Fun place to share a fire with your dog. The calamari appetizer is fantastic, but way too much for two people if you order anything else, and we did because the sweet potato tots are also amazing. The shrimp tacos wiped us out. Oh, and the beer is good too.
Great fried pickles...also their Calamari is really insane fried in a tempura base that you must eat the minute served or it will be greasy. Not horrible but greasy, just it first and you will be impressed. Back to the pickles...like really really well done and the dipping sauce on the side is a great mix. The beers are good but their Porter is really good....and best of all Happy Hour goes 4 to 6.30pm so not to be missed. Friendly staff...
This place is great. The beer is pretty darned good and it's within walking distance of both Fieldwork and Alvarado brewing for a great beer tasting night. The food was excellent and well prepared. Our server was a very nice guy and prompt to make sure we had everything we needed. Will be coming back for sure.
I really enjoyed it; food, beer, and the environment. We sat outside at one of the fire tables. The food was delicious, the beer was good enough to get distributed. I had the barrel aged cherry stout as well as the normal cherry stout. I preferred the normal one, it had a smoother flavor as well as a stronger chocolate flavor. Our server could have been moving quicker, and maybe more predictive, but we were in no hurry. Would recommend!
We sat at the bar and received the most outstanding service. We enjoyed a Vietnamese Lamb Burger and salmon tacos. The meal was delicious. We enjoyed several tasty beers that included 'The Best Part of Waking Up Stout to 'Killer Dismount'. Did I mention the service was amazing? It was!!!!
Great cozy clean place to watch sports. Great happy hour and large portions. Great malty beers offered also!!! Yahoo!!! Jeff was our bartender and he was so kind and friendly! Was a great experience.. The pictures on line don't do it justice. Thx for a great time!
The happy Hour is awesome and the staff and renovation is great. But please for the love of god BRING BACK THE FRIED PICKLES!!!!!!
Stopped into the bar with a buddy on Friday night. Happy hour; I had a pint of 1st Slice Stout and the Calamari which was fresh and light, not overly battered. Service; Marley the bartender, very personable and accommodating. Ambience; warm, cozy, upscale.
Great place to enjoy some time away from the daily grind. Catch up with friends, family, and enjoy friendly bartenders, especially Trinidad, guys a natural. As I dont drink alcohol, I heard he can make a phenomenal inclusion. Not sure if you like it, try a sample, I'm sure you'll be impressed.
We had a phenomenal time at Peter B’s. We heard about Peter B’s through the Edible magazine and wanted to come by to try the sustainable grain they use in their beer and it was delicious! Service was 10/10; our server Ramel was incredibly personable, attentive, and kind. He was able to make great menu recommendations considering we were very indecisive. We’ll definitely be back soon! Make sure to try the garlic fries with clam chowder.
The food was so good - definitely recommend. Our experience was cut short due to some customers (completely out of their control) was making us uncomfortable, but I had to come on and just say how wonderful the staff handled the situation. They constantly tried to intervine and check on us to make sure we were ok, when my girlfriends and I had had enough the waiter went out of their way to get security and walk us all the way to our car. We especially want to give thanks Eddy and the entire staff for making us feel so safe during the situation. We can’t thank the Brewpub enough for handling the situation so well. ♥️
A great place close to the Portola Hotel. The beer was good. The garlic fries are amazing. Don't take a date here if you plan on kissing. The staff was super friendly. I had the Ahi Tuna sandwich. The ginger dressing on the slaw was light and provided sweet and heat. The tuna was seared perfectly. A little pricey for somewhere not near the water but a great value for being so close to the beach.
The beer choices are incredible and mostly local from what I saw, definitely get a flight to try a little bit of everything. I wasn't sure what to expect from a restaurant so near a tourist destination but it was incredible. I'm going to be dreaming about that strawberry salad, too.
We stopped by for dinner and were able to sit outside at a table with a fire pit where we enjoyed small bites and amazing beer selection. The wide range of menu items made it difficult to decide what to order but our server Eddie was so freaking helpful, easily the best service we have ever had. Thank you Eddie! We will hands down be back.
Met up with some friends to watch playoff football in the bar area. Atmosphere was fun and lively, our server Ramel was consistent and prompt, and our food was truly delicious. The cheese curds and brussel sprouts appetizers were amazing as usual, but what really blew me away was the short rib ravioli. One of the most delicious meals I’ve had in a restaurant in quite a while! Highly recommend Peter B’s for truly amazing local food and beer!!
