The staff were welcoming and helpful. All three people we spoke with recommend the crab cakes. We decided to split one to taste it, but were ultimately entranced by the duck. Cooked to perfection and enjoyed every bite. The bartender tempted us with the pecan pie, which we couldn’t resist. It was incredible. Delightful experience.

AMAZING FOOD!!!! Mocktail options for those who don’t drink. Clean and welcoming. I wish there was some art to look at but the food was the star of the evening!

This is truly a 5* Michelin style restaurant. We dined here on a weeknight, and the place was busy. A southern cuisine restaurant also offering a great selection of cocktails/wines. Our only gripe, the booths are solid wood seating, after a while you are wishing for a cushion. (hint, hint) I selected a mocktail, the Pineapple Splash, refreshing. They start the meal service with a homemade Corn Muffin, Yummy. My starter, She Crab Soup, was delicious, well balanced flavors and well prepared. For main course I selected the Chesapeake Bay Crab Cakes, definitely freshly prepared and enough to please your palate. We did not ordered dessert but they offer a variety to appease your taste. Cost per person about 75$. I will patronize this establishment again.

The food at Julep’s is DELICIOUS!! 🤤🤤 We were in town for business and had to do takeout; even after traveling 20 min or so, everything was hot and delicious, seasoned and cooked to perfection! Can only imagine how great it is when you dine in. The hostess who took our order was also super friendly and informative, and helped us with some selections. We’ll definitely be back again next time we’re in Richmond. Give Julep’s a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Food was incredible and our server, Tony, was the BEST! His descriptions of our meal was top notch and really sold us on everything. Love love love this place, will come again

I had such a wonderful experience from start to finish setting up for my mother's surprise birthday party for 50 guests. The manager was exceptional with his communication and assisting with organizing the menu and staff. All the staff were very friendly and made this experience memorable. My family thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The food was so delicious! The cornbread, ham sandwiches, beef tenderloin, and bacon wrapped scallops were all a hit! They did not take any shortcuts on food preparations. Everything was cooked to perfection and very flavorful! I was impressed, especially for having such a large party. I can't wait to return again! Thank you!!!

The deviled eggs were the best I’ve ever had. Nothing compares to them. Also had the shrimp and grits, which was full of flavor and not too hot. Boyfriend had the fillet, which was cooked perfectly. Not pictured is the table-side bananas foster, which was heavenly and came with two cookies! I can’t wait to come back. We were only in Richmond for one night and are so happy we stopped at Julep’s. Added perk: the restaurant is within walking distance of the Moxy Hotel, which is where we stayed.

Food was very good, but the service outstanding, Adam our server for the evening was knowledgeable, personable and attentive. We were the only one there with a kid and he made our son feel right at home, and us comfortable having brought him along for date night. We will be back soon. Have to bring Waylon back for another banana fosters class.

The food and service was on point. The both we sat in was hard on the buttocks. My salad was filling yet it caught me off guard with the salt. I have never experienced taking a bite of salad and thinking it was salty. The more I ate, I can see how they were attempting to play off the sweetness of the craisins. The fish special was delightful. The cornbread so good I asked for a second. I didn't personally try the dessert but they received high marks from my dinner companions.

Came out before going to a show at the Altria. We ate at the bar as we did not make a reservation in advance. Even with sitting at the bar the atmosphere was nice as the bartenders had great tools for making the drinks. My sister had a glass of wine and I chose a non-alcoholic cocktail, prickly pear. I picked the steak with potatoes and my sister picked the shrimp and grits. Both were cooked perfectly and had a mix of great flavors. We finished with the bananas foster (for 2). I did not read on the menu that it was table side so it was a big surprise to have them cook it at the bar. The flavors were great and everything was cooked to perfection. Would go back. It was a higher priced meal so keep that in mind if you’re on a budget. Was nice to go for a night out.

Just left from dining at Juleps this evening. Everything was amazing from the moment we walked into the door to the moment we left. We were a little late for our reservation due to parking issues but it was no problem at all. We were seated immediately at a cute little table right at the front window. Our server was Dana who was PHENOMENAL!! She was very friendly & knowledgable. Her timing for everything was absolutely perfect!! Our food & drinks from the bar were also just incredible. We can’t wait to visit again.

