This place is like a gem hidden in a stone. It's open 24 hours, has a small menu BUT, has a variety of plates and the flavor is AMAZING. I ordered 3 tacos, 2 al pastor and 1 of chorizo. Has plenty of meat in them where you can actually make two tacos out of one. The tortilla It's not the ordinary taco size and it's not the regular size. It's somewhere in between. My wife ordered the Torta Ahogada and according to her it exceeded her expectations. The flavor was one that she said she hasn't found it at any other restaurant that have this kind of tortas. It came with refried beans inside with plenty of carnitas, with a particular twist on top with slices of avocado and two slices of fried cheese which made the torta unique. They even give you extra salsa that's according to my wife was spicier but good. We are both from Jalisco, México and my wife should know because at home she makes this kind of tortas Guadalajara style. So if you're into Tortas Ahogadas Guadalajara style, this is the place to go.

What I like about this place - It's a sit down restaurant with service open 24 hours a day; I really like that when it's 3 AM and you want to sit down for a meal, Maria's Taco Shop offers somewhere to go other than Denny's. -The food is usually pretty tasty as well.... No it's not even in my top 5 of best Mexican food establishments but then again Maria's Taco Shop is still serving good food when the establishments that are my favorite are all closed for the night. What I don't like about this place and what makes it lose stars - The service provided. I used to never have any issues with the customer service the employees and management provide, however service the past couple of years has really deteriorated to the point that I rarely go anymore; I will choose to go anywhere else now unless it's the middle of the night and I am really craving some carnitas or carne asada and even then I hesitate to go here. I personally suffer from a complex movement tic disorder and it feels like as time goes by and the worse my disability becomes the worse the service I receive. I have had employees and management openly make fun of me, calling me names and making fun of my disability because of my movement disorder. I have tried to explain that my movement disorder is a disability that is out of my control and that if I was able to fully control all of my movements and not have my face, arms and/or torso move in unconventional ways I certainly wouldn't move in the way that I do. This has always led to the employee or manager I am explaining this to, mocking my explanation, laughing at me, not believing me, and them escalating their rude behavior towards me. Maybe I'm just over sensitive to this and I know that most people won't have a disability like mine that causes them to have to go through dining experiences that are anywhere close to what my dining experience is like however for me even if the food is very tasty and I enjoy the food most times I dine there the prejudice and rudeness is hurtful enough that when I'm contemplating where to eat Maria's Taco Shop doesn't come to mind as an option anymore like it used to unless other options aren't available. Like why can't they just treat everyone with respect regardless if they are disabled or not? To me treating everyone as equals and treating everyone with respect doesn't seem like something that is too difficult to do (especially when at work) but then again I don't know how these people were raised or any of their personal history that causes them to want to make fun of someone when they see someone who is different from what is considered "normal" in society.

Ordered nacho fries today and just got a big watery plate of soggy fries that taste like nothing but the 10 gallons of sour cream they put on it and lettuce. It’s completely disgusting. This place is literally 1 min away from my house and every time I’ve tried them it’s been gross. And who puts lettuce on nacho fries? Weirdos. The spot right next door is way better.

Don’t recommend, my wife placed an order for pick up.When she got there , they gave her our order but said the shrimp cocktail was being made. She patiently waited for 15 mins which doesn’t seem long but when you have hot food every minute counts. She finally had enough and spoke with the cashier. She was then told that it was being made AGAIN. When she finally got the shrimp cocktail all of our other food was cold. In all honesty the shrimp cocktail was trash. We ended up throwing all our food away. Don’t spend your money here.

I have literally never left a review but I received my food and there was a dead moth that clearly got trapped when they were packing the food. I tried to call the restaurant multiple times to let them know that a moth got sealed in the container with the food, but every time I called it cut off and said the line was busy with no chance to leave a message. I was originally just going to call and let them know because I've ordered so many times and never had an issue but the fact that I couldn't get through after something so disgusting.... It just shows that they're not handling the food properly because it was the first thing I saw when I opened the sealed box. I won't be eating any of the other food that I ordered and I don't see myself eating here again.

Food has changed! No salt in the beans, different enchilada sauce! Very bland and when I called to see why everything was different 2 separate girls were rude! I said I was going to give a bad review and her response was, so it won't hurt our business! I've been going there since the 90s, I know the food is different now! When we lived in Atwater the food at that location was very good. I called them once because the beans didn't taste right. The girl tasted them and said oh no they forgot the salt! She apologized and was very nice. Never going back there again!

Literally disgusting! The meat was crunchy, nasty, and the parts that weren’t burnt were rubbery and had a very weird taste. I pulled out the crunchy burnt parts and there was nothing left. After pulling it apart I felt sick and it all came up and out, what a waste of money! I used to come here all the time when I lived in the area and it was pretty decent, but now I can’t even understand how they are still in business seeing the other reviews before me with people having similar experiences. Personally I’ll never come back and I would urge others to stay away.