This place is slightly hard to find from outside the hotel, but well worth it. They have a fully stocked bar and a good beer list. The food is good. The service is quick and friendly, and we ha a really good time there. It’d be a great place to watch a game. It’s easy to talk to people, as it’s noisy but not at all hard to hear someone. Great ambience, good vibes, go.
So incredible! Every menu item we tried was delicious, and the ones we saw others order looked great! The craft beer is great and reasonably priced. Totally dog friendly. The service was way way beyond expectations. The vibe is fun. A super great spot for the end of a long vacation day. I will definitely come back, and send everyone I know.
Our favorite spot for casual dining in Monterey. Solid comfort food, friendly service and a fun atmosphere. I love being able to order tasting-sized servings of the numerous beers they have on tap.
If you’re looking for a restaurant that serves food after 8pm on a Saturday in Monterey, you’ve found your spot. But in all seriousness, food is good, portions are ample, and they have so many different types of fries.
Outstanding bartender! Maybe the best whiskey/bourbon selections on the Monterey Peninsula.
Amazing service and food!! We got seated immediately and served pretty quick. Our server Rio did an amazing job getting us set up with some drink recommendations and having amazing customer service. The energy of the whole place is very welcoming and I would most definitely come back.
The best espresso martini i have ever had. THANK YOU SO MUCH, ALEX :) we will definitely be returning
A true local gem, Peter B's is Monterey's original craft beer pub with a chef that knows quality food requires quality ingredients. beer dreams come true. Their fried pickles are to die for and farmed with much lower sodium than traditional fried pickles. You also can't pass on their cheese curds. If your lucky enough to catch the Scotch Egg, then you are privileged and you must order! Orlur server Erik killed it with our visit! Garlic fries are incredible. We stopped by for happy hour with our pups where they were served water on the patio along and welcomed to sit on the comfortable cushions to lounge. We will definitely be back.
Came with with family canine member. Instant seating with Dog water bowl provided. Happy hour food was really good. Dog food was even better (according to our dog Riley) bathroom immaculate. Highly recommend.
Great beers, great range of food, great service. The chowder is wonderful, with a lovely smokiness from the bacon. The Diablo burger is kind of insane: jalapenos on the bottom, then the patty and cheese and bacon, then two jalapeno poppers - and another popper on top of the bun! - with a lovely fire from the ghost chilli sauce.
Good beers, outdoor seating and bark bowls for your four-legged friends. Can’t ask for much more!
Mackenzie was our server. He was thoughtful and responsible. He was quick and knowledgeable about the menu.
On a business trip to Monterey I wanted a couple adult beverages to finish my long travel day. I love ciders and after a bit of homework i saw Peter B's had a decent selection so I rolled the dice. Great choice. Very friendly staff, a great energy/atmosphere and a menu that made me wish I hadn't had dinner two hours ago. These folks earned mad respect with me when I looked more closely at their menu, they are very pet friendly. This is the first time I've ever seen menu items for me and my canines. Me and my dogs can have dinner together! I'll definitely come back!
After a 14hr drive out hotel clerk recommended this pub. We went in tired, hungry and not knowing what we wanted. We were sat quickly and our waiter was promptly there to bring us some water. After a little small talk he quickly recommended a couple beers and a few entrees. The beer was absolutely amazing and just what my wife and I needed. The entrees was above and beyond!! Our waiter was the best waiter we have ever had. Was prompt to our needs. We asked him to give us a suggestion on something to do the following day. He gave us great recommendations and even wrote us an itinerary. We are only here in Monterey for a quick business trip, however our time at Peter B's and our waiter made this trip one my wife and I will tell our grandkids about.
Atmosphere was better with the old design. The updated remodel is okay. Just not as cool as it used to be. No more pool tables, bar games or free popcorn machine.
My wife and I finally got to come back after not being here for a few years! Needless to say the place looks great! Angel was our bartender and he was awesome. The deals on their food and drinks continue to stay one step ahead off others in the area. We will always come back to Peter B's whenever we're in town! Until next time Peter B's!
