Pros: It was cute and quirky and tasty and even had a kids spot upstairs but Con.... MAN it was crowded. My date kept getting shoved and readjusted as other customers tried to pass to their tables. Probably better on warm days because then people would wanna eat outside. I also didn't love how the server called out the item of food order instead of the name of the person who ordered---they called out "SPECIAL" which was a slice of pizza...but it didn't come out at the same time as the salad is so we were thinking someone else had ordered a single slice of pizza... It was just a little bit confusing and frustrating for both the server and for us. Big thin slice of pizza was good for $4. Greek Salad was nice for $10. Candy cap mushroom ice cream was fun. I'd go back, but id ask for the food to come out at the same time and wait for a better table. 😀
Very fast and extremely friendly service, clean place and helpful staff, plus a beautiful location! The classic pepperoni is an old favorite that I used to get when I was a kid, and it still lives up to the standard! There’s something for everyone, be it falafel, ice cream, beer, or just good old pizza! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Awesome pizza place, by the slice or by the pie! It's quite small, so it may be difficult to get a table. They also have ice cream made by Cowlick's, very good stuff. As you eat your pizza, read the blackboard that lists all the silly questions customers have asked. You'll laugh!
I stopped in for an ice cream. I was tempted by the mushroom ice cream, but I was in a chocolate mood and had the black forest. Not bad. I liked how you could get just a mini scoop, which was the perfect amount. Friendly staff. The town also has lots of trash cans, for easy disposal of empty cups.
They had a limited menu at the time, however I'm super grateful for them bring open.9n the 4th of July. Great little pizza and ice cream spot. Highly recommend.
The wait staff was very attentive. Service was fast and delicious.
Mini say this is the best ice cream in Mendocino. I ordered a pizza while I was here and it absolutely hit the spot it’s good but it is a little bit expensive $19 for a small pizza is definitely at the top of the price scale they do have several other options the seating is a little underwhelming the locals really liked this place from what I can tell customer service was not the best. It seemed like they just wanted me to make a decision and get on with life some of the best pizza in the area for sure they do have mushroom ice cream which I didn’t try but I found very unique.
Great pizza but has other options. Good choices for the Vegan and Vegetarian customers. Cowlicks ice cream is a not to be missed experience. They always have your favorites plus some you have never tasted but you should.
Highly recommend for their icecream. We both had the Smore and it was delicious. We had pizza by the slice I'm not sure that it can be fairly judged. It was a huge slice of cheese pizza which was very greasy. The crust was good and the sauce was tasty. When we go back for more icecream next time we will try a whole small pizza with toppings 🙂.
Great table with toys for my little sisters, the pizza was oozy and delicious! The bitter winds were completely forgotten as soon as my family and I bit down into those pizza slices. And who can resist Cowlicks ice cream??? 🤤
We happened upon Frankie's while staying the night in Mendocino. We got into town right before closing (and it was basically the only thing open still) and the staff didn't bat an eye when we ordered 30 minutes before closing. They were so kind and accommodating for us after a weary day of traveling and the pizza was superb!!!!!
Frankie's is nearly tied for best pizza place around, but for me comes out slightly ahead because of better sauce. It's a delightful family friendly environment with phenomenal pizza and wonderful ice cream if you've left any room. I cannot walk by without having beer and a slice...or an entire pie to myself.
So yummy the pizza was out quickly and absolulty up to par. My son who doesn’t eat salad, went to town on the cesear salad! Also I got a scoop each for my babies and I have to admit it was the best Icecream we’ve had in a while. Definitely recommend
Fresh, Fresh, Organics! We got a large pizza half veggie and half Hawaiian so delicious. I also added a side salad with the maple balsamic and is was on hit. We had to try a scoup of ice cream on the way out. The girl helping us was friendly
We found Frankie's by complete accident but are happy we did! They have the best pizza with a thin cracker crust. We also got the falafel pita which was tasty and well done with diced tomato and cucumber salad and a house-made habanero sauce. In addition to the food, the staff was friendly and attentive. Couldn't have asked for a better lunch expedience...
I've been coming here since I was a kid. I of course love the mushroom ice cream but don't forget about their pizza which is always so delicious and satisfying. their food is always fresh. It's a must stop place when I come to Mendocino.
Best ice-cream I've ever had and I don't enjoy icecream that much! 😝 The mushroom cap flavour is definitely something out of this world, my new favourite flavour! The staff was also really friendly!
