The staff made it very easy for me. A hassle-free and enjoyable experience.
Was in from Boston for some R & D on equipment. Bad weather had forced them to close for the day, but we were graciously invited in to see the place and talk shop. We made the trip in the next morning to eat and we were not disappointed. We were the first ones n, were greeted graciously by the crew, and proceeded to eat until we couldn't fit anymore. It was impressive how quickly the location filled up and even more impressive how efficiently the crew worked to get through the line. We felt very welcomed and cant wait to get back some day to do it all again!
We stopped in while on our road trip of the USA, and I have to say, the food and the staff were awesome! The brisket was so tender! The ribs literally fell off the bone. Their chorizo and pinto beans are so flavorful but not over powering.. and the coleslaw was the best I’ve had in the last 12 states. If we lived here we would be regular's.
I have eaten at many fantastic Texas BBQ joints and I also make some exceptional BB-Q, myself. I am very into BBQ. This is my favorite local joint DFW/MESQUITE. Dependable fair, taste & quality. They have some amazing original food item from their CHOP-CHOP FRITO Bowl, and their MANHANDLER sandwich. This place won't make any national BBQ list but it is tasty and affordable.
This is my favorite BBQ place in and around Mesquite. Cafeteria style with excellent meats and sides done right. My dad always gets the pulled pork, I get the brisket and sausage. Always great. Then we get whatever sides we want, my dad especially liking the mac and cheese. I like the fried okra. Everyone is nice and we're never disappointed. If you're in the area, this is the place to go.
We wanted to get good Barbecue for the family and they didn't fail us. We got their delicious sausage and delicious sliced Brisket. Their baked potato Casserole was so good. The atmosphere was cozy and clean. Everyone was so friendly. We will go back.
4/2023 update: still great! One of the best BBQ places anywhere. 2021:Good home style BBQ. The backed potato is a steal of a deal! It is huge and filling. If you like burnt ends give the chop chop a try! It is a bit of a sloppy joe with brisket, oh so good! The chopped and sliced brisket is always good. The deserts are good as well.
I took my family and soon to be son in law for lunch yesterday cause he had never tried it. He loved it. Hopefully they pick it as thero food for the wedding. We even got to visit with the owner Mr. Palmer. He was amazing as well as the staff and of course the food was OUT OF THIS WORLD
All this time in the area and never been here...Going back as soon as I can. Tender great tasting sliced brisket. Reasonably priced with friendly staff.
Best BBQ brisket in the DFW area! First time I’ve been served a warm fresh brisket. Employees are super nice and they made sure my experience was above and beyond.
Best BBQ around. Friendly staff, good prices.
Flew in to the airport and wanted a quick but good lunch. We were directed here and it was VERY good BBQ!
Today's visit might have been my last. 🥺 Almost $13 dollars for a chop chop sandwich, fries and a CUP of ice! The sandwich was good as usual,..that's if you even like the CC. But fries were undercooked and unsalted. The biggest shock to me was the prices of their fountain drinks. $3.99 and $4.79 for a small and large!!! Dayuum!!!
We stopped on our way out of Dallas and it was PERFECT. We ordered Stuffed Fries and a rib plate. To say the fries were completely covered is an understatement. They were smothered in shredded cheese, lots of butter and sour cream and piled with a mountain of meat. We got ours with briskets and it was absolutely wonderful. The Mac n cheese was good and the ribs were very tender. The atmosphere was nice and the people were great. Would definitely bring the family here again.
I had to try this place! I just recently moved to Mesquite and my father recommended this BBQ. The food was delicious. The two young men preparing my food were very nice and cheerful. They also had two cashiers, one bagging and the other ringing out customers… the young lady bagging the food was so nice, welcoming and talkative. BUT the other very tall young Hispanic lady was not nice at all. She did not crack a smile NOT once. I even asked if the sweet was good and she looked at me and didn’t answer so the other young lady answered for her. I gave this place 5 stars because the food was great and everyone else was nice and happy. Maybe she was having a bad day so I hope next time I visit she’s nice to customers and I catch her on a good day.