We had such a wonderful experience at Peter B’s! The service was exceptional from start to finish. Marvin was especially amazing—so accommodating with the kids and incredibly understanding. The entire staff was super sweet and made us feel genuinely welcomed. The happy hour was fantastic, and the amount of food we got for the price was surprisingly generous. Everything was delicious, and the atmosphere made it easy to relax and enjoy ourselves. Overall, we had a great time here and will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend Peter B’s!
Amazing food! We arrived at happy hour (4-9pm) the $5 fried pickles were 10/10, I had the $5 seared ahi tuna on cucumber appetizer 10/10, the deep dish Pepperoni pizza 10/10, the $5 hot wings 10/10 and the $5 pints of beer? 10/10. Very cool restaurant and kind of well hidden away from the tourists. (I'm a tourist) It is the perfect location for Sunday football! Will be back next time we vacation here.
Not so hidden, but tucked away sports bar, brew pub and family eatery. I guess it's part of the Portola Hotel. From the lobby, out the large doors to the north then left right away. Can't miss it if you've gotten this far. Newly remodeled, so less charm, but makes up for it with shiny cleanliness and sparkle which is getting harder to find. Walls of TVs and there was live music when we were there. The space probably wasn't designed for live music, but I know it's a draw for others. Front, wait and bar staff were friendly and did an excellent job serving our table. Attentive without hovering. Basic sports bar menu done with a few extras and done better than most similar eateries. We were all satisfied with burgers, sandwiches, pizza and a couple salads which we shared. The crispy n fried items weren't too heavy and the food itself was quality cuts and selections. We're not drinkers but the others in the restaurant seemed pleased. I'm sure the other reviews will chime in. We'll be back. If you're in the area for a few days I'd put it on your list when everyone in your group wants something different from each other.
Brought my family of 5 here for lunch today! Great place to watch sports and is family friendly. New remodel is first class and extremely clean. Waitress and manager were on top of any need we may have had. Every item of food we ordered was excellent and kids approved as well. Beer selection was good and bar was top notch. Dessert time came and we couldn’t make up our mind, manager comped us the skillet chocolate chip cookie and vanilla ice cream. Tremendous! Don’t sleep on this place it is a hidden gem just steps away from the wharf. Leaps and bounds cleaner than any restaurant on the wharf so it’s wife approved! Will for sure return whenever I’m in the area. Thank you again Peter b’s! 👍👍
Nice hole in the wall type sports bar restaurant. The service was excellent, wait staff were attentive but not so overly attentive that it was a bother. One of the only places I can recall the wait staff actually waited until we didn’t have our mouth full of food to talk to us. Could have been the timing, but after 2 or 3 times checking I doubt it. I got the sly signature burger. Food was excellent, seasoned properly and it came to me cooked like I asked- burger medium rare, egg over hard no runny yolk. Actually the only establishment to cook as asked on our trip to Monterey.
What a delightful hidden gem! So glad we happened upon this spot while walking around Monterey. The eggplant might be one of the best I've had, but more than that it was such a pleasure to sit by the bar and talk to the lovely servers while enjoying their unique brews. A quiet, lovely respite from the craziness of the rest of the city. Highly recommend!
I dined here with my lady last night and the food was absolutely phenomenal. We were dined by Spencer and the rest of his team were very helpful as well. Spencer made sure to greet us, offer us drinks , and answer any questions we had. We had a couple of appetizers which were the eggplant and then the ahi ahi which was also mentioned by Spencer. We got Blood Orange drinks ( non-alcoholic) and they were really good and refreshing. For our entrees we got a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato bisque and prime rib Chili with Jalapeno cornbread. All the food was very delicious, the seasonings were something I've never experienced personally. The staff were all very polite and on it. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you are in the area. We will be back again in the near future. Thank you all 🙏.
We came here for dinner and decided just to do a bunch of appetizers. It was all delicious, but especially the sliders. You can also sample most of the beers so you can be sure you like it before ordering more. The staff was incredibly nice and we had a great time. We will definitely be going back for actual entrees next time.
I came here for lunch and stayed until happy hour. We had the cebiche to start. I enjoyed a flight to sample plenty of the IPAs they had to offer. For entrees we had a BBQ bacon burger and the fish and chips. For desert, we enjoyed a chocolate chip cake. The food was delicious and really hit the spot. The beer was great too. My favorite was the bodacious bull double IPA. I stayed for the happy hour and enjoyed a pizza, and a few rounds of the chicken wings. Again, the food was amazing. The brew was on point. It does get crowded so I got lucky I had already been sitting for a good while. Definitely making another stop here during this trip. The service was outstanding. Thank you Peter B’s for the amazing food and beer!