My family and friends surprised me for my birthday. My first visit but not my last. First the atmosphere was classy but relaxed. The staff was very friendly. Started at the bar where the bartender made an amazing “ROSIES”. I had two! Our server was Dana, she made us feel like we were the only people in the restaurant. The food… OMG! The presentation and seasoning of the food was excellent. I had the crab cakes with real lump crabmeat! Thanks to the staff for a fantastic birthday!

Such a good place to come for dinner for a special occasion! We had the crab cakes and New York strip and fried oysters as an app. Every was perfect and portions were fair. Dustin our waiter was amazing! Only thing was my drink was a bit weak and was mostly ice so I stuck with wine the rest of the night but other than that, I have 0 complaints.

M
Markia Anderson

We came here for my Mom’s birthday and we were so pleased! We arrived a little early to our reservation so we sat at the bar and had artisanal drinks. I tried both the Jack Rabbit Slim and the Snakehole. Both fantastic! Once our table was ready, Dana promptly sat us and provided attentive, kind, and efficient service. The deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes were a hit at our table. And once those entrees came out, the entire table was silent, with the occasional “mmmm” and happy dance breaking the frenzy. Absolutely splendid dinning experience and will be returning!

My husband and I celebrated our ten yr wedding anniversary dinner here and our entire experience was 10/10! We made reservations and were taken care of very well by Adam! He was on top of everything! I cannot wait to enjoy another meal here asap!

No idea how I’ve missed this gem. The absolute best food you will find in Richmond. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. Our new favorite. Cocktails were superb. The reputation of their mint julep is well deserved. Not a bad cocktail on their menu. Jack of all trades and the passion fruit were our favorites. The fried green tomatoes were amazing. On par to what you’d find at Magnolias in Charleston, which are the best in the south. Deviled eggs were good, but my opinion, nothing special. I’ve hade shrimp and grits all over the South, and none could compare to Juleps. One of the best meals I’ve had in my life. If I’m being picky, they should double the grits portion, there was plenty of shrimp and sauce, but I would have liked more grits. (That’s being picky) The pork chop was phenomenal as well. Some of the best collards in the city, combined with some potato’s and apples which were a great addition. Please some how save room for the bananas foster. Great dessert and great experience. I will recommend this place for a long time. Thank you Juleps for making our anniversary a special one.

If you are looking for the perfect rehearsal dinner spot, stop looking right now, and book Julep’s New Southern Cuisine! We knew we wanted to host our rehearsal dinner in a place where we could reserve a large space not only for dinner but also for a Wedding Weekend Welcome Party. When we reached out to Julep's to inquire about booking our event, Amy was extremely prompt and excited to host us! Amy and Ty were awesome to work with throughout the whole planning process - coordinating the dinner selections, the bar selections, hors d'oeuvres, and and a time for us to set up decor before our event! Our event was honestly flawless. The food was incredible (if you’ve ever eaten dinner here - you know); our guests raved about each and every course. Throughout our event, the staff were attentive and polite to all of our guests; not a glass was empty the entire night! We cannot thank Amy, Ty, and Julep’s for their hospitality and for hosting our Rehearsal Dinner and Wedding Weekend Welcome Party!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ WOW! Julep’s is absolutely incredible! This was my first time here, and I’m already planning my next visit. The food and drinks are next level—everything is homemade, and you can truly taste the love and quality in every bite. Mel and Josie were beyond wonderful—so kind, helpful, and attentive. The service, the atmosphere, the flavors—everything was PERFECT. I’ll be recommending Julep’s to everyone I know. It completely blows every other spot in the area out of the water. If you haven’t been yet, RUN, don’t walk! Let’s support this amazing place—it deserves all the love!

Tasty Southern eats in a classy environment. Our waiter, Craig, was attentive and prepared a delectable tableside bananas foster flambé. Definitely left feeling full and satisfied, after enjoying the country ham ravioli, champagne julep, shrimp and grits, and dessert. Of all the dishes I enjoyed, the shrimp and grits ranked as the best; it was a large portion, well cooked, in a delicious sort of Cajun gravy. I would order it again! Definitely recommend reservations for a Saturday dinner, as the restaurant was full. Plenty of street parking on side streets nearby.

Embarking on a culinary journey at American Southern Cousin was an absolute delight. From the moment we stepped in, the service was top-notch, reflecting genuine Southern hospitality. The wine selection was impressive, offering the perfect complement to our meal. As for the food, the venison and duck dishes exceeded all expectations, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. American Southern Cousin has truly set a new standard for Southern cuisine, and I can't wait to return for another unforgettable dining experience.

