Opinions de Lotus Restaurant Menlo Park
I order on the go most of the time but the Chicken Banh Mi is my go to and it is deeeeeeeeelicious! It's perfect every single time i order it and they're always so friendly on the phone and in person. If you haven't stopped by, you really should.
About 6 years ago I spent a month in Maui, and I loved the local food. Not until today, at Phil's Treasure Pot in Menlo Park, have I had such a delicious Hawaiian Lunch. The Hawaiian BBQ Chicken was awesome - it really took me back. Like everyone else has said, you get a lot of food for very low price - especially when you compare it to most of the Menlo restaurants. Great Bargain! The atmosphere is very casual - music playing, small tables in a wide open dining room. It's my new favorite lunch spot in Menlo Park. I will definitely be back to Phil's again soon.
Our new go to place for vegan food! Attentive service. Large portions. Our kids loved the vegetarian pho and wonton soup. We got the veggie stir fry with tofu, which came with a wide variety of vegetables (broccoli, bok choi, mushrooms, carrots, zucchini). All vegetables looked and tasted extremely fresh. Also got the gulf shrimp - not many others restaurants carry it these days, but gulf shrimp is worth the price and soooo much better than farm raised shrimp.
This will be brief because there isn't much to say. Really great place to grab a meal. Big seating area. Easy parking. Down to earth food. Reasonable prices. Quick service. This is what you want after a long day of work. This is comfort food. Food wise, I've only gotten their loco moco. I've had it multiple times and its still amazing every time. The musubis aren't bad either. Definitely recommend.
Amazing food. The quality and quantity of food you are getting for this money is unmatched.
Delicious food. Friendly and excellent customer service. Owners are super nice and accommodating. I’ve been here only three times in the last two weeks and have not been disappointed. Try the Seafood Pho and Salt & Pepper fish filet - filling and satisfying. Thanks Phil!
We usually order freshly made entrées due to gluten free diet. They are really accommodating. The cooking style is very healthy and tasty, not greasy at all! Lots of yummy vegetables. But cash only! Bummer in 2018.
I have known Phil for almost 10years now, and his additude has been contagious. He is a people person and i enjoy his kitchen very much. He's also very personal with the customer, and will spend time with you as time permits itself for to talk with him. I love his place and every chance i get i will always bring another one of my friends in to meet him and they have enjoyed his service and his company.
Unbelievably wonderful find. Great prices and the flavors are on point. I'm loving this place because it reminds me of good quality Chinese fast food and Panda Express doesn't even compare. I've eaten a lot of this kind of Chinese food and Phil's stands out.
My favorite place to eat when I come home. The nicest people with great quality food at reasonable prices. Food is not greasy and made from scratch with love. I truly recommend anyone to eat here. Anyone else says different.....pure lies :)
A clean, cute place that serves Hawaiian and Chinese fare. Food is made from scratch and tastes authentic. Prices are reasonable and the owner is very sweet. I left happy and with a full stomach. I will be back!
The food is ALWAYS high grade, super fresh, and delivered to you by some of the most loving, caring, and generous people you’ll ever meet. What a blessing to the community. Thank you to you and your family for giving us such wonderful meals to enjoy.
My family loves this place! I have never met a friendlier restaurant owner than Phil! Go in twice and he'll remember you and maybe your order too. He easily recites our regular dishes: special duck fried rice, bahn mi, orange chicken, eggplant, green beans... yummmm!
Went in one evening for dinner. My fiancé ordered the Pho. She gave it 5 stars. I ordered the mixed BBQ plate and it was exactly as I remembered. 5 stars. The inside is updated, nice sit down. Very enjoyable. They also have another part of the menu that we didn’t get a chance to try! Plus the Banh Mi! Give this place a try!
The perfect comfort food spot. Exactly what I want to eat, always fresh, and well-prepared with care and attention. Delicious pho, classic dishes, and you can customize your own meal if you want! Phil is a fantastic host, making sure everyone is happy with their food and has everything they need to enjoy their meal. My other half thinks the banh mi are the best in town. We're always happy to go to Lotus - it's become one of our go-to places for dinner.
The food is AMAZING! I am from Hawaii and Phil's Hawaiian menu is just as good if not even better than most of my favorite places to eat in Hawaii. The portions are huge and the prices are very inexpensive. Phil himself came over to our table and introduced himself. He spent quite some time talking to us and getting to know us. He is such a nice man! I highly recommend this place!
Had a very pleasant dinner here. Wonderful chicken pho -fresh tasting. Clean and bright. Super reasonable prices. Will definitely return to try more items. My partner had kung pow chicken that had a nice spicy kick.