Stopped by for some last minute dinner and ice cream while visiting the area. We loved it. Ordered a Whiskey Shoals #8 pizza and a Greek salad. Both were wonderful. The crust is thin, but can stand up to its toppings without being too crunchy, just perfectly crisp. The salad was fresh and the dressing was flavorful. Then we couldn't leave without grabbing some ice cream so we tried the kulfi and the candy cap mushroom flavors they were both incredible. I get the feeling that you can't really go wrong with anything they offer.
On our visit to Mendocino, we ordered pizza, salad, and ice cream. It was super yummy, and the staff was so friendly. Will definitely visit again!
I am somewhat of a pizza aficionado, and their Hare Creek Combo is perhaps the best pizza my wife and I have had in a long time. It was worth the short wait and fighting through to hordes ordering their delicious ice cream. Their crust is superb, they use just enough cheese, and their sausage is JUST the right amount of spicy. Now we are seriously about getting a "road pizza" for the drive home....
We stopped in to Frankie's for an early dinner - ordered their cheese pizza and Ceasars salad. The pizza was SO good - sauce was well seasoned and just the right amount, crust had good flavor and chew, and cheese was just the right amount. The salad was nice as well with homemade dressing. Price was on par with any other local pizza place - small pizza was $14, salad was $13 but easily fed 2. We will absolutely be back next time we are in town!
AJ Property Clearing and Tree Service here! We at there everyday almost during a 5-day tree project! Great Pizza and nice friendly staff!
After we accidentally hiked 8 miles, we went straight to Frankie's for beer, pizza and ice cream, we deserved it. Everything was so delicious! The crust on the pizza was perfect. It was crispy and holds up flat and the ingredients are fresh. I recommend this place 👌
Yummy pizza! Crisp crust. Yummy falafel and chili too. They also serve Cowlick's ice cream, soo yummy! Reasonably priced food. A must if you're in Mendocino.
Loved the ice cream. Fast and friendly service.
Great food. Gluten free options! we had a pizza, salad and for dessert their famous "mushroom icecream" tasted like maple. Super good!
I ordered a Jug Handle pizza while staying at The Mendocino Hotel. I was shocked it cost so much. But then I ate it. Simply the best pizza I've ever had in my life. Now I always get one when I visit the area. Enjoy!
Really chill and surprisingly good food. Good for vegan options and good outdoor space. Recommend!
All the food was fresh and relatively priced. The space was great and the community was even better! Even just their cheese pizza was beautiful. Their ice cream was also bomb. I recommend the coffee ice cream :)
Every ice cream flavor I tried was AMAZING! We got a taste of 5 others but got a double scoop of coffee and black forest. I can't tell you anything about the pizza or falafel.
We had a great experience and the pizza was delicious. We were visiting from Tahoe and are originally from the Boston area years ago. The pizza immediately felt nostalgic to us and then we found out the owner was originally from New York. She said the pizza dough was made fresh daily. What a treat and surprise to find really great pizza in a small California town. the ice cream was yummy too. Make sure to try the homemade ranch dressing with your pizza! :)
I had the Greek salad and my brother had The Mediterranean Wrap, both were delicious. The service was great, and the prices were very reasonable. A great place.
Only went for the ice cream but it was fantastic! Hands down some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. Highly recommend the raspberry ripple.
I tried the mushroom ice cream. fire. tasted kinda caramelly but I ended up going with the cherry chocolate one. guy at the front recommended it and it didn’t disappoint. would come back 11/10 experience. +pizza smelled good.
After a full day of hiking on trails and exploring the town, we decided to just have an in formal meal of pizza. We were pleasantly surprised by Frankie's. We ordered the Hare Creek Combo and were presented with a thin crust pizza loaded with cheese, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms roasted onions and olives, all in proportion to allow savoring of each ingredient. There was a spicy kick to the pie that was noticeable without overwhelming. My only regret was that I could not finish the pizza, but the staff readily offered box or foil for the leftovers. I had a couple of the local Scrimshaw Pilsner which was refreshing and complimented the meal. If you want a bit of fun for dessert, try the mushroom ice cream. I know it sounds dubious, but it had a nutty flavor that was quite pleasant.
I just got ice cream. It was superb! Generous portions and delicious. I'll be back
This place had some amazing ice cream and some pretty great beers, too. Though they were not from the tap, they still got the job done, if you know what I mean! I am an alcoholic. Anyway, we also got a pizza which was pretty stellar, and I love my pizzas! Mendocino is just such a fantastic place, and if you're ever in the area, then I suggest highly that you check this place out. I mean, if you don't, did you ever even really go to Mendo? I don't think so, so get it together, man!! Thank you. Love you.
