Good eats. Salmon or steak is awesome. The atmosphere is relaxed and regal. Went by on 13 Feb and they are closed. New restaurant opening in there place.

Girl's night out! Beautiful atmosphere. Our server was great. The food was delicious! We ordered Chicken and waffles, Grilled Salmon, Truffle mac and cheese, and the crab cake. Everything was really good. Especially the chicken and waffles and grilled salmon. I went in expecting it not to be so great because of the reviews I've read but, we were pleasantly surprised and will definitely be going back again. Thanks to the manager Fernando, who was kind and gracious, and gave us $5 off coupons for our next visit!!

Great place. I had pretzels with the dips and that was very good. They allow you to sample beer before you buy one which is awesome. Service can be hit or miss but is usually good. The place is always very clean.

I have NO idea why the reviews are so negative. Forrest was our server, along with the bartender for lunch. Service was outstanding. Quick, attentive and laid back. Some of the best I've had in Richmond for sure. Food was great. Have no idea why the reviews are so negative. Bit to trollish honestly.

I went here for a quick bite during the day on Sunday. It was mid day so we just sat at the bar. The bartender was very nice and helpful. We liked the beer selection, and the Flights for $7! The apps were great too.

I took the time out of my day to drive 30 minutes to this location for lunch (to-go order) and when I received my bill I noticed that it was $3.58 more than what the website said. I then requested to speak with a manager and the waiter or whatever he is stated that the manager, Tammy, was busy conducting interviews. Which comes first, your customer or interviews? I believe these people are slightly confused. Update: I spoke with the Area Manager over the GM, Tammy, and he was VERY helpful and understanding. He definitely made the experience better. I have now changed my rating from 1 star to 3 stars.

The open-air bar is one of the better features of this spot. Inside is dark and feels a little more like a study or hunting lodge in the Victorian era. The food is okay; there's not a lot of variety and the main event is wine and beer (as one may have guessed from the name).

Had early dinner here before a VCU event. The food was just okay. They accommodated a large party for us of 8 people in a private area so that was special. We had reservations.

Had a group of about 8 and wound up with an entire room to ourselves which was great. Decent service but one of the entrés came out very late which was disappointing.

Good beer selection, but honestly, food and drink are way overpriced. Service seems to be hit or miss. We walked in at 10:10pm and the hostess told us she'd have another host right out to us. 15 minutes later, and we're still standing at the host station. My companion walked in to find someone to seat us, only to be told that the food section closed at 10pm, but the bar was still open. One of the bartenders was quite accommodating though, got us seated and switched one of the TVs to the soccer game we wanted to watch (every other working TV - cause 4 were off- was tuned to the same basketball game).

The service was average, as was the food. I ordered the tuna tacos with fries and their house burger. The fries were good and the tacos and burger were not bad but pretty bland. It's overpriced for really boring food. The dishes are simple, but they don't make up for it with quality ingredients or good flavor.

Every time I come to this place, I hope it's better than my last experience. It's not that it's an awful experience, but you could be so much more. They have a ton of taps, but they never have an updated list. You always try to order something and they don't have it. A person I was with tried to order 4 beers that were not on the list. If you were the only game in town, then this would work. But you're not, you need to step it up. It should be simple enough to print out a daily updated beer list.

The food was delicious but our service was just awful. We were pretty much ignored or forgotten about the entire time. Our waitress didn't write down our order down so completely forgot our app. Less apathy among the wait staff would go a long way.

They have over 100 beers on tap and every one of them is served at around 43 degrees. I mentioned to the bartender that the beer wasn't cold and he said they're all like that. To his credit, he offered to chill my glass in ice, which helped, but if you're going to bank a business on draft beer, you should try to serve it at an optimal temperature.

Late night menu feels very limited. Everything on the menu seems very overpriced. Beer selection is good. But all the drinks and food are over priced. Staff seems very kind and accommodating.

Great atmosphere and very "pretty" dishes, but I was with a group of 11 and almost half of us had problems with our food: undercooked, room temperature, or the wrong dish. We were given two servers and our glasses sat empty on the table most of the evening. My own dish (a simple burger) came out completely rare when I asked for it medium-well. The manager did discount our tabs and took my food off completely, and offered us free desserts, but overall it's not a place I'm likely to visit again.

Where to begin? Sat at the bar for a Sunday afternoon lunch. A server was too busy flashing her cleavage and flirting with male customers to take our order. Finally waited on, got our drinks and decided to order burgers. I asked for a cheeseburger with everything on the side and asked that they leave off the beer-cheese sauce. Companion ordered same. Took forever to get our food. Watched waitstaff mixing mimosas with champagne and Tropicana bottled o.j. -- although the brunch menu said "freshly squeezed." My burger arrived with no cheese and topped with one slice of bacon. I asked about the cheese. The waitress said the beer sauce was the only kind they had. I asked for mustard. She grabbed my plate and took it back to the kitchen. When she brought my plate back, the burger had beer-cheese sauce on the burger. I proceeded to scrape it off and repeated my request for mustard. My companion could tell how this was going and said nothing, just began eating. She grabbed his plate out from under him and took it to the kitchen, leaving him munching on an undercooked French fry. When his plate returned, the burger had a beautiful melted slice of some kind of white cheese on it. All very bizarre. We were never asked about drink refills or dessert. Our bill -- $42. Hard lesson learned -- go with your first instinct, which was Cookout.

I was so disappointed with the service I received at the bar of the American Tap Room. I ordered one drink and when I wanted to order dinner is was almost as if I was just ingored by the employees at the bar especially when they could see me looking at a menu. When I did have a chance to order it took 40 mins for me to get some cold high priced chicken tacos. I had to just leave because I could'nt take it and the poor service really surprised me. I rarely ever have issues like this when I am out it just blew my mind.

