Opinions de Pearl Hour Monterey
Fabulous drinks AND amazing service. It took us a moment to find it, but we’ll worth it. We will definitely be back. Queer friendly, which was an added bonus. LOVE this place.
Literally the only place in Monterey worth going out and getting a drink at. Cocktails are amazing, ambiance is on point. My favorite bar in town, by miles
My favorite little local bar. Super cool vibes and excellent drinks. Wish they had more food options though.
Love the cocktails, lots to do like pinball, pool, foosball and they have a fire pit/outdoor area. Vibe, music, staff and service was 💯. Cash only but they got an ATM.
Really nice patio vibe and great service. April was great and told me about some of the programming Pearl Hour does throughout the month. Looking forward to coming back.
Great and friendly service, a novel cocktail list,.a fun, hip, low-key, Speakeasy vibe, and lots of fun events (bands, movies) - it has all the makings of a really great and intimate bar.
Great coffee, lovely atmosphere. I don't have a regular coffee place but I really want Pearl Hour to stick around so I'll be back again and again.
Excellent cocktails. Jazz every Sunday. They have a great selection of gin. Can’t wait to come back.
Lovely outdoor patio. The DJ , Gwen was spinning great tunes too. Fantastic cocktails.
Seriously amazing spot. Cocktails were delicious and clearly made with care. Ambiance was chilled and funky, while still remaining chic. Marz was one of the best servers/bartenders I've ever had, and the namesake drink that he created was equally wonderful.
Every 2nd Thursday is queer night. They have a dj that plays some great music. If dancing isn't your thing, they have a very nice outdoor space to enjoy. This year I went to the Pride After-party which was fun.
1st time here, the decor was great and bartenders were very nice. I would stop again.
The vibes are immaculate. The cocktails, while on the expensive side, are expertly crafted and honestly worth the price. You can always switch to High Lifes after trying the monthly zodiac sign drink anyway. I don't go out much, but when I do, it's usually here.
Went here on a Monday night. They had some pretty nice music and the drinks are top tier. Not only in taste but in potency. The whole vibe is chill and classy. I'm not a local but certainly plan to return in the future next time I visit.
Want creative and delicious cocktails in a chill environment will excellent service, then head to PH. You'll never be disappointed no matter what night of the week you attend, and I highly rec the marcona almonds as a midnight snack!
Don't let the few bad reviews deter you. They were left by whiny offended crybabies seeking out ridiculous stuff to get upset about. There are just people out there miserable for no reason. This place is great. Really cool and unique spot. Loved the old school ice cubes in the drinks too. And kudos for supporting musicians! Keep rocking guys!
$10 happy hour cocktails were delicious! Amazing outdoor space in the back with a huge fire pit and tons of seating. Would go back any time
Was perfect. Except when some little Asian woman decided to pin point me out for not wearing a mask before entering . When I sat and watch 25 people walk in and out of the front door with out. She was rude and Obnoxious about the whole thing , ether stick to your rule with everyone, or don't. Also I am a resident of Monteray and know the CDC guild lines most bars in the area don't mandate it or allow a percentage of there capacity Figure it out ma'ma!! Other than that rudeness the group and I had a great time Mars our waiter was excellent and went above and beyond for my group to make sure we we're well taken care of . Thank you Mars for taking care of my staff's outing! ❤
What a treat to stumble upon Pearl Hour while visiting Monterey! It checks all the boxes. Awesome cocktails, cheap beer options, patio (with a FIRE PIT), welcoming and homey environment and staff. If I lived here I would be a regular.
AMAZING AS ALWAYS! I am so happy this placed opened (and reopened after c19). The best atmosphere in town. Oh the drinks are top notch too, old fashioned is the PERFECT! I love my pearl.
My favorite bar in Monterey!
Wonderful experience with great drinks. I hope they open up a spot up in SF area as it will be a hit with a lot of people!
