Opinions de Red Lion Tavern Navasota
We heard about a new special bar in Navasota we drove from Spring on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and we were not des appointed Grimm the bartender was Awsome & recommend to go to their speakeasy next door at hotel. This is a true gem. Comfortable bistro with great ambiance, service, and a fresh, flavorful, and creative menu. If you’re there for dinner try his chili!
Wow! What a hidden gem. We've been unable to catch them open on Sunday but finally got in. The food was unbelievable. We had the deviled eggs medley, filet with bourbon demi-glaze and ribeye with compound butter. All cooked perfectly to order which is typically hard to find. This was from the happy hour menu! We'll be back to see their full menu.
Delicious food, and our waitress was outstanding. We started with the Triple Play Deviled Eggs. AMAZING! Followed up with the Bacon Bacon Bacon Lettuce And Tomato, which we split. Paired that with the chili tater tots. Both were really delicious. Finished with blackberry cobbler. Be sure you leave room for this - so worth it!! Only flaw - tots and eggs were a bit on the salty side.
Wow! Such a wonderful space with incredible food. The bar area is gorgeous. We had the pulled pork grilled cheese, grilled chicken salad, peppers and chicharones, cheeseburger, and deviled eggs. Best deviled eggs we've ever had. The pulled pork grilled cheese was the table's unanimous favorite food. The kitchen area is open to full view and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. We can't wait to return!
What a gem!!! From the decor, to the music, to the staff and owner… what a great place! The food… HAHA let me tell you, I got the black angus steak burger with tater tots and wow chef this has to be the BEST burger I’ve eaten in TX - smoky tangy spicy sweet salty flavors GOT DAMN BROTHER!! tater tots were phenomenal, I am not really sure what seasoning was used but they were great!! Seriously give the chef a raise, wow!!!! Went in not expecting much, and left wanting more, will definitely drive the one hour drive just to come eat again at this place.
We decided to try the Red Board Tavern because we heard about its chef, Chef J. Payton. It some bigger towns we have been in it was common to hear about a new top chef coming to town of you were into that kind of thing and read the restaurant rags. Since moving to College STATION there is no inside scoop. So we were surprised to hear about this chef and in all places Navasota. So we made a reservation and headed out. It turned out to be a rainy miserable night and there was a parade that evening. All this was a rather negative foreboding. However, we were greeted warmly they took our wet putter clothing and apologized even for the weather and thanked us for braving it and the traffic. The food was fantastic and deserves much more detail but phone died after the first picture so darn we are going to have to visit there again. The chef even visited the table to check on food and service. In general terms each dish was composed of delicate bit complex flavors with an amazing depth. I had the cioppino. The broth was deep and rich the seafood was tender and fresh. All too often the seafood tastes like it has been simmering for hours and gets tough but this was definitely constructed to order. My first impression is that if you intend to try it you should do it soon because I am sure prices will be going up. Compared to some offerings in college station this is higher quality and at a deep value to a restaurant like Christopher’s. I am going to do a follow up review. I will have more pictures and details but I want to get the word out.
This place is amazing and it is a must try for Navasota. It’s a little hidden off to the side but it is good no matter what time, breakfast or dinner. Me and my fiancée even decided we are going with them for our rehearsal dinner.
We had a wonderful meal with artichoke dip and French onion soup followed by the wedge salad with beef medallions and a cheeseburger. The blackberry bourbon cocktail was a tasty riff on a mule. The service was attentive without being intrusive.
Amazing spicy chicken sandwich on tasty roll with excellent tater tots. Buffalo chicken wrap with steak fries also superb. And blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream for dessert was outstanding! Service was excellent too. Owner stopped us and said “how is everyone treating you? Please tell us of something’s wrong”. Everything was so delicious!!!
Unbelievable delicious breakfast! One of the best waffles ever! Service is so friendly and I love the fun atmosphere! What a hidden gem of a restaurant!!
The place is to die for! Beautiful atmosphere and amazing food! The filet is delicious and the side were great! Lindsey was fabulous and gave amazing service! 5 stars!
We had a lovely lunch. The red snapper and blackened shrimp were delicious. Theresa was friendly and attentive. Thanks!
The food was delicious (literally everything we ordered), the atmosphere is lovely with great music, and the staff was incredibly attentive. Our waitress, Lauren, was the best. Highly recommend!
Totally loved the food and atmosphere. It was my cousin and I first time visiting and it was awesome. Our hostess and waitress was were both welcoming and attentive.