Phil's is named after the owner, he's a great guy, he's always around and is always happy to make conversation with everyone who comes in. He learns your name and makes sure to remember you and what you'd like to eat. Having such a personal touch makes the experience of dining here worth every penny The food portions are generous and oh so delicious 😋.
Excellent food and staff is friendly. Recommended!
Dont miss a visit here. Lovely food with ample very fresh veggies and condiments. We enjoyed giant prawns with kung pao sauce, beef pho and teriyaki chicken (low sodium option is flavorful with a delicate sauce). All wonderful and plenty left to take home. We lunched at the patio cafe tables under umbrellas. Proprietor was fun and engaging too.
We love Lotus restaurant!! The food is delicious and the owner Phil is lovely and friendly! We especially enjoy the Hawaiian bbq teriyaki chicken + macaroni salad and rice. Could not speak more highly of this place! Such a fabulous meal and affordable too!! We will continue coming backb
Lotus Restaurant in Menlo Park is such a gem! I had the Hawaiian BBQ chicken plate and it was absolutely delicious. Generous portions, flavorful and so satisfying. Can’t wait to come back and explore more of their Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. Definitely a great go-to lunch spot in Menlo Park!
Very inclusive place that accommodate to different dietary restrictions, with vegan items on the menu! Phill served us and he is fun and very kind, social, and we very much enjoyed our time! Food was delicious, portions are generous — attaching pictures of our vegan dishes: tofu kungpao and tofu with eggplants in garlic sauce, yum!!!!
If you are following me... well you know I like Asian food. I actually like Vietnamese food amongst my 😍 fave. I found a place, northern California. It's newly opened as Lotus Restaurant. The owner is Vietnamese Chinese and he just opened 4 months ago and completely renovated the place. The restaurant has Asian fusion food 😋 going on... Atmosphere - Minamilistic, clean, and tidy. I loved the vibe. The food is delicious. The Pho was perfect. My daughter ordered Hawaiian Teriyaki chicken... and gobbled up her macaroni salad because just loved it. Great place for singles. Couples or family.
Have had two great meals here. The owner Phil is great and very hospitable - all around good vibes and even better food. Ordered the House fried rice and will return soon for it!
We stumbled upon this Pho restaurant and it was great. We also ordered Pot stickers and Chicken salad and almost ate everything. Hubby got the beef PHO and loves all the options
I’ve been going to this place for a few years now and know the owner Phil, as 70% of his customer base does. I have to give it up to him. He has struggled as many other restaurants do, but has risen abov, and now with the new look of fire and flare that fits his awesome personality and GREAT FOOD, I hope everyone enjoys the new place, great food, and most of all, Phil, as much as my family and I do, and that we spread the word to help make his dream come true!
Came in at 1pm on a Saturday and it was pretty empty - food came out quickly. I got the vegetarian pho and it was tasty and well made. Good price point too.

This place is heaven! Over a year ago my partner and I were in downtown Menlo Park and were deciding where to eat. We decided to come here for the Hawaiian BBQ. Let me just tell you, we first came in with curiosity but this became a staple when we lived in San Jose. And yes we happily drove the 30+ minutes to be able to enjoy this food. Our standards for Bah Mi's and Chinese food were elevated. We got to know Phil really well. He treats all his customers like long time regulars. About last year in February my partner received military orders to move to Florida. We came to eat here the second to last day before leaving. We were devastated to leave such a good restaurant behind. We have been missing it since. Almost a whole year later we came back to California to spend the holidays with family. We both knew that the first thing we wanted to eat was some Bah Mi and Pho at Lotus. We just arrived at SF Airport this morning and rented a car to come eat here once Phil opened. We were the first customers of the day and he recognized us and welcomed us back in like we were coming back home. We haven't been able to find anything like this. The food is more than amazing and Phil is like family. He deserves all the good business that life has to offer.
The owner was great and very welcoming. He helped me order several delicious dishes to go. I had a 3 hour drive home and the smell of the food filled up my entire car. Made me enjoy the whole rost duck even more when I got home. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town.
Came here for lunch with the family and met Phil the owner. He is a phenomenal person and the food is fantastic. I got the chefs special Beijing crispy beef and they got the duck soup special. And it was very good. The atmosphere, energy and connection that Phil provided was so healing and needed. Will definitely go again soon.
The food here is amazing!! Always fresh and made to order, and the quality is fantastic! Phil is so joyful and is always so welcoming and accommodating, truly service with a smile! The Bhan Mi sandwich is to die for, and the crispy duck wonton noodle soup is so tasty and decadent; everything I've had (making my way through the menu!) is delicious! Highly recommend!
Hands down best Bahn Mi with garlic fries mmm chef’s kiss! Brisket or meatball pho so comforting and or go Hawaiian with ckn katsu. Love some spicy tofu chef special and pretty much everything!
