I’m from the land of BBQ (Kansas City) where BBQ is so common that a place really has to be doing something right in order for the locals to like it. That being said, this place’s ribs and pastrami are legit!

We visited last year by chance and when we decided to come back to Gardiner again this year we knew we had to stop again! The pulled pork was EVEN BETTER than I remembered!

Duck, Rabbit and Chicken raised on the farm. The bbq duck was easily my favorite bbq I have ever had. This place is truly a hidden gem. Thinking about my next visit already. BTW, I live two hours away lol.

The food was great. Born and raised in the South I can tell you this is the best BBQ in the area. Most places just try to drown their meat in sauce and call it BBQ. This place gets it - the meat stands on its own and then a little sauce puts it over the top. Well done! Portions to price were good. 4 of us ordered 3 entrees and took enough home after for at least one person to have another meal. The restaurant isn't fancy - you're getting paper plates and red solo cups. But I'm 100% fine and comfortable with that. It's relaxed and family friendly. My only disappointment was that there wasn't any fresh tea - just bottle Lipton.

When six of us picky eaters all agree that our food selections are exceptional, then I know this is a restaurant worthy of coming back to again and again. The BBQ, sides, and pizza are all delicious. The service was excellent too! Whenever we visit this area of New York again, we'll be sure to dine here again.

Fresh and quality foods, best service and friendly staff. I had strip steak (medium cooked) so delicious and tasty. I even purchased 2 fresh strips steak for home. This place is so good! 100% recommend.

The brisket chili and the Bolognese sauce is AWESOME! And I am told that the Hot & Sour smoked pork soup is excellent too!

Super great place. The restaurant has a great atmosphere that is really nostalgic to me! They offer indoor and outdoor seating, which is great. The menus have wide variety. The pizza menu is out of this world, its honestly creative in all the right ways. The brisket, ribs, chicken, and pulled pork are mouth watering. I honestly never had better pulled pork in my life (ciabatta roll!! The best). The portions are very generous, the sides are wonderful too! It's hard to choose what to get cause everything is just so good. They also offer ice cream and milkshakes. There are so many flavors to choose from. This place is worth every penny you'll spend here. One of the best places to eat in the area, hands down.

The BEST bbq chicken I’ve had in my life! WOW! Stumbled upon this place by accident and I’m blown away. Outstanding food. Our table got ribs, seafood platter, pulled pork, chicken wings. Everything was excellent.

Came in for the first time after work to grab dinner. My takeout order was ready in minutes. They brought the food out to my car where I was waiting. And the food was phenomenal! I cleaned my plate. The pulled pork sandwich was tender and delicious. The coleslaw was perfect. Even the cornbread was moist. There weren't any leftovers. But I'll be back.

This place was amazing the food was out of this world! The service was also great! We had lunch here after spending time in a local brewery! Do not miss this place! The pulled pork & chicken wings WOW! We also had the brisket as an appetizer & was phenomenal!

Had the sampler with pastrami. Everything was excellent: Pulled Pork, Wings, Pastrami, and the Ribs pulled easily off of the bone. The sauce was understated, and complimented all of the offerings. Red Potato Salad was also very good.

First time ever writing a restaurant review on Google. I had been craving some southern BBQ and this place was delicious. Best part is that my Indian parents had BBQ food for the first time outside home and even two weeks later they can’t stop talking about the chicken wings and pizza. From my perspective, their pulled pork, shrimp, and wings were fantastic. Ribs and brisket was quite good too. It was a wonderful discovery and hopefully I will get a chance in future to stop by again.

Ate here two days in a row! Brisket pizza is excellent, sampler basket is delicious. Day two we got a white pizza, a shrimp scampi pizza (both had whole garlic cloves), a ribeye steak, and duck & rabbit tacos. Everyone in our party was pretty happy. The place is very laid back, serves beer and wine. There's a huge pond and an outdoor seating area so it can be considered dog friendly.

We knew it would be good but we didn’t know it would be the best we’ve ever had. The ribs were crazy tender, the pork was perfect—a lot of natural flavor accented by their awesome vinegar sauce. The Elmer Fudd —light airy & crispy crust, delicious tomato sauce, topped with tender rabbit & duck, just heaven on a plate. The service was excellent & the atmosphere was welcoming and interesting. Thank you for an amazing experience, you made our day!

I've ignored this place for a long time because of its outside appearance, and that was a big mistake. Don't let looks fool you, I am not a fan of wings and I absolutely loved their smoked wings (although we get the sauce on the side as we don't care for it as much as the plain smoked wings). Their pizza is amazing too, and so are the desserts. We've only done takeout so far, but we will be back to eat in for sure.

