Opinions de Crabby Jim's Seafood Monterey
The friendly host and his offer of a free appetizer lured us hook, line and sinker! I’m glad for it, though. I’m not sure if I was in an overly good mood or if the staff are normally as amazing and attentive as they were. Either way, I’d give Crabby Jim’s five shiny stars anyway! Everything from the calamari appetizer to the main entrees to the desserts was absolutely delightful. For years, I’ve always ranked Scales’ clam chowder as #1, no competition. After having Crabby Jim’s clam chowder, I think it might deserve to be ranked up there with Scales. It was a little on the salty side for me, but the taste, texture, richness, creaminess, and amount of clams was actually perfect. The saltiness is the only reason Scales continues to reign 1st place in my book. I would go back to Jim’s any day no matter how Crabby he is!
Don’t let the low star rating stop you from enjoying the best food in the area, appetizers are amazing and the food and drinks are top notch. Yes it’s pricey, but so is everything else in the area!!! My wife had the crab special and I had the ribeye, BEST food we have had in 5 days! I would like to add that Jeffrey was a great server and made sure we enjoyed our dinner.
Crabby Jim’s is a must-visit on the Old Fisherman’s Wharf. The clam chowder is legendary, and adding crabmeat in a bread bowl with the garlic top makes it extra extravagant. The fish is always fresh and seasoned beautifully. For those who are not seafood fans, there are plenty of other options like burgers and steak that are equally delicious. The views from the restaurant are stunning, and the service is excellent, making the whole experience even better. A perfect spot for amazing food, warm hospitality, and unbeatable scenery.
Been coming here for a few years… Food is great as always. noticed the portion size getting smaller and price increasing however that’s at all restaurants. No wait time, server was great, he was very attentive. We got the tostada salad, clam chowder in bread bowls and 2 kids meals.. once you pay and get your receipt you can go next door to the candy shop and get a 10% discount..
Me and 6 friends from the East Coast were in Monterey for some golf at Pebble (woohoo!) and decided to get some food and visit Cannery Row. I pretty much picked this place due to it being able to seat larger parties and it's location. We had a great dinner! Service was spot on and the food was really good to great. The chowder in the bread bowl is a meal unto itself and is A+++. WE had various dishes amongst the 7 of us. Nobody was disappointed. The seafood was fresh and tasty and the beef was cooked and seasoned well. We also had desserts. I thought they were pretty good but the rest of the guys really enjoyed them. We had the red velvet cake, canoles, and I can't remember the third. But it was quite the dessert tray. One thing I have to comment on; the name does not fit the restaurant. It's a bit more elegant than Crabby Jims's. lol. Definitely enjoyed my meal and would recommend and would come back again.
Got given a great widow seat with a beautiful view. The waiter was really nice and even have my partner a rose which was sweet as we were travelling through. If you go get the chowder in garlic bread, I don't think I'm ever going to have anything as delicious as that again. Really cosy and enjoyable atmosphere at the time, probably because we had really good seats.
I came here four times, and the last time was by far the most memorable as I was recently engaged. The waiters are nice, the view is amazing, and the food is impeccable (especially the pasta). Definitely take your SO here if you're looking for a good time out in the Monterey area. It's a very memorable experience.
Friendly service. Delicious meal. I had the Seafood Tostado, which had grilled shrimp and salmon on a bed of mixed greens with a creamy cilantro dressing. The seafood was fresh and well-seasoned. The service was excellent, and the seating by the window with a view of the Bay was perfect.
My husband and I stopped in and were just blown away by the immediate friendliness of the staff and cleanliness of the restaurant and deliciousness of the food! I had a bowl of clam chowder and it was the best on the wharf in my opinion. My husband had the New York steak pasta and he was in love! The flavors were so good! We also had the fish and chips, aside from my disappointment of it being only 1 piece of fish, it was still quite large and tasted so good! They gave us free calamari as an appetizer which was a pleasant incentive. Although, beware that a glass of Dr. Pepper is $5 lol other than that, enjoy!
A charming little restaurant on the wharf. We had a window seat it was warm and inviting. They gave us complimentary calamari and I ordered a margarita. The view of the water during dinner was so relaxing. My son and hubs ordered steak and I had the salmon.
The food was excellent, though a bit on the pricey side. Given the location on Monterey and the Wharf, this was not surprising. The establishment could use a bit of updating, but overall it was a good visit. One issue worth noting was that the busser appeared not to pay close attention when the waiter explained the drinks we had ordered, which caused some minor confusion. The waiter, however, was professional, attentive, and very pleasant. With a little more attentiveness from the support staff, the experience could be improved further.
Decently sized restaurant ln the middle of the touristic Wharf. So higher priced and smaller portions were expected. All in all the service was very good and the food, too. The Mac‘n‘Cheese burger was yummy, even though not cooked medium. The mussels portion was way too small, tasted very good though. It‘s a good spot to eat and they do have Margarita Happy Hour all day 🍹
Went there for lunch. Ahi tuna was good, but the bed of lettuce was salty beyond belief. Not too many people, so the service wasn't terrible, although it did feel a bit rushed. Major problem, that almost caused me to land in the fireplace, is the fact that the floor is carpeted with the same semi dark pattern, that crates an illusion of a single level. That successfully hid the fact that there are 2-3 inch high differences between floor segments which represent a serious tripping hazard.
