We were presented with the family room adjacent to the river which was quiet except for the sound of the river and chirping birds. Staff were approachable, friendly and courteous and very busy. The food in the bar was seriously delicious. Cooked to perfection and presented well. Due to the nature of our visit we were too tired to use the swimming pool and gym but maybe next time we visit. We visited Merthyr for a lovely dinner on our first night then went into Cardiff by train. Very busy two days so must come back for a more relaxing visit.
Absolutely stunning food. The pork loin was beautiful. Thank you for a great experience.
Had lunch on Saturday 17th January Absolutely outstanding meal. The staff were second to none. Very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Definitely going again and again
I can't rate the rooms, we didn't stay. The spa facilities are good. The hotel itself is located just of the main road, so it's perfect. The food is very good. The treatments, what can I say. I had the best massage and facial I have ever had. I would highly recommend Cameron. My back felt 1000× better. It definitely was the best feeling, when all those knots got crunched out 🥴 I will definitely be returning.
We called for lunch and received a friendly welcome. We both opted for the fish finger sandwich with chips, fabulous value at £9.75. I couldn’t finish mine. Other meals coming out looked lovely and good value. Only criticism is that the lounge bar could do with a deep clean. The chairs at the table in front of me were very dirty with dust and finger marks, also our table was very sticky and the varnish had blistered all over the top of the table, likewise the internal white doors were very dirty from hands! Apart from that the staff work hard and the food is nice.
My wife and I stayed here as part of our pre-honeymoon and absolutely loved it here. Staff are so welcoming and friendly, food was delicious and the lo ation was amazing. We give it a huge thumbs up and the full five stars. The only niggle we really had was that our mattress was tired and worn. Other than this we loved our stay and we shall return.
A fantastic spot close to the Brecon Beacons. Staff were courteous, accommodating and super friendly. Food was brilliant and all the staff went out of their way. Amenities are good and there is also an electric car charger available. Will definitely stay again 😁
My partner & i stayed here for 1 night as a break away from a stressful week, it was so nice, the staff were very helpful & friendly the food was amazing & the spar was so relaxing. We have decided to call back for Sunday dinner. Beautiful place definitely will return.
First time visiting and would highly recommend, all the staff were amazing and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. Food in the evening was superb and the surrounding land made a great view from the room.
Thank you for making our stay with you on the weekend so relaxing and welcomed !! Food was absolutely outstanding !!!! And the staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable the room was spotlessly clean many thanks
Honestly 1 of best spa hotels I've stayed in, warm welcome by reception, catering staff lovely and friendly serving some awesome breakfast, rooms was clean and heated, spa facilities was absolutely awesome and cleaned daily, spa staff all friendly, definitely would come and stay again we both had a lovely time, a full week of great time, definitely recommend room 13 to anyone
Some rooms are a bit dated because of the grade 1 listing. On the whole very nice and staff can't do enough for you. Food was excellent 10/10 👌
Lovely place even had the chef knock me up a curry as i didnt fancy the menu..... and it was bloody lovely
Visited for a spa day. Really lovely staff. Fabulous facial and shoulder massage. Nice relaxing time in the jacuzzi, enjoyed the pool area and quiet room. Lunch was amazing. Fantastic menu selection and beautiful food.
Great place to stay, quite with friendly efficient staff. Food was amazing
The location of the hotel is fabulous especially if you're looking to explore the many walks & waterfalls in the area, it really is breathtaking. The rooms are looking a little tired, as was the jacuzzi, but for me what made the hotel were the staff. The female on reception was exceptional, she resolved an issue over the booking when Agoda (booking site) customer service couldn't care-less, this accompanied with the barman, the female bar manager and the ladies on breakfast this morning, all were so friendly and willing to help. Without doubt I would return here just for the level of service that was shown by the staff, they really were a credit to The Nant Ddu Lodge. The location and staff really were A*.
I love this place staff are 1st class and the food is superb. The hotel is looking a bit tired decor wise but the rooms are spacious and clean and I had a great night sleep.