We came for a special night out and loved it! The food was delicious and creative with enough of a comforting southern touch to let you know you’re still in Richmond. We had excellent service and can’t wait to visit again.

Cute little place, nice quiet atmosphere. Staff are friendly, but don't wear masks, if that matters to you. We had filet mignon and the jumbo crab cake, and both were very good. The Brussels sprouts were undercooked, but that was the only complaint. The flourless chocolate torte was delicious. On the pricey side, but worth it for a nice night out.

D

Had the Fried oysters, She crab soup and the Pork Chops. The food was delicious and the service was great! 5 stars all around . Will definitely go back when in town.

One of my favorite places in the world. Their quality is consistent. I came first time March 2019 right before COVID at it was just as amazing when I came back this time. The service is amazing as well.

Just wanted to express my appreciation! Eight members of my family dined at Julep's in May to celebrate my daughter's graduation from VCU Arts. Four of us were quite elderly, including my dad who is in a power chair. We let the restaurant know ahead of time when we made the reservation but I was still nervous. No need-- the staff were so warm and welcoming and had a table prepared right at the front of the restaurant that served us well. The food was excellent. We had a really lovely time!

What a fabulous meal at Julep's last night! I was treated to a birthday dinner by a friend and we chose to visit during Restaurant Week. From the moment we set foot in the door, everything was perfect. We sat at a window table that was lovely, had perfect service from all staff, and enjoyed the most wonderful dinner! From wine to dessert, the meal was served with flawless timing, beautiful plating, and overall exception presentation. C'était si bon!

We dined at Julep's on a Saturday evening and Renee was our Server. This was one of the best dinner experiences in a very long time. The atmosphere was very nice and everything was exquisite. The Fried Green Tomatoes Appetizer was amazing. For dinner we had the Petite Filet and the Pork Chap entree. Both were excellent. All of the food was amazing and the presentation really stood out. We each had a glass off of the Cabernet on the menu which was superb. We both commented after getting the bill how reasonable the pricing was for such an outstanding experience. Renee took very very good care of us and we will definitely be back. This is an excellent restaurant for a nice dinner and the price makes the place a definite regular stop. Thank you!

Everything about this restaurant left us glowing with satisfaction. We dropped in to take a look at the menu and our (future) server Tony introduced himself and describe a few of his menu favorites while we enjoyed a drink at the bar. One thing led to another and pretty soon were were outside on their patio with Tony serving us an awesome dinner.

We had the last reservation of the night and the service and food was perfection. Please make the little starter on your menu such a delicious bite.

The crab cakes were exceptional and the shrimp and grits was great too. Caesar salad was a chore to chop up but worth the effort. The lemon basil ice cream dessert was amazing and the pineapple bees knees martinis were tartly fantastic. Our waiter Tony was attentive and his recommendations were on point. Next time we're in Richmond, we will definitely return to Julep's.

We visited here on our pop up bar crawl. Juleps has been heavily marketed on socials as a holiday pop up. While the atmosphere is great and the decorations are really pretty and classy, they are not pop up level. It still gives plenty of holiday vibes and we enjoyed our visit. I had the Nieve Amarillo holiday cocktail. I’d give it a 6.5 out of 10. It was good and had all the right components but balance was off a bit. Might need a little more fig to tame the mezcal. It was still a solid beverage. My friend had the Rudolph ain’t no mule which was supposed to be a salted caramel mule. It was good but tasted like a regular mule to me…there was some caramel on the rim so maybe that was the intent. Not sure. Again, right components but maybe not mixed quite so. We also had she crab soup which was AMAZING..just a bit cool. Would have been a 10/10 if served warm. Our server was fantastic….very informative and personable. I’d love to come back here for a full meal sometime.

Pretty solid restaurant. The pork belly was a bit tiny and comical on such a large plate. Fried tomatoes were good. Both mains were cooked really well. The red snapper was large. Pork chop was yum. Pecan pie was just okay. Overall a really good meal. Around $140 for two people.

More like 4.5 if it was an option. Great date night, or mid week dinner! Hubby said shrimp was best he ever had. I ordered the scallops with mushrooms that I swore it was braised meat. My wine selection was so so. Service was good. Jackie was attentive to the right degree for us. It was a nice dinner on a very unplanned stop in the area.

R

Quite good neuvo American place. Our waitress was really amazing and tended to us extremely well. The dishes were quite good but the cauliflower Mac and cheese was just cauliflower in a watery cheese sauce. The dessert was definitely the highlight of the whole meal.

