Opinions de Benihana Monterey
The owners are so humble. Top notch food. Just a wonderful place.
Had a great late lunch at Benihana in Monterey this past weekend! The staff was warm, welcoming and attentive, and the food was incredibly flavorful. The experience is always part of the fun—the friendly chef put on an entertaining show with special visual food tricks that brought plenty of smiles to the table. The shrimp appetizer, soup, salad, hibachi chicken (chicken breast and mushrooms grilled with sesame seeds) and chicken fried rice were absolutely delicious, and the green tea ice cream was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. The special sauces are great, too. Took half of the entree home and enjoyed it the next day. Easy parking in the nearby parking lot too. Family friendly, perfect for celebrations and there is even a special elevator to avoid the stairs if needed. Open from Noon to 10 pm - convenient. Highly recommended!
I love Benihanas and I always come in for their happy hour menu prices. I had Brick as a server and he was so Kind and quick with my order. I continue to come here because of the great service and great people like Brick. Brick was absolutely awesome!!!
I came in Friday evening around 4:30 because the restaurant offers a happy hour which is weekdays 3-6. My server was Jiselle. She was so attentive and very kind. The food was great and I enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere. Whether your here for the hibachi or happy hour that is only available in the bar section you are bound to have a good time. I was here on veterans day because they offered free hibachi for veterans and I came back today. I will definitely be asking for Jiselle each time I come in!!!
First time in US and first time at benihanas. It was so fun. Our chef Carlos was so entertaining and thanks to the female Asian receptionist who set us (2pax) with such an amazing group of women in one table. We had so much good food and entertainment.
It's BENIHANA! It is an experience. If you haven't dined hibachi style here, you definitely want to try. It is fun for adults and kids. The food is good, predictable and very fresh. The atmosphere is perfect and great for large crowds. Definitely a tourist-y destination especially the one in Monterey, but none-the-less a great experience. Reservations recommended as it can be tough during peak times and seasons.
Excellent service and food. We had the fillet mignon for $31. You get rice soup, salad shrimp with your grilled meat. They also gave us a scoop of ice cream for free. The Teppan table sits 8 people. If your party is less than that you most likely will have to share a table with other groups. It's all about the show the chef puts on in preparing your food. I noticed some chefs are more skilled and personable than others. It's pretty much the same show and food that I remember them putting on 45 yrs ago.
Paying for the show here. Food was good, definitely not worth the cost though.
Great place to take the family. Teppanyaki-style cooking. Good food and great atmosphere. Update 11.2.25: A group of us chose Benihana to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. The food was great as usual, but the chef interaction—normally a big part of the experience—was more subdued this time. Our group of seven ordered a variety of meals and drinks, with fried rice all around. I chose the Benihana Trio (filet mignon, colossal shrimp, and chicken breast), while my wife ordered the Land & Sea with filet mignon and scallops. All dishes were well prepared and enjoyable. Our chef appeared to be under the weather and was wearing a mask. Given how lively the restaurant can be, it was difficult to hear him, and aside from the onion volcano, there were fewer of the usual interactive elements. He seemed generally reserved. That said, we would absolutely return. At this price point, chef interaction is part of the fun, and this felt like an exception rather than the norm. Still recommended.
Food was excellent as was the preparation/entertainment, however my food got cold by the time the steamed rice was ready as it was not brought out until all the other food was ready and sitting for some time and got cold.
Staff is super nice, the service was great, and the parking is terrible. The atmosphere feels a bit claustrophobic. Does not have a view of the ocean at the hibachi tables, so FYI if you're hoping for that. The "show" wasn't what I am normally used to at establishments like these and no shrimp flip into my mouth!
It’s a great atmosphere if you want to be with family for Japanese food but except tempura neither of any taste like one. Quality of all dishes are good but quantity is laughable. It barely made up for what we paid.
Everything from the vibes to service we're great. Unfortunately the food was heavily salted and we could barely finish it get through halfway without wanting to sip water or have to eat it with rice. This was especially so after they added garlic butter to everything. Kinda heavy handed.
This restaurant cooks on the spot, and the performance is impressive. The vegetables were fresh and the beef was tender and delicious. However, the unfortunate thing is that the surroundings are noisy and bustling. The sound of the chef at the other table performing was heard at the next table, so communication was a bit difficult. And they think you should pay attention to hygiene.
It's always an enjoyable experience at benihana and I have returned many times however I've noticed the food portions changing. Sometimes I get alot of food and other times I feel robbed especially because the prices are very high..maybe it's the different chefs but still would appreciate better portions. It's always full at dinner so make sure to make a reservation
It's always fun to bring people here for the entertainment factor. You're paying the price as the food portions are small for the price. I've been to several Benihanas and the performance is very similar. Because of the entrainment factor, it will not be a quick lunch. Service is fun and friendly. If you park across the street in the lot, get a ticket to validate for a parking discount.
I still am shaking my head over this. I was SO excited for this dinner we were celebrating my graduation. Parking was terrible so I sent my mom in to get seated. A few minutes later, I arrived and met Mom in the lobby. The hostess sat us. I was even more excited. 5 minutes passed, then 10. The waitress arrived to take our drink orders. I asked how long until the rest of the table would be seated so we could get started on a fun dinner. Instead, she took our dinner orders and when she left, a server's helper cleared the rest of the plates off the table. We were left alone for the entire dinner. They stacked the plates at the end of the table and I just stared at the table, certain there was so sort of mix up and trying to figure out what was going on. Soon the chef came to the table and began prepping our dinner. He was great, but it was awkward and sad. After dinner the waitress brought us 3 dishes of ice cream and took 2 photos for us (terrible) She said they both were "no charge." As if it couldn't get worse, when I saw my charge for dinner on my Chase debit card, it was $30 more than I had authorized and signed the check for. We tipped in cash, so I knew that wasn't it. They had actually charged me for the "no charge" items. Never again. I am so beyond disappointed.