Had a really good stay at the lodge with my family. The rooms were spot on, service was amazing! Really enjoyed our stay!
Staff are absolutely lovely, especially the ones who was on reception Saturday and Sunday, helped me out when I had lost my boyfriend, stayed with me and let me use her phone so that I could call about. Such a lovely person. The rooms are lovely, and the spa area is well done out. Would highly recommend anyone coming here.
My husband and I go swimming here 3 times a week, lovely pool, nice temperature 🌡, best pool we've ever used, plenty of parking room, very pretty place and grounds. Beauty treatments/ massages available.
I never leave reviews however after staying here at the start of October Nant Ddu Lodge Hotel deserves one. We have nothing negative to say about this hotel nor is anything below exaggerated. We used all the available facilities such as the restaurant, swimming pool, bar etc and everything was better than we could had imagine. The room has to be one of the best we have stayed in, it was hugely spacious, the bathroom was super clean and the shower was always hot with good pressure no matter what time of day. The location is super ideal if you are looking to adventure out. Practically on the door step to Pen y Fan and only round the corner to the 'Four Waterfall' trail. We had dinner each night at the hotel and the food did not disappoint. Not the biggest selection we have experienced but certainly enough to please the majority. The swimming pool was clean and warm - towels were provided and changing facilities with lockable lockers. Reception desk was super helpful and all staff were friendly and approachable. Like I say, an honest review and none of this 'there was a cobweb - I wouldnt stay again' rubbish.
Just had our second stay at this location. Issue with allocated room, all sorted out by the fount of knowledge and customer service Molly on reception, absolutely brilliant. Excellent Welsh breakfast to set us up for the next day. Don't listen to all the downvoters nitpicking (and more) about everything here.......
Nice spacious room on ground floor, very clean and comfortable and huge bed. Only issue was there was nowhere to easily hang up wet coats. Retractable clothes line over the bath was effective for swim suits. Super friendly staff, and easily accessible location with car park near door. Would definitely stay again, great value for money.
My partner and I had a very enjoyable stay and agreed that this hotel represents excellent value for money. We particularly enjoyed the swimming pool!
Booked the Snowdrop special offer stay. £130 for bed, breakfast & evening meal with use of spa facilities - such good value for money. Rooms are a bit dated, changing rooms to pool need renovation but what makes this place is the standard of the food in the restaurant. Best evening meal I’ve ever had. Also big shout out to the young staff! They are incredible, polite & always smiling 😊 would recommend a stay here - enjoyed every minute.
Enjoyed our stay. Lovely food. The head board had seen better days... but we enjoyed our stay.
Went to gym today, despite the bikes not working properly with a pedal attached by one loose screw and the machines and decor leaving a lot to be desired, I was told no electric in gym due to them prioritising electric after power outage yesterday you are allowed to use fee weights but not machines. The gym without power is pitch black and a health and safety hazard. This is not acceptable
Nice hotel. It’s old and needs a bit of a renovation in places. It’s cheap so it is as you wouldn’t expect for the price. The breakfast was lovely but didn’t try evening meal as it looked expensive.
The staff are great, food is lush and the treatment went well. However, the spa and changing rooms could do with some TLC and investment. The loungers are tatty and the place looked a little dirty and dusty. I hope that the owners are able to invest in giving this beautifully located hotel the lift it deserves. We did the head to toe package for £52 - fair value for money for our afternoon.
Nice place, great staff, could do with an update, room had damp patched on the walls and peeling paint, tv was tiny and solid hardly see it from bed, wifi in my room was very poor with low signal and kept dropping out.