Love Red Board with Chef Chris! "OMG, Chef Chris is KILLIN' IT! Been here before, but he's taken it to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL! Chicken fried steak = 😋 and French onion soup = MIND BLOWN! Bar Manager Kelsey is THE BEST, takes care of us like family! 👍"
Restoration of this historic building was well done. Very clean and well appointed. Robert greeted us when we arrived and seated us. Ruthie was our server. She is a gem. Knows the menu, works efficiently and is personable and welcoming and helpful. She even offered to get decaf coffee for us although they do not serve it. She is resourceful and brought a sampling of their coffee, Italian I recall her saying, for one of our guests who absolutely loved it. Authentic home town service and you feel right at home. The bar is well stocked and the video boards have just the right level of interest and advertising of their specials. There is a video of passing trains on the upper wall and a few interesting mechanical wall clocks are installed too. The staff in the kitchen prepared an excellent array of food. The presentation was well done and the flavors were on point. We were a party of 3 for Sunday brunch. Highly recommend a visit here. The prices were reasonable and the food excellent and the service stellar. A brief 20 minute country drive made for an all around lovely time. Thank you to Ruthie for making our experience special!!
We loved our time here!! We loved our waitress Teresa! We are definitely coming back!! 5 stars!!
Had a first date there last night. The atmosphere is great, good Good musician playing. Everything we ate was delicious I had great flavors. Our waitress was very attentive. This is about a 35 minute drive for me and was well worth it. Wine prices are good as well.
This was my first time to Red Board tavern and Table, and it was wonderful. It will not be my last. The atmosphere at lunch is casual and when lunch ends the tables get dressed in white linens and the restaurant transforms into a more polished environment. I had the goat salad and it was wonderful. Full bowl of spinach, delicious additions, and our service was terrific. My glass of water never went dry. Parking in any downtown area can be tricky so keep an eye out for a lot, I parked across the railroad tracks and had no problem. They have three or four outdoor tables for seating. Red Board Tavern and Table was a delightful find and I will be back.
If you’re looking for one of the best places to dine in Navasota, Red Board Tavern & Table absolutely deserves a spot at the top of your list. This charming restaurant blends a gourmet casual vibe with warm, attentive service and creative flavors that keep me coming back. The menu has something for everyone but let me tell you, the chicken Alfredo is delicious. The pasta is rich and creamy, perfectly balanced, and easily one of the standout items I’ve had here. And if you’re a fan of cocktails, you’re in for a treat: the spicy margaritas are amazing, with just the right kick, and the espresso martinis are smooth, bold, and the perfect finish to a meal or a great drink for happy hour.
My mother in law and I enjoy Sunday brunch at the Red Board Tavern downtown Navasota, and it is consistently outstanding. Today I noticed that they had pulled together tables for a group of 12, so that's a wonderful option for large parties. If you like a perfectly runny Eggs Benedict, light Michael Buble/Frank Sinatra music, a Mimosa flight, and the sports TV discreetly available behind the bar for the fans in your group, it's perfect. They also have Friday and Saturday night live piano. If your server is Candy, then you are extra-lucky!
Wow we have been here before , the food has always been seasoned to perfection but the extra tonight was our waitress Lauren . She greeted us with a smile at the reception desk and was also our waitress. I had the Blackened catfish and my husband had the steak medallion with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Both were very filling!
Super nice restaurant area. Love the decorations and the over all set up. Food was great and our waitress was very attentive. Highly recommend
We took a day trip to Navasota and found an unexpected gem — Red Board Tavern & Table. The setting is super charming, especially with the train passing right in front of the restaurant (seriously cool touch). I had the Texas Reuben — absolutely incredible — and Jen tried it and instantly wished she had ordered one too. She had the Petite & Eggs and couldn’t get enough of the gravy. Huge shoutout to our waitress, Jordan, who was incredibly kind and helped Jen pick the perfect mocktail. After lunch, we checked out the historic hotel and the Classic Rock Coffee shop across the street. 100% worth the drive. We’ll definitely be back.