I will make this simple without over writing. Everything on the Pier is a tourist trap, your are here anyway so you should expect it. There is definitely a lot of history here, good view, but the food is just so so, over priced and over rated. The calamari and the chowder were good, but that was about it. That lobster with the grilled shrimp and fettuccine pasta special has little or no lobster in there. It is filled with some kind of chopped up baby shrimp stuffing with the later of melted cheese on top, the whole fish was over fried and dry. I would give this joint 2 stars if it wasn't for the hint of truffle oil that I tasted in the chowder. Personally I would drive a little bit outside of this area.
I randomly went to this restaurant for lunch when I was visiting the town. The view is pretty nice from the table and the service is fast. I ordered crab chowder and seafood pasta and they gave me a free fried calamari side. The chowder is fine, not the best one I had before. And for the seafood pasta, the portion is good but I felt like I can taste the fishlike smell easily:( so I have to deduct some points from here.
This place is a total tourist trap! Wicked expensive for food that was decent but nothing to write home about. The kicker? For groups of six or more, they automatically tack on gratuity — fine, whatever — but then they give you separate receipts that also suggest tipping again… based on the entire bill, tax, and the gratuity they already charged! Pretty sure they’re making a killing off that little trick, so heads up before you dine here.
Food was awful. The clam chowder was very salty but the bread was good but very greasy. Only reason why we went was because my dad wanted a grill fish and they had a special that was on display and he was not satisfied. My mother ordered a burger and it was also not good i had a bite and it has this awful taste to it and it smelled weird I am definitely not going to this place again but the service was good bill was over 100$ for just us 3
We were called into this restaurant off the dock by the owner. She saw we were on our way to another restaurant and then convinced us Her's was more kid friendly. The view was great but that's about all. Ordered a cocktail that was too strong to drink. Choked on a bone in the Chardonnay Sand Dabs dish, and then we were rushed to leave because they were apparently closing as evident by the entirety of the kitchen staff coming out into the restaurant and staring, conversing about how they were ready to go home. Food was overpriced. If anything, grab a table by the water for drinks and move on.
WISH I could give a negative star. I never rate resturants but this has been the worse experience. I typically tip at the end after paying my bill. This server would not take my cash payment if it did not include the tip of his choice. It was a total of $115. With cents. I gave him $120 expecting the change back to leave his actually tip plus the $4 with change at the table. He would not take my payment if it did not have the exact amount of tip he was demanding of $21. I gave him $23 and he kept the $4.of my bill too. He tried to be smart but he lost too because my son was going to leave a tip of $20 plus my $20 making g it $40. He got $$28 by forced. I have never been at a resturant were they decide on what they want as a tip. My Teenager son got an order of Fish and Chips and my young son got the one from the kids Manue. The amount of food looked the same the only diffrence was the price. The pasta is was also a small amount. You can have more if you order at olive garden kids meal. The only thing good is the clam showeder. I let the manager know of the incident and they did not offer a discount. They said she will address it. Wish I could of just gotten the tip back at least.
I would give this no stars at all .I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. First, I was forced inside the restaurant by the man inside. Then, when my food arrived, I found a hair in it — which is completely unacceptable. On top of that, our table’s food came out before a couple who had been seated well before us, and another group nearby was given the wrong bill entirely. To make matters worse, when we were about to pay, the waiter actually demanded his tip right in front of us, which was extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable. Overall, the service was chaotic, the cleanliness was questionable, and the staff’s behavior made the entire visit unpleasant. I will NEVER be returning to Crabby Jim’s Seafood ever again.
First the food was very salty and over rated for the price. Secondly I was placed in a booth filled with flies next to the window it felt very disgusting especially since they decorate very fancy. My food was constantly being surrounded by flies. Third, the host outside was very pleasant but once I was inside the attitudes change, idk if the waiters were being judgy because I came alone or what but I felt disrespected by the waiter reminding me how much the sparkling bottle costs. Never going back
I rarely write reviews, but I feel this one is necessary to help others manage expectations. The calamari portion was extremely disappointing—over 80% was just heads and tentacles with very few rings. When I asked our waiter “C” about it, she casually replied, “Oh, it’s been like that for months, it’s to save on cost… but they’re my favorite.” That was unsettling to hear, especially since we were paying a premium price for what were essentially small fried squid heads that tasted more like chicken nuggets than calamari. The scallops were another letdown—overcooked, chewy, and lacking the light, buttery texture that properly prepared scallops should have. The snapper was at least cooked well, but it was bland and desperately needed seasoning and salt. To be fair, the service was great—our server was attentive and friendly—but that couldn’t make up for the food quality and portion “shrinkage.” Overall, Crabby Jim’s felt overpriced and underwhelming. On top of that we waited to get our receipt but nothing was provided. If you’re looking for better seafood on the Wharf, I’d recommend waiting a little longer for a table at Domenico’s or Old Fisherman’s Wharf instead. Unfortunately, Crabby Jim’s just isn’t worth it.
Came here for lunch with colleagues. Since we were still working and not on vacation, we just wanted a simple salad. The waiter kept recommending expensive menus. When I said no, his expression turned ugly. We ordered clam chowder cup $9 each , but too salty, asked him if they have cracker or bread, he said NO , but you can order whole bread $ , I explained chowder is too salty , he just walk away , no sorry no other offer . calamari & chips $ 28 Shrimp luise salad $30 Average , but we didn't finish, chowder also .