Wow wow ! Don’t let the looks deceive you! From the outside it’s pretty modest but wholly moly some of the best BBQ I’ve had in a while! We got the Elmer Fud pizza 🍕 and it’s bunny and half duck! We also got the sampler bbq their pastrami is the holy grail, sorry Katz, yours has been surpassed! So so good!

The food was delicious and I had the 1-2 rack of barbecue ribs. The sizing is generous and for a good price. Our waitress was very kind and funny. She remembered everyone’s order and came around to make sure the food was good.

Probably the best smoked chicken I have ever eaten! My wife, who I have to force to go to BBQ joints with me, got the pastrami taco and smoked chicken taco and raved about it. The server was extremely helpful, friendly and attentive, kitchen staff came out to see how we were doing throughout. Don't let the outside fool you, or the deer heads on the wall inside...food is A1!!!!

FANTASTIC!!! Brisket and Pulled pork Sandwiches...AMAZING!!! Homemade beans, Mac salad, potato salad, coleslaw and corn bread...all SO YUMMY!!! And the homemade chocolate ice cream milkshake was AWESOME!!! Not usually a 5 star rater for any restaurants but this place is seriously that great...even grabbed a brick oven pizza to go. Highly recommend 😁 Edit...STILL FREAKING AMAZING!!!

Don't let the looks of this place for you! This place was recommended To Us by a local and I'm so glad we listened! We ended up getting pizza instead of their Famous BBQ . That was a hard decision because their barbecue is rated so highly. We had the "Four Star caciocavallo cheese pizza". We added Pepperoni. Each corner is stuffed with a different cheese flavor. Red pepper, black pepper, garlic and traditional cheese. This place is a must try if you are in the area!

We shared the fougasse and chicken. Everything, including the chicken noodle soup and sides, were delicious! Be prepared for paper plates, plastic utensils, and dead deer on the wall. Nice outdoor seating and great views. Excellent food. Friendly service.

We had Brad from John Fazio Farms cater a party celebrating several important milestones in our family. Brad and his sous chef Benito were incredibly professional. We were faced not only with the challenge of social distancing but also our party was outside in a large tent during tropical storm Fay! Brad’s presentation of the food was amazing, and when the skies opened up and the tents did not do the job, Brad and Benito quickly sprang into action and made sure our guests were well taken care of under extremely difficult circumstances. The food was beyond fresh and some of the best cuisine we have ever tasted. We are a family of foodies, and we can’t say enough about the food. From the very beginning Brad built the menu around us. We basically gave him very little information to start with, telling him we wanted to go high end bbq, and he produced the perfect menu getting our input throughout the process. And then he surprised us with the most delicious fresh vegetable add ons the day of the party. Have I mentioned yet that the food was incredible? We just can’t say enough about the outstanding quality of John Fazio Farms’ food and service. Every one of our guest commented on how amazing the food and service was. We will definitely have them back for future parties.

If you love, smoke, bbq food, gourmet pizza, seafood, etc, this is the place to come. A gem of a restaurant in Modena, NY. with friendly and attentive staff and it's right off the Thruway. Can't recommend this place enough. Great for families as they have horses and farm animals on the premises.

Excellent place to eat & get take out! Why did we wait so long to try this place? At the suggestion of a few locals, we finally tried some take out. We had the taco #1 special (tacos with chicken), corn bread, mac and potato salads, tacos with pulled pork, and for dessert Tiramisu! The food was fresh, tasted AMAZING, and they even have farm fresh eggs for a great price! The eggs alone are worth stopping here! Prices are very reasonable for the portions. Take it from me, I can put away a dozen normal tacos. (2) pulled pork tacos fit the bill here! Trust the excellent reviews. Whether you’re a local, or making a pass through the area during apple picking season or whenever, stop here! You’ll be glad you did!

Discussed how we would arrange to drive back from 1.5 hours away just to eat more of this delicious food. Outdoor atmosphere was beautiful & the perfect end to our family outing. Staff could not have been more accommodating and genuinely nice.

Done right !!!! Bbq was amazing , half chicken was literally straight out of the slow cooker and cooked and flavored to perfection, just the right amount of smoke. Pizza was great, love the mix of semolina's to achieve a beautiful crust. IPA was fresh cold and our server was very knowledgeable and kind. Great to see good old fashioned awesome food prepared and served right. Thanks we will be back!