I did not expect the pizza to be so good - absolutely delicious! They had vegan cheese (Daya) which you could add to any pizza - we got the smuggler’s with added black olives. I think all the sauces they use to make the pizzas were vegan as well so there is lots to choose from and you can also build your own. Will definitely be back
Best Pizza on the coast near Mendosino/Bragg! BUT! And I hate to tell you the secret....get the slices and get em early! Thank me later
In late to hotel, pizza sounded good. Recommended by hotel staff. It didn’t disappoint. Pizza excellent pepperoni and sausage , salad delicious. Only draw back was price. When you are hungry, you’re hungry. Will again soon.
We went here in the off season and just after it opened. We got a pepperoni pizza. It was so good. Perfect ratio of pepperoni. The crust was cooked perfectly. prices were average for the area. The staff was suprr nice.
We had the big salad and a #9 pizza. The sausage was tasty and the olives and onions generous. The pizza had a nice thin crust with a bit of crunch. The small pizza and salad were perfect to share for dinner. They even made a decent Mocha and had a chai tea option for my wife.
Cozy place for pizza and ice cream. Nice selection of beer, wine, soda. They serve cowlick ice cream(from Fort Bragg) that’s so good! Nice variety of Pizza that had a great crust and great flavor. It’s a family run place. Would definitely go again if back in Mendocino.
Frankie's is a must stop in the Mendo area! Locally owned, good service, and the most amazing pizza. Got half whisky shoals and half virgin creek. So good!!
We stopped in for some pizza by the slice…it’s was huge and tasty. Nice thin crispy crust
The candy cap ice cream is always a favorite! We got the Blues pizza as well and loved it! Definitely will be back to explore more of the menu.
We shared a large pizza between the two of us, and it really hit the spot! We were both starving after a day of diving, and walked out satisfied without breaking the bank. Would recommend!

Their pizza crust is so good. Thin, tasty and perfect proportion with toppings. Shared the 16" Navarro with 5 people and it was EXCELLENT! I noticed that they had a gluten-free options that seemed pretty encompassing. Had a "Caffeinator" which is a choice of their wonderful icrecream, blended with espresso. It was creamy and delicious. I chose their chocolate ice cream. Be aware that Mendocino is a lovely small town, and that service is not the fast-paced hurrying that you often get in larger cities. So be patient and kind. This is a sweet town and Frankie's is a fun place to sit and eat
We didn't try the food although the icecream looked delicious. We grabbed our drinks and sat down. We were pleasantly surprised by the live music. I think an older gentleman was giving a lesson but he was playing and singing also. We had extra drinks just to stay and listen.
Great pizza and salads. Nice staff. A bit pricey, but good stuff.

Really impressive options to be had throughout the bill of fair here, above and beyond the prima facie appearance as a humble, small town pizza joint. The pizzas are simple yet consistently cooked quickly and to perfection, and since the Mendocino Hotel shut down they also can lay claim to having the best salads in town. The Pesto Chicken on spinach greens with the handmade dressing and picked-from-the-garden jalapeño slices? *chef's kiss* And don't forget the ice cream for dessert! It's from Cowlick's in Fort Bragg, and though the flavors are hit and miss, when they hit, it's a "Grand Slam into a non-adjacent ZIP code" -level result. If it's summertime and you like root beer, it's a crime against humanity not to get at least a pint of the Root Beer Float flavor, that stuff could put A&W into receivership if they only had wider distribution. All other seasons you've got the world-class chocolate ice cream as a fallback, should none of the others tickle your fancy, so shame on you if you leave without getting your daily dose of calcium first. I know most people are in Mendocino to overpay for everything and have a bunch of experiences that involve people in starched white shirts describing tasting menus with a bunch of French loan words, but keep in mind that those of us who live here like to eat well too, and, well, Frankie's is always busy for a reason. 😉
Very good pizza, I had the number 3 which was very tasty however it had too much spinach. Nice area and atmosphere.
Cute and quaint location. Stir Fry was too spicy for my dad. Mom and I split "unique" nachos. Then we try to order their special salad, but they were out. We settled for another salad. Nice staff willing to make it better.
Good thin crust pizza with foodie - pleasing toppings. Good local ice cream. Kid - friendly space with a big playroom upstairs. Service and facilities are very basic (bathroom out of order due to local water shortage).