My sista-friend and I had reservations there at 5:30pm before the Brian Culbertson show at the National Theatre last night. (Side note: He was awesome as usual!!!🔥) So, we researched restaurants ahead of time as we were traveling in from Virginia Beach/Chesapeake. Our desk clerk at Marriott also recommended Julep's. Thank God the Hotel shuttle dropped us off because parking near the restaurant is scarce, but we could have walked there from the Marriott. A huge shoutout and thank you to our amazing waiter Kareem for his outstanding customer service ( friendly, efficient and professional) as well as his spot-on menu recommendations and ensuring we were out the door on time for our Brian Culbertson show!!!❤️ I had the Beef Short Ribs, and no knife needed! My sister got the NY Strip, med and cooked to perfection (juicy and pink). We loved our wines, white zif, and pinot noir. I would have given a five, but as a Chef myself, I feel the soup should have had more crabmeat, or it should have been carefully folded in to maintain the lumps and make them more visible. They also could have garnish with some crab as well, but the soup flavor was delicious. Our fried green tomatoes were actually fried too hard, but the pimiento cheese served with it was a nice surprise as I am not fond of pimiento cheese. The decor and ambiance were very inviting. It was moderately crowded with minimal noise, so overall, it was a great experience, and thanks to Kareem, we will definitely return!!

I went here on a Thursday night. The bar attracts many people for drinks and the vibe who may not want dinner. There is a significant cocktail and alcohol selection that is very well priced. Despite the white table cloths and high prices, the restaurant feels welcoming enough to walk into off the street. Service is very nice. The cornbread and butter was very good, a highlight in my notes. I had the shrimp and grits the shrimp were nice and large and the grits had a delicious nubby quality with butter. The andouille sausage was nicely cut. I enjoyed the tomato based sauce that balanced the grits. I found the sauce a little too smoky bordering on liquid smoke flavor that I tried to mask with grits. Others may love the high smoke flavor.

The service was top notch--everyone worked seamlessly to ensure glasses were filled, plates cleared, etc. The food was decent; the flavors were traditional but everything was done well! The fried spinach was the best part of the country ham ravioli appetizer. The passion fruit Pisco Sour was quite sweet but delicious!

L
Linda Inki

We came here for dinner on Saturday night. The place has great ambience. We had the pork chop and petite filet mignon for dinner. The pork chop came with sliced apple, potato and some kind of spinach. We didn’t really care much of the spinach. The pork chop itself was delicious. The filet mignon came with potato and Brussels sprouts and they all were delicious. We had banana foster for dessert, came with shortbread cookies and vanilla ice cream. It was delicious but nothing special. The drink menu was extensive and I enjoyed my drink. Parking can be tricky since you have to park on the street, but after 6 pm street parking is free. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Julep’s.

Made reservations to celebrate my dad's Birthday! It was our first time there, and everything was fantastic! The reviews on their bar were spot on, the drinks were excellent!! The food was delicious, the desserts to die for, and out waiter was nice. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because my mom ordered the shrimp and grits entree, and she was only able to eat the grits because the shrimp were extremely spicy!! I should have assumed being a true Southern place that entree would be spicy, but maybe it would be an idea to indicate it on the menu for guest to know before hand. Mom's mouth was entirely blistered the next day, and remained that way the entire week, but she did say that minus the spiciness her dish was very good! Lol

S
Sarah French

I had a marvellous time ..a dinner for one at the bar. .one may dine outside or little tables or in the rear..had an entire fish! a bronzino.head and tail. with lovely staff..

J
Jessica Stender

The service provided by Adam was exceptional. He read the menu like a poet. However, his words didn’t live up to the outcome - both the PorkChop and both sides of the Duck Duo were dry. Their cornbread - served to every table, tasted adjacent to Jiffy corn muffin mix. There was no real flavor other than cheese and balsamic in the ham ravioli appetizer. As far as Richmond institutions go, I’d rate this one as skippable.

M
Marci Fradkin

First, I have to say it’s restaurant week and that is not always the best week to try a new restaurant. Overall, I liked my dishes and I picked the restaurant because I think they had the most interesting menu during restaurant week. We did walk away a little bit hungry And that might be once again because it was restaurant week and the portions were maybe a little smaller, my partner was underwhelmed by his meal and particularly found the fish fairy salty and found the bread pudding on the smaller side. I thought it was odd that it was served with ice cream. I really enjoyed my drink, and I think the ambience was nice. Our server was very attentive overall.