A 21+ coffee shop with wifi and a social distancing friendly outdoor patio and fire pit. Considering it was a hip cocktail bar pre-covid, they also offer an awesome weekend bottle shop with small batch alcohols and housemade bitters and mixes. There is also local cocktail kit delivery where you can buy all the ingredients to make some of their best cocktails!
Quirky bar with great albeit unusual cocktails. Definitely don't miss Pearl Hour if you love crafted cocktails.
I popped in recently on a Sunday, upon recommendation for live music. They had an incredible jazz band. The atmosphere was amazing. They had an incredible selection of spirits. So many I'd never seen before. The colors, the vibe, the staff...fabulous! I definitely reccomend this place and will be returning next time I'm in town!
To be clear, there is no food, it's just drinks. However I love the location, the ambiance, and said drinks. They put care into creating these recipes, and just as much care into making them. Service is wonderful, and the live music is great. Be prepared to put some money down for drinks, average price off happy hour for the drinks is in the neighborhood of 16 bucks. We spent about 80ish bucks for two drinks each between my wife and I.
Pearl hour is simultaneously a high end cocktail and service bar with an intimate and moody atmosphere but also a place that isn't stuck up, draws big crowds and clearly the locals favorite. Katie who runs the bar is nothing but a pure professional with everyone who walks through the doors and she holds all of her staff to the same standards. The cocktails are interesting and each person on the staff is happy to take to time to talk about them with you. The spirits are very hand chosen and if you haven't heard of them before, they want you to understand what you should know about the producer etc. Or, you could just have your own experience, dance with your friends to whatever jazz or eclectic dj is playing or lounge on the vintage furniture. It's whatever you want it to be. This is the place. Don't miss it.
The live jazz was really wonderful and the staff is attentive. Drinks are spot on and the decor is fun. Edit to note that they have heat inside now and a super toasty fire pit outside that is sure to please. They've also added hours!
Good spot for live music on Friday night. The cocktails are a little pricey, but good. There is a nice ambiance to the space in the back and the bar up front is nice, albeit quite loud when the music starts. Also, they have a 6 foot pool table if you can snag it.
Great little spot a block up from San Carlos Beach. Tasty cocktails and friendly, attentive service. Huge outdoor seating area in the back complete with a fire pit and second bar. We went on a Monday evening and the place filled up nicely (although if you order cocktails after 8pm there is a $5 cover charge for local live musicians). We were happy to support them. We stayed way longer than planned we enjoyed it so much. LGBTQIA+ friendly.
Visiting Monterey from NY. After much googling, we settled on taking an uber to Pearl- so happy we did! The Jazz band playing (Sunday night) was excellent, and the drinks are fantastic. I recommend the Tiger Style & Cancer. The place is gorgeous, the staff is so nice- there are so many sweet touches here, there’s a faint smell of incense burning and mood lighting everywhere. Very comfortable. 10/10!
Coolest bar in Monterey. Fancy cocktails up front, dive bar in the back. Great lighting, lots of couches to chill on
Great 80s music, great drinks. But the staff was what was worth coming for. I fell down because I was after lasik surgery and the light got me dizzy. They brought me water right say. There was a line outside (weekend) but everyone was so nice and professional. Will def be back! Limited wine/bees selection but my drinks were strong and unique! People were dancing
Came here a few months ago and really enjoyed it. There are too many "mixologist" places sprouting up everywhere these days but these folks do it right. Their cocktails aren't loaded with hundreds of ingredients where you end up with a sugary mess. They have fewer ingredients and are well crafted. Even the folks serving tables know their stuff... They know details about how the syrups and tinctures are made. Most places these days don't have such staff. Temperature of the drinks was also observed and you could really just tell they knew what they were doing. Maybe some people may not notice the extra mile they go to to ensure their cocktails are top notch but some can see the difference.
Great new bar! Staff is really nice and drinks are good. I get a modern speakeasy dive bar vibe. Great back outdoor patio space and they do live music! just note that they don't serve food. Excited to go back and make it a regular hangout.
