. The staff is super friendly and the food is great. The prices leave a little to be desired, they're up there with finer dining venues, and the portions can be tad meager for what you're paying, but you'll love what you get.
Nice, quiet place, food was really good, service was on point. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Overall a great experience, clean environment, friendly and attentive staff, and the food was good. Drinks were good too! To recommendations: offer olive oil and vinegar with the bread, and in the checking on customers I think everyone did a good job. Some places are overbearing and check too often and don't read the room and the environment and whether or not people are looking to be waited on or want to have a conversation. I think the staff do good on that as well. Thanks for a great experience and for those of you reading that are new this is a great place to check out. They close up at around 9:30 p.m..
First time dining here with some friends who raved about their food. The place is nicer than it looks from the outside. Pleasant service. I felt welcomed from the time we entered. We did not get our drinks refilled (possibly not a service offered). Initially I was going for the Salmon special but changed my mind (wish I wouldn't ...). I had the Shrimp Fettuccini with Crab and Alfredo Lobster Sauce. It was good once I added some salt to enhanced the flavor. I didn't really taste any Crab. They did have big chunks of Lobster but only 4 Large Shrimp. I needed more Shrimp to accompany my Pasta (call me greedy 😜). Homemade everything so extra points for that. Good portion sizes. I was looking for delicious because Italian Food is one of my favorite dishes. My husband had the Chicken special. He devoured it. Our friends are regulars and enjoyed the Stuffed Flounder (tasty) & the Seafood Caravelle. It looked scrumptious. I don't like Scallops or would've joined her. Good prices and portion sizes. I will return because I saw several dishes worth trying.
First time eating here. I have the veal parmigiana, and it was pretty damn good. Another in our party had the seafood cannelloni, and was very surprised at how good it was. They play classics like Sinatra, things like that, not all Michael Buble covers. Good portions for everything, but I eat a lot, so some people may have lunch for the next day sorted when they leave. Only con was the table was a little small for four people, and a bit wobbly.
We were delighted with our takeout order last night... The artichoke on the salmon was most excellent... So worth a night of not cooking at home late...
My husband and I love the atmosphere here. It's our date night go to. We've been pleased with our meals at every visit. The wine selection is good as well. This Valentine (2019) their wine special was a red sparkling wine, wish I could remember the name of it but, it was amazing.
Small & unassuming from the outside, but friendly, warm & intimate inside. Great for families or cozy dates. Seafood dishes are fresh & wonderful. Some might think it's a little pricey, but the portions are nice & the service is great! Just stop by & give a chance. We think of it as our "hidden gem".
This was our first time eating at this restaurant meeting family and friends for a quick bite. The food was good and service was attentive. The atmosphere was your standard strip mall location look and feel. We would likely dine here again.
I travel for work, and my hotel doesn’t have a kitchen or even a microwave which means I have to eat out. I went here because the reviews were good and it was next to where I was working. The staff was friendly, and the food looked good when I received it. The pasta had absolutely no seasoning. I had to use a packet of seasoning from Red Robin that was left from the day before. The bread looked fresh, but it was plain white bread no butter, no garlic, not toasted. They also did not include any napkins or utensils with my order but luckily, I keep a travel set it with me .
The complementary bread they served are cold and the butter is hard..Maybe because they are complements....and I can buy the bread at Walmart.
The food is Great and quite reasonably priced. Usually we have excellent service, however, this time it was pretty poor. Although we made a reservation, our table was not prepared for us at the appointed time (restaurant was only 40% full). Wait staff seemed to want to hurry us through ordering. We had to remind server multiple times about items we ordered but had not received. Two items never did make it to the table (to be fair they were not on the bill). Soups were served at the same time as the Entrée. We will return in hopes this was a one time issue.
The food was good. Had to find waitress to get drinks refilled. Three members of the party ordered Lattes that arrived cold to the table. Also had to look up server to get check for our meal.
I feel that the food here is mediocre at best. Don’t order the eggplant parmigiana whatever you do; you will find that the eggplant is not breaded and fried or baked. It is just layered into the dish after being fried or baked or whatever they do. I ate about half and didn’t ask to box up the leftovers.
On my last visit, I was a bit disappointed with the food. It was a bit bland, which is odd as I have been there in the past and the food was tasty. Bad night, maybe?
Food was okay, but very disappointing to spend $18 on the ravioli to get 6 smallish size pieces, not to mention we paid $1.50 extra for pink sauce for the ravioli. Usually when you spend that kind of money the dishes are much larger. The kids spaghetti was the same size as the regular ravioli entree and half the cost, too expensive for what you get. Bread was plain, no butter, no garlic not toasted just plain white bread. Chicken Marsala had a good sauce but chicken was like rubber. Highlight was honestly the Italian dressing for the very small side salad. You can go to other places and spend the exact same for much larger portions to share and way better quality. Overall okayish food, but much better options for your dollar around area.
Food was okay and the waitress was nice. The owners mother was not polite. We had an issue and she laughed. Not cool. Probably not going back anytime soon.
