Opinions de Tokyo Sushi Steakhouse New Paltz
Sushi was awesome. Teriyaki chicken was great. Food was really good. Friendly staff.
Really great place to grab a quick meal delicious sushi as well as the chefs being graduates of the cia EXELLENT FISH
This is one of our favorite places to grab a bite to eat after work on Friday. They have a selection of drinks to choose from, both hard and soft. The menu has so much to choose from, and there is nothing we haven't loved so far. My personal recommendation is the kimchi yaki soba
I ordered for 5 people To Go. They got every single order just right. Sushi good, portions generous. Call ahead, your order will be ready !
Stumbled on this place coming back from skiing. We got a sushi platter. It was great and more than we could eat for sure. The service was great too.
My jam. Been a regular for over 10 years. It's that good. Lots of seating and fairly priced so you can go often.
One of the most reasonable and best lunch experiences around. For $10 you get a Bento Box, miso soup, salad. A lot of good and food healthy for the price.
This place has the best sushi I have had on a long time. Way better then to susi spots in Kingston. I am so glad I found this place.
I've been going here since it opened and I've never been disappointed.
The food is fresh. The employees are nice. Easy dinning experience. The prices are affordable.
Great service and wonderfully taste sushi and sashimi! Can't wait to go again.
Good food and music. Staff is very friendly
don't see how I can give less than five stars. got the chicken teriyaki lunch box and it was like a five course meal. everything was tasty! and for just under $10 it's a solid deal too. good service/prices/food... I can't complain!!
Sushi was delicious and well crafted! Soup was the perfect temperature and well flavored. Our waitress was super hard working, and kind. Can’t wait to come back :))
I come here all the time and the staff is so nice and the place is wonderful. The food is AMAZING and comes relatively fast. The menu is also large with lots of things to choose from. Don't forget to get some mochi ice cream too😊.
I go to Tokyo Sushi all the time! The food is great and the wait staff is super friendly. Remy, Sarah, Emily, and Esme always make my experience very enjoyable. So glad I live close!
Excellent! My husband and I had hot BibnBap (it arrived in a steaming hot bowl still cooking). It was so nourishing and comforting. And really tasty. We both want to go again...soon!
Absolutely great for the cost. Not fancy - but you'd be crazy to expect fancy for these rock bottom prices. Very solid predictable American-suburbs-generic sushi with decent fish, good complimentary miso soup and korean style side salad. The Korean food was an unexpected surprise! Happy with the sundubu jigae (spicy tofu seafood soup) on a cold rainy day. Much more "generic" and "white people friendly" version than some sundubus; only has a goguchara, tofu, and a couple of shrimps (some sundubus can have a lot of seafood and be very 'fishy'.) And so cheap! Two entrees and a 375 ml bottle of sake for $40. 10/10 would recommend for those expecting unpretentious and basic americanized asian-fusion without breaking the bank.
Always a good experience. The Hibachi table has always been a good portion of good food for a reasonable price. We are always taking food home and the kids have a great time.
Tokyo Sushi has been a staple of mine since I was a student at SUNY New Paltz. The food is good. There is a wide variety of Japanese food and sushi. There are also bento boxes and a small selection of Korean food. Service is quick. There no longer is Habachi as the restaurant closed half of the store. It has been a quiet place to have a meal. The quality of food is excellent.
Had a delicious meal here. Can't wait to return. The staff here is wonderful ! We were helped by Rafaella , very friendly and efficient ..
If sushi is what you want in New Paltz, this is the place to find it. In addition to other Japanese menu items, there is a selection of traditional Korean dishes which are well prepared and presented. There are several Hibachi tables, where food is prepared and served right at table. We did a family celebration meal that way and it was fun and delicious.
Great food, awesome service, and comfortable atmosphere. They have some delicious dishes for those who don't care for sushi as well.
The sushi was very tasty, and they had a wide selection. The staff are very friendly and service is really fast. I highly recommend everyone go stop at this sushi place if they are in New Paltz
Love this place , prices are very reasonable and the food is always great ! I have gotten take out and also have dined in at least 10 times in 3 months and always very happy with food and service !
I’ve never been here although I have been eating in restaurants in New Paltz for over 20 years. I’m so happy that I stopped in. The portions are huge and the food was very, very good. The Bento box was enough for two people to share. My son’s chicken katsu also could easily feed two people. The service was outstanding. Props to the waitress from Queens, I’m so sorry I forgot your name, but you are pleasant, friendly, and super efficient! We will be back!