Lovely location 👌 great food only stayed one night but really enjoyed thanks
I stayed here for one night on business. The staff are really very friendly, I had to change rooms due to lack of WiFi in my original room and this was done very quickly and with a great friendly attitude which makes all the difference when needing to change rooms. The rooms are large and spacious if a little tired, I have no issues with the homely decor, I'd much rather a good sized room like these with slightly dated decor than a small room with modern fittings. The mattresses though are an issue. They are not comfortable at all which is an obvious problem when needing sleep after a 250 mile journey with another 250 mile journey to do today. I know mattress comfort is subjective, but these mattresses feel cheap, 'well worn' and uneven. The food was fantastic. Having eaten at many MANY hotels (probably over 100) over the last 3 years, the meal I had here was the best I've had yet. I ordered the Ribeye steak (medium) and chips, honestly, the chips were probably the best I've eaten ever... we've all eaten good chips, but these were something else. Absolutely superb. The steak was a very generous size, well aged and cooked perfectly as ordered. Whoever the chef is, you are exceptionally good at what you do. However you make those chips - don't change it, ever! The spa facilities are good, the pool is large enough for a proper swim and the hot tub is comfortably big enough 6 without that awkward 'squished' feeling. Though there are lots of missing tiles in the hot tub which are sharp, I scratched my foot on the sharp edges so that's no ideal... The changing room facilities are adequate however most of the locks on the lockers are rusted to the point of not turning and the wet bag dispenser is (without exaggerating) 90% rust. A few inexpensive updates would make this a much nicer area. All in, I'd be happy to return IF the mattresses are changed. The staff and service was excellent, the food was superb, the rooms are nice a big, the facilities are good, but the mattress is a problem. Hopefully these will be changed as I come to the area probably 4 times a year, and would be happy to always use this hotel if only for the service and food, but not with the current mattresses - with the milage i do, sleep is essential.
Location is great and peaceful quiet area just few mins from Beacons. A good well cooked breakfast & cold options. Rooms are basic but clean & comfortable. Pool & Sauna's are great but changing room cud do with a spruce & strange no secure lockers. WiFi fkakey
Arrived for a two day break on arrival my room is lovey and clean and very comfortable .. breakfast very good .. the place is lovely there is some areas that need updating , changing rooms showers , the steam room is a little tired with tiles missing on the seats and hardly no steam coming out , the jacuzzi was a lukewarm and lacked power . But overall I enjoyed my stay very clean and most of the hotel was nice .. I would return in the future
Could do with updating, tired looking TVs were awful in the room and could do with a strap on the locker keys so you can keep them on you. Food was excellent wpuld come.again for food
Went for a meal which was lovely but went to the bar to pay and nobody was there for 20 minutes. Eventually some guy come out and apologised and advised they had changed shifts and he didn't know anyone was there.
Wonderful reception staff - can’t say enough positive things about them. The food in the restaurant is tasty, the sauna is HOT, and the location and surroundings are beautiful. But that’s where it ends. The rooms are tired, damaged, poorly decorated and do not feel clean. From ripped bed sheets to chipped paint. The breakfast buffet was minimal although hot food was tasty. The restaurant staff are inattentive and we had to ask to be seated, order, and have things like fresh glasses. Although the pool and spa are a great addition, it did not feel very clean or well maintained with lots of dirt in the bottom of the pool, a cold and chipped hot tub, and dirty floors. Night porters were no help with noise complaints after ringing and walking down to reception more than 7 times in a singular evening to try and get help with a noisy neighbour. Reception were great the next morning but why have a phone line if it will never be answered at night? In general, extremely over priced and won’t be recommending. I hope you take all of the reviews on board and refresh the hotel since it is a beautiful location. Thank you again to the fantastic reception staff who made our stay much more enjoyable.
My friends and I came for a spa day a few months ago using one of the offers for a spa treatment, use of the facilities and a light lunch. The hotel is lovely, easy to find and the grounds are beautiful. The staff are friendly and we were really happy with the massages we all had. However the facilities are crying out for renovation. The changing rooms are very small. The jacuzzi barely worked and had more tiles missing than the tiles that were left which is such a shame! Lunch was lovely.
The restaurant serves up good, tasty fare - which is welcome after a day’s hike. Catering for us as a large party of 11 was a little slow at times, but staff were generally friendly and accommodating. The room experience was inconsistent, with some rooms still needing a refresh. Some of us took advantage of the gym and pool. Adequate overall but owners are missing an opportunity to take advantage of corporate tourism and could invest more in upgrading the hotel.
