Best restaurant in Milford! Great food, great service and an amazing selection of beers.
After moving in and trying some of the local spots, Bar Louis has quickly become one of our favorites in the area! We never leave unsatisfied - great food, great drinks, great ambiance, and of course great people!
Check this place out. The menu is excellent. Food well prepared. The Halibut is excellent. The duck was flavorful but bit chewy. The guy in the picture is Bob, the bartender and manager. He is a local with a million stories to tell you about the history of the hotel, Bar Louis and the local area. He will tell you why the area residents of the 1960s were not President John Kennedy fans, the reservoir that was planned for the area, etc, etc. Also restaurant has a great collection of Andy Warhol photos taken by Warhol's photographer. Apparently the ownwr of the place has some connection to the Warhol family. The one with John Lennon, only 3 copies exist. One here one in Pittsburgh at Warhol's museum and another somewhere else. Homemade ice cream. Make sure you talk to Bob. He us happy to tell you his story and the history of the pkace and the area.
I ordered Roasted chicken and it was great! Service was excellent! I would definitely visit again.
Best burger I’ve had in a while, escargot was great too. Katherine is the best bartender in town! Will definitely come back when I am in Milford again
Absolutely loved this place and will be back. My husband was in heaven with the Beatles music playing. The bartender was above par. We had the sushi pizza and it was delicious. The bar seats were so comfortable we didn't want to get up! Will be back.

Fantastic! Escargot, French Onion soup, steak and martinis were all fabulous. Terrific ambiance--what a cozy retro room in the old speak easy. We stayed for hours on our anniversary. Never felt rushed. Delightful eve. Bob, the bartender, is superbly wonderful and talented. He is why BL isour first choice.
After kayaking, I decided to go to bar Louie to see Bob who is normally working behind the bar. However, I heard Bob was under the weather and will be out for a while, and I want to wish him all the best and a speedy recovery. I met Jenn who is the new manager and filling in for Bob and Skyler who is the server that is aspiring to be a bartender while studying environmental science. I decided to order the sushi pizza. It’s a favorite of mine and the pork and beans because why not give it a try . The sushi pizza came out with an extra crispy base which I’ve never had before at this particular establishment and I have to say I really liked it. It was the perfect platform for the sushi and the sauce. Taking a bite I would hear the crunch and feel the texture on my tongue and it complimented the sushi. I hope they make it this way all the time. The pork and beans with some thing that I’ve never experienced wall in France and since this is a French based menu, I thought why not. It’s a sick cut of pork belly, which has a lot of fat in it but the base layer of meat was cooked to perfection and there was a middle layer that was very tasty as well that you must cut out once you cut that out and you have the crispy skin from the top and you mix it with the beans in the onions and that sweet tangy sauce that they have it was very impressive. Being an old, crusty military person I’ve eaten plenty of pork and beans in my life, and this was by far the most flavorful. As I stated earlier in this review, I had kayaked earlier in the day and just so you know, I did 10 miles. So I rewarded myself with dessert. Gary the general manager of the entire establishment was behind the bar and made me a smoked apple the old fashion with some special ingredients that I can’t remember. As part of my dessert, I had an apple tart that’s not the name, but that’s all I can recall and impaired really well with Gary’s Apple old fashion. All I can say is, I’ll be there next Thursday because I found out tonight Thursday is lobster night. I would highly encourage people to go and give it a try and the food was very tasty. The evening was entertaining as I got to speak to Jenn, Skyler and Gary and I even met some people from Philly that were visiting and even though they’re Eagles fans, they were still fun to talk with.
Great atmosphere, food is very good although I really miss the crispy potato’s that are no longer on the menu but was so amazing that had us coming back. The drinks in my opinion for what they charge needs improvement. They are good but not to the par of the prices they charge. Im expecting drinks better than what I can make at home at those prices.
Being filipino, I had to try the taco tagalog, which was pork adobo w. rice, and it was okay. It was too dry due to the amount of rice and double taco, but when I got to the por adobo, it was very tasty. Also had the fresh mozzarella wrapped with prosciutto and sprinkled w. sundried tomatoes, and that was AMAZING!! The main entre was the wagyu steak w. pached egg and potatoes, and it was okay. Our waitress was really friendly and patient, along with the rest of the staff.
What a cozy little place in Mildford! We were road-tripping around Pennsylvania and found this little gem at the Hotel Fauchere. The food was delicious and very fresh. I had the chicken sandwich- it came as a very crispy yet juicy chicken breast with crunchy pickles! I had the French fries as a side and they were so unique: crispy on the outside and very puréed on the inside, salted to perfection! Service a little slow; no one filled our glasses with the remaining wine (we had a bottle of rosé - La Vie on Rose), although it was not particularly busy. Very sweet and welcoming regardless. Would love to come back!
They open at 4:30 and we got there at 4:35 but the doors were locked. We were let in at 4:50 with an apology that the Chef does not use a clock. The dining room is nice/trendy but very cold temperature wise. We got the Charcuterie board as an appetizer which was good and the French onion soup which was also good but the apple in the soup did over shadow the onion flavor. My wife got the roasted chicken which was lacking in flavor and was nothing special for a place with such a limited menu and higher prices than average. I ordered the Burger medium rare with truffle oil on the fries and a side of mayo. My burger was served with no truffle oil, no side of mayo and Raw not even rare. I ate 1/2 my burger the most I felt I could eat without being sick. When the waitress came to see if we wanted desert I mentioned the burger and she said she can see its raw. I was nice and asked if she could just mention in the kitchen that someone needs to learn how to cook a burger to temp. I got the bill no discount and no apology for serving the raw burger that 1/2 of went into the trash. Which is fine I did not ask for anything but I also know what I would do being a business owner myself for the last 35 years.