This was amazing. We ordered the stuffed fries, rib plate, and mesquite bombs (peppers). Everyone loved their meals. We are from SW Louisiana and will 💯make sure to eat here when we are back in this area. The folks working were happy, helpful and personable.
I love this place. It's Exactly what you expect when you want BBQ.
Always good quality food great service
Mesquite BBQ has not only been a personal favorite for my wife and I but also a favorite for our 5th Generation Electric team. Service is always friendly engaging with awesome smiles and family environment. Food is always consistent and delicious and never disappoints. Always looking for the next visit to Mesquite BBQ
I was CRAVING brisket, so I googled a spot and tried it out. Well, I have been back 5 more times in about 6 weeks!! The brisket has a great bark and smoke ring... that's how you know they know what they are doing. VERY VERY good. Also, everyone is always smiling and you feel like you are right at home. Very proud of this place. I have not tried anything else because it feel like it's so hard to find a good brisket.
Can I give 10 stars? Guess not... Well as you can tell I had a great experience, I'm from Memphis, and the chicken sandwich I got here was the best I've ever had. They took my food allergy very serious, they changed gloves, cutting boards, got a new knife, it was like they opened a whole new restaurant, just for me. That is taking customer service tui the next level.
We were in the area and wanted some bbq. We googled bbq restaurants in the area....Man!!!!! When I tell you this was the best bbq we've ever tasted since we've been in the DFW for 18 years?!?!?! The sides were bomb, the meats melts in your mouth, and above all the friendly service and very very clean establishment won us over!!! Can't wait to come back with our family!!!
Incredibly cool place in the old city. Pretty much stepping back to a time where service was the key to success. This place is a must see in the area. I mean seriously, how can you go to Mesquite, TX without going to Mesquite BBQ. This place is iconic. The plate lunches are definitely more than filling. Great sized portions, incredible tastes and the ambience and service are off the charts. This place has one of the most deliciously smokey flavors that I've tried. You will definitely leave feeling like you've won the food lotto. Enjoy your BBQ, then you have to give these folks a try.
Went to Mesquite BBQ and ordered the stuffed baked potato… and I’m pretty sure they actually stuffed Texas inside that thing. It was massive and tasted incredible. The jalapeños? Whole, tender, and so good I thought about asking them to adopt me. The servers were all smiles and made us feel right at home. Parking was kind of like playing Tetris, but hey — when the food’s this good, you’ll wedge your car in anywhere. Worth every bite (and every parking maneuver).
Got a stuffed baked potato with brisket and it was delicious...as my kids stated. I agree with them. The brisket was tender and juicy. I loved the taste of the bbq sauce as well. The desserts were fantastic. The staff were courteous and the restaurant was very clean. We will return again.
Absolutely amazingly delicious Ribs and sides. Was feeling a little famished after heading to the Mesquite gun show, which wasn't really worth driving to and happened to drive up to this gem of a place. It's very old-timey and no frills kind of restaurant/smoke house. Which is exactly what made me and Wifey want to try it. Usually the flashy ones are not the best. The staff was so welcoming and kind, I asked for the biggest rack of ribs available and went to town. I do not regret anything after that. All of the dishes were just to die for flavorful and scrumptious as if grandma herself was preparing them. I will return no doubt soon to stuff my face with deliciousness in the near future. If you're in Mesquite, don't make the mistake to skip this gem. You'll regret it!
I'm in town for work. This place was recommended. The food is great!! I tried the brisket, hot links, baked beans and green beans. It was all yummy. The only thing better than the food is the employees. Very nice and welcoming. You need to stop here!
I loved this place, first time we’ve been and we were first through the door. The building is a perfect 1959 time warp which is always awesome! The folks were friendly. The sides were actually good (most bbq places can’t do that for some reason). The ribs were ridiculous, fall off the bone, juicy, perfect seasoning. The sliced brisket was very good and had a nice bark. And funny enough, the pit ham was phenomenal. I will absolutely come back, it’s a good find.