If I am honest, this place is tired and in need of a refresh. The restaurant and food served was bad, but the room and the pool area were poor and needed work. Whilst we had a pleasant stay, I'm not sure I would return if I was looking for a stay in the area unless the rooms and pool area has been refreshed (for example, the jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, loungers and changing room all need extensive work to get the ok again, and the rooms also need refreshing.
We stayed at Nant Ddu Lodge during our Easter getaway to Brecon Beacon. Fantastic location and good food, but our experience at Bistro during dinner was something that we want to forget. Upon arrival without a reservation, we were immediately told by one male staff that no tables were available, despite numerous empty tables being clearly visible. When I inquired about these empty tables, we were dismissively directed to go to the pub instead. The interaction felt uncomfortable and discriminatory, potentially due to being people of colour. Feeling something wasn’t right, I approached the front desk where Danny checked availability and confirmed they actually had tables ready immediately. When I explained what had just happened, she apologised sincerely. Upon returning to Bistro, Jess greeted us warmly, seated us promptly, and also apologised for our earlier experience. The contrast between the two experiences was stark. While the food and service from Jess were good, the initial interaction left us feeling unwelcome and discriminated against. No guest should experience this treatment. Just want to emphasise that throughout the meal there were many unoccupied tables. I appreciate the professionalism shown by Danny and Jess in rectifying the situation, but management should ensure all staff provide consistent, respectful service to every guest regardless of their background. In today’s world, there’s no place for such discriminatory behavior.
Fantastic full body massage, lovely members of staff, but the pool area was really grotty. The steam room smells like a men’s urinal, we couldn’t even sit in there the smell of urine was so bad, jacuzzi, pool and changing rooms were run down needs a good refurbish. Staff were welcoming and friendly.
Just had the spa weekend in a superior room. The whole venue is in need of a complete revamp as it is old and dated, room was hardly superior as it was very basic, no fridge or water provided, matress is soft and you can feel the springs. The full body massage was just ok for me but my partener had a recently qualified girl who did hardly anything. Bar and small lounge area ate tired and uncomfortable with no atmosphere. The evening meal was nice but the service is not of a very high standard, quite a wait after starter, ordered a bottle of wine with our meal but it arrived after we had finished so we cancelled it. Breakfast ok. Rather dissapointing for the £325, plus drinks, it cost us.
The spa facilities are a mess. The locker room and changing rooms are filthy and full of mold. The place was crowded with much more adults and kids than it could have. There should be a limit of maximum people. Also when they charge extremely high amounts of money for 'relaxation' packages, they can't expect you to be satisfied in a hot tub with more than 10 kids screaming and spashing everywhere. Not recommend. The massage was good though.
Disappointed.....I was so excited when I found this lodge on booking.com. it was reasonably priced and seemed perfect for our two night stay. The rooms pictured online were nothing like the room we got. As others have mentioned, the rooms are tired, the bathrooms do not have a shower, which after a day of biking/ hiking was most needed - I had to go to the swimming pool changing rooms for a shower. The beds were too small for a couple being a small double and I could feel every spring poking through the mattress. The cleaners threw away my swimmers I had left in a plastic bag in the bath. The good bits- the pool area/ sauna/ spa area was an added bonus as was the gym. The staff seemed lovely. Breakfast was plentiful and well cooked. Great location 10 minutes from town. Would I stay again? Not in it's current state.
Very tired and dated needs painting throughout, bed uncomfortable, food nice but overpriced. Jacuzzi bkack mould around edges steam room tiles missing would bot recommend this place never a 3 star, owners need to spend some money on it
Very much did NOT enjoy our stay there. The room was clean, but the bed was very uncomfortable, we couldn't sleep. The shower was scolding hot, and it took very long to be able to get the temperature down, so that we wouldn't get burned. Also, there were no anti-slip measures in the bath tub, and it was very slippery, I actually slipped and fell, and was hurt. In the spa, the jacuzzi was luke warm, and the bubbles were so weak, there was really no point in sitting there. As the hotel is relatively isolated, we had dinner in the hotel restaurant. The prices were very high, which we wouldn't have minded if the food was good, but it was mediocre at best. We would have had a better meal at Nando's if I'm honest... One of my least enjoyable spa getaway ever. I don't recommend it. We will not be going back there.