Our experience didnt start of the best. We went close to closing, and the initial person we ordered with made it feel like we were an inconvenience and told us the only option was to eat at the space outside. However, it was getting dark and it was cold. I also had my older mom and my 2 years old. Shout out to the manager (one of the owners? BRAD), he heard my concerns and saw my heart and accommodated us INSIDE. He truly turned a bad service experience to an excellent experience. We were able to enjoy our food and everything was delicious! Because of him, we will definitely be back!

Stopped by here on the way to New Paltz. Someone in the reviews said the pastrami here would stand up to any in the city, and I would definitely agree. Thick cut and juicy. The quality of the food, and especially the meat, is undeniable. The restaurant is unassuming, albeit on a pretty farm, from the outside, but the chef and butchers know what they’re doing. We also got the brisket pizza, which came with a smokey flavor from their woodfire stove. Brisket was excellent as well. Very unique and worth trying! I didn’t get the wings but they looked amazing.

What a hidden gem in the Hudson Valley (at the very least to these two new to the area). In the warmer months there's plenty of outdoor seating near a little pond but inside you'll find about 8-10 tables of various sizes. The BBQ options are top notch and the Pastrami can hold its own against any deli back in the city. There's also seafood and freshly made wood oven pizza too.

Great pizza place with award winning wings. Ordered a Margherita and a dozen wings. A nice thin crust pizza with fresh tasting sauce and toppings. Only knock was the bottom of the pizza was slightly burned. Otherwise the pizza tasted great. The wings tasted good as well. Wings were juicy and the sauce had a nice tangy taste. Pleasantly surprised by this place.

I’ve been here twice now, got the brisket sandwich the first time and now the fried seafood special. Everything is SO fresh, simple, flavorful, I’m honestly in awe. I need to find out his coleslaw recipe, it’s like what every other coleslaw wakes up wishing it is in the morning. For real, even the French fries are 👌 perfect. John strikes me as a really nice guy, very polite and present, and the facilities are positively gorgeous. You can tell from the moment you pull up that a lot of love has gone into the space. Next time I’m gonna try their pizza, cuz when you have entire bushes of basil growing right outside the front door you know it’s going to be home-y!

Wow. This place was awesome! My husband and I are super fussy about pizza because we lived in Italy and now live in NYC. It was truly delicious. Tender, nice charring and the toppings were so fresh: you can tell this all comes from a farm. Not overly seasoned. Just quality seasonings and let the ingredients shine. They accommodated my no cheese request (I know I’m weird) but my husband said the cheese was incredible, as were the smoked meats and veggies. Roasted garlic was sweet and no processed garlic salt in sight unlike so many other places. Can’t wait to bring my family here when they visit. Nice beer selection too and staff was lovely, despite clearly being rushed off their feet on a Sunday night. Loved it. Photo is of my husbands brisket and gravy pizza!

Came here on Saturday with my wife the food both quality and quantity was AMAZING!!! The only thing I wasn’t happy about was I couldn’t tip with card and our waitress Giana was very nice and attentive and would’ve like to give her a tip. So if you go make sure you bring cash to tip the waitresses

This place is amazing! The ribs melt in your mouth and are really delicious. Cold draft beer, wines and a amazingly friendly staff. I traveled across the country just because my brother told me I had to try this place, and I'm not disappointed!

My wife and I came here completely by chance looking for bbq while coming down I-87. We had the fougasse, mac n cheese w/ pulled pork and brisket w/ sides and everything was 5/5, 10/10, best you had in your life down to the cole slaw. Whoever John Fazio is, he and his people know exactly what they're doing.

I freaking love this place. I was surprised by how random the combination of food waspizza and barbecue but it all just makes sense. I think the sampler is a must-have. Overall, I loved it; I believe it’s the best barbecue around the area. You can feel that the place is hugging you, based on how cozy and warm it is, and the food is just a comforting kiss. The pastrami sandwich was also a perfect 10 out of 10 for me. The Thousand Island dressing had some cheeses that were delicious. 100% recommend.

From a foodie person who has a brick oven pizza and I'm telling you...order the pizza, you will not regret it. The pizza is as close as you can get in the area without having to go to Italy. We ordered margharita pizza and pepperoni, a sampler and Mac & cheese. All was great but my kids really loved the pizza and the Mac and cheese. Would definitely hit this place again when I'm in the area.