Love this place!! Hands down one of my favorites around. Been coming year for a few years, food is always great and the owner Phil is super friendly. Every time I've come in he's going table to table and chatting with customers, he's always able to strike up conversation with anyone. I always feel taken care of! Some of my favorite spam musubi in the area, and the Beijing crispy beef is soo good. Honestly everything I've tried has been great. The space itself is well kept and clean, with a big parking lot conveniently right next to the restaurant. IMO a hidden gem for Menlo Park, and definitely one of my favorite spots in the area

We ordered the beef pho, shrimp pho and veggie delight for a quick lunch. The pho soup was delicious, very flavorful. The veggie dish was okay. Service was very friendly and welcoming. There was a bit of a mix up when paying for our check. The server accidentally gave us the bill from another order; and we paid for it. It took a while for him to figure out how to void the payment and redo the correct bill.
I'm a sucker for Hawaiian food, and this place did not disappoint. Great portions for pretty good prices. I got their luau roast pig, which was succulent and juicy! I can not compare to the real one in Hawaii, since I have never been, but I did enjoy it very much. Overall, a quick joint to grab large portions of food you can't really hate.
Thoroughly authentic, very friendly local fast food place. The kind where the staff know the regulars' names, and their "usual"orders. The food is tasty and comforting, if not phenomenal. Prices are very reasonable by local standards, though I'd hesitate to call them low.
Nice service and nice owners. Good portions at just okay prices, but I guess Menlo Park is an expensive place to do business. Would have been five stars if they took credit cards!
This is an off-the-beaten path local eatery. But there is a nice sign when you turn off from El Camino. They have grab and go chinese if you are in a hurry. I had the House Fried Rice, which is way different from other places. It had shrimp, roast duck and chinese sausage. And then fried in duck fat. Very tasty. Phil is very friendly and knows the regulars. Of course, I came in two days in a row, so that made it easy. As another review said, "Prices are very reasonable by local standards, though I'd hesitate to call them low." This is Menlo Park. Nothing is low. Gas is expensive. Housing is expensive. And the food is understandably higher than . . . . in Ohio.

It was late and Phil's was open. Of course, the food was old and the quality of the meat not very good. I prefer Panda Express which has a higher turnover of wok cooking. Their quality is better and prices competitive. Phil's is hidden away in the back of stores on El Camino. Prices are competitive.
The restaurant seemed nice enough but as a former Hawaii resident what I was really craving was the Hawaiian food. I went straight to the most Hawaiian possible dish on the menu, the laulau and Kalua pork combo plate ($10.99 if memory serves). I found it disappointing as the kalua pork had a slightly sour, off-putting taste that I couldn't quite place, and was otherwise a bit light on the salt and smoke flavor that I would normally expect. The laulau was merely okay but nothing special, and the mac salad was not really all that exciting. I may give them a second chance to try the barbecue chicken or kalbi ribs but I haven't decided whether to risk the possibility of being disappointed again. On the plus side the restaurant seemed clean enough and the person at the counter was pleasant and prices were quite reasonable (assuming I wanted to finish all the food I had been served), but when you have that craving for "The Taste of Home" only a great dish will do.
Edit: Recently very short-staffed with a limited menu; completely different experience. Praying for Phil and hoping he is able to find folks to help him recover his restaurant into the place it has been and can be. Will be back in a few months. This place is amazing. The food is delicious and Phil makes you feel like family. It is truly a joy to dine here. Try his specials or ask for his recommendations! You won’t be disappointed. Even came here for my birthday because it just really hits the spot every time.

I do not recommend, went in to have lunch and asked owner, if he recommended anything to eat , very rude, arrogant, and was not welcoming. There was no one in the restaurant when I was there, asked me to "order quick , or get out " . Do not eat at this location.
THEY DON'T TRUST YOU ON THE PHONE ORDERS!!!!! Don't ever call in for take out at Phil's Treasure Pot Restaurant. Why, I had a bad experience there today. I called at 2:00 p.m. and placed an order by phone, gentlemen says give us 15 minutes, I get there at 2:30 and pays for the order. Cashier then calls in the order and said please wait. I asked her why wasn't the one item I order ready and she said we are very busy. I looked around and 4 people finishing up their late lunch and I said to her, there are only 4 people her. Why would you not trust someone that placed an order by phone and you waited until the person pays first before making the meal? She had no response for 5 seconds and said we are very busy! I told her there is no one here and you said it will be ready in 15 minutes. She gave me an evil glare and walked away. So I waited and another gentlemen comes in and said I ordered by phone and here for pick up. Guess what happens, cashier made him pay first before giving the order to the kitchen. Then she said, please wait, we are very busy. At that time, there are no one eating in the restaurant. Overall, food is ok but customer service blows and there is no trust in phone call orders. Prepare to wait at the restaurant if you order by phone. Oh, the young man who is the manager needs to take class on Hospitality Management. When an customer complains all he said was ANYTHING ELSE! ANYTHING ELSE! with a rude stare. Seen it a couple of times when I ate there during lunch.