It makes me sad when I have to review a hotel that’s has so much potential but is let down somehow. We stayed for our 10 year wedding anniversary recently which we were very much looking forward to as a rare child free weekend at spa hotel near beautiful places that we both love. The good. The hotel has mostly kind and helpful staff, the location is lovely and cannot be faulted. There is excellent wifi and mobile phone service. The parking is easy and free. The food and drink are great and top notch. Our room was a junior suite and was relatively modern. We did have a lounge also as part of the suite including sofa tv, mini fridge, phone, tea and coffee. There is a swimming pool and gym and small simple grounds to sit out on when dry. The bed was generally comfortable. The bathroom looked very modern with proper tiles throughout. Breakfast was fine. The negative. On closer inspection the hotel suffers from a general lack of maintenance. The exterior of the building and windows need care. The food was lovely but quite pricey. There is one menu for food and no other options. So it’s expensive or go somewhere else which being in the mountains is at least a 20 minute drive away. The mini fridge was not stocked which in many hotels I have been to is a thing. It did work so was useful however. The tv remote didn’t seem to work when trying to change the channel in the lounge. We resorted to watching stuff on an iPad. There is no air con or fans in the room and only small opening windows to cool the room. It was very hot when we arrived at our room and couldn’t find any thermostat to see if heating was set to on. This also caused my biggest problem with the hotel. On our first night we were very warm 25c + so left the windows open. Only to find at about 11 that the room was full of 1000s of midges. We spent about an hour on a chair squishing them with toilet roll the only thing we could do. This as you can imagine was not easy and not something either of us wanted to do considering we were tired. We definitely didn’t get them all out of the room as the next day found that I had been bitten all over with maybe 30 bites. They were itchy for about a week and still visible 2 weeks later. Luckily non have been infected but just ichy. This problem is something that could have been easily fixed by adding a sign to the room, removable magnetic fly net’s or by reception when we checked in alerting us to this fact. I know it is obvious to staff but customers might not know that it is a problem until it is too late. Like us. I did notice that other rooms did have a sign but ours didn’t for some reason. I barely slept on my first night thinking about the midges and also the heat as we couldn’t open a window and no air con or fan was provided. It was maybe 26/27c. So not comfortable. We asked at reception in the morning if they could do anything but apparently there was nothing they could do and couldn’t provide a fan. I also felt quite dirty as there would have been lots of dead flys on the floor and I am not sure if house cleaning hoovered it, they did make the bed so had been. The walls (squished flys) and carpets did generally seem quite dirty in need of a deep clean. The bathroom toilet flush did not work properly, the shower door did not close completely and water went all over the floor. The swimming pool does need some maintenance. many tiles are missing and there is quite a bit of Debris on the bottom of the pool. The jacuzzi only half the jets worked. The changing rooms really need some attention. There is a lot of rust on any exposed metal and quite unsightly. the ceiling tile grids were very rusty. The fire doors also to the changing room (male) would not close as had swelled considerably so would be a fire risk in event of fire. There were no spare locks for the changing room lockers in the spa area when I asked the staff and we didn’t have one, so left my clothes in an unlocked locker which I wasn’t too worried about but not ideal. I would like to see improvements to this hotel and I would visit again.
Went for the spa break package at the lodge and had a mixed experience. The treatments were great and relaxing, however the spa facilities are in a bad state (changing rooms are dirty with hair lying around everywhere). The food was also very disappointing. The package included some credit towards the dinner, but the food is definitely not worth the price. Every dish was disappointing, dry and simple for the price. Hoping a full Welsh breakfast would be a simple thing to make, we were met with disappointment once again. A hard dry sausage, a soaking mushroom and rock solid scrambled eggs. All in all, the staff was the highlight of our stay as they were very polite and helpful! The place is in real need of a renovation ( judging from the state of the furniture and changing rooms), I would not recommend this place for food, only for their treatments.
