Came here with my wife and another couple. We came here during the soft opening, it wasn’t too busy but got served immediately. I can tell our waitress was new to the restaurant game but gave excellent customer service. We order a boat and two special rolls. The rolls were thick and the sashimi were also as thick. The sashimi did not give off a fishy taste or smell. The food and price was fair and the food came out in a timely manner. The decor is nice, a good place to take on a first date without breaking the bank. I would like to come back during the grand opening (December 14) to update my review. Follow to see the update.
We celebrated my daughter’s 11th birthday at Shisho last night with a party of 19, and it was such a great experience. We did have about a 30-minute wait to be seated, which I’m assuming was due to how busy it was, but once we were seated, everything was worth it. Our chef, Leon, was absolutely amazing 10/10 across the board! He was entertaining from start to finish, engaging both the kids and adults, and especially making the birthday girl feel special. His energy, personality, and vibe made the entire experience unforgettable. Leon went above and beyond, making sure everyone’s orders were exactly how they wanted extra veggies, no shrimp, special requests he didn’t miss a thing. The food was delicious, and the entertainment was top-tier. We ended up staying for 2–3 hours, but time flew by because Leon kept us laughing and engaged the entire cook. Overall, we had an amazing time, and I will definitely be back probably as soon as next week! I’ll be requesting Leon specifically because he truly made our night special. Highly recommend!
Nice! Quiet ambience and I qualify that as long as you're not over at the hibachi grill which they have a lot of fun over there. But we just had dinner at a table, a service and the food was delicious.
Absolutely awesome!!! I was completely surprised at how amazingly the food was displayed! It looked like a form of art!!! Beautifully delicious and prepared in a stunningly timely manner. Proportioned very well! Our plates were finished clean and our stomachs were stuffed! I will definitely be returning! ❤️
Great food and decent beer options. There is a nice porter from Iceland. I had the sushi the first time and hibachi chicken on the way back through. Both are good and come with miso soup and a salad with a nice dressing. It also came with a good sized fried rice. I was full after the meal both times. If I go back through Mobile for another job I will eat here again. It’s also right next to the Hampton Inn where we stayed.
My daughter Anniston celebrated her 16th birthday there. The staff was very accommodating from the manager Judy down to our server and chef. Big Thanks to Chef Miguel he was awesome!!!! He was very entertaining to the guests of 16yrs old that attended, which is very challenging to do these days lol. He kept the smiles and laughs going. He made my daughter feel very special! Thank you Chef!! And the food was delicious as well!!😋❤️
Our Hibachi chef, Fendi, was amazing! He cooked amazing food and continually interacted with our family. He was hilarious and fun. He shared about growing up in Indonesia and asked our kids about growing up in different states. Fendi truly made out hibachi experience amazing and memorable. I've honestly gotten tired of Hibachi because it just feels like the same old show every time and chefs usually feel like they are just putting on an act. Fendi however made it so fresh and new and was genuinely interacting with everyone. I've never had so much fun at a Hibachi and we loveFendi! We are definitely coming back and specifically reserving with him!
Fantastic! Got the love boat for 3 (for three people) and it was plenty of food. Surprisingly good quality sushi. Just didn’t expect it from Mobile, AL. Everything tasted fresh. With a few drinks between the three of us we each paid ~$50. Worth it.
Today was my Birthday. I had a Reservation for a party of 24 people. We had just arrived after a peak time rush and the host was very nice she explained to us how she was getting the tables cleaned even though they were short staffed today. Our server Ben was so kind and hardworking. His customer service was awesome! Our chef was Fendi. He kept us laughing and entertained. The food was delicious and all of my friends and family enjoyed their meal there. 10/10 highly recommended. We will be back! Thank you Shiso!
This was definitely a different sushi experience. I hear business is slow, so this is the place to go. With a quiet atmosphere, quick polite service and comparable sushi prices- this place will be seeing me again! With Savannah as our waitress, you can’t go wrong! She is polite and attentive. The food has excellent presentation, and tastes fantastic. They will also give you a hot towel at the end of your meal. Very classy and romantic place to go!!
I went here with my sister and everything was great. I enjoyed eating here with my family, good atmosphere, great food and just a great experience. I ordered a chicken dish and am not sure what everyone else ordered, but the portions were a good size. Everything had flavor and different options for everyone. The fried vegetables were actually pretty good. The foods that needed to be hot were hot, and the cold foods were cold. The service was great. Anything we needed, the server got us in a decent time. The price of food wasn't too bad either. I would definitely come here again. Bathrooms- clean Services-fast Kid friendly - yes Items on the menu - $13 and up Atmosphere 7 out of 10 Would recommend
It was honestly just really impressive. Me and my wife went in for Saturday at lunch and the table was clean and lighting dim. The sushi was really good and the bento boxes were absolutely stuffed with so many different food items. The hot towels at the end was just the cherry on top. The best Japanese restaurant in mobile. 10/10
As a huge fan of Japanese food and restaurants, I was looking forward to trying Shiso for the first time and I definitely wasn't disappointed. The restaurant is fairly large and separated into regular tables/booths, a bar, and a hibachi section (where food is cooked in front of you). We sat at a normal table due to having our baby with us, but we were able to watch some of the hibachi stations and they looked very entertaining. Despite it being a busy night, the atmosphere was relaxed and it felt quieter than it was. The servers were quick to take our order and were very friendly. Our complete order is listed below: - Hibachi dinner w/ shrimp, vegetables (broccoli, carrot, onion, zucchini, mushroom), and noodles - Hibachi dinner w/ steak and rice - Gyoza appetizer (6 wonton dumplings w/ soy sauce) - Raw bluefin tina Shiso sushi (nigiri) topped w/ fish roe. Served with pickled ginger and wasabi on the side - 2 house salads (lettuce and shredded carrot w/ ginger dressing) - Onion soup (onion broth w/ mushrooms and scallions) - Miso soup (miso broth w/ tofu chunks and seaweed) Everything was delicious, but I was especially impressed by the rich flavors of the bluefin nigiri sushi. The roe topping with ginger and wasabi on the side were great compliments for the bluefin. For the hibachi dinners, I felt like the noodles had just a tad too much soy sauce and the rice was a bit tamer, but overall it was all great. Prices for dinner were noticeably more expensive than for lunch (as much as $10 more per hibachi plate), so next time I plan to check out the lunch experience. Highly recommend giving Shiso a try! We'll definitely be adding it to our lunch rotation!
