Very pleasant dining experience. Tasty food options, I had the homemade Pastrami sandwich. My guest had the fish and chips both were very good. Our servers were very attentive and efficient. Our beers were refreshing and martinis were great. Trump is a good time for a good meal. We were downstairs in the pub. There is fine dining upstairs which we will try next time.
I’ve been here now at least 4xs in the last couple of months since Triumph Brewing Company relocated to a different area. It is now where the old post office used to be. What makes this place interesting and new from the old Triumph Brewing Company is one the location, and two you have a choice of going down to the lower level at their Der Keller where it’s more casual, and there is a bar some tables and a few high hats, or upstairs where it is more business like and upscale. They have a lovely bar upstairs with table seating and Jazz musicians playing from 6-9 pm.( check their schedule for who is playing.) The menu has completely changed from the old Triumph Brewing Company. They have a new chef and he’s wonderful. I chose to eat downstairs in the Der Keller pub. They have an elevator so if you’re handicapped, you can go up or down with no problems. I prefer to sit at the bar downstairs in the Der Keller. It’s not a big place so it’s first come first served but it was perfect for us. The first time I came here, the bar was completely full so we decided to go upstairs and check it out. Within 2 minutes The manager Anthony saw that we went upstairs and he was so kind because two seats opened up at the bar downstairs and he had the bartender. Ryan saved them for us. Anthony came upstairs and offered us those two seats. I was so impressed that he took the time to do this. You can make a reservation for “upstairs only” in their dining room. The menu is different from the original Princeton Triumph Brewing Company. They make in-house homemade brisket and homemade pastrami. Both are so delicious. I have to tell you I’ve been back multiple times just to have their House-Made Pastrami with sauerkraut, beer mustard, gruyere, on artisan rye, along with their house chips. The chips are addictive. This sandwich is wonderful. ( I’ve been back 3 XS just to have it.) The pastrami is lean and juicy and that sauerkraut with beer mustard adds so much depth of flavor. I paired it with one of their 30th Anniversary Imperial Amber Beer which complimented my sandwich so well. I’ve also tried their House Pretzels with cheddar Sauce, Braised Brisket Sandwich with gruyere, caramelized onion, roasted jalapeno, natural sauce, on ciabatta bread. It was very good and also juicy. My daughter had their Monte Cristo Sandwich with smoked ham, roasted turkey breast, brie, smoked maple syrup, on brioche french toast, with house pickles. She enjoyed her sandwich. The Craft Beers are made on the premises. They are always changing. If you’re not into sandwiches, no problem they have a full menu of burgers including black bean burger, salads, chicken, steak, roast duck, saffron braised rabbit, grilled venison chop, braised short ribs, homemade pasta, cod oreganata , and desserts. They do have a children’s menu 12 and under. Happy hour at the Princeton Triumph Brewing Company is daily from 4 PM to 6 PM at the bar. The happy hour menu includes specials on items like House-Made Pretzels with ale cheddar cheese, Bulgogi Beef Sliders, Mojo Smoked Pork Empanadas, and Seared Halloumi Cheese. They also offer discounts on select beer and wine during this time. My bartenders were Ryan and Ken. They were both extremely friendly and personable.Ryan made good recommendations and drinks. Serena and Estela were my hostesses. They have house merch for sale. The menu is always changing except for a few dishes. When in Princeton, I will continue to come back here because the service is good. The food is delicious and we always have a fun time.
Nice selection of homemade beers. The bar has a view of the brewery. The pretzel appt goes well with a beer. Great sandwiches.
FIVE STARS: on Valentine’s Day, my honey and I shared and savored two dozen fat, succulent mussels in a green broth. Ask for no butter if you’re dairy intolerant. Quaff with a glass of Sparkling Cava Brut. I enjoyed a Valentine’s Day cocktail of Aperol, strawberry puree, Rose frizzante, lemon juice. He ate grilled salmon: succulent, 3/4” thick, with crispy skin and buttery deliciousness encircled with flavorful Forbidden Black Rice, rich and complex; all washed down with a glass of white wine, an Alvarinho from Portugal. I ate grilled black bass: tender, moist, juicy white fish fillet, 1” thick, grilled in EVO (instead of butter), garnished with multi-colored cherry tomatoes, green herbs and flower petals. The fillet sat on top of piped mashed turnip, with a tasty puddle of smoked sun dried tomato sauce drizzled on the plate. After dinner, we enjoyed live jazz and tasty coffee in the Lounge from a mini French Press brought to the table. Excellent wait staff and ambiance in a 1939 original restored US Post Office, all wood and original chandeliers, painting, vaulted ceiling, white tablecloths.