The location is beautiful, shame about the Lodge. We arrived at said book in time to be told room wasn't ready. The room had alot to be desired. Walls had damp, which they have attempted to paint over. Bathroom had no where to put anything. No shelves, toilet roll holder, hooks, towel rail. Everything had to go on floor. Bathroom needed a really good clean. Didn't even have a toilet brush. Couldn't walk from one end of room to other without making loads of noise from creaking floor boards. No Wifi signal at all. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
The rooms and the spa are really dated and need alot of love and attention. It's like they've done the rooms as cheap as possible with student like furniture. We stayed in the Junior suite which would make you think luxury... Absolutely nothing of the sort. Everything was there but it was basic. The bathroom had the seals all coming away from the floor, skirting so damp it's off the wall, toilet roll holder hanging on by a thread! The jacuzzi in the spa doesn't work properly and theres loads of tiles missing from it. The staff however are lovely. Very helpful and attentive! So friendly and always at hand so great service from them just a shame the owners don't put effort into upgrading the place as it's still the same as the last time I went years ago!
Rooms are very dated and their standard rooms do NOT have aircon. You will ROAST in the summer if a heatwave is going on! On the bright side they are a 5 mins drive away from the Pen y Fan hike.
Friendly staff, nice location, and good food. Seems like this business is more orientated around the spa and restaurant, forgetting about hotel aspects. Very soft spring mattress with a winter tog duvet in June. No air-conditioning, and if you open the window, you get attacked by midges. I get the bug problem comes with the riverside location, but if guests can't go out, give them somewhere comfortable to sit inside. There are no comfortable seats throughout the hotel. Not one armchair or sofa. I'm disabled and have back problems. Only managed 1 of a 2 night stay due to a terrible mattress. 3 days later, I'm still in pain. Nice to stop in at but I wouldn't stay there again.
I stay in hotels most of the week and this has to be one of the worst value and most dated hotels I’ve been to. There was nothing relaxing about this ‘spa’ hotel. The room is in a freezing cold annexe, carpet soaking outside, the most hard and uncomfortable bed I’ve ever experienced, no shower in the bathroom (just has a shower head wrapped around the tap), cheapest possible tea / coffee tray, and furnishings that the 1980’s would have been proud of. The quality is not reflected in the room price one bit. Staff are friendly (one positive) but the evening menu at dinner was extortionate and in a dated, coach holiday-request restaurant. City centre bistro dining doesn’t charge what this place is. They seem to rely on the fact there is nothing within a 4-5 mile radius. After all this, I dared not try to the spa as the upkeep is no doubt similar and I’d rather not risk getting a bug for the Christmas period. The company that owns this hotel should be ashamed at their penny pitching and lack of investment. Clearly creaming the profits from the top to pay themselves handsomely. Save yourself the hassle and book the Travelodge 10 minutes away.
Very disappointed, dirty changing rooms, black mould. Really needs a revamp, it looks sad, tiles missing. Not worth the money, staff was lovely all except the receptionist who was rude, to myself & the party in front of me. Warm & welcoming. 😔 food was lovely, so was the staff in the bar area. Would never return again.
1/5 - would highly NOT recommend this place. This is not a 3 star hotel at all, 1 star at best. We stayed 2 nights and on the first night, we had no hot water in our room and could not take a shower. The staff in the front told us to use the spa showers, which had water turn on for 20 seconds and was covered in mold. They fixed the hot water on our second night, but if you read other reviews, it seems that this is a recurring issue as many other people have this issue as well. The rooms pictured online were nothing like the room we got. The room was extremely old and washrooms had mold in it. The bed was uncomfortable and lumpy.
Disappointed.. It looked lovely on the pictures only. Overpriced. The place is tiered. Could do with pillow upgrade, as we didn't get so much needed good night sleep. The breakfast was very poor, dry seemts its been reheated few times, and what it should have been full welsh we only got half. Wonderful reception staff. Would not be returning here.