This is the only Sushi joint I typically go to. Prices vs food quality vs consistency are the best I've seen reasonable close to where I live. The service is my only issue ever, they can be...... less than spectacular. We typically go there once a month for the last 7+ years. And I'll keep going back!
Tokyo sushi has to be the best sushi spot in New Paltz. We ordered different types of sushi and rolls, the best one among them was the spicy tuna It just hits the right spot. The spider roll was really good too. They have a good menu to choose from. Would love to go back and try different things on the menu. The service is really good and the staff are friendly. The place was clean and they maintained social distancing. Its highly recommended if you visit New Paltz.
Korean dishes are amazing. Bulgogi and Bimbibap are highly recommended. Edit: New visit, August 2020 Bulgogi bento box and Bimbibap again and always 100% delecious. Shrimp tempura sushi roll was one of the best sushis I've ever had. Seriously try it. And the Kimchi was perfect. This place is amazing!
So many places to eat here in New Paltz, it took some time to get here - I had help with a gift certificate given to me as a present, luckily - Tokyo Sushi definitely has it right! I'm a bit disappointed that they're not running the hibachi tables anymore, but I will definitely come back for more of their Korean section on the menu! Had the beef... so good!! Everything was delicious. We'll be back.
great sushi. They used to bring out orange slices with the check but they haven't done it the last few times I went :(
Good food at good value. Servings are appropriate. Service is good. I like the Korean offerings, spice beef very good. Miso soup is good and salad always fresh and crisp.
Very good food. Slow service. Also, mixed up part of order, but comped the extra (incorrect) roll. I'd still go back.
TS has been in New Paltz for years. Must count for something. Service is fast and prices reasonable for portion size.
This is our favorite sushi place in town and we've been to them all. Nice prices and excellent food. Highly recommended!
I go there for the hot pepper roll. Otherwise, it's a solid sushi sashimi spot.
The sushi was excellent, service could have been quicker, but overall a great experience, price wasnt bad either considering how much I ate
Extremely friendly staff. Good sushi. Warning: the spicey tuna rolls are the speciest I have ever had.
Inviting japanise appeal. Friendly servers and the sushi chefs seem to know everyone that walks in. The sushi can range from fantastic to just okay. Some of the best miso soup in the area!!!
The quality seems to have dropped a bit. Some sushi was chewy and the app was not fresh. However its still good for the $$
I have been stopping here for many many years on my way from NYC to Albany ... Wed is "salmon day" great deals, good sushi.
The food was tasty and the service was good. It is best to go in Wednesday and/or Thursday nights when they have specials. Music is a bit much and not always appropriate for dining (more like the club scene ). I would recommend Tokyo Sushi to anyone who wants a quick bite at a decent price.
Super busy. But the food is good, wait was fine, and staff friendly. They have other food besides sushi here, which is nice for the people who don't like sushi.
Very nice ambience. Clean wooden tables and very nice wait staff. I ordered the sushi dinner, with California roll. It came with miso soup and a salad. The salad greens were crispy and the ginger dressing was pretty good. I really enjoyed the miso soup, was really delicious. The California roll was delicious, but I preferred the salmon sushi to most of the other ones, the tuna sushi was a tad chewy. But on the menu they have a salmon sushi dinner so I think next time I'll order that.
The food was delicious as always. The only negative thing I can possibly say is that the water wasn't very cold. Definitely not the worse thing I've come in contact with at a restaurant. All together was still a wonderful time.
Tokyo is pretty good sushi for a affordable lunch. Sometimes their seaweed is too chewy or their rice is chewy but their fish always tastes fresh. Lunch time is the best time to go cause they have affordable deals.
First time visiting. Korean/Japanese restaurants. Lunch specials are available everyday between 11:30 and 3pm, around $10 per dish. 1. Lunch box is good. 2. Udon is normal. 3. Soonduboo (spicy tofu soup) is too sweet for me, below than average. There is a large parking lot at the rear of this building.
A decent place for Japanese and Korean food. Ordered the Bibimbap which was very good. The cast iron bowl came out sizzling hot which made the bottom of the rice crispy. The don bowel was also very good however the beef was overcooked. Also had to poke bowels which were good but it had too much salad in it. Prices were average and service was good.
Came here for a casual dinner with a friend. I believe the place is currently under construction, considering how half the restaurnt was blocked off. The service was good, they forgot a few things here and there but overall they were very nice. I got the soondubu jjigae (soft tofu stew) and the futomaki roll, while my friend got the bibimbap and the spider roll(?). Got a miso soup and a side salad before my food came. The main foods were good. The rolls were good too...but the rolls were a little different from what I usually get at other sushi places..🤷♀️ Overall, it was a good experience 👍
Tokyo is OK if you don’t want to travel to Poughkeepsie. If you do, the best sushi is either Akari or Kobe.