The worst food and service I have ever had in my 41 yrs on Earth. So we walked in and the ambience lacked everything pleasant. It was dark with a strong Lysol smell at the door. My guest and I decided go give the food a chance because the smell was strong we just assumed the place is clean, we can appreciate that in the middle of a Pandemic. It was 1 older women providing service for 2 other tables and then ours. We decided to order a Salmon/crab alfredo pasta listed on the order board for specials as you enter the restaurant. We also ordered salads for appetizers. The ranch dressing was so watery and asked the server if we could change our dressing to something different. We waited for a while and nothing came, so we reminded her and she shook her head out of frustration and stormed off. The food came or excuse me 1 of the pastas came out of the 2 we ordered. My guest was extremely disappointed. The sauce was watery and the salmon was extremely dried out. Unfortunately my guest called the server back over to return the poor dish and at this time by the way the replacement salad dressings came out. The server snatched the plate from our table and said we dont have complaints about our food so this is ridiculous. She then screamed at us and stated, Do you not understand how expensive crab meat is right now?". We answered yes we live in Howard County Maryland and we buy crabs or crab meat often. So finally she brought the Second pasta dish out and I actually wanted to taste the dish for myself because who knows I may like it. I did not want my guest distate to change my mind. And yes it was awful. She snatched the dish and stated we wasted her husband's time cooking both dishes. I asked if we could meet the chef and discuss what we thought and our distaste for the pasta dishes. She said No and proceeded to let us know she was not taking the tab completely off and we would have to pay for half to atheist cover the price of her wasted crab meat. It was a total of $28 or $14 each. The salads were not expensive although we never had the dressing to eat them and had water as our drinks. I did not argue about the price because I knew I would never visit again because we live miles away. We found it on GPS during our drive to VA Beach. I requested to meet her husband the chef again and she said No so we gracefully left. I would not buy the food to feed my dogs or a homeless man.
This the jumbo imported shrimp appetizer. Listed at $9.99 that's $2.00 a shrimp that weren't imported well maybe from a freezer
We took our 5 year old here for her birthday lunch on a Sunday, at her request. We had a very large party as she wanted her aunts and uncles to join. Our server, who I believe was the manager, was not amused by our large party or that we would need separate checks. Unfortunately, my husband and I are not able to cover the $22/plate for all of the guests. We were the only people in the restaurant and I had called over a week in advance to let them know we were coming. She asked if we would be paying in cash, which I didn’t understand what difference it would make since we would be responsible for the credit card charges. Not once were we asked if we would be paying all together or not when I made the reservation. She was so rude to us that the entire party was just astounded by her attitude. We brought a small cake so everyone could sing but she told us, several times, that if we ate the cake inside the restaurant she would have to charge us $15. I’m not entirely sure why. She just really didn’t seem to want us there and acted like we were an inconvenience. There was one other table in the entire restaurant the whole time we were there. Everyone in our party said they would never go back, which is sad for me because my kids love pasta and I really like their sangria!
I Do Not Recommend going to this restaurant!!! My husband and I went there for dinner. After waiting at least 20mins. When my dish came the sauce had a hair in it. I call the server back over explain the problem she asks if I'd like them to make it again. My husband & I said we would pay for his dish & take it to go. What infuriated me is the manager came over & said we don't have any cooks in the back with long hair, insinuating that it was mine. Handed us a $20 gift card. Months later we decided to give them another chance & order 2 greek salads to go. After getting home we see got the wrong salads & no dressing!! We have lived in this area for 21yrs. & this is a restaurant we suggest you Do Not Visit!
reservations dont matter. you will wait up to an hour.
Ordered through Doordash. The cheese ravioli with pesto sauce was disappointing. The pesto sauce was lime green liquid and tons of it. Very poorly prepared. The lasagna was fair, but was swimming in a greasy tomato sauce. Tons of sauce in both dishes. Will never order from this restaurant again or recommend it.
I would not recommend. I heard great things about it, but perhaps I ordered the wrong items. The wedding soup was definitely from a can or other premixed package - watery, overcooked noodles, tiny, sponge like "meatballs" the size of a dime. Unappetizing. For the main dish I ordered the house made ravioli. It was cooked well but scantily filled and you only got six pieces. Came basically plain, maybe a small amount of sauce of some kind but I can't remember. I left still kind of hungry. I would rather go to olive garden for the money.
I get it. Running a resteraunt is hard. This was my first and last time going here. Service: We had a young guy that obviously needed more training. He was nice, and we did tip him well, but he didn’t have answers to questions we asked, didnt bring coffee when requested, and took like 20 minutes to get our order. Atmosphere: The chairs were comfy, but the tables to close to other tables. Dimly lit. It was ok. Food: Im no chef, but I could cook better at home myself. Its a “pasta house”, so you would think the pasta is good. Its not. My pasta was rubbery, and unseasoned. The chicken tasted like it was that precut chicken you get at the grocery store, and the vegetables were definitely frozen and microwaved. My meal tasted like a tv dinner. My wife said it was the worst eggplant parm shes ever had. My kid ordered ziti but got spaghetti that looked like it had ketchup on it. The calamari was rubbery and definitely not breaded in house. The bread they give you looked like wonder bread. They give you ice cold butter that destroys the bread if you try to apply it to the bread. Dessert was ok. People told me to go to this place, not sure why. Maybe it used to be good, but now it seems they just get by on the regular crowd.
We had a reservation for 7pm on valentines. We showed up at 645 and were told they hadn't even seated the 6pm reservations yet. There were so many people waiting, I couldn't even get to the hostess station so I messaged them and, then called them. I was told we wouldn't be seated until after 8, at the earliest. I can't recommend them based on the horrible customer service and the fact they ruined my wife and my first valentines as a married couple. We ended up leaving.
I’m honestly not sure how this Restaurant is still in business . The owners wife was absolutely rude & disrespectful. The lasagna noodles & the lobster ravioli was hard . The bread we received had fur or hair of some sort . The first time I’ve been to this place it was the worst experience. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
We came into Pasta House to sit at the bar and grab a to go order. We were instantly judged for wanting to sit at the bar. For an hour, we had to wait for an order and not get offered a drink. The manager or owner was so very rude and ignored us at the bar. The restaurant was not really that busy. This is the second time we have been there and customer service is truly sub par. My family will never be visiting them again. I have never been treated so rudely by the owner of an establishment.