K
Keith Chambliss

We went for a late Valentine dinner, I'm not saying the food was bad by no means but for my taste buds and my wife's it was way way way to salty. Only thing that wasn't saturated with salt was the pan seared scallops appetizer. We also order the deviled eggs salty, my wife had the crab cake which was filled with lump meat at every bite, but that fried grit cake was just a block of salt. I myself had the 40day dry aged steak, now I'm not the biggest steak eater but I wanted to try dry aged, my steak was cooked too a perfect medium like I requested but those fingerling potatoes way to salty. Now as far as the dry aged steak, I let my wife try it since she loves steak and she said she could taste the difference so I gotta go with her judgment. Maybe it was an off night, maybe it was just our food who knows, but definitely will say check this place out for yourself.

R
Rebecca McDaniel

I can give this place 3 stars. First of all the service and atmosphere was impeccable! We came for a private rehearsal dinner and enjoyed the cocktail hour and 3 course meal. The only thing I do not prefer would be the parking and location. I did get a parking ticket and would have preferred better parking available

S
Su R

Cute little upscale restaurant. The food was great and you could tell they use high quality ingredients. I will say I think it’s a total bummer that you can’t swap your entree side for another one. The only option is to order the side a la carte. If you’re going to charge me $35+ for an entree alone, I would hope that I’d have the ability to pick a side of my liking. The crab cake was good, but I wished for more of the remoulade. Only got a tiny amount on my plate. The grit cake had really good flavor, but a little too salty for me. I don’t know if I’d return for the dinner, but would definitely come to the bar and have cocktails.

Last visited in December. Then, everything was wonderful. I would give 5 stars to that visit. Last night was uneven. If not for some flawless positive elements, this review would be lower. The good: cocktails were perfection. The amuse-bouche of gougères was delightful. Crab soup, fried oysters, and fried green tomatoes were lovely. The wine list was very good, and we found something new to enjoy. Sauces were well done. The sorbet was tasty as always, and the bananas foster, while not the best we've had, was solid. (The weakness was the execution of the butter cookie/shortbread. Not bad, but oddly rustic in form. The shaping and thickness at the center made for awkward eating. Flavor and texture were good.) The scallop entrée was faultless. Service was impeccable. Now, the rest. You cannot succeed when the wheels fall off the entrées. We ordered flat iron steaks, and filet mignon. Two steaks were cooked more or less as ordered, one flat iron was all over the place, rare to medium on the same piece. Rare was ordered. A bit more sauce or seasoning was needed to help the flat irons, which were not particularly flavorful. They were ok. TBF beef supply quality has been challenging lately, but that should be evaluated and adjustments made. The rosti, oh dear. There is well browned; this was not it. This rosti was cooked so far past browned that the bottom of one was black, and they all had the bitterness of burned. I don't recommend ordering anything with the rosti as a side. Side note: we adore rosti, and it was the new bit we were most excited to try. Our coffees arrived lukewarm. This was corrected promptly after alerting or server, but shouldn't have happened. I think this restaurant has dropped to, great for drinks or happy hour nibbles. Going elsewhere for dinner for now. Will probably give one more try in a few months, hoping for a happy return to previous quality. We've enjoyed eating here often in the past.

First time to Julep's. Great service and ambiance! Food had no seasoning though. Everything was cooked perfectly, but for high end dining, I shouldn't have to use the salt shaker! I had the cast iron chop and she had the signature plate of shrimp and grits. Both were terribly bland. Many a southerner would take offense to the lack of flavor for sure!

I
Ihudiya Finda Williams

I came to Julep for my anniversary. It sucked. The appetizer was good and the dessert was good, but my shrimp and grits entree was disgusting. It was so bad that I spoke to the manager. Instead of working to make our experience better we got into a conversation about how it’s suppose to be New Orleans inspired and it’s not a Jambalaya. I agreed and told him the tomato sauce tasted like tomato paste. No extra dessert, no candle, no discount for the bad entree. The waiter at the end told us happy anniversary. It was anticlimactic…not special. I won’t be back. I don’t recommend Julep.

The food and service is so amazing, but why did I see a ghost walking around the place. It kept whispering to me talking about how he was gonna take me away. I don't know if they are playing a prank, or some TV show, but I'm never going there again. Shrimp and Grits 10/10 though.