I was in town and wanted some authentic BBQ. I got the 3 meat platter. The owner was carving meat and steered me in the right direction. Everything including the sides were simply amazing. The food has a ton of high quality and care in every bite! The staff (and owner) are polite, personable, and professional. I will go back!
I just recently had my daughters sweet 15 (02/22/2020) We had Mesquite BBQ cater our dinner for family and friends. It was the best experience I have ever had with any company catering. Not only was the food great. But Dustin Palmer the owner himself came to deliver the food to the party. My mother was supposed to pick up the food but Dustin said "No don't worry about it I will take it to you" He went above and beyond! He came to the dinner and set up the pans put the water in the pans and even started the burners to keep the food warm. I have always loved Mesquite BBQ I have been going there ever since I went to high school at Mesquite HS across the street. I have taking my children there and family members that I deeply love and care about. But now I truly know how much I enjoy and respect this restaurant. They are always very welcoming and caring about the people they serve not only at the restaurant but even outside on the restaurant. I got so many complements about how great the food was. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MESQUITE BBQ! they will always be my first choose if I have to cater another one of my parties. Thank you to Dustin & Melanie Palmer and their crew for being there and making my daughters party so great!
Absolutely FANTASTIC BBQ!! So glad we listened to the Google reviews. Any place that’s been doing BBQ since 1959 has got to be good, and it was. Absolutely flavourful brisket, ham and ribs AND the mac’n cheese and potato side, can’t remember what it’s called but it’s creamy and garlicky..OMG!! Amazing! Thank you for a fantastic meal and your staff was super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this establishment 🙌
Possibly the best BBQ I've had yet! I've tried many different BBQ places in many different states while traveling, but Mesquite BBQ is one of those places that exceeds family expectations! Food (BBQ sandwich, bacon green beans and okra is obviously five stars. Service is more than phenomenal, and fast for cutting the meat and preparing food in front of you as you go, so give stars. The atmosphere speaks for itself and I give it five stars, especially if you start checking out the decorations and everything! From my aunts funeral to a family dinner, this place brightened up our day! I will certainly be back again one day!
I eat here regularly (Doordash). A coworker talked me into going to the “famous” barbecue place in Deep Elum. It wasn’t even 50% as good as Mesquite BBQ. It wasn’t even close. The brisket here should be world famous.
Amazing barbecue joint in Mesquite. really friendly service, and good portion. We ordered the three meat platter and it filled up two guys. also loved the decor inside, very retro. I especially recommend the mac & cheese. So creamy and tasty. for me the highlight is the ribs and the brisket.
Stopped for lunch at the historic, downtown Mesquite BBQ. Pictured is the lunch plate...chopped brisket sandwich. Plates come with two sides...I chose okra and green beans. Everything was very good. Brisket was tender and tasty. Comes with small cups of sauce. Meat is chopped/cut right in front of you. Busy spot for lunch, started clearing out at 1:00. Several desserts to choose from but I was stuffed from the lunch plate!
I have bee going here for 40+ years and have never been disappointed in the food, unless they run out of brisket. The owners have always been the kindest people and staff is all friendly. Stuff fries are a must!
Very friendly customer service. The food was on point. The food prices are a little pricey, but I would say it's worth it with a service that you get along with the great tasting food.
In my 79 years, I have never tasted anything that good and that includes my cooking.I'm pretty good. Definitely we'll be back
I have been coming to Mesquite BBQ since about 1995 or so. While the prices have went up, and the inside of the building has undergone updates and some of the staff has changed, the place remains a family run establishment and the food has been as good now as it was way back. It’s my “comfort food” spot. Almost my “cheers” type place. The brisket is excellent. Huge fan of the manhandler, stuffed fries and stuffed spud. I no longer live near Mesquite, but work there often and have family in the area. Any chance I have, I stop for lunch or stop for meat to bring to my family for dinner that night. I have had a few “off experiences” but generally speaking, it’s SOLID. It’s an excellent place. Try it!