The only thing better than the drinks is the service and atmosphere. The drinks are quirky and delightful. The staff is kind and attentive. The atmosphere is super cute. Drinks are strong but flavorful. We hope to visit again when we come back to Monterey. Highly recommend this amazing gem. Definitely try the "Blood Sister". 💜 Queer friendly, which makes it even better. Try it, you won't be disappointed. 💜
One of the better cocktail bars on the west coast, certainly the best on the central coast. You may bring your own food, which is great because there’s plenty nearby but not much here besides almonds and olives. Great outdoor seating and impeccable service. Bottom line, cocktails and vibes: both immaculate.
I get the queerest sensation this is a lesbian bar. I just wish it was open later. This place would totally kill it in LA, but it's too big for its own good here in sleepy Monterey.
Fantastic cocktail bar! Was visiting from a few hours north of here, wish my hometown had a place like this. Very queer friendly, great vibes, delicious and unique herbal cocktails.
This has to be the best cocktail bar in the 831 hands down. The menu changes depending on the month and horoscope. They have live jazz every Sunday with frequent djs, bands, dancers and more. The modern love always hits the spot. 100/10
Not only does this place serve amazing, unique drinks with a speakeasy atmosphere (that has been completely revamped in the coolest way...), but it also curates cocktail boxes in a brilliant business shift to respond to COVID. The knowledge about every bottle on their shelves, the family who produces it and even the bartender known for a drink with it... is unmatched. The personalized recommendations make for an amazing beverage to suit any taste or budget. I am so excited for this place to open back up in the future with the gorgeous garden patio that has been lovingly planted and tended to throughout this shutdown, but in the meantime I'm ecstatic to have their bottle service as an option. Thanks for your amazing service Katie and crew!!! Also... A new espresso bar?!
Beautiful spot, wonderful ambiance and attentive staff. Rare finds especially for the Gin aficionado. We had to try almost everything on the menu! Interesting combos, some more herby than others. If you are a Prosecco lover , their blood sisters is one of the most unique Prosecco/brandy based cocktails (on the sweeter side) if you’re feeling citrus go for the rum (mermaids tail) and if you’re feeling like a clean botanical gin go for the sunrise in Japan ❤️ you cannot go wrong.
Unassuming presence on busy Lighthouse Ave hide Pearl Hour from those not in the know. Step inside the front door or the cool speakeasy side entrance and you'll find this place rocks! An old school bar, plenty of tables front a small stage which hosts live bands, DJ house music and other entertainment while the outside with its fire pit and eclectic decor and tasteful craft cocktail make this a go to for girls night out or a first date. Highly recommended.
Great ambience, such a fun place to meet, chat, listen to music, enjoy a nice cocktail.
Great ambiance and drinks here. I had the American Psycho and he had the Cherry Coke Float. Both very good. The bartender was kind and personable. They have an outdoor area as well, and live music on Sunday and Wednesday nights. Definitely check it out.
One of my favorite places to go out in Monterey. Delicious drinks and I just love being inside Pearl Hour as it reminds me of an old-school speakeasy. If you're a local like me or just visiting Monterey, come to Pearl Hour for a great time and cozy atmosphere!
This place was pretty nice. Staff was very friendly and helpful being a new visitor ☺️ awesome bartender last night. The jazz music was great too and wasn't all that bad for covering charge for the band. David was awesome at his drinks and the menu is fantastic!! This place is still amazing no changes
Great bar! Vibes on the inside with a stage for live music, etc., cozy spacious outdoor patio with fire pits and pop up food truck. They do zodiac-inspired cocktails! Will definitely come back for the monthly drag shows.
Good spot to hang. Plenty of young people and it's lively on a Saturday night. Make sure you get here early cause seats are hard to get and they switch the menu to handle the crowd. They have events as well, check their website. Menu is easy to read and plenty of choices. Best spot for cocktail.
