Cant get better than this. Great food, awesome atmosphere, fabulous people. Each and every people around us seemed enjoying their meal. Don’t forget their cocktails with indian twists. It was nice surprise for us to get such a cocktails like a Tamarindo Margarita 😀 with spicy shell fish.
I always rely on Ambrosia Bistro in Monterey to provide me with good food. My work colleagues and I eat there five or six times each, and have had every meal be fantastic. The waitstaff are attentively accommodating and the food is always fresh and full of flavor. I almost always order the Goat Karahi with garlic naan. The goat is tender, the spices are evenly balanced and the rich curry is outstanding with the warm garlic naan. I frequently return to Ambrosia Bistro and order the goat karahi because it tastes so good! If you are searching for an authentic Indian restaurant in Monterey that prepares delicious food, then you should try Ambrosia Bistro. The restaurant's consistency and taste means I will continue to return.
Fantastic Service and Super Nice Owner The owner BJ and his staff are super nice and provided excellent service on my visit to this restaurant as I was stuck nearby due to a flat tire. The chicken Shahi Kurma and Garlic naans were fantastic. The kurma had just the right amount of spice and the naan was made to perfection. When another item wasn't to our liking, BJ replaced without any issues and even offered a free drink for us. Never met a more friendly and accommodating Indian restaurant owner. Will definitely stop by the next time I am in the area, primarily for BJ's hospitality.
A Hidden Gem for Indian Cuisine in Monterey Ambrosia India Bistro is easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Monterey. The food is absolutely delicious...every dish is full of flavor and clearly made with care and quality ingredients. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure everything was perfect throughout the meal. The environment is beautiful, warm, and inviting, with a relaxing atmosphere that makes you want to stay and enjoy every moment. If you love amazing Indian food and great service, this place is a must-visit.
This place is incredible!! The atmosphere is homey and inviting. The staff have always been so kind and patient. They are never rushing you and leave you be to enjoy your meal at your own pace. And the food - the BEST!!! I could eat here everyday and be happy. My boyfriend always gets the Chicken Tikka Masala and I've tried all of the lamb dishes and they are absolutely delicious! The coconut rice is a MUST! And the pesto naan is a staple for us. We have never been disappointed by any of the starters either. If you're in the area - go here! You'll be upset if you don't!
We had an amazing experience here last December when my coworkers and I chose this restaurant for our Christmas party. There were at least 30 of us, and the service was absolutely excellent from start to finish. Everyone was attended to so well, and impressively, all of our drinks arrived around the same time—no small feat for a group that size. We sat outside, and the atmosphere was beautiful, which made the evening even more special. The highlight, though, was the food. It was buffet-style and outstanding—every single one of us went back for seconds. That says everything. You can truly feel the heart behind this family-owned restaurant, from the attentive service to the incredible food. Huge credit to the owner and staff for making our night so memorable. If you haven’t tried this place yet… now is definitely the time.
Ambrosia India Bistro in Monterey was an absolute treat. Their Minty Guava with Mezcal cocktail was truly an out-of-this-world experience — refreshing, smoky, and perfectly balanced. I also tried their very unusual Korma Mo:Mo, which is something I honestly don’t think I could find anywhere else. My partner loved the Spicy Garlic Gobi, packed with bold flavor and just the right kick. I noticed they’ve made several modifications since my last visit — the ambiance now feels even more soothing and relaxing. Paired with their signature cocktails, it makes for a fantastic dining experience.
As a lover of Indian food, I was thrilled to try this restaurant out. I can’t recommend it enough! The food is delicious, the ambiance is beautiful and the service was lovely. 10/10 recommend!
Absolutely Delicious & Exceptional Experience! Ambrosia India Bistro is a true gem in Monterey! From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the tone for a fantastic meal. Every dish was bursting with flavor — the perfectly spiced curries, fresh naan, and richly aromatic rice made this one of the best Indian meals we’ve had in the area. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring our experience was top-notch from start to finish. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout, this spot delivers outstanding food and service. We can’t wait to come back and try more on the menu — highly recommended!
Classy clean ambiance! Looking for an authentic Indian cuisine? Look no further! From hospitality to presentation and the final destination.. delicious! Not to mention the drinks were on point!
One of my favorite places to go in Monterey! charming and delicous. Great mixed cocktails as well as tasty dishes in very variety. They accommodated us large (30 person) sit-down dinner for me recently, and the food meets everyone's dietary restrictions. The owners are very responsive and we felt well taken care of.
The place seems welcoming. It has a nice ambiance. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. The staff was nice and polite. The food was freshly prepared and delicious. The quantity was generous and the prices are reasonable. They have clean restrooms and street Parking is available onsite. We even ordered the take out for next day. Definitely recommend it.
I ordered delivery through uber. I liked everything except for shahi naan thus giving 4/5 else it would be 5/5. I ordered dal makhni which was very tasty and flavorful. Matar paneer was good even my kid liked it. Not too spicy and full of flavors.
I had a really good experience at Ambrosia India Bistro in Monterey. The place feels warm and welcoming as soon as you walk in. The staff is friendly and checks on you without being annoying. The food came out hot and fresh, and everything I tried tasted great. The butter chicken was my favorite. It was creamy, rich, and not very spicy. The naan was soft and perfect for dipping. I also tried the biryani, and it had a nice mix of flavor and spice without being overwhelming. Portions were good, and I actually had leftovers to take home. The place is clean, the service is quick, and the prices feel fair for the quality you get. I left feeling full and happy. If you like Indian food or want to try something new, this is a great spot. I would definitely come back again and bring friends.