Triumph is next level gastronomy. It was my first of what will be a lifetime of visits. What initially struck me was how endearing each member of the team was. I felt like a long lost family member from the moment I entered. The vibe is electric. The food is lovely prepared, using the finest and freshest ingredients. The libations are expertly crafted. I guarantee multiple taste bud orgasms here. Treat yourself to a wonderful experience and “Triumph” today. God Bless Blue & Gold! God Bless America! Remember Everyone Deployed Everyday!
The long-awaited opening of Triumph was well worth the wait! I had an excellent time at this new establishment and was impressed by the efficient and well-coordinated team. The service was quick, and everyone was alert, with managers being exceptionally hands-on. The menu is diverse, capturing elements of various cuisines. I particularly enjoyed the cheese platter, which made me feel like Remy from "Ratatouille," pairing cheese and fruit. The braised lamb was excellent, and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. The desserts are a product of pure genius; the pineapple rum cake and warm rice pudding with espresso whisky ice cream both had remarkable depth of flavor. The desserts are a must-try! Triumph is centered around beer, which I usually dislike, but the Gose was amazing—slightly salty, extremely refreshing, with little to no bitterness. My partner enjoyed the Hazy IPA and the Bengal Gold, and we also tried the strawberry rhubarb Aperol spritz and the espresso martini, which were both delicious. It was a wonderful experience, and I will definitely be returning for more of their desserts.
Everything here was delicious! This place is definitely great for a date night because of its nice ambiance. Their servers were very keen to our large party and helpful in terms of recommendations. I loved their filet which was very tender and juicy, and their shrimp appetizers were also excellent. Would definitely come back to try more.
Came for a quick drink and bite while catching up with a friend. Ordered the beer mussels and half dozen east coast oysters. Oysters came with a simple mignonette sauce and lemons - good! Beer mussels were good, not overcooked, though could’ve been a bit more flavorful. New location is massive and the 2 levels have very different vibes. Will return.
Went to Triumph New hope and did not like at all so was not sure about this new location but thought to give it a try and got surprised. Nice ambience of a post office, amazing service with server giving good recommendations and having warm chat, ordered mushroom dish in appetizer and two desserts. Each one of them were so yummy that left me for wanting more. Tried their Negroni made from bourbon specifically crafted for them and tasted flavorful. Looking forward to go there again soon
My wife and son and I celebrated a birthday at Triumph tonight. Given that they are only recently reopened in the new location, we had moderated expectations for our visit. I am pleased to say that they exceeded our expectations in all dimensions. The restaurant is beautiful. They have kept the beautiful wood paneled former post office lobby for the main seating in the dining room. Familiar, but new. The service was professional, attentive and helpful without being intrusive. We all enjoyed our appetizers and well presented entrees. The atmosphere in the main dining room was elegant but not stuffy. There is a less formal brew-pub dining space in the lower level, but we have not tried that out yet. I recommend Triumph without reservation.
Best eating experience in town! Triumph Brewery in Princeton is an absolute gem! I had dinner here with my daughter, and everything was perfect. The food was outstanding, and the service was impeccable from start to finish. A special thank you to the General Manager, Ray Villano, whose professionalism and attention to detail truly elevated our experience. His warm and thoughtful approach made our evening together so memorable and unique. We’re so grateful for such a wonderful time and can’t wait to return. Highly recommend!
Hadn't been to the new location in Palmer Square before (didn't even know they had a new location) which has apparently been in the works for about 8 years. Anyway, the upstairs has a nice loungey vibe but is more fancy... sorry, no baseball caps allowed (yes...really) but the downstairs is more casual and allows any kind of hat you wish to wear. Staff was super nice and very knowledgeable. Been coming to Triumph for close to 30 years, and by far...their beers have never been better. Definitely check them out when you're in town.