What a gem! I went on a Sunday night. Live jazz that was spectacular. It was after 9 and I hadn’t eaten yet, but I was able to door dash a meal without any issue at all. The wait staff was friendly and remarkably attentive! I stuck to the classic cocktails all of which were outstanding! I will definitely return next to me I am in town 😎🙌
Pearl Hour has been, for quite some time, our favorite bar in Monterey and one of our favorite bars in Monterey. We reached out to PH to ask whether we could host a welcome drinks event the night before our wedding, and they graciously accepted! I can’t begin to explain how incredible the service we got in preparation for and during the event was. Every single one of our guests gushed about the quality of the delicious cocktails and how BEAUTIFUL the space was. Thank you so much, Pearl Hour, for hosting us, especially since we know that putting together events such as this one can be really stressful. A+ drinks. A+ service. A+ everything.
Great speakeasy vibe with couches and candlelight inside and an outside seating area with a huge firepit! The bathrooms were clean and it was a really relaxing atmosphere! The staff and patrons were friendly and kind!
Great little venue. We came into town to see Perfect Blue perform! The cocktail drink had an adorable orange star garnish. The local beer was delicious.
We saw someone complain about the $10 cover charge for the band but also saw someone say the bands here were amazing so we took the plunge and GLAD WE DID! We were happy to pay for such delightful entertainment and the cocktails were amazing! We’ll be back!
Moody and chic. This place had a great vibe. The coktails are highly recommended light but with a kick. The music dj selection had the place enjoying everyones company.
Really cool vibe! Soon they are opening for food and will be open later into the day. I look forward to being able to hang out here more often to bring some cheer back to socially distanced life
An amazing place in Monterey with an awesome vibe and delicious drinks! Cozy, intimate, perfect for groups or just a couple of people. Great outdoor area too

One of the best gems on Monterey! Unobstrusive, subtle, cozy, with blues playing in the background while you laugh with friends in the backyard patio. You don't want to leave, but someone still has to drive...

Wonderful cocktail bar, Gelb is a great bartender, and they had some lovely, live jazz music. Their drinks are spectacular and even have seasonal specials. The atmosphere is relaxing and very enjoyable. They even have couches & an open air space in the back with a brazier for warmth. If you also need to pace yourself, they have a delicious non-alcoholic selection of drinks, including seltzer and tea.
Been going here for the past 5 years. Best creative cocktails, service and atmosphere in Monterey. Pearl Hour has live music almost every night of the week..jazz every Sunday and Wednesday. I often take visitors here. You won’t be disappointed!

Good cocktails (which is the most important thing) and I had good service. The vibe is a work in progress. I would consider removing carpet, putting some patio heaters outside, and painting interior walls. Overall though nice place to grab a drink with a patio and firepit outside. Has potential! They do live music too so check their website. Bring your cash though as it is currently cash only (there is an atm inside though with a $2 fee). Will go back and bring friends!
Cool place. Chill vibes. Mixed crowd. Cocktails are good. A bit on the higher end so prepare to spend. If there’s a cover — and there sometimes is — they auto charge it to your tab.
Total vibe. Bonus points for indoor AND outdoor seating. Friendly staff, quality cocktails. My only complaint is that there isn't a large selection of non alcoholic drinks- water, coke and $10 cold tea. Will definitely be back, and looking forward to attending one of their live events.
Really chill place. Drinks were well crafted and the outside had a seating next to a big fire pit. We went on a Friday night and it wasn't busy but still took a while to get our first drink order in
We started out Friday night here. It’s by no means bad but the interior doesn’t quite match the inviting back patio. The fire pit is decidedly a romantic spot for a first date. Pleasantly surprised to find several other queer folks about. Have fun exploring the creative spirits.