My fiancée and I found this place while we looking for a place to have dinner. It was very delicious and tasty from the pizza and beer. The service was excellent and waiters were friendly, always checking and asking if we need more drinks or food. Recommended.
Enjoyed their taco Tuesday- the weather was perfect, the tacos & Margarita were great, it was a lovely place to sit and enjoy an early dinner. Wish we had known about this special taco Tuesday2 months ago, we would have been there several times but now we'll look forward to doing it next summer. 👍🍹
Used to come here for drinks and apps with my buddy to watch sports events. Cocktails and beer are great. The entrees are okay but the appetizers are great. So it’s a great spot for drinks & apps before you go to the Wharf or concert.
Wasn't overly impressed with the beer selection, but that's not on them as an establishment. Stopped in for appetizers and a drink or two the second day we were in town and the atmosphere is nice, bit crowded but it's only of only a few watering holes that's open "late" in Old Monterey. Pickle chips were delicious, salad was great big, service was a bit slow but they were slammed also. All in all, not a bad spot.
Eddy, our server, was simply the best. He was attentive, easy going, and personal. The food was good, but maybe not at the price they were charging. It's a hotel restaurant, I get the price will be higher cause tourism, but I've had the same food for cheaper. The dog menu was a nice touch, and all the staff were great.
I wanted to try one of the four dark beers that they have but they only had one and it was a little too sweet and it was actually not very tasty. The service was great and the food was good. I had fish and chips and I enjoyed it. It was a little pricey for what you got. But, it was less expensive if you had it in a Carmel restaurant.
After the remodel, it is now one open space so it is super loud. I couldn't hear what my wife was saying. A bunch of TVs, but of course the audio is from the football game and not the soccer game so it is like watching advertisements with a bit of game in between. All in all it was better before the remodel.
We went on a Sunday night and it was somewhat busy. Beers were good. I got the Stout, it was nice and smooth. My husband got a bacon cheeseburger that was excellent. I got the bavarian pretzel, which was also good. Nice place to sit and have a drink. 4 stars because the service was a bit slow. We would go again.
This spot used to be much better. The beer definitely is not as good as it used to be. It’s fine, but not great. It’s been about 7 years since I’ve been here. The space is still nice. The service was good. I had the fried pickles and they were really disappointing, probably the worst I’ve ever had. They do have a decent happy hour menu.
Solid happy hour - beer, wine, apps - $5 each. No liquor on HR & they use hot honey as a garnish on too many things (like ceviche). We will be back.
The food quality has improved since the remodel and menu revamp. The shrimp ceviche and crispy cheese curds were delicious, especially accompanied by a craft beer. The pepperoni pizza was average and a little too pricey in my opinion. The family missed the old look since it had more character compared to the new sterile look. The popcorn machine will be missed since it’s the first thing my little ones noticed was absent. Overall, better quality food, good service, but poorly executed decor.
Love their food and the service was outstanding. So I went back there last Friday after the reopening, their amber ale was chill and amazing. Then, I went back again on Monday and their beer was less chilled... that is why I take one star off for the review. Their nachos was great and totally loved their shrimp ceviche. Well, I am coming back this Friday and we will see the temp for my beer.
Our first visit after the pandemic to the place, which we considered our favorite brewery before the pandemic. Let's start with good. Service. Excellent. The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. And that's what you usually need from your waiter. Food.It seems that the menu didn't change after reopening, but the quality of food definitely is higher than it was before. Simple, but delicious. The prices, however, have gone up. Honestly, I cannot justify 18/19$ for starters. I understand that the location justifies a bit higher pricing, but it's still too much. Beer. Our biggest disappointment. Before we were going to Peter B's simply because they had the best beer in the town. Right now -it's just average. It's not bad. You feel it's fresh. But taste wise it's just OK, and we tried all the kinds. So in general 3 stars. If you can get a table outside and talk to your friends, why not to stop sometimes. But I won't probably go to simply enjoy a beer.