Cool microbrewery housed in a old post office in a great walking area (Princeton). A+ food, service (Ryan) and ambiance.
I dined at the bar twice--once on my first full day in town and again after a botched attempt at dining at an inferior establishment. Both times, the bartenders were quick and attentive, and the food was delicious. I had the fritto mixto, first class burger, and then the fish & chips. The fritto was crisp, tender & flavorful. The burger had a bit too much going on, but it was still good. And the fish & chips were crisp and flaky. I will dine here again when I return in a couple months.
Had a great time here! Atmosphere is amazing, food is even better! Our server/bartender Ryan was awesome. Service was great and staff is very friendly! We will definitely be coming back.
This is an outstanding restaurant and bar located in the center of Princeton, NJ. Great environment located inside the former Princeton Post Office - elegant upstairs dining areas and lounge; casual downstairs bar with a view into the brewery house - you are certain to enjoy yourselves at this new, but long established dining and drinking destination location. Located on the Green in Palmer Square, enter on Palmer Square East.
ASK for JOE — You will thank me later for having him as your waiter. My wife and I travel across the country full time together and have visited nearly 500 breweries. We stopped in after a long day of traveling. Our waiter Joe immediately made us feel welcome (even though we were underdressed). Triumph Brewery is definitely not your normal brewery. Little fancier than your average brewery but also casual at the same time. The drinks and food (highly recommended the mussels in the curry). I am not a big fan of curry, but this was something I will crave again. Joe made the entire experience even better! Out of nearly 500 breweries, we WILL be back to this one. 🩵
Very surprised at low review score, we had an amazing experience! Went on a Friday night and was able to get seated right away. Atmosphere was great, fast and friendly service, drinks were great. Calamari appetizer was delicious, got a burger and fries that were also 10/10. A little pricy especially if you’re getting drinks but it’s also Princeton. Definitely will be back and highly suggest others give this place a try
The drinks were amazing.Presentation of food was immaculate. The service was great. We had the potato crusted shrimp and octopus which was very tasty. Highly recommend. We also had venison chops and i substituted salad for whipped potatoes which was amazing. My wife had the short rib which was delicious as well. I highly recommend this restaurant and would love to see the venison in a wine sauce also but whatever the chef makes i would eat. Hats off to chef. Thank you for the experience.
We had an amazing time here for dinner. Our waiter Vlad was outstanding. He was courteous, attentive and took great care of us overall. Food here is great as well. But the service is spectacular.
We were visiting Princeton with a group of 8 and were easily seated in the downstairs/bar area at Triumph on a Saturday evening — no reservations. Not sure if this availability at Triumph is common or if we just lucked-out, but we had a great meal and a really fun time. Our server was very attentive/nice and the food was better than we expected (which, we really didn't know what to expect, save reading a few reviews like this!) I would happily go back to Triumph next time I'm in Princeton. Highly recommend.
We were in the mood to sit at the bar to have a few drinks and some food. Justice was our bartender and server. He was very friendly and when asked question in regards to food he was very knowledgeable. I have celiac disease so I had lots of questions. Justice was patient and double checked with the kitchen to be sure my meal was safe for me to eat. I had the steak fritas, it was delicious. The specialty drinks were made perfectly. Fun night.
Great place for drinks and quick bite. I thought the appetizers were delicious and a great bite. I’ve had better oysters considering the price point.