Stopped here on a road trip and just got some pizza slices, beer and ice cream as a lunch before moving on... Outdoor patio was dog-friendly. You order yourself at the counter and then they bring it out to you. They only have so many pizza slices for the day and stop when they run out, so may not be available late. All the food we had was delicious! (Pizza, beer, ice cream).
The pizza was good, but not great. The ice cream was great though, very creamy and perfect texture. The wait was long and they were not very efficient at food delivery.
The cheese pizza is great. The ice cream delicious.
This is our go to stop every time we are in Mendocino. It offeres cozy dining (warm too)& great pizza. We had a group of 7 + baby. They have an upstairs with a large table (8), med table(6) small table(4) and toy corner for the littles. The outside dining area is very nice, and can accommodate a larger group on a nice day. Ice cream is locally made. They offer natural sodas, beer, iced tea, wine etc. Ladies are always very friendly. Smugglers pizza is a great option for vegetarians. We ordered (2)16in pizzas and everyone in our group left with satisfied tummies and smiles.
Pizza was good, and the salad was much better than I expected. The ice cream is great too. Add in the friendly staff and the upstairs starting area that reminds me of home (complete with kid's toys) and I'd definitely return.
We got a vegetarian pizza. Didn’t get ice creams as we were full .. however the flavors were tempting .. seats are limited so suits a take away option more
amazing pizza in mendocino! you can taste the freshness of the ingredients and love the specialty pizzas. pretty good crust. overall, highly recommend to satisfy any pizza cravings. smugglers: really enjoyed red sauced based veggie pizza. loved the mushrooms, garlic, and caramelized onions navarro: really enjoyed this pesto based pizza. don’t usually like chicken on pizza but didn’t mind this one. perfect choice of caramelized onions and mozzarella
Such a cute place!! My significant other and I go here after diving, and it hits the spot. Their pizza is great, if not a tad oily (part of its charm), and their ice cream choices are to die for. Service is a little slow because it's always so busy, so I'd recommend ordering ahead.
Good pizza with by the slice options. Very kid friendly. Great ice cream. Candy mushroom Cap ice cream is great and not something you will find elsewhere. Also an option for espresso drinks in town
Overall pretty satisfied with the Virgin Creek pizza we ordered. Very flavorful and cool toppings but the crust was a bit too thick and flaky. The prices were a bit higher than expected but still worth visiting. The ice cream was out of this world, would highly recommend!

We came in for ice cream today. The ice cream was very good, but we barely got any! We ordered two single scoops, and they were barely the size of a child's scoop... around 50% of what you'd expect. For the price, we were not happy.
Gluten free pizza better than the regular one but since is coming in one size it is more expensive than worth it. The items were good but the dough was just so-so....
Great ice cream, not in love with the pizza. Inside is all over the place. A couple tables downstairs behind the stairs, a few tables upstairs, some cramped tables on the patio. I'm not sure how else they could reorganize, but it's not awesome as it is. I couldn't wait to get out of there. The play area upstairs is a great idea, but, it's cramped and there were kids playing in the loft storage spaces and behind fake plants.. I just wanted to leave. It all made me nervous.
I don’t want to be mean as I liked the ambiance and general atmosphere of this restaurant, but I bought 3 large pizzas for $96 and it just wasn’t worth the price. The crust was so very dry, and not like a thin crispy crust, like a dry hand-tossed crust with no additional flavor to the crust. We had a just cheese pizza, which my daughter said tasted exactly like her school lunch pizza, and that’s never a good thing. The “spicy” pizza was not spicy in the least, with the only “spicy” thing being jalapeños, which have to be very particular to be spicy, and these weren’t. On the chicken and pesto pizza, the onions were not caramelized enough so they were still crunchy. I actually thought the pizzas were ok, but for that price, they needed to be fantastic, and they fell far short. My wife and kids did not like the pizza overall.
It was okay in terms of food, I had to season my pizza. They have a cool candy cap mushroom ice cream, if it weren't for the name, one would not know it had mushrooms in it, pretty vanilla but still cool. The music selection was pretty upbeat, I enjoyed that.

We were not fond of the pizza. The pesto had no discernable basil flavor, it just tasted like parsley. The pizza crust was more of a flatbread than pizza. I did not care at all for the minestrone soup and it was not served hot enough. Maybe an off day, but we can't give more stars for this visit.
Unfortunately the food is not as good as it should be, atmosphere is nice, service is good, but they need to invest more in better ingredients.