I have ordered some drink and tasted like lemonade order a second drink they said house rum did nit taste like rum
Very good beer. Good (not great) food. Prices are what you would expect at a hotel bar But the service is awful. We were ignored initially and then later when we wanted another beer. Then our waitress declared she was going on her 20 minute break. This place needs an on-site Manager who can manage lazy, chatty servers.
EDIT 2022: Post-covid this place is admittedly pretty disappointing to me. No more free popcorn, smaller menu, higher prices, and the amazing happy hour is now a very unimpressive happy hour. Very little incentive to return other than the location, and I rarely go. Food is good, location is excellent, but the beer! Some really adventurous and tasty brewing, top notch original stuff. I've been coming for a while, and theres always new ideas coming down the pipe. Definitely one of my favorite places to hang in Monterey, and it's much more quiet than other joints. Great atmosphere, I hope it stays open forever. My singular dislike is the TV's everywhere, I dont much care for that in my taprooms. But they also have free popcorn, so that's neat.
Beers and cocktails were good to very good. Food was not impressive. I had a calzone with less flavor than my morning eggs. He had the ribs, which were OK, but very fatty and the BBQ sauce wasn't great. The calamari appetizer was also bland, because they were large tentacles, not the rings. I did like the cheese curds, and the garlic chili aioli that came with them was awesome. Service was nice. Or server very knowledgeable.
The beers are decent and cheap, free popcorn, food is good (sometimes), but the service isn’t great. We were in tonight and got some garlic fries that were obviously very old, and had possibly been refried, they were all oily and tough. And our server never even asked how the food was, we ended up just not eating them.
I really wanted to like this place. The service was excellent, top notch, my wife and I just didn't like the food. We had the cheese curds as an appetizer, as a former Wisconsin resident we always order the cheese curds if they are offered, however this is the first time we have ever not finished the cheese curds. Something was just odd about them, I think it was the type of cheese they used, too gooey. Anyways, I had the Diablo burger and it was just okay, the burger wasnt that spicy and just felt greasy. My wife had the street tacos and didn't feel well afterward. I will say that we were not feeling the best that day so the food may have just not sat right with us. The beer was pretty good and our server was excellent!
Sweet potato tots were really good. Great choices of beers for the flight. My flight came just 5 beer glasses on the bar with nothing telling me what they were. The table over came on a flight board with markers telling what beers they were. Not sure why mine didn't come that way besides that the bartender didn't seem to really want to be there. I'd probably try it again. Hoping for different service.
10.5.2023. Update: same meal as last time. All else, curds, fish tacos were great however, the "cook" was not into making a good burger. My medium ordered burger came well done and "pressed/smashed" against the grill hence, no moisture left in the patty. Who teaches "smash & kill" to their kitchen staff? The bun was nothing but stale, part of it was hard. The previous visit, they overcooked the burger but didn't get the moisture pressed out of the meat. The food is inconsistent. During this visit we were limited on time. I let the server know of the food issues, but not until after we paid out. They probably would have remedied..... ....better to get it right the first time. It' a $23 burger that is not worth the risk. Maybe they have a better "chef" on the weekend and a short order cook during the week. NOTE: The following review was earlier in 2023. We ordered cheese curds, a portola burger (upgraded to garlic fries), and fish tacos. I ordered my burger medium rare to preserve some flavor, burger came out medium well. To my surprise, the burger meat was still flavor-filled and moist. The bun to burger ratio is good because the bun is super soft, about 1/2" top and bottom, holds up and compliments the beef. Cheese curds.... ...they were so good (added ranch dressing) we ate 1/2 the plate before the photo. Huge serving and nicely breaded! The fish tacos were large and had a good amount of grilled fish topped with cabbage and a side of Mango sauce. They were good and may have benefitted with a bit of spice and salt. Lastly, I enjoyed the beer flight. A choice of 5 four ounce glasses for $14.
We visited this restaurant with our dogs and sat outside. The restaurant has various dishes for your pets. (Our two dogs did not like the quinoa and chicken.) Happy hour food is decent. Drinks are a bit sweet and light on the alcohol. Service is a bit slow because it can get quickly crowded.