When we went here they had just had their grand opening the day before or something so they were just getting the hang of everything I think. At least that’s the reason I am willing to overlook some of the mistakes that were made. The hibachi was pretty good but not the best. It’s also a little more expensive than other hibachi places in town. The service was okay. I could tell they were a little overwhelmed with it being their first week open or whatever it was but one lady was just rude.
Shiso never disappoints. I’ve been around 10 times and the food is always delicious. I personally love the scallops and the shrimp tempura. The vegetables that come with any dish are fantastic, including the vegetables tempura. The soup that comes with the meals is delicious. Dining area is beautiful and very clean. Service is always good, although once in a while we have had our server disappear for long stretches. Once we had a rowdy bar customer sort of take over the ambience, but that situation was an outlier. You will definitely love the hot towel after your meal if available, it is a unique experience! Never a wait, food is always fresh, overall a good experience and I would definitely recommend Shiso.
Was excited to try their dim sum offerings as there is no other real option in Mobile but sadly they were disappointing. Shiu Mai was tough and lacking any real flavor. Cheung fun with shrimp was also bland in flavor and under done. Yes, they should be tender but these were barely cooked beyond raw. Chicken feet were undercooked as the glutinous mouth feel one would expect was not in this batch and the black bean sauce was only middling. Turnip cake was dry and uninteresting. The only item I would try again were the pork and peanut dumpling as they were as they should be. Sorry, Shiso, but this was a miss. Not sure if I'd try these offerings again.
I’m from out of town so I may have higher expectations or not. It was okay, not the best sushi & hibachi place but I have definitely had worse. We had table service since no one wanted to wait for the hibachi or see the show since if you’ve seen one you’ve basically seen them all. The server was great, she made sure our drink were filled & was really nice. The sushi bar was somewhat slow, my plate did not come out until the other people with me were halfway done with their dinner. All in all I would pick a different restaurant the next time I am down here.
This is kind of a mixed bag. Went in around lunch time to an empty restaurant and was waited in very attentively and well. Very person I spoke to or helped me was wonderful. The prices are a tad all over some things being pretty expensive while others are more reasonable. Was only in for a quick bit so didn’t get all my usual pictures or observations beyond food and service. The decor is smack in the middle of bland chain and cool local place. Isn’t my cup of tea decor wise but I’m sure it’s more patrons it’d feel a little more lively. The miso soup was hands down the best I’ve had in my entire life. The sushi I had was just okay, nothing more nothing less. Wasabi was clearly not very true or high quality judging my taste and how it was scooped. The ginger was also low quality which isn’t a big deal I’m just a stickler for good ginger and prefer mien not dyed pink. Overall not the best or worst experience I’ve had, wasn’t wowed and likely won’t be back but I don’t see a reason it should be avoided at all.
I’ve been here several times because I enjoy the hibachi and dim sum. Unfortunately, I have now witnessed the owner yelling at staff on three separate visits. At this point, it feels less like an employee problem and more like a pattern of toxic culture. Watching employees be publicly reprimanded is uncomfortable as a customer and speaks to what the young employees are dealing with behind the scenes. A restaurant’s culture matters just as much as its food. I hope the owner reflects on this and chooses to do better.
We chose Shiso for a hibachi night but were very disappointed by the service. We waited a full 20 minutes before our cook even arrived at the table. Even though we waited so long, our waiter claimed we received our hibachi chef before they could bring out the standard soup and salad, so they never served it to us. The food that was cooked was decent, but the overall experience felt rushed and the service was just okay. The restaurant needs to improve its coordination between the kitchen and the dining room.
Last night was unfortunate for the restaurant. They hosted a gender reveal dinner for some guests, but it was unpleasant. After a long wait, our cook, an older Asian gentleman, appeared disorganized and seemed either too old or too tired to manage the kitchen effectively. He left the grill dirty, and another cook had to clean it. The food was subpar as well. We noticed the owners watching him throughout the evening. This was not typical of the quality we experienced during our previous visits. I hope that the cook has retired by now.
We came here for lunch today me and my family sat down for hibachi, we were sitting there for 15-20 minutes without a server. While we were sitting the room was extremely hot with no ac and the restaurant started to get busy the workers look extremely over worked and tired. Once we got a server she was extremely welcoming and nice and apologized for being late to our table. She was helpful and we had a good lunch yet when we went to pay the people at the front were very rude and acted like they didn’t want to be there. They seemed liked the mangers of the restaurant and the taller lady did not help one bit and called on the servers for everything while she was doing nothing. Mangers shouldn’t be so dependent on the servers, need to help and do their jobs. Couldn’t imagine working here!!!
Terrible dim sum, seems wait staff these days don't know anything about proper waiting (tables should be cleared of trash when they are at the table, dishes removed when done, etc., yet they expect a large tip lol. T.I.P.S TO ENSURE PROMPT SERVICE therefore if you expect good tips, provide good service and stop talking with the other coworkers instead of making sure your customers are content.