10/10 MUST try! Everything from start to finish was perfect. We came at 11:40am, no wait time and had the lunch. We started with the Fried Gouda for our appetizer and the FLAVORS were amazing with the two dipping sauces. We followed with chicken fried steak with ranch tots and the BBQ pulled pork grilled cheese. We kept the sauces from the appetizer and it was perfect. EVERYTHING has such a good flavor down to the rosemary on the fries. We finished with peach cobbler (they were out of blackberry). For the experience, price was VERY reasonable! The menus change depending on the time so we WILL be returning to try the dinner and breakfast as well. I took pictures of those menus as well. Regardless of who was wearing what the service was AMAZING from the hostess to the waitress. The music was perfect and relaxing and they do have live music depending on the time. Breakfast 7-10am Lunch 10-5pm, 10-4pm Sunday’s (we saw both casual and Sunday dresses customers) Dinner 5-10pm, 4-8 Sundays (more of a fancy attire or more dressy not very casual, slightly higher prices)

Great food and friendly service. Everything we ordered was delicious. The drinks are amazing too. We will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend this place.
My wife and I came to Red Board Tavern and Table for the first time and had such a great experience! Teresa took amazing care of us from start to finish. She was welcoming, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect throughout our meal. The food was absolutely amazing — fresh, flavorful, and came out quickly. Teresa’s service really made our first visit special, and we’ll definitely be coming back because of her. Highly recommend asking for Teresa if you stop by!
Red Board Tavern has been our Sunday afternoon go to since we discovered it a couple of years ago… the food is spectacular, the wait staff is white kid glove in every aspect, and the atmosphere is calm, peaceful, and vintage… definitely worth the drive from Waller! Thank you for serving up quality in every imaginable way! 😻
If you’re looking for a standout dining experience in Navasota, Red Board Tavern & Table is an absolute must-visit! From the moment you walk in, you’ll notice the warm, inviting atmosphere. The menu is creative and my meal was superb! The service is friendly and attentive. Portions are generous, and the quality of food is top-notch — worthy of coming back again and again! Bravo!
We had such a great experience at Red Board Tavern thanks to Teresa! She was absolutely amazing — friendly, attentive, and on top of everything even when it got busy. She made sure our drinks were perfect, checked in on us often, and kept such a positive, welcoming vibe the whole time. You can tell she genuinely cares about her customers and takes pride in what she does. If you go to Red Board Tavern, definitely ask for Teresa — she’ll take great care of you!
We had my husbands company Christmas party in the private room upstairs. Everything was perfect. Luz was easy to work with getting everything lined up. Kelsey and Alex did a great job with the service that night. The food was AMAZING!! Everyone that came enjoyed their meal, drinks, and atmosphere. And you have to get the poppers as an appetizer and their Brussels sprouts!!!! The best!!!
Never disappoints! Always a great atmosphere and service! New menu with something for everyone. I had the red snapper with mango salsa and it was delicious! Seasoned and cooked perfectly! A must try! Our server, Brandy, was attentive and friendly! Will be back soon!

Stopped in for the very first time to check out this really cool Historic restaurant. The ambience was amazing and the service was very good. So many great items on the menu to choose from everything we tried was executed beautifully. Even Chef Chris came to our table to check on us and tell us a little bit about the history of the restaurant. All in all such an amazing experience can’t wait to come back and bring more friends.

Live music with someone playing piano at the front, full bar with great drinks, staffed appropriately, great food! There were a few minor things that won't stop us from going again including my partner's steak being slightly over cooked, the server forgetting to check on us, taking silverware when dirty but then forgetting to bring new silverware, spilling water on the floor while pouring and then not cleaning it up, and when we ordered food, there were items on the menu they said they couldn't make due to supply shortages including most of the dessert menu. Since most of the issues were related to the server and supply chain, we will still go back because the atmosphere is great and the food is delicious. We are guessing the server was just having an off night and we read in the news after leaving that many area restaurants were having supply issues. After we go back again I will update this review. There are so very few nice restaurants in Washington County or surrounding counties and this one was worth the drive to Navasota.
Savannah was our server and she was absolutely phenomenal. The ambiance had a very classy look with a very comfortable vibe. The decor was extremely tastefully done. I came in with a group of coworkers for a work lunch, we are not typically in this area, we were in the field and decided to stop in and give this place a try. The ambiance and service were absolutely 5 stars, the food, though while well presented was more of a 3.5 star, it was good but not fantastic. I got the sloppy Joe and found a small bone in mine which I did point out to Savannah. She came back saying I could get a free dessert and I let her know that while I appreciate the gesture, I decline, I don't want anything free-just wanted it known about the bone and for the kitchen to try to be more careful in the future when grinding up the meat. The bar looked so cute and if I am ever back in this area I wouldn't mind trying this place again.