Best burger I think I've ever had. Best duck our table ever tried. Great beers, and complementing food. The basement bar vibe is pretty cool, but a little too dark On the pricey side, but hey it's Princeton... I'll be back
First time at the new location. Entrance is on the street and not in the little park. You can go upstairs to the restaurant side or downstairs to the basement bar with an overlook of the beer making area. Still a pretty busy bar but managed to sit right away at the bar. The lounge is another area but is mostly for just drinks. The restaurant bar is for the more expensive food/dinner entrees, the basement bar is for the burgers and cheaper food. Kind of annoying that you can't get all the food upstairs. Service was very good! I was impressed with the speed of the bar tenders considering how busy it was. Very friendly! FOOD: I started with the shrimp bisque. It looked great and was a great portion size but it lacked flavor. The cream completely drowned out the flavor and the chili oil vanished. I would recommend something crusty on top and maybe add a flavored chili oil. Maybe add some more shrimp pieces. I was hoping for more. Also got the special, Venison with grits and mashed plantains. Excellent dish! Cooked perfectly! Would have liked a bigger portion of the sides, but overall very happy with that. I also got the banana bread pudding dessert. That thing is next level good! If you have a nut allergy, make sure you mention it. I did and had it without the almond slivers on top. No nuts in the bread itself. We also had the duck entree with rice. Duck was excellent again, but the rice was flavorless. Had the cinnamon roll dessert which was not as decadent as the banana bread pudding but still amazing! I had the hazy IPA and it was really good. Reminded me a bit of something from Icarus Brewery, which is a great business. Balanced and drinkable! Had live jazz tonight and they were excellent! Will definitely return!
This super attractive grand reopening of Triumph in Palmer Square did not disappoint. It is an upscale basement brew pub for now. The menu is unique, prices a little high as you’d expect for the area. The seafood grits special was visually stunning. Fancy hamburger was delicious. Everything except the frito mixto seemed to lack salt, but speaking of - don’t skip the fried mixed seafood dish. It was fantastic. Beer was awesome. Vibe was great. I’ll be back for the fine dining restaurant when it opens upstairs.
To clear this up for some folks, this triumph is basically two restaurants in one. There is the upstairs that is way fancy. Then there is the downstairs, which is more of the brewery atmosphere and more closely resembles the new hope location in terms of atmosphere. We chose to eat upstairs. The food was mixed. We had the octopus which was fantastic the beer muscles that were ok and then entrees. The pink peppercorn fettuccine pasta dish was not edible. The Duck and rabbit cassoulet was not bad but wouldn't order again. It appears there is a different menu for the downstairs bar. The drinks were fantastic. Had both mixed cocktails and beer. Spot on. Service was fantastic. We will come back again and try out the downstairs. We will also try upstairs again in a few months.
Food was pretty good, service was friendly though I will say our server didn't check in on us as much as I've experienced at other places.
Filet Mignon was of course great, Rabbit was very tender and delicious but comes with basically just a big bowl of Farro and that’s it. Duck has improved from the old version, but I would only recommend this dish if you really like kimchi because it is paired with that strong flavor. Octopus starter fabulous (not pictured)
We were impressed by the Modern vibe, not your normal brew pub. The bar area was jammed and we were lucky to get a table to dine. Food was interesting and excellent. Special appetizer was crudo hamachi over watermelon, very fresh and delicious. Fish special was a hit. I had the steak frites. I can compare this dish to the same served at a few other places in town and think triumph may be the best. Overall, a city-feel eatery and bar with excellent food.
Brand new with good food and a good selection of brews. Only the cellar is open at the time of this posting. Prices are a little high but commensurate with the quality.. Staff is attentive without being intrusive. A promising endeavor.
Very good food and great options overall, including vegetarian. Service was slightly overbearing, not too bad but noticeable. Music was a bit loud too, but relatively minor points in the grand scheme of things.
Went here for a work event food was pretty good as we indulged in the appetizers. The drinks were the star of the show as i had one glass of pinot noir and the sour pomegranate and i felt great for the night. Ibwould reccomend if you like a laid back loungeesque vibe as we stayed in the downstrairs portion.
Chose to eat downstairs after visiting the just reopened Princeton University art museum. Love the atmosphere and ordered my favorite Brewers sandwich. My husband ordered a burger, which he said was good but fell apart. Our waitress was nice but never followed up after our food arrived. We looked but saw every server but her. Finally I flagged down who I believe is a manager who was standing with the hostess, and he brought water. My question is if you see that one of your servers are struggling and can help out then why not step up? You're all a team correct? Thank you and we'll definitely return with the hopes of better service.
I got fish and chips here while meeting with an alumni. The fish has a lot of batter. Otherwise, it was pretty good. The fries were very good. The other people I was eating with got burgers, which they didn’t say anything bad about. The food is on the expensive side, which I think is a little high for the value of food you get. If I was going to a higher end restaurant I think there are places with more flavorful and wider options in the area.