It was wonderful to find this 61-year old institution still serving delicious BBQ. The meat is delicious, without the sauce (the sauce is great tho). Super tender and moist, just as it should be. The staff is fun and friendly, which makes you feel right at home. The photos don't do this place justice. Just stop in and have a bite. You won't regret it. Don't forget dessert.
Food was delicious and excellent service. Staff super friendly and helpful with confused customers. Help with order and suggestions 😊 the cook was silly and fun to talk to.
Just dropped in to see if they had loaded baked potatoes. They did indeed! Had a great conversation with the owner operator and was just completely impressed. Best loaded potatoes we have ever had. Period. And we have had all the “best” around. Recommend this place for bbq for sure! And they are on DoorDash etc. Great place!!!
This is the real deal. Many great bbq places in Texas, but this is a multi-generational restaurant with a great feel and some great contributions to the art and process of bbq. Brisket was stellar and the sides were solid. Walk around and let the walls talk to you and the ask the staff if you have questions.
Super yummy brisket, potato casserole and coleslaw!! Owner is really nice and the whole vibe is authentic. Can’t wait to come again!
Today I visited this restaurant after hearing so much about it, and my experience was truly special. I’m a big fan of smoked brisket, and every bite here was unique and full of flavor. The staff were all incredibly friendly, and the place was spotless with great quality food. If you’re within 100 miles of the area, you should definitely come and try it—it’s worth the trip!
Smoke in the Walls, Family in the Kitchen Since 1959, Mesquite BBQ has been serving its town the kind of barbecue you measure in generations, not just years. From the street, the tall pole sign stands weathered but proud, declaring “Family Owned & Operated Since 1959.” Inside, a Texas Rangers–clad greeter makes you feel like a regular before you even smell the mesquite smoke curling from the pit. The brisket comes thick-sliced with bark “black as a midnight fence post” and a smoke ring “pink as a Hill Country sunset.” Juices glisten, pooling on the plate beside golden, bubbling cheesy potatoes, glossy molasses-rich beans, and thick, buttery Texas toast. The walls are lined with “Best Of” plaques and a grinning wild hog mount, a wink at the legacy built here. The menu boards are simple, straight to the point: plates, sandwiches, sides, and family packs. No gimmicks, no fuss just barbecue done right. Mesquite BBQ isn’t just a restaurant. It’s a living piece of local history, run by a family that’s as much a part of Mesquite as the smoke in its walls
Man I love this place. This weekend I had my sister's Celebration of Life and ordered food from Mesquite BBQ. They DID NOT disappoint!! Not only was the food amazing, the portions were perfect! The service was amazing as well. When I called, I had no idea how much food I would need. After explaining what was going on, the lady was so helpful in figuring out how much I needed and within my budget. It worked out perfectly and even had some left over for dinner the next day. I wish I could remember her name because she was truly awesome! I cant say enough about this place! They made this part of the celebration a breeze! With good food to go with it. Thank you Mesquite BBQ! There's a reason you've been around so long!!
this place is very delicious, came very late to closing and didn’t have many option since they run out for how delicious it is. I got the two meat and two sides. It was very delicious! My husband gotten a baked potato with turkey. I couldn’t get over how delicious it has and the flavor of it.
My husband and I visited this establishment while we were staying in the area. I can not say enough good things about this place! The food was amazing. The brisket was hands-down the best that I have ever had! It literally melted in my mouth. All of the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and efficient. I hope that I get another opportunity to visit the area just so I can eat here again!
Stopped by for the BBQ, stayed for the vibes. As a previous resident of Mesquite, I had never been here so when I was in the area looking for a bite to eat, & saw the reviews, I had to give it a try. This place was giving down home vibes & had a diverse group of fun employees who were happy to help me on my first visit! As any self proclaimed BBQ connoisseur, good bbq is determined by whether it needs sauce or not. Although the best way to determine that, in my opinion is through sliced brisket, I chose a chopped brisket sandwich for this moment. The brisket was so moist, juicy, & flavorful. It needed no sauce. In the time, I sat here, all kinds of kinds came through the door, each welcomed with a smile & "Hows it going?" I see they have "Dino" ribs on Fri/Sat, so I will be back! See y'all next time!