Passing through Navasota and saw that they had a restaurant here that looked like you could actually get some healthy options on the road. I had the mixed baby feel greens and whole grain bowl with a side of fruit and berries and their blackberry cobbler. They were out of ice cream for the cobbler and that's okay because I'm not a fan of ice cream anyway, but I was kind of surprised the price wasn't discounted from the normal $7 for the desert since half of it wasn't there. The salad and the fruit were fresh and delicious and the cobbler with some of the best I've ever had overall the food was well worth the $29 price for myself for lunch, however like at least one of the person has written the service was atrocious! There were only two tables with customers when I went in yeah I had to wait forever for every little thing and everything was done by different people instead of the same person the whole time I was there which is probably some of the confusion that another poster mentioned about the service. I would come back here if I was in the area again because the food is excellent, but like the other fellow said I wouldn't expect anything for service because it's pretty much non-existent I waited forever for a refill on a glass of water. Kudos to the chef. When I arrived I was startled to see at this time of day and in such a small town a hooker standing on the corner. Very odd
Had the blackened catfish. Spicey but not too spicey. Broccolini was delicious. Server was attentive. Had a brownie with ice cream for dessert. Nice way to end the meal!
All in all, this was an enjoyable lunch. Overall, I gave it four stars because the food was excellent, but the service was severely lacking. I don't know if the dinner service is better, but during lunch, it was hit and miss to be nice. The wait staff was very friendly, but very inattentive. We actually had three different people try to come and take our order because it seemed like no one was after about a fifteen minute wait. I would go back for the food, but I'm going to lower my expectations for the wait staff.
Great options on the menu and everything tasted great. Training new staff but he was awkward bringing the food out but he was polite and trying really hard to do a good job. Overall it was a good experience and will definitely return. Had fun watching the train go by.

Relative nice surprise as this is part of the PA Smith Hotel. Food was ok, little bit overpriced for the amount and quality. Place was a little soulless despite the heavy energy of the attached hotel. I may be back some day…
Atmosphere was nice. Food was hit or miss for our group. Some things were fantastic (warmed brie appetizer, brussel sprouts side), others just Ok (Caesar salad, ribeye steak), and one was horrible (French onion soup). For $52, I expect my steak to be amazing and this one looked like it was cooked on a griddle, not tender. Service was mediocre. They took our order and delivered the food but never checked to see if we needed anything else. We wandered the restaurant looking for a salt shaker ourselves. If I was looking for a nice meal again in Navasota, I'd probably give it another try, but not order the high end steak again.

I ordered eggs sunny side up, they were up but were well done and hard, the hash browns was actually diced fried potatoes instead, and the sausage had no flavor. The toast was good but with no butter or jelly offered. I will stick to the dinner items, which are delicious, but sometimes are served cold, especially the soups. I ordered a bloody mary and the glass came half full, yet it was full of ice. And it took so long to get it, i had figured they had forgotten me, although they did come by two times and said we will get that bloody mary for you right away, then the glass wasn't even full.
First of all we were a top of 13 with a reservation made day before. So they knew we were coming. Our server did her best. The lack of runners and other kitchen issues are a problem. The food we were served was not on par with the prices you want to charge. Food came out cold, pasta lukewarm warm, Caesar salad came with ice berg lettuce and not much to it. Chicken for the salads and pasta was over cooked and dry. Steak ordered medium rare came out medium pretty expensive mistake for paying $45 for a steak. Baked potato had a small dollop of butter no topping for a loaded baked potato you charge $10 for. You bait with a menu online and we sit to a different one. Food runners need to be better trained and support your main servers. Three of us had our food over 20 minutes and almost finished eating before kitchen could push out more food. Just will not ever be back too much money spent for such a poor outcome.

