This place has a very open and nice atmosphere. I visited here with a group of friends for dinner and it did not disappoint. Although it isn’t 100% Colombian, the restaurant engages the discussion of authenticity to the best of its capability as a tapas bar in Hells Kitchen. The server was friendly but could be more polite. The drinks and food came out very quickly and it was divine. The octopus in the tostones rellenos were divine and so was the sangria! I went back for a second time and had the vegan burger and fries. The fries were fried very well and whatever the sauce is on that burger - amazing. I also tried the rice and red beans - that was the best rice and beans was very smooth and filling and I think it is one of my favourite items on the menu.

My husband and I are visiting from Texas and we came upon this absolute gem on Google. Glad we made the walk here - a perfect place to grab a table on Saturday night. Service 10/10: Super nice, helpful and provide recommendations. Extremely polite! Food 10/10: The quality of food was superb and the price was great! I loved the empanadas, and the tostones - yum. Not super greasy. Clean ingredients. Utterly delicious. Drinks 10/10: We had the fruit juices and had to get another for the road. We'll be back for sure when we are back in NYC! This is an honest review, not at all sponsored. It really made my husband's and my night.

We come to the city almost every other weekend, looking for some good food in a sit down seating we found El Cartel Tapas Bar & restaurant the appetizers and the Entrees were super delicious. Place is super clean, nice atmosphere super chill and nice music! Definitely will come back. I have to mention the service top notch 👍🏽

Awesome food here! The two of us shared the picada el cartel - oh man, the portion was big enough to feed 4 people. It came with plenty of meats and crispy tostones. We ended up saving the leftovers, and the meal tasted just as good after reheating it. The place is spacious and the service was adequate. Free dessert when checking in on Yelp!

Highly recommend. We loved this wonderful gem. We were a little full, but since we’re only visiting New York we wanted to try Colombian food since I’m from there. We were left highly impressed, the vibe is so nice and the service was exemplary. The food was delicious, the Colombian juices were yum and the coco flan made in house was a perfect ending to our experience. We will definitely be back when we’re in NYC.

It's new and they've paid attention to detail. I had the passion fruit margarita 🍹 and you can taste the passion fruit. The food was great proportion and we were celebrating a birthday for which they went all out by dressing up and bringing the birthday boy a typical Colombian hat and sing him happy birthday. We had a blast and everyone in our party really enjoyed the music, the food, the atmosphere and the great service! Worth the money!

Run do not walk to this fantastic tapas bar and restaurant with authentic food and music. Their frozen sangria is perfect for hot summer nights. Saturday and Sunday brunch featuring Cali Sabor Banda live music is not to be missed. Staff is friendly and owners obviously invested their heart into creating this spot. They deserve support. A hidden gem in the heart of Midtown.

Insanely delicious! Tried chuzos (skewers), tostones (corn cups filled with shredded beef), cazuela de mariscos (seafood casserole), churrascos (skirt steak with chimichuri sauce) - all were super flavorful and perfectly timed! Not a single item could be improved - we also had figs for dessert (a combination of pickled figs with dolce lèche and cheese drizzled in honey sauce ). Interesting (in good way) blend of flavors and I’d love to have again! The meal was topped with frozen and regular sangria that was perfect! Will definitely bring people back here to try this jewel in HK!

“I recently visited the Colombian restaurant in New York and had an amazing time! The food was delicious, with standout dishes like the empanadas and bandeja paisa. The cocktails were also top-notch - I especially loved the mojitos made with Colombian rum. And the music really brought the whole experience together. The service was friendly and attentive, and the overall atmosphere was fun and lively. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great Colombian food, drinks, and music in New York!

Had colombian friends visiting from Texas and was looking for a taste from home, this place popped up and gotta say did not disappoint! Our server recommended the empanadas and chuzos for appetizers and they were flavor packed, we absolutely loved them, I had the fried fish and for some reason made me think of vacations. And finally my favorite thing on the menu, frozen white sangrias which I named La Deja Maridos. Great ambiance and delicious food, will definitely be back!