Ambrosia Indian Bistro is hands down the best Indian restaurant in town! The flavors are authentic, and every dish is rich and bursting with bold taste. Both the buffet and à la carte menus are excellent, and the staff are always welcoming. Perfect for a family dinner or a special night out.
Ambrosía India Bistro is a gem in Monterey for anyone who enjoys authentic, flavorful Indian cuisine. The restaurant has plenty of space, making it comfortable whether you’re dining as a couple, with family, or in a larger group. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between casual and elegant, with a warm and welcoming energy that makes you want to stay a little longer. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, from rich, aromatic curries to lighter vegetarian options, ensuring there’s something for everyone. I recommend starting with the lunch buffet if you want to sample a little of everything—it’s well-curated, fresh, and perfect for discovering new favorite dishes. For à la carte, you’ll find carefully prepared classics with just the right balance of spice and flavor. To complement the food, Ambrosía has a surprisingly great drink selection. Indian beers like Flying Horse and Taj Mahal pair perfectly with the bold spices of the dishes, while their cocktail menu and wine list offer plenty of tasty options if you’re looking for something different. The staff is consistently attentive, friendly, and helpful with recommendations, which adds to the overall experience. Whether you’re new to Indian food or already love it, they make the dining experience approachable and enjoyable. Overall, Ambrosía India Bistro is more than just a place to eat—it’s a well-rounded dining experience with excellent food, drinks, and service. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Monterey.
Found this hidden gem in Monterey. Service is excellent.great class decorated ambiance. Night time que to enter. Food is tasty and accommodates vegan/vegetarian preference. They offer a lovely all-you-can-eat lunch buffet at a very reasonable price I'm morning. And the ambience is better than many high-end places. Definitely a must try when you're in town! Little pricy but worth to visit.
The atmosphere and the food were a delight as was the service from our waiter, Sam. This was an excellent recommendation from Rebecca From the Monterey Bay Hotel. The chicken tikka masala had real chunks of chicken and an outstanding flavor in the spice . A great place to take someone for a first date or anniversary! A real Gem!

First time eating here. The food is amazing! We've never been to India so we have no idea what's authentic or not, but the food here is spectacular! Everything we ordered basically. The rice you have to order separately, 1 order would be for 2 to 3 people, its a lot. The server was really nice and prompt. We sat down outside and it was great! Love the plants and flowers in the surroundings. I hate that the bugs and flies or maybe bees were everywhere, but they didn't really disturb our food so that was okay. If you are allergic to bees, beware. Other than that, we will be telling our friends about this place. Glad we gave it a try! Update: We went back to Ambrosia today to try out their buffet. It was good and the ambience inside was really cozy. I've had tandoori chicken many times before and what they served was slightly different from what i had. But it was still delicious! The buttered chicken was also great! Ask for more naan bread and they will gladly give you more!
A little disappointing! The entrance was very welcoming, with a garden path leading to the front entrance, and the restaurant looked well decorated too! But the service was poor and the food just okay. I appreciated that they took my allergies into consideration, but it seemed like we were forgotten after being seated. We ordered a simple meal which was served soon enough, but had to wait forever to get someone’s attention to pay the bill! May be a good venue for takeout!
Excellent ambiance and service, but the food did not meet the expectations I had for an Indian restaurant. Seven of us came here the night before our Monterey half marathon, hoping to enjoy a heavy Indian meal, but we were disappointed. The vegetable pulao was soggy, and the coffee was just black coffee. At an Indian restaurant, we expected milk coffee—the typical Indian-style coffee. The lamb curry was underwhelming, and the tandoori chicken was overcooked
Usually I am very considerate in my reviews if either the food is good or at least the service is good. But was disappointed with both in this restaurant. In my experience that one dish that most Indian restaurants never go wrong with is a simple dal. Unfortunately these guys could not even make a dal properly. We waited for 20 mins on our table and then had to finally reach-out to someone to take our order. One of the staff was rude too. The decor was nice. I wish they improve..!!
Visited Ambrosia India for dinner with my partner, ordered both appetizers and main courses, and the food was just okay. Unfortunately, the service completely ruined the experience. Our server had a very poor attitude from the start. When he asked about drinks, we politely said no, and that should be a non-issue. Instead, he responded in a way that felt judgmental and dismissive, almost as if something was wrong with us for not ordering drinks. After that interaction, it was clear he wasn’t interested in serving us. His facial expressions and body language made us feel unwelcome, like our presence didn’t matter because we weren’t adding drinks to the bill. Wanting to upsell is understandable, but treating customers poorly because they decline is not acceptable. Because of the way we were treated, we would not return to this restaurant, regardless of the food. Respectful service matters, and this experience fell far short of that.
The garlic naan is like chewing rubber. The chicken tikka masala has no spice and an overwhelming taste of tomato. It tastes almost sweet and it’s very soupy. They also used chicken breast for it, and everybody knows that chicken tikka masala should be made with chicken thighs for optimal flavor. The rice is flavorless that I’m not really sure they’re using basmati rice. This is the most subpar in Indian food I’ve had in California so far.
We visited Ambrosia Indian Bistro and the experience was very disappointing. I felt very, very let down and my friends were discussing how bad it was for a long time afterward. Even my vegetarian friends weren’t happy because the Palak Paneer wasn’t cooked properly. The staff were polite and replaced it with Paneer Butter Masala, but the food overall still didn’t taste good. The biggest letdown was the biryani. It tasted more like tomato rice than real biryani. I’ve never left biryani on my plate in my life but this time we all took just a couple of spoons and left the rest. The food definitely needs serious improvement.