Great vibe in the basement, nice grounds in a beautiful hotel. We had fun. On the other hand, my $50 steak was covered in sauce and cut in half. At best, a $25 dish at a diner. Bartender made me an old fashioned that tasted like gas station $5 liquors and water. If I ordered a few beers and a sandwich I likely would have had an outstanding time. Not going back for the restaurant, but will go back for the hotel.
We were the only diners on a Saturday night. That should have been a warning. The staff were perfectly competent, but their performance suffered from the mismanagement of the restaurant. They were forced to apologize when our first 2 wine choices were unavailable. Our third, the organic Primitivo, was excellent, but they were embarrassed not to have been told that the other two were not in stock. My roast chicken dinner was fine. The celeriac puree, bravo. Mushy vegetables, ok. The escargots were the only "French" part of our meal, but the "butter" was of such poor quality that they were not worth eating. That may be because of budget constraints, but then don't serve escargot. The halibut was frozen. Need we say more? Not inedible, but so, so disappointing. This was the reason we chose to eat there. The accompanying sides were unremarkable. Except for the photographs, why would you eat down here in this soulless basement? It looks like the cafeteria breakfast room in an inexpensive Italian hotel, but without bright lights. This space would make a great after-hours nightclub or speakeasy. Why would you not serve dinner upstairs in the historic dining area? That space is beautiful! The advertising is flawless. The result is a total disappointment. We tipped well because we felt bad for the waitress.
By far the worst service I’ve ever had in my life. We waited for 10 minutes to be seated, and noticed as we ate that this was standard even for people with reservations. There is seemingly 1 working staff for the entire restaurant on a Saturday night. We were served appetizers before cocktails, and when served cocktails one was spilled on one of the people in my group. 15 minutes later the same staff spilled another drink on someone else… 2 of the 4 main courses were brought 7-8 minutes before the other two (they got cold), and when we made sure we got the right order, the waiter did not know what the food they were serving was??? All of the service happens in slow motion generally speaking, considering we spent 2h30 minutes for 3 courses. A real shame given the food is good, the ingredients are great and the ambiance of the place is fantastic. I would never come back here unless there was a radical change in service and management…
I've been coming here for 15 plus years and tonight will be my last time. The prices have increased as portions and quality drastically decreased the last couple of years. Tonight was the final straw. We ordered a couple of glasses of wine from what has become a very mediicre wine list while looking at the menu. I was utterly confused when the server delivered what appeared to be 2 port wines. I asked the server and she replied that the new ownerships policy is 4oz wine pours. The wine we ordered sells locally for 16 bucks which means they are making a 500% markup on very basic wine. The server was very apologetic and told us they've been through 3 managers in the last year. We stressed to her that we understood it's not her fault but we decided not to order anything else and we will not be back. Very poor ownership and a sad ending to what was a fine establishment.
If I could put zero stars, I would. I have never had to write a bad review but I have never left a restaurant feeling more uncomfortable. The man who was “in charge” of the restaurant, unsure if he was the owner or manager, was drunk and kept talking incessantly close to my ear. You could smell the alcohol on his breath. I tried ending the conversation but he was persistent. The bartender, who made the worst espresso martini I’ve ever seen, seemed to be unaware of what was happening, or he just didn’t care. I came here over the summer and had a pleasant experience, and the drinks were good from a different bartender, but this visit really turned me off. I ended up leaving after a half hour and will never be returning to Bar Louis again. Apparently he does this often to bar guests. This establishment should do better in guest experiences.
WENT THERE FOR MY BIRTHDAY AND WAS IGNORED FOR OVER A HALF HOUR!!!! I love this place and normally have had a great experience. My husband made a 7:15 reservation on a Saturday for my 40th birthday. We were on time and seated promptly by the hostess. And then nothing!!! We waited for 35 minutes for someone to come offer us drinks, take our order, maybe even open the bottle of water on the table for us? NOTHING. And I completely understand being busy on a Saturday and normally wouldn't be so upset. But we were looked at by all 3 waiters and still not one person came over to talk to us. We were intentionally ignored. And to watch a man get seated at the tabled next to us after we had been waiting for 10 minutes with no one checking on us and he immediately got service, a bottle of wine and his order taken. I guess "regulars" get special treatment at this establishment. I will be telling everyone I know about this experience. It's one thing to be busy but it is another thing entirely to ignore people waiting patiently to be acknowledged. Absolutely horrible!!!!!!!!!
I had high expectations when visiting this restaurant for the first time. While the atmosphere was pleasant and the service generally friendly, the overall dining experience was extremely disappointing. Our group of four ordered a variety of dishes, including the halibut, steak, chicken, and pork, and unfortunately, none met the standard we anticipated. The quality and flavor of the food were well below expectations. We also tried the oysters, which were poorly prepared and improperly shucked—easily the worst I’ve ever had. Although our server was kind, the level of professionalism could have been improved. Given that the total bill exceeded $475 for four people, the experience did not reflect the price point. Sadly, we won’t be returning. Lesson learned.
Sophia’s service was fantastic. The food was not. They ran out of half of their entrees; and replaced their steak with something made of plastic. My advice? Please just take the meat off the menu entirely, instead of serving some base sewer quality steak. Glue was the mains ingredient in this entree. For dessert? My ice cream was served half melted. But maybe I am being too harsh…