Let me start off by saying, wow! As soon as you get close to the restaurant you hear salsa playing from the front entrance and you feel as if you’re in Colombia. You walk in and the atmosphere is that of welcoming and fun. The music and the decoration is both authentic and modern. On your left you have a huge bar with 7 tvs. The back is packed with two living rooms and a service bar with 4 more tvs. The food is 100% Colombian. The Bandeja El Cartel is absolutely perfect. The beans and steak seasoning is like being in Colombia and eating there. Absolutely delicious. The drinks were perfect. I highly encourage everyone to come try this new spot right smack in the theater district. Just two blocks from Times Square.

I came with Teo of my friends for drinks after a disappointing dinner. The bar tender is super friendly, and hospitable. The drinks are very tasty and the music was good. We had empanadas and they were good. Can’t comment on Anything else as all we had was drinks. But I would definitely come back

Visited this gem last week and enjoyed the authentic colombian flavor El Cartel had to offer. Great service from the staff! Started with a FROZEN sangria, one of the best ever. My husband and i enjoyed the ceviche as the appetizer, this was an original Colombian recipe. My favorite dish was the pechuga buenaventura - this grilled chicken dish with the creamy seafood was by far the best! Can’t wait to visit El Cartel again!!

A

What a great welcome from this unassuming restaurant in Midtown close to the Garment District in NYC. But the food, wow, it certainly exceeded expectations with its Colombian food! The burgers were outstanding - tender and tasty with a Colombian twist and the crispy fries were to die for. A great selection of Tapas including a Colombian fish stew, excellent empanadas, shrimp ceviche and Tostones Rellenos. Vegan alternatives were available. Desserts were exceptional including Tres Leches, Fried Cheese with guava sauce and figs stuffed with cheese. All served charmingly along with a good range of wines, beers and cocktails and fantastic fruit smoothies. Just try it!

Have been coming in since the doors opened. Great addition to the Hell's Kitchen food scene. Always clean and with a fun vibe. Food choices are on point and even vegan-friendly options (which is not usual in a Latin American restaurant). Love the empanadas, the arepas and several of the entrees. Steak is great; arroz con pollo superb and the fried red snapper always perfectly made. The best tostones (fried plantains) and fantastic rice & beans. Been happy with all our options. Great bar and wines too. Thanks for another lovely evening...

For a place that's been open for only 4 months since this posting this place is really good. It's got a really nice atmosphere. The lighting is soft, the pictures are nice and the music is pleasant. It's not so loud that you can't hear what the person across the table from you is saying. Our server Andras was knowledgeable and answered all our questions about the dishes we ordered. I had the Bendeja El Cartel. It's got several different meats which any meat lover can appreciate. My friend had the El Cartel Burger (veggie option). The drinks we had were good too. And the menu isn't bloated which can make selecting your meal easy. As for price it's medium but not too crazy for a place located in Hell's Kitchen. Overall I'm pretty happy with my first experience of Colombian aside from the 4% extra credit card charge which I only noticed on my receipt after I paid and was putting in the tip.

My husband and I had a date night, randomly chose this place. The food was better then the deliciousness noted on the menu! Cheers! Go enjoy this place

Very nice and friendly staff. Great atmosphere and relaxing service. Service was a bit slow but we did arrive late into the night. Awesome vegan options / alternatives. Reasonably priced for the quality (:

K
Katherine Henzler

Most of the food was good—the drinks were terrible. Like really bad: wine (vinegary), mixed drinks: nooo. Safest bet: grab a beer. The people are great and so nice, but it took our party 3 hours (no seriously three hours) to dine here as a large group and the music is way too loud.

J

Eat the most delicious shrimp ceviches that I’ve ever had (I’ve had many). We also ordered the Picada El Cartel which could have had more meat. The service could have been better given we were the only ones there.

P

Good service. Nice ambiance. Imitation crab in the seafood entrees was disappointing, we expect to pay NyC prices but expect it to be worth it. Would’ve never thought to eat something you can cook at home. Not sure if I would come back.

