We were in Middletown, CT., a few days ago and thought we’d catch a bite at the Athenian II Diner Restaurant. Even though they offer a great selection of Greek, Italian and American dishes, we opted for breakfast which is served at anytime during the day. We enjoyed a hearty, homestyle meal that hit the spot from start to finish! Expect generous portions, decent prices and fantastic service. Our Server, Rosana, was warm, friendly and very welcoming. —She made us feel right at home which was truly appreciated after a long day on the road. As a service professional, she made sure that our dining experience was a good one; and we appreciated that as well. As an aside in this review, I’d also like to mention that the restaurant has a nice, relaxed vibe. …And it was really nice to see, who we learned, is the restaurant owner, John Daoutis, taking time up front to greet new customers and their regular guest. With this kind of devotion, it’s no wonder that this family owned business is nearing 30 years of providing great food and service! Yes, we definitely recommend the Athenian II and plan to visit again when we’re in the area. PS. Slices of Strawberry and Raspberry Cheesecakes To-Go was excellent too!

I reccomend this place to everyone. Great food at a great price. I love their cheeseburgers and kids get a free dessert. This is my favorite restaurant. If you are looking for a family friendly restaurant, you should go to the Athenian Diner! I set my heart on sinking my teeth into a big, juicy, cheese burger. And plus, their stuffed clams are the best I've ever tasted... in the world! Well, one thing is for sure - I don't know their recipe..but all I know is that their main ingredient is love! I'm so delighted to hear that they are open for take-out and dine-in. I would rate 10 stars if I had the option to do that. I can't express this enough, I love this place so much!!!! So glad that you can DINE IN! ❤❤❤❤

Eaten here many times. The food is good. They have lunch specials like half sandwich and soup and includes coffee or tea. And lunch mini dinners like pot roast and Meatloaf, among others. Dinners are pricier but tasty. Typical breakfast items, including eggs, pancakes, muffins, etc. The food is good. The service is OK, but when busy, service could be slow. Free parking and open long hours. They have great desserts like chocolate cake, carrot cake, pies, etc Good diner to visit when you want something quick (when not busy), and for dessert and coffee.

It was good, they don’t have Italian toast , potatoes are very plain tastes like boiled potatoes on a plate it’s hard to find good home fries the eggs Benedict was perfect , the omelette was cooked light like I asked I would definitely come back .. our food was out super fast and friendly service

I don’t know why this restaurant can take so long to make a not really freshly prepared food 🥲 The waitress is kind but she seemed really busy so we couldn’t find a chance to ask for water and sauce until we finish our food But the place was really cool!

Always saw lots of car’s parking outside of this restaurant, today decided to pay it a visit. It turned out a good experience. We arrived at 10am on a Saturday morning. Though there were two groups in front of us, we were quickly seated. It was spacious inside. The service was quick and attentive. We ordered Greek omelette and pancakes sampler. The both were delicious and in good portion, and reasonably priced. The coffee was a bit too light though. I like a stronger flavored coffee. Also the cup is too small. Although the coffee had unlimited refill and the waitress was sweet to refill my cup, I wished the cup would be bigger so that I did not have to ask for multiple times for refill. Will come back to try their dinner some day.

Diner was located in a very prime location in middletown. The atmosphere of the place was good. The waitress were really polite. Our waitress Alexander was very sweet. We ordered the chicken parm , we got a hair but they immediately took it and replaced it with a new meal. Also ordered the avacado salad with the salmon Which was well done per request. For dessert we tried the Canoli which was good too. Had a good experience.

Always a great local spot for breakfast or something heavier. A good friend of mine lives nearby so I’m here every couple of months. The diner has plenty of breakfast options, mimosas, and practically everything else under the sun that you could expect a diner to have. Be wary as it can be quite crowded on weekend mornings and the parking lot can fill up rather quickly as well. I have a feeling I will be back

Foods good, but be careful…. They are sneaky when it comes to charging you / over charging certain people. They’ve done it to myself and others. They like to pick and choose and discriminate certain customers thinking we won’t know.

Got the Gyro platter for lunch and it came with out the lettuce and yogurt sauce. Then got the strawberry cheese cake to go and found an eggshell in it.

I ordered the Athenian. omelette. The meat tasted old and cheap and the omelette dry and cold. I complained and the owner said that he will take it off the bill which my bill was $12 and when I get to the register, he says he’ll just charge me nine dollars so how that taking an omelette off my bill he only knocked off three bucks? Their food is terrible IMO…they give you alit but it’s not good. The server was great though.

Been coming to this diner for the past 2 decades. Absolutely done. This year they really tested me. Changing prices, I’ll be told a different price by 2 different people and then looked at like I’m the crazy one. They do not treat loyal customers with respect. That’s for the owners and managers. The waitresses there are fantastic and always sweet and deserve to be tipped more. And the food I get is always delicious I always want more hats off to the chef.
