This is a tricky review for me because there are so many layers. I was finally able to try the Midland legendary BBQ joint- KD’s Let’s start with the location and overall atmosphere of the restaurant. KDs is not very conveniently located off of I-20 and Garden city Hwy. I mean, it’s not like it is an hour from midland but rather you will need to contend with oilfield traffic at a really busy intersection. But this isn’t a big deal for me. Their building is old…. But COOOL. I loved their interior and decorations. It screams BBQ! When you enter you walk up a ramp to the meat Lady. She tells you the prices as you are staring at a schmorgisboard of perfectly smoked meats. HOLY MOoooLY. I went with brisket and two ribs. The next step is you go to a weighing machine as a different nice lady weighs it for you. Then you move down the line for the beans and slaw and to pay. After paying and finding a seat they have a nice little sauce bar stocked with 4 really good flavors of bbq sauce and extras like pickles, peppers, and bread. Lets get to the meat of the matter…. The MEAT. It was fabulous. The brisket was cut with my fork. It had a nice bark on it and very very juicy. The rib wasn’t fall off the bone tender but tender nonetheless. It had a nice subtle flavoring. Definitely some of the best bbq I’ve had in Texas. Now for the only thing that may be a sticking point to folks. The price. This probably is a little too rich of a place for most of us to go once a week. I spent 40 dollars before tip. Granted I had a lot of food. But I would say to estimate 25-50 dollars a person when you go. Remember how I said the meat lady was telling prices as I was staring at the meat? Pay attention to her words!! Haha. I’ll definitely be back. Was a wonderful experience!!! Brisket for the friggin win.

What a spot... What a town! I don't know what's going on with Midland. My brother and I were rolling through on a road trip (#BPN2026) and had a hankering for some BBQ. This was the second place we stopped, and found it after rolling through town. The town reminded me of Erie, IN (iykyk), and that theme kind of continued here. Cool, southern feeling concept where you go through a cafeteria line and serve serve, besides meats. Food was more on the solid side, ambiance was on point. There weren't a lot of people there when we went (a Wednesday...?), but the vibe remained. We enjoyed our meal, decent service, and decided that was enough of that. Left Midland as quickly as we could, bellies full and satisfied. #thankyou

I had a great experience. Brisket was smoked perfect, i got a tray of a little bit of everything just to taste. Entrance is on the side of the building, I walked in the exit. Pay by the pound of food on your tray. It is a little pricey, but I expect that being in Midland.

**READ THIS IF YOU WANT A DETAILED DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE FOOD AND EXPERIENCE** First things first, just know this place is pretty pricey BUT you definitely get what your paying for. When you enter, someone who works there will direct you to grab a tray with parchment paper. There you will be introduced to a lady or gentleman who will ask what cuts of meat you would like. It’s priced by the pound so don’t go over board. If your looking for flavor and a little heat. This will definitely be your go too place. I’ll put it this way; If I lived here, this would definitely be my go to place for some BBQ with some family or friends. Brisket was so tender I could cut it with a fork, rib meat fell right off the bone and the spicy sausage I had was both juicy and flavorful. They had a wide verity of options to choose from but these were my 3 choices. We also had a side of brisket beans with our order which does cost extra. 3.50$ for a large or 1.79 for a small. Once your done paying you get to choose a table that suits you and your families space. They have an island in the middle where you get to pick your sauce, bread and some additional sides. There is a waiter who consistently checks on you and make sure your cup is always full which was great. As I stated, will you pay a lot? Yes, but will you get your worth? I certainly thought so. If your looking for cheap with no flavor. Try McDonald’s or other fast food restaurants. If you want homemade, slow cooked and smoked meats. I encourage you to stop by.

Brisket was Subpar....Nice bark but really no flavor. The ribs are the best I ever had. The potato salad was ice cold. Staff was amazing and the atmosphere was great

1 st time in. Was not impressed. It is like a inline buffet. Brisket was dry and ribs were not fall off the bone. Sides are serve yourself in optional sized styrofoam cups. Condiments are available at another station. Your pay by the lb for meat and sides are extra too. Condiments are not charged for and minimal as well.

If you’re ever in Midland and craving authentic Texas BBQ, KD’s Bar-B-Q is the spot to hit. The brisket and sausage were absolutely spot-on—smoky, juicy, and full of flavor. Each bite had that perfect balance of tenderness and bark, and the sausage had just the right amount of snap and seasoning. The sweet tea? Texas perfection—refreshing and not overly sweet, exactly how it should be. While the meat and tea stood out as highlights, the potato salad didn’t quite hit the mark. It felt a bit underwhelming compared to the rest of the meal, lacking the boldness or texture you’d expect alongside such stellar proteins. That said, the overall experience was great. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in town.

Did this place change ownership? Its very sad inside. I came here 5 years ago doing a cross country trip. Big happy boy treated me like fam the moment I walked in and the food was amazing. Music was loud and lots of people inside eating. I also remember all the items are included with your purchase off food. Now everything has a fee plus over priced. I am not coming back this make me sad. The ribs were chewy and the brisket was not soft at all.

Decent barbecue, very expensive, paid $30 for two links and three ribs, definitely overpriced, will not be back... I'm assuming they're able to charge this as there is no competition around... The small side was an additional 6.50... but apparently it's super small so most go with the large for 7.00... 😂

Dry Dry Dry. I usually come through midland early, back through pretty late. Finally hit it around lunch and decided to give it a shot. Ribs were tough, Dry and flavorless. Brisket was Dry, tasted a but like lighter fluid and zero seasoning. Sausage was decent - hard to screw up ben e Keith heat & eat links. Grossly overpriced, Ive definitely had better bbq at gas stations. Do yourself a favor and stay on the interstate. Podys in pecos or bucks in Sweetwater are not that far, and you'll get a good meal with good service at a reasonable price.

I'll be honest I have super mixed feelings about what I attempted to enjoy for lunch. I had both flavors of ribs, a slice of brisket, a regular sausage link, chopped brisket as well as some potato salad and a piece of corn The ribs were not bad at all. Now let's roll over to the brisket I don't know who smoked it but they obviously didn't observe what color smoke was going on while it was being smoked so it was was just an all around bad taste for the sliced and chipped brisket. The sausage link was also undesirable and just not a pleasant taste or texture. The picture I took the food looks amazing but the taste just wasn't good. Love the atmosphere