Great drinks , great place The mushrooms baklava was the stand out with Pesto and blue cheese. I had the chicken. It was nice to see a French breast. My wife had the Cod still trying to figure out why it was swimming in a Canelli bean soup.? The poach pear salad with the arugula and the goat cheese. The goat cheese was the size of gold nuggets. I love that. I’ll be back next time. I’ll try dessert.
Dinner here is overpriced. Not a question. If you're looking for drinks it's solid however if you want food Ask your server if the item is actually a meal or a fancy plated snack. I chose the Monte Cristo. Which was sizable for 19. However every dessert is 14 and the banana bread option tastes like warmed up grocery store banana bread. It's still good but nchose thethe price for one slice. The staff are great however you're paying to be bougie for good food and drinks.
Triumph Restaurant & Brewery – Great Atmosphere, Friendly Staff, but Food Fell Short During our recent visit to Triumph Restaurant & Brewery in Princeton, NJ, we dined upstairs, and while there were some highlights, the food didn’t quite live up to our expectations. The Positives: The location is great, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The staff was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service, which made for an enjoyable dining experience. The Food: Fritto Misto – This was pretty good, crispy, and flavorful. Probably the best of what we ordered. Grilled Octopus – It was good but lacked the char that would have elevated the flavor. Not the best I’ve had. Braised Short Ribs – Just okay. It didn’t have that rich, melt-in-your-mouth experience that I’ve enjoyed at other places. Grilled New York Strip – I prefer a traditional steak without sauce, but the sauce on this one took away the char and grilled texture that I love. Final Thoughts: Maybe it was just our particular order, but overall, I wasn’t too impressed with the food. That said, given the great atmosphere and excellent service, we might give it another try and order something different next time.
I had originally posted a five star review, when the Princeton Triumph reopened in their new Palmer Square location. My initial two visits were quite exceptional and though expensive, I was well pleased with the quality of the food, drinks and service. My third visit, I was served lamb that was full of fat and gristle, to the point that I had to spit it out. The final straw was this past Friday, when I dared to show up without a reservation. I'm assuming it was the manager hovering at the upstairs podium, as he was dressed rather more smartly and seemed more imposing than the other staff. His first reaction appeared to be one of welcome, but once he discovered I had no reservation, I was dismissed to the downstairs as though I suddenly wasn't worth his time. Downstairs, I was told that the wait would be about 30 minutes, which is fair considering how busy they clearly were. I chose to leave instead and honestly, I won't be coming back again.
Great food and ambience, but weirdly obsessed with rules. They have four distinct menus: one for downstairs, one for the upstairs restaurant, one for the bar, and one for the lounge. The lounge is RIGHT next to the bar, it's all part of the same room, but for some reason they have DIFFERENT food and drink on the lounge menu than on the bar menu. And yes, they will gladly refuse any attempt to order something from the bar menu when you are sitting five feet away. Non-alcoholic drinks, for example, are only served at the bar for some reason. They serve some amazing fish and chips downstairs, but if you try ordering this upstairs, you will be refused. Even though everything shares the same kitchen. The staff are generally great, so it's a shame that management insists on this weird subdivision of their restaurant.
I have been going to Triumph for years and years. I've been to the original Nassau St location, as well as the one in New Hope... Probably dozens of times. I feel like the ambiance of the new Princeton place is quite lovely, although not quite in line with the brewery expectation. I was very excited to try the food, to see if it lived up to the fancier ambiance. I got the black bean burger and it was not at all notable. Under-seasoned, rather bulky and without enough sauce to balance out the bread and heft of the burger... I was unimpressed. The fries were good. But overall, a very "mid" meal for such a fancy looking place. The Hazy IPA was nice, but also nothing notable. I've had much better food and places where I would have expected a lot less. Overall, I left disappointed, having expected more from the new location.
Had a nice meal of steak frites and the roasted duck with a to go order of the autumn squash agnolotti. When I got home I realized how light the to go bag was and opened to a surprise of a small portion size. I included a penny for size comparison of this dish. It has 5 agnolotti total for $33. I called the restaurant because I thought they had mistaken the entree for a side order but they assured me that 5 agnolotti was correct for the entree portion. When the steak frites was $39 and the roasted duck was $38 it is hard to imagine this small portion size of a vegetarian dish warrants $33. The taste was okay, but nothing special.