A hometown hero! Delicious BBQ! I have been eating here since the 70’s as a child. It is a Mesquite staple. We recently stopped in when visiting family in the area. Not a thing has changed! I love it! The only disappointment is no fried okra! Ha ha!! The brisket is tender, the baked potato is large and fluffy, the beans and potatoes salad are classic! A must try!
Oooooo baby is this place good. I decided to stop by today to get lunch to go as I was passing by and wanted to support a small family run business. It was take out only due to the outbreak we Americans are facing. They are just 1st class wonderful people and the ham sandwich, beans and casserole were simply breathtaking. I love these small family rum business and this place didn't disappoint. I cannot RECOMMEND this place highly enough and please remember them when you need a bite to eat. The food is wonderful and this is what America is built on is small business. They are great people serving great food and yes for now its take out only but that's OK. Please stop by and see them and I promise you that you will be satisfied with their service and quality of food. Take care to all and be safe!

Outstanding Brisket and Ribs. Nice bark on the brisket, excellent flavor and the ribs were "Finger Licking Good". Our first trip to Mesquite bbq but we'll be back again and again and again.
The service was Excellent. The food was Great. We ate there. Very clean. Lots of Locals eating there.
The Service was Excellent. The food was Great. We ate there. Very clean. Lots of Locals eating there.
BBQ was good. Mac and cheese is delicious. The Cole slaw was lacking. And they carry Pepsi products. I don't know anyone who likes Pepsi. It was difficult to keep the attention of the cashier. She kept talking to a coworker while I was trying to tell her my order. Very rude! The only reason service is still at 4 stars is because of the two employees who put our food together were awesome.
Brisket and turkey were a bit cold. Mac and cheese was creamy but didn’t have the best taste. The staff was amazing. Not sure if I’d return. For 3 plates and 3 drinks it was about $110.
Great big portions for a good price! My wife got the loaded fries and loved them, they even allow for two meats and really loaded it on there. I did the two meat plate with the beans and fries. The only reason for the 4 stars is because we didn’t love the bbq sauce, but that was a personal thing.
A local institution in Mesquite. I had the stuffed fries with Brisket on top. The fries themselves were good. The brisket was tender and tasty. It could have used a touch more smoke for my liking. I also had one of their jalapeño poppers. I might have gotten a not spicy jalapeño pepper as mine could have been spicier for my liking. The atmosphere is top notch, being a historical institution in Mesquite. The history inside alone would have me back. If you're in the area, you should stop by.
Good quality count just forgot the bodies I dug to eat here bud. A grave diggers wood I had to cut to open the mesquite box it old a good nice job!?👍
There was a line so I expected the food to be good. To my surprise, I was given a fatty cut of meat after asking for a lean cut of brisket. The potato salad left a lot to be desired, but the baked beans and baked potato were a hit over all.

Okra no longer on the menu. It was the best anywhere . Brisket not as moist, smokey, or fatty. They gave me 4 slices of bread in the bread bag, no effort until I asked for them toasted. Something is amiss, things are not as they used to be.