One of the worst business owners ever. This is a new owner or they pretend to do a Re-opening for marketing purpose. This is a Chinese food, Vietnamese, Hawaiian food place that need an identity. Since they are new(Re-open), so we thought to stop by to try them out. We walked in and didn't see any staff member. After 10 minutes, some guy who were sitting and chatting walk back behind the counter from a customer's table. I think he was chatting up with some of other clients. I saw him when I walked in and he was sitting with them, so didn't think he works there. He, the owner, said wait some more because some were here early and looking through the menu. Ok. No problem. Our turn comes, we place our order and I ask how long it will take. This is when it turn bad for my young daughter and I. He turned to me and said 'depends on the kitchen, it will take as long as it take.' I ask again to see if I can get an estimate. He turn angry and said 'you have the look on your face, you don't look happy.' I explain that we are in a rush and just want to know what to expect. He turned even worst and say 'if you can't wait then get the heck out, I don't want to serve you. I don't like your look.' Never experience this before. He doesn't like my facial expressions, so he berated me in front of my daughter.
This is my first time going to a Pho restaurant but waited for AN HOUR to get just three bowls of Pho served!! We got into the restaurant without seeing any waiters for the first 10min and we had to take the menus on one table on our own. Then it took another 10min to order. When we were having the starters, the waiter asked us to use some napkins because he thought we spilled a little crispy spring rolls on the table. We sat next to the window and it was afternoon so the sun shined on our face directly. At first it was warm and comfortable but after an hour of sitting with the sun shined on our faces?? I even felt a little dizzy because of the sunshine so we moved to another table. Then the waiter came and asked why did we change our seats very impolitely. This place was only serving three groups of people including us at that time but let the first group wait for like 40 minutes and the left two groups wait for over an hour. Let alone the second two groups just ordered pho and some starters. We complained about the waiting, but the waiter blamed the first group for ordering too much food. Bro you kidding me? I highly doubt their ability to serve people efficiently during rush hour. The food was fine but after all of the waiting and the bad serving of the waiter, I don’t think anyone could enjoy the food as how it was.
They sold out of what I wanted, gave a terrible for short ribs that cost almost the same as a combo plate. I would have spent the extra three dollars if he would have told me. Then had the nerve to wait till after I was done eating to tell me what I should have ordered. I asked the manager about it and he copped an attitude, telling me it’s all my fault even tho I couldn’t order what I wanted in the first place. Never going back.
Summary: Owner has issues, he told me I wasn't welcome in his restaurant after being rude to me for no reason. I've been here at least 4 times, and I had a good experience except for today. The first few times I went I chatted with the owner Phil, who was a great host, and asked me questions about what I studied, etc. About a month ago I went here, Phil wasn't there. I asked where Phil was, hoping to catch up, and they said I could catch him another day. Today I went and Phil was very rude to me. It started off subtle but got a lot more clear. He told me to sit anywhere, so I sat at a booth. Then he told me to move, and let bigger groups have the bigger table. I ordered the Crispy Beef, and asked if it came with rice. He read the menu description out loud to me, and said "doesn't look like it comes with rice." Then I tried to order rice, I said "I'll have the 8 oz white rice. Actually - " Then, he left mid-sentence, telling me he'd give me more time to decide. The next time he came around, I continued to try to order. One of the options on the menu was "Egg Fried or Plain Chow Mein". So I ordered the "Egg Fried Chow Mein". He told me that wasn't an option on the menu. He said "Or means or the other. Which one is it?" I was really confused since it seemed like he was asking me to choose between "Egg Fried" or "Plain Chow Mein". He said that I was a smart guy, there was a typo on the menu, but I knew what he meant. I did not actually know what he meant. It turns out he meant "egg fried rice or plain chow mein", which is what it says on the online menu. But I was confused and I think he thinks I was acting dumb. At that point, I made an excuse that I had to go do something, and said sorry, but I had to leave. He said "I know". I came back and asked him If I did something wrong, since I had always seen Phil as being friendly. He told me I wasn't welcome here anymore, since I was rude the last time I came. I had no idea what he was talking about. He told me that he knows I graduated from Stanford, but that doesn't mean I can look down on people. Then he dismissed me. It's possible he mistook me for someone else, as he told me that I hadn't been here in 3 years, when the last time I saw Phil was last year. Either that or he is unstable or has some anger issues.