As someone who loved going to Triumph before they closed down their previous Princeton location, you can imagine my surprise and delight to hear that they were open again. This new location looks very posh, and both floors feel very speakeasy-esque. I like the wrap around bar and the dim lighting, the ambiance is top notch. Unfortunately I don't think this is the Triumph I knew. No wings, no iconic burger, no beer flights on the menu combined with dishes that easily go up to the $40+ range. The target clientele has changed and those from before are left out. Additionally, service was quite poor. We came in as a group of three at the bar but had to wait 20 minutes to get our drinks. The bartender didn't seem very interested in their service either. And then another 20 minutes passed before we got any attention, at which point we just decided to leave instead of ordering an app. While I relished in drinking brews that I had in Triumph prior, I do not feel the same charm and coziness the previous location gave. Additionally, I can't imagine why it took so long, especially when guests who came after us received more urgent service. While new guests might find new Triumph to be a fancy eatery with lovely seating and atmosphere, I believe the fans who've waited will feel somewhat out of place.
The vegetarian selection is very poor at the downstairs brewery restaurant. My wife and I both got the vegetarian burger and one of them was extremely spicy for some reason, which makes me question what goes on in their kitchen. The IPA on tap is decent. But while I expect the tap selection to rotate occasionally, they don’t do that here from what I have been able to tell. The atmosphere was on the loud side when I’ve been there.
If you were a fan of the old Triumph, this is not the place for you. Fancy? Yes. Upscale? Yes. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? No. Took my son out for his birthday. He was looking forward to the signature Triumph chicken wings. No such luck. We ordered what sounded good: mussels, duck, venison. Biggest disappointment was the mussels - 60% of them had sand in them. In short, paid a lot of $$ for mediocre fare. Was not prepared for upscale dining (with OK food) in a brewery.
An absolutely beautiful place --like night and day from the Triumph that was on Nassau Street. They offer fine dining, cool jazz on Fridays and more. However food very fair and the wait staff needs to be trained much better. We had dinner in the bar downstairs and I asked the waitress some questions about the menu and the drinks but she had no idea how to explain it. On the plus side, atmosphere is lovely.
This is the kind of place Princeton needs, a nice casual place to come with friends and fam. The service is miserable though, even by restaurant standards. I don’t have high needs but the staff are very combative and are rude. I hadn’t been here before and from hostess to bar staff they were quite rude throughout. Food and drinks are solid
Ladies be weary— they have a really creepy bar back who will stare at you until you close out your tab after apps. The food is okay…not too sure it’s worth the headache.
I hate writing this. I loved the old T. They really lost what they had. Too dark. Trying too hard. It was a brew pub now it is trying to be to upscale, more for tourists than locals place. Before it was a local place and tourists loved it and so did the locals. Sorry. But won’t go back. And way too expensive. So sorry. The fix. Add light. Chill out the upscale menu focus on the beer. And please focus on what you are showing on TV. One channel had discovery channel animal babies on, and we were asking to watch the NCAA girls softball finals. Is it a sports bar or upscale? Choose sports. You will get more people and make more $$$$. The Inn is 100% better.
Triumph Brewing Company – Princeton, NJ ★☆☆☆☆ We used to be loyal fans of Triumph before they moved. The original location had charm, great beer, and a welcoming vibe that made it a favorite. Sadly, the new location has none of that magic—and a whole lot of attitude. We visited with a bonafide service dog, fully documented and legally protected. The place was EMPTY, yet the hostess came over and chewed us out for having the dog. Not just a polite refusal—an aggressive, rude tirade that left us stunned. It was humiliating and completely uncalled for. Service dogs are not pets. They are essential medical aids, and denying them entry is not only unethical—it’s illegal. The fact that Triumph would treat loyal customers this way is appalling. The new space feels cold, and the staff even colder. Triumph has gone from a beloved taproom to a place we’ll never return to. If you value hospitality, inclusivity, and basic respect, look elsewhere.