Started with a mix of warm and cold beers on my flight. Very disappointing for that to happen at a place that brews. Ordered all their IPAs and managed to finish 1. All the others reminded me too much of drinking apple juice, may be a low IBU thing that I’m not used to so leaving that out of my rating. There was a keg beer/malt thing I tried that had very interesting flavors that I think people may like but it did not agree with my stomach. Ordered their burger and was as underwhelming as the beers. Patty and bun were both dry and the vegetables were ‘lifeless’. Even the red onion managed to have the soft texture like it was left out for 4+ hours in a warm area. Bun had the crumbly feel so I just dipped the patty in ketchup to finish it. If the burger came with sauce and I didn’t have to assemble it I probably would’ve finished it but left me wanting a bottle of ketchup they filled a tiny cup from. Hopefully that was just a bad night but I won’t be returning to find out since I’m just passing through. It felt like there was more waiters standing around than there were customers when I went. Some of them were hanging out in booths chatting / on their phones.
Staff, Rebecca was great! Burgers and chicken sandwich were bland, no sauce, no character, just not great and wouldn't want to ever eat it again. Fries were good. Cocktails were syrupy without a taste of alcohol. I understand it's a brewery but if the drinks aren't great, just don't serve them. Amber ale was good! Overall, wouldn't recommend and definitely wouldn't go back. Lots of tvs for sports so if you go for a game and a beer it's probably great.
Used to love this place. The calamari was very greasy. Everything else was, well, only fine. I'm local. I remember when the food was better and the prices were about half. Now 3 appetizers and 2.5 beers cost $75 before tip. This is unruly. Jeff, as always, is the nicest bartender. I just hope they eventually offer a locals menu.
The food and drinks are great but whoever they contracted to design their remodel must be the same people that design community college cafeterias cause thats what it looks like now. It went from having a great, dark yet cozy and comfortable atmosphere, with solid wood tables one expects while having craft beer and steak, to now an overly bright, overly open cafeteria with cheap wobbly furniture, and stock image decorations straight from amazon that one can expect while eating a homepacked ham and cheese sandwhich between classes. I dont understand how they could've spent so much on a remodel, be closed for months, and the place be worse! But like I said, the food and beer is good.
Was expecting much better. Great bar for watching sports. Great service too. However, both the beer and food should be in the penalty box. I had 2 different lagers and both lacked flavor and any depth. The brussel sprouts, which are staple these days, sounded good but came out like the beer, lacking flavor. The salmon was excellent. For much better beer and food and multiple TVs, go to Alvarado Street Brewery a block away.
I came for the sweet potato tots, which were perfectly crispy and definitely the highlight of my visit. The live music also added a nice touch to the atmosphere. Unfortunately, my server misheard my order and brought out the wrong burger. On top of that, the toppings were served on the side, which I initially mistook for a small salad. Putting it together was awkward, and once assembled, the burger kept falling apart. The flavor was decent but nothing special. Overall, the tots and music stood out, but the burger experience was frustrating, and I’d only consider coming back just for the tots.
Located just outside of the Portola Hotel and Spa, and offered both indoor and outdoor dining. Loved the relaxed atmosphere and live music. Our waitress was incredibly nice, but maybe a little too comfortable. She was at our table for longer conversations than we had energy for and if we hadn’t been traveling all day, we might have felt differently about it. She even stayed to watch us try a dish then lingered for more conversation. She later placed a hand on my daughter’s back, which we recognize is a way of communication for some people, but it made my daughter uncomfortable. The restaurant had an extensive list of beers so I ordered a flight of catrina, no maiden, sakura and spice lab 4. Of the 4, I liked Sakura the most and spice lab the least. We ordered their Kobe sliders, clam chowder, California club and shrimp ceviche. The Kobe sliders weren’t spectacular, but they tasted good. Juicy and seasoned. The clam chowder looked and tasted like prepackaged soup. I guess I expected better given the area we were in. The California club was the winning dish. The bread was lightly toasted, but still soft and ingredients tasted fresh. The shrimp ceviche was”wow” and not in a good way. Overall, the dish needed seasoning and heat. The sliced radish tasted as though it was pickled in dish water. One bite and whole dish was ruined. We paid $115.87 with tip which was incredibly reasonable, but don’t think we would make a return visit.
Beer is good, but food is for sure not. Got a calzone and split with my gf. It was very undercooked, kinda slimy on the inside because of this. There were no excuses either since it was empty inside. This is my 2nd time going, and I had bad food both times. I would skip this and go somewhere else.