Friendly staff. Pizza was very over priced for what it was. Stopped here because I do my best to eat only organic food, I'm pregnant and had a craving for pizza. I was over an hour and a half from home which is why I didn't walk out when I saw the prices. As soon as we opened the box I knew we were in for disappointment. When you pay that much for a pizza you should be blown away. The pizza is advertised as thin crust and our pizza was definitely not thin crust. The crust reminded me of a take and bake pizza with no life in it; the kind where you don't eat the bare crust. Personally, I also feel they put way too much Mozzarella on it. It did taste good though with all the toppings on it so, I will give them that. I just think the prices are way higher than the quality otherwise I wouldn't have even bothered to write a review.
The staff were helpful and nice. Came in with a group of 15. Ordered three big salads which came out promptly. Pizza, bland flavor. The crust tasted like it may have been a warmed up frozen crust. Would not recommend the pizza. A few ordered ice cream and said it was good.
We were excited to try Frankie’s, given its reputation and charming setting. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite meet our expectations. The small pizza we ordered had a soggy center, and the crust lacked flavor and seemed undercooked. It’s possible that the larger sizes fare better, but this one missed the mark. The Mediterranean salad was fine but nothing particularly memorable. On the positive side, the ice cream was enjoyable. They offer unique flavors like candy cap mushroom, which was surprisingly good. The selection is limited, but it’s a nice treat, especially considering the scarcity of late-night dessert options in Mendocino. The staff was friendly, and we only waited about 15 minutes, which was reasonable. While we appreciate the community vibe and the effort to provide diverse options, the food quality left us wanting more. Given the rave reviews, perhaps we caught them on an off day, but based on this visit, we can’t justify a higher rating.

The person who took our order last was down right mean. They seemed mad customers came in & it made the energy in the room unbearably awkward and uncomfortable. Food was bland too, but it wasn’t the worst.
I was here about a week ago because someone said pizza was really good but i have to say it was mediocre unfortunately. They offer cappuccino and they acted like they have never made an espresso drink before, why offer it? The ladies appeared friendly but basically didn’t care about your experience, under cooked pizza dough, really bad coffee, ice cream was supposed to be cake batter but tasted like vanilla, pay for bad hot sauce, and small pizza box to take leftover pizza. Sadly for them i do not recommend.

Had a pizza here a few months back and it was great. Had one tonight and it was dry lacking cheese. Definitely not like I remembered (I still ate it though, wouldn’t want to waste food;) when my partner mentioned something to the counter, she was outcast, the chef came out and looked at her crazy and a local got defensive. America!
Arrived at 8:30pm to be told they had closed when their closing time is 9pm. Staff super unfriendly. Against my advice, my partner wanted to go back the next day and what a disappointment it was. Food is overpriced and bland. Ice cream tasted worse than something I could buy at CVS. Would not Suggest going here unless you are desperate.
The food is just about okay. The pizza was really tasteless and the Falafel was dense. But the service was really awful. There were only two people trying to do everything and they did their best. But just pizza and falafel took 25+ mins and even getting ice cream took 10+ mins. If you with young kids (like we were) I would not recommend the place.
Cashier was rude. Never going back I would give you guys a zero what happened to the nice cashier people?
We were staying in a resort about 5 miles away and we’re looking for a quick pizza and wings! I asked for crispy buffalo wings, and I swear they were boiled. They were so soggy.!! The pizza was almost inedible, but we were starving! If you’re looking for a good Pizza Hut wing joint, I would not recommend this place… stay AWAY !
Ice cream and pizza is a huge red flag to begin with. the pizza sauce isnt good, the cheese isnt good, the dough isnt good. Nothing about this is good. Its not even mediocre. Just a huge disappointment. 70 something bucks for 2 really poorly made pizzas. I dont even think the seagulls around here would want to eat this. If you do buy a pizza here then do yourself a huge favor. Dont try to bite it.Throw it away in the nearest dumpster and move on with your life and don't worry about whether or not you missed out on a great pizza because you didn't. Just save the money and disappointment and walk away.
Pizza was just OK. Spent $38 for a large pepperoni pizza I could’ve gotten at Little Caesars for $14 that would’ve been so much better😒$38!!! That’s insane!!! So so disappointed. Do yourself a favor and find someplace else to eat.
Ordered 3 Falafel balls for $6 (that's $2 each!) and this is what we got. When we showed it to one of the women who worked there, she told us that's normal instead of offering to get replacements. To top it off, they taste about as bad as they look. The small $18 pepperoni pizza may as well have been from Little Caesar's.