The place itself very nice, with great music and tasty cocktails. The service was professional but at the same time, nobody notifies us that they charge per person for the live music and we got the surprise just when we received the check, also the weather outside is cold and there are no heaters so be prepared.

I debated giving this spot 4 stars. Fabulous drinks! However the place itself needs some upgrading it kind of feels like you are at your college bar (very grungy)but the drinks are amazing. You know the bar that you never go to when its light out. The decor is not consistent. The ceiling looks like they started with silver plates but then stoped. I wish this spot matched the wonderful drinks.
Visited for the first time last night. Upon entering, the place looked chic and cute. We came for the burlesque show which was actually a drag show. Turns out it was a fabulous performance. I’d like to talk about the rude owner. She’s awful and gives off the worst negative vibe. I asked a simple question and her response was snide and rude. She made me feel absolutely uncomfortable to the point I had to walk outside. Her staff is boring and they respond like robots. You’d think spending over $250 in alcohol, they could be more friendly. Overall I give three stars for the performance and give the staff negative stars because they have the worst attitude problems. Grow up!
Great vibes but the bartenders aren’t the best. When I asked if they had any type of tequila that was anything but a well (I.e., don julio, patron, casamigos) the man said they didn’t carry it, which was quite shocking to me. He proceeded to offer me a tequila that would be $40 per drink (because it was top shelf), which is not what I asked him to do. Regardless, if you’re looking for a fun night out, this is an okay place to go. There are some places in the area with a better ambiance.

Read and heard great things. Just today, came by right at 5:00 and I could see someone in there but the door was locked. Walked down the block and upon turning around, saw a person in overalls (what seemed to be) unlocking the door. Tried to come in and the door is still locked. Wanted to give the place the benefit or the doubt as I am a local and Walked down to San Carlos Beach. Upon return the door is still locked but someone is clearly in there. Not sure I'll try again today or in the near future. Very disappointing.
Stopped in this past Saturday night and even though there was a decent amount of people, the whole place was dead. The couches inside looked dingy and dirty even in the dim lighting. The patio was better and had a firepit. Drinks were very overpriced and lacked flavor and liquor. The fact that they sell Cheez its as a food option for $7 was hilarious.
Did not have a fun experience here, and did not feel welcome at all. We were recommended this place by a local brewery and had high hopes. Our group consisting of young adults in our mid-late twenties came in and the woman at the bar seemed very skeptical about our ages. We gladly show ID and the woman still seems very skeptical about our ages and continues to take my order, yet NOT making ANY eye contact with me and was very cold. Overall we did not feel wanted there, and it was only 10PM on a Friday night. The drinks were good, but the experience screamed cultural appropriation (off-beat belly dancing, graffiti on the walls, and wannabe spiritual decor) YIKES... we left after finishing our drinks, and don’t plan on coming back.
Lame. That's all I'm going to say. Not a fan. Don't see why people come to this place. 20-30 minute wait times to buy a drink. And they charged me a cover charge to get in the door apparently for a dance dj when no one is actually dancing.
We were charged $20 each just because musicians were playing when we were there. I understand the sentiment in supporting musicians, but this is ridiculous.
Had a party of 7, 5 women and 2 men. Was told to wait 20 minutes to go in because they were at full capacity but someone walked up and was able to go in. We saw two tables open too. Then the two guys behind us were able to go in right away. Not sure what that was about but we just left bc we felt unwelcome.
Hostess turned us away on a Friday night after ubering to the location. She said it was a private event, but didn't have a guest list. Then she proceeded to let in several people behind us after checking their Identification. Just a completely rude person who decided to try and ruin our evening for no reason.
My two friends and I were not let inside because they were at capacity. We waited outside until a large group left, at which point they told us we still couldn’t come in because they were really behind on orders. It’s baffling to me that we couldn’t even sit inside (there were plenty of open tables and couches). After waiting outside for about 45 minutes, we left. This was my first time here and I’d hesitate to give it another shot.