This is solely a review of the front desk experience. I met with an employee at the front desk to check in. They were extremely rude, passive aggressive, and made sarcastic comments about my partner and I while we waited for a table. While the manager was professional and offered to make accommodations, I did not want to stay to eat after the treatment I received. I may try to eat here again, but not today. There appears to be excellent outdoor music and the food appears to be great.
After reading a recent article describing the renovation that Peter B's underwent, I decided to give this establishment another shot after a poor experience the year prior. My previous experience was marred by awful food, so I was hopeful that the new menu would fix, or at minimum improve, that issue. I was very wrong - I ordered the sweet heat pizza and have now had to stay near a restroom for the past 36 hours. Unfortunately, I did not take a photo of said item because I did not envision myself writing a review of this establishment. The pizza appeared to be on a pre baked crust with little to no sauce and placed under a broiler or salamander very briefly. The cheese wasn't even fully melted. Most toppings fell off if you were to pick up a slice. My partner ordered a burger which was better, but still nearing bad. Soggy bottom bun while the top half of the bun was crispy? The fries were decent. The beers I've had here are actually alright. So after their $2M renovation (per magazine article) they have yet to figure out that food is important in a restaurant. It is extremely low quality and anyone visiting should highly reconsider. If you're going for a beer and a game the place is fine, otherwise eat elsewhere.
I went there during happy hours. The food and beer were pretty good along with the prices. The biggest setback for this restaurant/brewery is and if it continues to be the same, will be their customer service. The theme of the customer service was inattentive and no self-awareness. I walked to the host and I asked if I could get a table outside. She didn't acknowledge or say anything and just walked outside. A few minutes later, she said, "Oh, I wanted you to follow me." I followed her outside and she said, "There are no tables." I pointed to the three other tables that were opened outside. She didn't respond, but just walked there. Based on the previous experience, I assumed and followed her. I sat around with no water or drinks service for a while. Then, this guy came out. He seemed frazzled. Not frazzled as in they were busy, but frazzled as in he might have been high or wasn't sure how to do his job. Which is fine--most of us have been there. He took our drinks and gave the wrong instructions about happy hour. We questioned him and he said he was wrong. We got our food before we got our drinks (beer)--which is fine, but not normal based on my experience. When we finished our food, another waiter just walked up and grabbed our dishes without asking if it was fine to grab them. That same waiter came back around and grabbed my glass cup. Something must've clicked, because as he walked away with my glass cup, he asked, "Can I take this for you?" This guy was definitely wierd. There was one instance where he took a tray of water up the steps where no one existed nor was that an area where the restaurant operated. Then, he comically looked around, confused, and walked back down the stairs to where the customers were. It's possible he was high or briefly blacked out. The whole time (about 30 minutes), our main waiter never came back to attend our table. We wanted more drinks (we had only had one drink at this point). Several other tables had to flag him down. This was odd, because I watched him walking around a lot. Not walking around as though he was working, but that he was just walking around aimlessly. We finally flagged him down and grabbed more drinks. We decided not to order more food because the customer service was unbearable and very comedic. Also, it was very sad to watch these guys be so bad. The second waiter (maybe a busboy) continued to walk around awkwardly and awkwardly interacted with the tables. It was entertaining, but very sad to watch and deal with. I recommend customer service and social awareness training for the staff. The food was good, but the wait staff was so bad (the multiple individuals we interacted with), that we knew it wasn't a rare occurrence--it seem to be a culture of work or a culture of hiring the lowest paid and least experienced people. I'm really rooting for these guys. The food was good and the restaurant is good for Monterey, but this was heavily overshadowed by the cringiness of the wait staff. I'm also rooting for the wait staff. If they can overcome their social awkwardness and situational awareness, it will help them beyond this job. At the end of the day, this is just a job.
went because their patio was marked as the most dog friendly in monte Rey on the city website. Before we even got inside someone came out and told us the patio was closed (it was 59 degrees outside and two other people had a fire going on the patio with good) and then was immediately directed to go to another restaurant that did allow dogs? Jacks (looked it up. more expensive, and they don’t allow dogs inside either, not sure why this was an option given by a person working here). Had a much better and easier time at dust bowl brewing. We tried going out of our way to a local place and we paid the price. Don’t do it if you want to use their fire places on their patios! Too much to ask.