The food is okay. I wasn't a fan of the sides they just didn't give me homemade vibes and taste. It is a bit more pricey than at other BBQ restaurants I've tried. You have to ask for pickles and peppers at the register. Nothing is self service. Good customer service from the staff 😁
Mesquite barbecue. While in Texas, right? You would think a place named after the creosote laden scrub tree that powers so many Texas 'cue joints would have a big smoke flavor but no. The brisket was cut from the lean side without asking my preference (strike one), it was dry (strike two) and devoid of smokiness or seasoning (strike 3). It wasn't awful and I ate it all with copius standard barbecue sauce. The sausage tasted store bought with a casing so tough I almost choked to death on it. Maybe I need to sharpen my incisors. The decor is unusual (tiki?) but suitably rustic. The service was fast and friendly. Probably won't try it again. Overall disappointing. ☹️☹️☹️
Mesquite BBQ Since 1959 Review Mesquite BBQ Since 1959 is a family-owned and operated barbecue restaurant in Mesquite, Texas. They have been serving up classic Texas barbecue for over 60 years, and they are known for their moist brisket, smoky ribs, and delicious sides. I recently had the opportunity to try Mesquite BBQ for the first time, and I was overall impressed. I ordered the brisket, ribs, sausage, coleslaw, chorizo beans, and a mesquite roll. The brisket was moist and flavorful, but it was a little overcooked and falling apart. I still enjoyed it, but I would have preferred it to be a little more tender. The ribs were also good, but they were a little overcooked as well. The meat was still juicy, but it was a little too easy to pull off the bone. The sausage was fine, but it wasn't my favorite. It was a little bit too dry for my taste. The coleslaw was good, but it needed something, maybe salt or a little bit of vinegar. The chorizo beans were great, though. They were flavorful and hearty. I also really enjoyed the mesquite roll. It was a jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and herbs, wrapped in bacon. It was the perfect combination of spicy, creamy, and smoky. Overall, I had a good experience at Mesquite BBQ. The food was good, but it wasn't the best barbecue I've ever had. The prices were reasonable, and the service was friendly. I would definitely come back and give it another chance to impress me. Here are some specific things I liked about Mesquite BBQ: The brisket was moist and flavorful, even though it was a little overcooked. The mesquite roll was delicious. It was a unique and flavorful appetizer. The chorizo beans were great. They were flavorful and hearty. The service was friendly. Here are some things I think Mesquite BBQ could improve on: Don't overcook the brisket and ribs. Add more salt or vinegar to the coleslaw. Offer more variety of sausage. Overall, I would give Mesquite BBQ a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It's a good barbecue restaurant, but it's not the best I've ever had. I would definitely come back and give it another chance, though
First time ordering from this establishment I ordered the turkey sandwich with load baked potato and sandwich were a nice size. Plenty slices of turkey between the buns. I decided to try the ssandwich first as I picked the sandwich up I smelled gasoline. I took a small bite . I decided to try the potato 🥔 it was decent. Roughly 5 minutes later I didn't feel well. Went to bed to lie down about 1 minute later I popped up and began to throw up. I am going to throw the sandwich away and hopefully be able to eat the potato another day if the Lord spares my life.
Today was my first time trying Mesquite BBQ, and of course, everyone’s taste buds are different. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me. The brisket was okay, but the ribs were a no-go. They were heavily seasoned with pepper, which completely overpowered the flavor of the meat. I personally prefer a lighter, dry seasoning that lets the meat speak for itself. If you love bold, pepper-heavy or peppercorn-style seasoning, this is probably the place for you. Just not my preference.
Their website says they are open on Monday so I drove 12 miles to get some BBQ. When I arrived they were closed !!!!!!! They need to get their ship together!

We ordered a 2 meat & 3 meat plates w/ potato salad, Mac n cheese, and potatoe casserole. The brisket and ribs were dry and bland, the turkey and chicken were cooked decently but for the total price equaling $80 the food quality doesn’t match up to the cost of the 3-4 thin slices of meat you receive. And food wasn’t cooked with love. Avoid this place, it isn’t recommended to visit the bbq spot because they seem to be more about profits rather than providing great food or service.
Tried it and didn't like it. The brisket was all fat. You couldn't tell what sides they had because they were covered up except coleslaw and potato salad. You should not have to ask what else they have. We have never been to a bbg place that you couldn't see what they had and never been served fat like that before. They didn't even offer a refund after showing them the big portion of fat where brisket was supposed to be. We try different BBQ and this is on our top worst list very dissatisfied!!!!
I've had better BBQ. The food is real greasy and unflavored. The prices are high and portions are small. Their ribs are tough brisket was fatty and their sides were cold (green beans and mashed potatoes). I'll make the 30 minute extra drive for a smokey bbq lathered in sauce so my hands and beard can enjoy the sticky delight. They may have been in business for a long time but don't skimp on the ingredients or quality.
What a disappointment. Watery pulled pork, flavorless mac n cheese and coleslaw. I thought Texas was supposed to have better BBQ than this