When arrived to the establishment it was empty but it was reserved seats and it didn’t matter that I made a reservation and was late because I couldn’t sit where I want . Beautiful decor and clean in the front and nice musica. The bartender / waitress made great drinks , however he lacked customer service skills and seems as if he didn’t want to be there . He also told me that there was no hot water to put my utensils in . Which is not a good look to tell a buying customer you have no hot water and you serve food . The food came very quick ; water too. Which was a shock to me but no longer a shock when I learned the food was lacking flavor; especially in the steak and chicken . The chicken also seemed as if it could been cooked 5-10 more mins . The other fried items was good and cooked well . Maybe I will try there wings in the future but will not get a full course meal again . Encourage you the drinks because it’s what saved the night after all . It was a nice guy there Who understood my concerns so their is hope for this place and me coming back .

M
Muzik

Let me just start by saying the food was great, what I didn't like about this place was forcing a tip amount on me ,tips should be what I want it to be not forced on me ...$78 for two dinks and a burger and two empanadas is ridiculous and I won't be going back to this place ever

J
Jason Herron

Got the $50 tapas - a boat full of mystery meat, all of it dry. El Cartel burger was $18 and basically inedible. I should have known because the burger meat in Colombia is always nasty too. Ceviche was the only decent thing we had.

J
Joseph Perisie

I thought I'd try someplace new in the neighborhood but found this actually to be disappointing. Got the pineapple chicken and my chicken was so tough and overcooked as was my niece's chueleta, again somebody tonight in the kitchen was just overcooking the meats. Beef empanada filling was mediocre at best with little flavor. They were very few people in the restaurant in the neighborhood where restaurants are filled every evening so to me that was another sign that perhaps I may not have chosen a great new restaurant to try.

P
Pamela Castro

The environment is really nice and the service too. We ordered fresh juices, they were really delicious but we were so disappointed with the food, it took 50 min for an order of arepas (which were very salty) and the mash potato was so bad, no consistency at all. Very sad.. because we were so excited to find a Colombian restaurant in the area but the experience was not as we expected. We were about to leave before the food arrived because the wait was too long… no idea why I didn’t do it and currasco price vs quality.. 👎🏼

C
Christoph Hauser

Food never arrived. Really did not like their wine selection. After waiting an hour for food we paid and left without eating.

H
Himelda Martinez

Extremely loud music and for that reason people come in look around and leave. The food seems good but with such loud speakers its impossible to sit there for more than one minute. Is there a secret reason behind the loud music? Do the owners want an empty Cartel?

K
Krystle Gautreau

Ate at the bar. Asked multiple questions to the bartender as I have a gluten allergy (celiac). Get the arepa plate, take one bite & it’s fried which wasn’t visible due to lighting. Arepas aren’t usually fried anyway. Experienced allergic reaction. They replaced the plate but my stomach was too messed up to even eat it. Spoke to manager. Get the bill & was overcharged for a plate I didn’t order. Had to get a refund & re-charge for what I did order. They sort of tried AFTER the fact but I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND, especially if you have allergies. Note: if someone states they have an allergy, take it serious. If you don’t know, ask someone who can provide information to guest.

S

Not sure how the good reviews were created to be honest. I just want to leave one honest review so that other people don’t get misled. We came because of the great reviews, but man it was a let down. There is no veggie on the entire menu, the food are mostly fried and dry, my jaw hurt after a while. The ceviche was covered with seemingly creamy pink sauce I couldn’t tell what it was. will not come back.

This place is hardly ever busy. Now I see why. After eating here at least once a week for the past month with no qualms to the contrary, I was refused happy hour prices because I “didn’t sit at the bar.” I was seated at a table right next to the bar, but that apparently renders you ineligible for happy hour. If that truly is the case, even though it hasn’t been the past four times I have eaten there, perhaps the restaurant should be more clear when seating patrons about happy hour eligibility. I won’t be back.

Carnes y Pescados: Sabores Robustos y Frescos

  • Aguacate: Siempre presente, aportando frescura y cremosidad.

Postres Tradicionales: El Dulce Final