The food was fantastic and the prices were average. However, we felt really rushed and the waitress did not seem that friendly...
Good food, nice value for the lunch special, but very poor service. Always good for a quick bite though!
Expensive, the bahn mi is only half the size of other bahn mi and priced at a full $8+ it wasn't bad by any means, but certainly not worth it for $8
The prices are a bit higher than I liked. I purchase the same thing as usual and paid $4 more than the last time.
Great service, but average food quality and relatively expensive
Service was fair staff was more concerned with their phones. They discontinued the Hibachi tables. The smell of the restaurant at 2 in the afternoon was stuffy and musty.
Shrimp tempura was extremely greasy. Teriyaki chicken was tasty. Service was ok, but not good. Had to ask 2x just for a water refill & water was not provided to the table unless requested.
I ordered Philadelphia roll and handroll with no smoked salmon. And I told them a couple of times that I wanted fresh. Anyways, I walked all the way there for pickup and it comes with smoked salmon. =/ I mean.... really? In this heat I can’t even think of walking back or none of that. And this is not the first time that happens...
So I definitely won't be going back but it wasn't that bad. Although it was really hot inside, and we waited really long to get the wrong order. At the end I wasn't very upset because they corrected their mistakes and didn't charge me for the wrong stuff that we had already eaten.
Dine in or take out the food is good. The rolls I've noticed get smaller and smaller, meaning more filling then fish, I tend to get sashimi due to this but sometimes I just wan lt a nice roll. The chicken teriyaki dinner is very good. Love the shrimp tempura. As for sushi, I have had better and bigger. Side note, I never give 5 stars so 3 is not a bad review. 4 is very good, 5 is out of this world must go.
The food is 4 stars. Not bad but not amazing. We went on a Wednesday night, and service was sporadic and surprisingly slow. I got "understaffed" vibes. -1 star for automatically including a 21.6% gratuity then including a line to leave even more tip. Their prices are very reasonable. I'd rather they increase the price of their food and ask for a tip on top of that, instead of this sneaky double dipping. I almost left an extra tip on top of what they already included. I was left with a bad taste in my mouth. Bad business practice by the owners/management. Charge what you need to charge! Don't trick people.
I've been going here for years and it's pretty consistently okay. It's not incredible, and they often don't have anything special ( they used to have Uni), but overall it's generally pretty good. The sushi deluxe is worth the price. Seaweed salad and miso soup are excellent. There's not many good restaurants in New Paltz anymore, but I can always rely on this place.
This place use to be my favorite place for sushi. Last time I went the crab roll didn't taste fresh. I immediately didn't eat anymore. My husband ordered something totally different and felt ill for 2 days. It's a shame because I never had a bad meal until now
Food wasn't spectacular but it was okay. Some dishes are better than others. Service was great, very attentive but then again the place was empty lol. Atmosphere was kind of dull, nothing special. Would i go again? Probably not.
Food was tasty and decent prices, but our entire family had upset stomachs after eating here.
The miso soup was the best part of the meal, had lots of fresh scallions in it. I ordered one and got two so that was super nice, loved that they came in coffee cups - super easy to drink :) The sushi on the other hand was nothing super special, fish didn’t have much flavor and the ratio of fish to rice was more rice than fish on some of the rolls. For the eel avocado roll I only really tasted avocado and the eel sauce was so bland and watery. The alaska roll was pretty good as well as the yellowtail scallion but again i tasted more scallion then fish.
The food is as expected, but the service is not attentive. We had a teen waiter who seemed not to see us or remember we were there. We had to really think about what an appropriate tip would be...
We arrived at 1:00pm and no one took our order until 1:30 so we got it to go. Staff unattentive and I'm worried about the cleanliness. When waitress cleared off table across from us, she stuck the sauces back and wiped with a well used cloth. No disinfectant or other spray. That was four days ago, and I'm feeling off today (headache, body ache, sneezing.......COVID paranoid?) Food was okay but not worth the wait......or exposure
It was fine. I've had much better sushi elsewhere. Not sure if waiter was new but he couldn't answer any of our questions about the menu. He did not take initiative on his own and had to be asked directly to please go find out for us so we could order. Would not return. Restaurant was clean and comfortable to dine at. Good location. Easy parking.