American Tap Room set a new low bar for me in restaurant experiences. I was there for a birthday dinner for a friend; there were 16 of us in total. While there the restaurant was more than half empty. My individual experience: First I ordered an appetizer, 30 minutes later a friend’s appetizer comes out, but not mine. 30 minutes after that, they figure out my appetizer was delivered to another table. I didn’t receive the second order of the appetizer either. My entree, Pan Seared Jumbo Sea Scallops, arrived room temperature. I tasted a bite of the “bacon infused creamed corn”, which tasted like generic canned creamed corn, sans bacon. And my “pesto potatoes” (yes that word is plural) was a single fingerling potato cut into 6 pieces. I sent the plate back, and refused any additional food. On the bright side, the Chic-fil-a 4 doors down that managed to provide me with a hot, tasty, and freshly made sandwich in about 3 minutes; to go, so that I could return to my friends at American Tap House, where I probably ended up with the best meal that the restaurant has had physically located inside it’s premises. The other appetizer was a “piled high” “Onion Ring Stack” It wasn’t even piled low. There wasn’t a pile. It was 8 onion rings. They actually fit on the plate in a single layer. In addition, because 2 of us had ordered appetizers, the servers would not take our entree order until the appetizers came out despite multiple requests to place orders for meals. Meanwhile, our drinks weren’t refilled. Everything else: -Two friends have to order a second choice from the menu after their first choice is unavailable. One of them has to then order a third choice when his second choice also turns out to not exist, 20 minutes after we placed dinner orders. So at least 3 of their menu items don’t exist. -Despite having 2 waitresses assigned to us, and having additional staff bring out the meals, only 2 meals are delivered at a time. I believe it took over 10 minutes for them to deliver a meal to each person, not counting the dishes sent back and redelivered. -One friend’s entree is wrong, sends it back, and receives a cold entree as a replacement. She sends this back as well, and goes without dinner. -Another receives cold chicken tenders, sends them back, and manages to receive an edible meal on the second try. -A third receives a cold meal, and decides to just put up with it. -3 friends order Jambalaya, one mild, one spicy, one gluten free. The first is brought out, but the waitress doesn’t know which one it is. She returns to the kitchen to find out it is the gluten free plate. You would think she’d learn a lesson, but the same thing happens with the spicy Jambalaya. At least all 3 meals are hot. -The last person to receive her meal, a good 2-3 minutes after all other entrees were received, had ordered a medium-well burger, received a rare burger, sent it back, received a rarer burger, followed by a period of no service, so she eats the fries. That brings us to a total of 3 people who didn’t actually receive a dinner here. During all of this, it’s been an hour since sodas were refilled, and a half hour since beers were reordered. The beers had apparently sat at the bar for that half hour, and were warm upon arrival. Sent back of course, then those friends wait another half hour for cold beers.

The place was nice but the server we had wasn't very friendly. The food was no better than fast food at triple the price ,the mashed potoates were instint spuds. At those prices I was shocked. Won't be going there again.

Worst bar experience I've had in RVA. Waited ten+ minutes between drinks with the bar less than half full and three bartenders. Manager seemed indifferent.

Use to be gluten friendly. They dropped it all and raised the prices. Very disappointed. But the server was really nice.

Says online and on the door they open at 10am but they open at 11am and it says online and on the door they serve brunch wich is also false.

It was not good. My lady and I came here last June and it was awesome. The Guy at the bar who served us looked like Zack Galifianakis and he was great! Drinks on time and friendly and always checked up on us. Now we came back today, ( I love my Spanish and Black people ) but this bartender from where ever in the motherland was slow as hell. She whispered real low, she forgot our sauces, we had other drinks that tasted like virgins. Chicken and waffles was blah, only one syrup for a plate size waffle. No dipping sauce or anything for the fried chicken. Small selection of food to pick out of menu.The beer was the only good thing I had. You guys need to tighten up. Get your staff right.

This is third time I have been in the bar area and had horrible service. The first time the bartenders were too busy talking to each other to help the guests at the bar. The second time they were short and rude. Tonight we walked into the bar area. ..sat and were not spoken to for several minutes. There were maybe 5 people at the bar. ...slow for a Friday night. ..after several minutes we left . The hostess didn't even recognize us while we stood in the doorway deciding where we would go next. Lost 3 people who went somewhere else and spend over $100. I remember when they 1st opened friendly staff and great happy hour 7 days a week. ..now rude and inattentive staff. Lots of choices in Richmond. ..ya better step it up.

This was my first time visiting. In the bar area there was a mom with her kids running around. The waitress started nice but mixed up our order and forgot some items. The MANAGER brought some of our food out and didn't know which order was the specialty (one wings was requested to be fried hard). The calamari came out Luke warm sent it back and it came out warm again!! The wings were good but they were warm too. The fries we ordered at the beginning came out hit just as we were leaving. The silverware napkins had blonde hair in them Smdh. Our server never refilled our drinks. Horrible service, food was great but watm

6/14 arrived 650pm seated right away but took 10 minutes for waitress to come over. Ordered drinks 3 different times and each time it took way to long for 3 beers to be delivered. I thought the bar a busy but when walkthg through it was nearly empty. Food was nothing special and it was cold we could not complain when never came by .Will not go back.

Absolutely disappointing experiance, my husband and I had to sit for about 45min waiting for one of the waiters to notice and offer us a service and when no body did my husband had to get up and look for a manager, the manager said she was going to send a waiter to our table but after waiting for another 15min with no waiter and feeling ignored we decided to leave. On our way out, the receptions at the door wished us good night. I felt they were mocking us since they knew (saw) we were leaving with out getting any service. we will never go back to this place again.