we placed an order on uber eats and were charged 60$ the restaurant cancelled our order after they started making it. Uber stated they could not refund us because the restaurant said we cancelled our order which was a lie, so we could not get our food or a refund. We called the restaurant and the bar manager first told us oh we ran out of all the items you ordered, then put us on hold and stated we don’t do uber eats, then changed it again and said we never got anything to call uber. We then contacted uber who said they definitely use uber or it wouldn’t be on their app or site, then uber told us the restaurant stated we cancelled the order after they started making it and would not be refunded which again is a lie. So the manager proceeds to tell us well i really don’t know. So we are out 60$ and the restaurant had already started making our ordered cancelled it themselves and kept our money. The bar manager then said we could text her photos of our receipt and when the owner returns from maternity leave she will let her know. Very unprofessional and will not use this restaurant again. Very disappointed in the honesty of this place after someone spends that amount of money and is left waiting with multiple changes in stories. The last thing the bar manager said to us was i think uber scammed you
We came for breakfast and out waitress was very friendly and it's very clean. Ordered hashbrowns which they changed to roasted potatoes. Ok. Husband ordered something with chorizo and they were out so we just paid for drinks and left. This is where My 1 star comes in....we paid 20 for a $12 bill and she kept $8. She didn't ask if we wanted change or anything. I was going to tip her the $8 but that's besides the point. The bloody mary was legit good. Edit*** texas skillet definitely says it has chorizo fyi
Love the food. Always get the deviled eggs and brussels, always. The servers are always great and it’s fun inside or out (as long as it’s not 104). Best whiskey sour ever. Edit 2/1/26 Service is terrible. Waited over 10 minutes at the bar and finally asked if we were going to be served. A couple sat down after us, they were greeted, got menus, waters, drink orders, and ordered their food, all before we were even acknowledged. This has happened a few times before, so we stopped coming. We decided to try it again, only after we found out Rail and Rye was closed on Sundays….next time we will find some place else. Food is just ok. The potatoes are torn up French fries and I don’t know how you mess up a Caesar salad. Dressing tastes like mayo, croutons were burnt, and the lettuce was soggy. It’s sad, we used to really love this place.
I hate to say this, the first time I went in late 2022/early 2023 it was super good! However the second time going I made a reservation for 6 people and while they had many tables empty I believe they had a huge party upstairs that wasnt properly planned for in kitchen staff even thought they pushed advertising going there for graduation lunch/dinner thr day before and all of the lower seats suffered due to the kitchen not being able to keep up and what they did turn out after 1 hour plus of waiting was poor quality food with missing ingredients sadly. It got so bad our poor server started avoiding his tables. The fix the restaurant decided on was 2 sets of dessert specifically 8 cookies and 2 glasses of milk without considering dietary restrictions of tables. I will say the cookies were the saving grace and reminded me of how their food used to taste when I had been there before. I appreciate them offering something in apology but after a lot of thinking on the matter I still decided to write this as I am very sad that a restaurant I raved about chose to overwhelm themselves to as bad of a degree they did and let their brand of quality food stoop to such a low level. I don't honestly know what all went on but I wish they had just told us in the beginning or kept up eith communicating and we would have found another place to eat or known that is what we were to expect. On a side note, I had bartenders with me and they were badly shocked at the state of the alcoholic drinks served, I have no clue for what happened there.
Great atmosphere and service!! The pimento deviled eggs $12 were delicious! My chicken fried steak $25 with jalapeño cream corn and mashed potatoes. Steak was thin and over cooked so I’ll be smothering it with the gravy and corn later. Looked like frozen dinner steak. Mom had the Outlaw ribeye $56 with the jalapeño cream corn and steak fries. Steak was extremely thin for its price. The fries were soggy, dark and also over cooked. Chef may need to followup with who is using the fryer. It may also be time to change out oil. Note to self prices are more expensive than Saltgrass without the quality. Rather drive the 17 miles for price and quality angus beef.
Entering into the restraunt is amazing. Looks clean, put together and Upscale. Service was good. We were seated immediately and the waitresses quickly took our drink order. Family of four we were impressed with everything until the food came out. The Sweet tea was not drinkable. The pre-made burger patty was unflavored, but it was edible. The pulled pork was edible, but the coleslaw was horrible. The Devil made the Drums. They were so hard, the crust was charred and hard. The manager came over and tried to make it right TY BTW, but Never Again.

There is a “toxic” feel when you walk in. The food is mediocre. The menu changes every month it seems. The “Chef” can’t make up his mind I’m assuming. I’ve overheard how management speak to staff. It’s appalling. I’ve had amazing service with one server but was informed she was leaving. Had a blessing. But why do the good ones keep leaving? My favorite bartenders are both gone. Kelsey and Amanda were so fun and full of life. I never see anyone supporting the staff. I can’t blame them for the RBF when they obviously have zero support. This place was so lively and it’s gone down hill. It’s sad. I watched customers berate a server and nothing was done. If that were my daughter, we would have never gone back and filed a major complaint and law enforcement would have been called. The major sellers for food keep being changed. There is no consistency. Prayers they figure it out. Again, could have been a great place but everything changes.