Sushi and Sashimi great. Ordered a Katsu chicken and a pork rice bowl. The meat was so dry and flavorless. I brought them home and will try to resurrect them… so disappointed.
i have lived in new paltz for 30+ years. eaten just about everywhere. i have eaten here several times. food is good but service is really in need of a major adjustment! every time something is wrong. tonight my meal came 30 minutes before the other person who was eating. the owners son (or so he said) claimed that was a normal thing. i thought not ! beware, good food will only compensate for soooo much insensitive service.
A mediocre approach to the "classics". Everything appears unseasoned and bland. Instead of being delicate with a hint of sweet and heat that you find at establishments that execute it well, the beef dishes taste like tough, shoe leather-like food. Even the teriyaki dishes, come off as quite flavorless (overcooked) (and *no* rice, really?). The sushi is the best option; it is adequate for the Hudson Valley but isn't particularly noteworthy. The rice isn't overly thick (which is excellent) and the rolls are prepared as one should anticipate, but they still seem to lack something that is difficult to describe. Not the worst location by any means, but after trying them three times, I've come to the conclusion that I (and you both) deserve better.
Tonight me, significant other, and our son came in for a lovely dinner. This is the first time we've been to Tokyo Sushi and although the miso soup and edamame were fantastic the sushi and service were sub par. Our server didn't seem like she even wanted to serve us and being a server myself I picked up on it immediately. All the food we ordered came all at once even though we ordered appetizers and sushi. The sushi tasted fine but was room temperature unfortunately. We tipped over 20% on a $60+ bill. Maybe it was because we're young or a mixed couple but it definitely wasn't what I'm use to in New Paltz. I hope our server has a better day tomorrow.
Place is not the same. Horrible service, no smile no personality no nothing, On top of that the last time I went in she got nothing on my order correct. What a joke. the place has gone down hill, even the two sushi male cheifs are RUDE!!!
Sushi is horrible. I ordered two special rolls. Couldn’t eat one at all, the other was bad.
Stopped here while on vacation, choose this place after viewing website and posted menu. Arrived and was seated expecting a hibachi style food and steak. (Sign outside says steak house) no such items found inside. When asked, waitress laughed and said the online menu is 3 years old. We promptly left as options advertised were not available for our large group and including kids.
The salmon teriyaki was dry, over cooked and tasteless. The server told me it would be served with broccoli there were literally three microscopic pieces of broccoli on tons and sautéed onions if you enjoy onions for dinner then I recommend this place. The brown rice was like mush. The server had some type of an attitude and I do not recommend this restaurant for any reason ....go elsewhere it’s not fresh food!
Picked up an order, and unfortunately they forgot 2 special rolls. I realized this when I got home. Called them immediately and 3 times afterwards to rectify this to get a refund on what they charged but they haven’t made it right. Aside from mediocre sushi, they shouldn’t hustle customers like this. Shameful, plenty of great places to eat in New Paltz.
We decided to have a date night last night. We walked in the restaurant wasn’t busy maybe 4 tables. We stood there for five minutes waiting to be seated. After two waitresses passed us multiple times and didn’t acknowledge us… we decided to seat ourselves. We were waiting at the table for 6 minutes for someone to acknowledge us, waitresses again walked by multiple times. After an additional minute passed I told my husband we were leaving, we got up and walked out. It’s unfortunate as we’ve been here before with a great experience. Never returning again. We ended up at mountain brahous, we were acknowledged in 15 seconds and seated!
This was so bad. I'm not sure what the issue was, we were the only people in the place. Our food was not bad.. but certainly not good. Service however, well there wasn't any. I had to get up to get anything, we were served warm water! We asked for our soup that came with the meal to go. Then they forgot about it, then charged us for them! We said there was a mistake, then they took 20 minutes straightening it out. No money has been refunded yet, however there is still 2 pending charges!!
I was eating a Tokyo Sushi this past Sunday (1/11/25). I placed my order, and while I waited, I noticed the Sushi Chef was visibly sick: coughing, sneezing, shivering, etc. I felt concerned about illness exposure, but I told myself that he must have allergies because no business owner would allow their employees prepare RAW fish when they're visibly ill. Flash forward to today: I have been so sick for the last two days that I can hardly get out of bed. I am disappointed that an establishment the I have loved for years would disregard the health of their employees and their customers. The restaurant's management has a responsibility to provide a safe and healthy environment for the people who come through their doors, and it didn't happen. I will not be returning.
Came here first time because the reviews, I guess can’t really count on them, or because it’s a slow Tuesday so the ingredients aren’t that fresh? The beef are very smashed, the only taste from this dish is sweet. The service was just ok, I told them about it but they just blame on the sauce, I never give bad reviews, just very disappointed.