Pretty bad experience there tonight. Sat at the bar and was ignored. There was a DJ and I was informed that there was a $5 surcharge for that, really. Drink was good but I wouldn't go back. And I live just up the street. They made good on this some time later and gave me a refund.
The most pretentious BS place I've experienced on the Monterey Peninsula in my 30 years here. Last time like that was in San Francisco in the 1990s. Don't know what loungy/DEI/uppity vibe they are going for but if you want to get a surprise cover charge for a band on a Sunday + an insistent pouty and insulting ID check when you are in your 60's then this is the place to go!
Was here for a private event. The staff was overwhelmed as the event was apparently larger than they had planned for. With that said I still waited an hour and 45 minutes for the drinks that I had ordered only to be told that they were out of the Modern Love. I then tried to order alternate drinks as a replacement to then be told that it was beer only at that point. I conceded to getting beers in exchange for the cocktails never coming out. After 20 more minutes the beers had not been provided either so I asked to just cancel it all and have my card back. At this point I was accused of stealing and the bartender claimed she had made all of my drinks and that I owed the bar for all of them. I know very well that I spent 2 hours in the bar and at no point did I receive a drink so it was very frustrating to be accused of stealing. I understand that the staff was very busy and overworked but I never received my drinks after 2 hours and just wanted my card so I could leave and was instead falsely accused of trying to get away without paying.
I’d give it a zero if I could. A group of friends and I (there were 6 of us) had planned for weeks to celebrate a wedding anniversary in the bar. According to their website the bar was open at 6pm for happy hour. When we all arrived we found the bar dark and locked. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. Some of my friends had come as far away as San Francisco to be here. I don’t know if the bar has gone out of business or if it changed it’s hours. I’d really like to know
Myself and my 56 year old husband went for an after dinner drink and were told they couldn’t serve us because we didn’t have our ID. Talk about ridiculous! Guess they don’t need the business and 4 total people at the bar is enough for them. Super disappointing and for the bartenderess saying “I’m sooooooooooo sorry” didn’t seem authentic. Yuck!
Stopped by for the first time ever, based on a recommendation to try the "Libra Cocktail". It was the actual day of my girlfriend's birthday (10/6). We show up after dinner and the place is half-empty, which is fine with us, and we stand at the bar and then ask for the cocktail (and I order a beer). At this point, we are now informed there will be live Jazz later that night. We are asked to pay a 10 dollar cover each, for a bar we are already inside to cover a show that hasn't even setup and would not be started by the time we finished our drink and left. I explain it's her birthday, we would just like to try their "Libra Cocktail" and then leave. They say it's not possible. So we would have paid about 20 dollars for the luxury of ordering a drink and paying for the drink separately and then leaving a half empty bar. Absolutely missed the plot as bartenders/management. Serve the drink, say happy birthday, and wish them well on the way out the door. It would be different if there was a show about to go on, or a packed house, or some situation in which we are doing anything other than having a birthday cocktail and leaving. Do yourself a favor and skip this joint. Greed like this really spoils the appetite anyway.
Just a chill low end bar, it's pretty much the lite and cheap version of The Abbey in West Hollywood.Everyone was so uptight--the lady and the bartender just kept brushing us off like he or she was deaf, it was not even that loud and it was before band time. It's not queer friendly and it does not take 10minutes to brew an herbal tea. This place is just a joke--filled with fake Prada to nada people. The bartenders are acting like it's Beverly Hills, when it's clearly Monterey.
Saturday night, Valentine’s Day, 7 p.m. There were 35 patrons in the bar and only one bartender. No barback, no help. Completely unacceptable for a busy holiday weekend night. Won’t be back.
I’m only giving this place a 1 star because the security guard had great customer service. But trust me when I say this place has the slowest bartenders. ( At least on the weekends). I go to bars to catch a buzz. This place should be called sober city. Good luck getting your drinks, maybe you’ll have better luck than me.

Yuck!