We were driving around on a late sunny Labor Day afternoon, feeling a bit hungry for an early dinner, googled the options on our map and came across this place. What a charming little surprise. I found it to be like a throwback to the kind of bespoke mom & pop roadside barbecue joints you might have visited as a kid in the 1950s or 60s. All that was missing was a little Richie Valens or Eddie Cochran on a jukebox. Very basic weathered rustic look on the outside, humble wood panel decor on the inside. You order at the front, cafeteria style, take a number, pay, and sit at one of the tables inside, or at one of the dozen picnic benches next to the large pond outside. My wife and her sister shared the half rack of ribs, I had the brisket sandwich. They were SUPERB. There is good wine by the glass or bottle from a nearby vineyard. I had the red. We will be back, quite a bit. Too bad they are not close enough for takeout. They also have fresh farm chicken and beef to buy by the pound. The prices on everything are moderate, family friendly.

Incredible. Could be the best BBQ I’ve had. Classic BBQ with actual “fall-off-the-bone” ribs (see photos!), the best pulled pork I’ve ever had and I don’t even like pork, crispy, crunchy chicken wings, a tangy BBQ sauce you can’t get enough of, crispy coleslaw, sweet, fluffy cornbread, sweet baked beans… the list goes on. The brisket was actually my least favorite and even that was delicious. Indoor and outdoor picnic-table seating. Get the BBQ platter so you can try everything and really go to town. Best deal and meal. Can’t wait to come back. 5 stars!!!!

It was fabulous. I wanted a great dinner experience and two of my favorite foods were in one place. Bbq chicken and the fixings. And pizza! I loved the bbq. It was a savory slightly sweet sauce. I couldn’t get enough. The chicken was cooked to perfection. Just fell off the bone. The pizza had a nice crust. Loved the roma tomato sauce. They used fresh mozz and they hand tossed the crust. I had their baked beans and cornbread too. Soooo good! I will definitely be back. You should not pass this up if you’re near.

Delicious food. Bbq meats so yummy they fall off the bone. They were empty indoors so we had the place to ourselves but they seem to have a flow of customers for takeout. Very simple bbq. Had the tasty duck pizza. Wow. The wings, the fresh potato chips.. and geez the prices were awesome. We are from Brooklyn eating in there with a group of 8 meeting these very good prices with this amount of food it made us all very satisfied. We will be back. The drive up from Brooklyn was worth it. A great dinner after enjoying Minnewaska state park.

We had a great time at John Fazio’s today! We ordered 5 different pizzas, the prosciutto, margherita, duck, pulled pork, and pastrami. Ultimately the pastrami was our favorite but all were solid. John and the team were all very nice and provided friendly and swift service. I didn’t get the chance to try their bbq menu but will next time we are in the area! Added bonus they have some cold craft beers on tap :)

First time here and we definitely will be back! We each enjoyed our brisket sandwiches under the outside pavilion. It was perfectly smoked with just the right amount of sauce. Great spot to enjoy the peaceful outdoors and we even brought our pup with us. Afterwards, we took a stroll by the lake and left feeling full! Look forward to trying other menu options.

Really good ribs! Fall of the bone tender and the most amazing moist sweet corn bread! I should have bought more to take home! The sweet beans were surprisingly excellent as well. The pulled pork sandwich was good but not the best and needed some sort of sauce to make it more flavorful and the potato salad was really lacking- skip that side. Waitress and owner were both very nice and helpful. Clean bathroom & good lunch prices too; definitely recommend if in the area.

Reviews are overly generous. Friendly owner. Pizzas were about 14" - one is enough for 2 people. Seemingly wonderous selection disappoints. Good crust. So-so toppings. Piggy Salad: The menu description was better than the execution. I actually would come back - if anything to support a local - and it wasn't bad --- just not great. We gave it a B-.

After an afternoon of skydiving you want something to fill you up. This is the spot to do just that. We didn't, however, expect find ribs AND pizza... have to say that we were happy we made the trip here. Overall, their barbecue is good enough that it doesn't need the extra helping of sauce, unless you're into that. The brisket, had the classic smoke rings associated with a good slow barbecue, but I feel that I may have gotten the end of it as I didn't get enough pink in my cut. The wings had a great smoky flavor to them as well and were very tasty. Get yourself extra corn-bread as it's moist and flavorful. The pizza is made by hand, and it's fresh. The crust is crunchy and they have a good sauce for being outside of NYC... lol. That, combined with a good selection of local beers on tap and a bottle of Freefall sangria, with a scenic outdoor dining area, you're looking to have a wonderful meal that won't disappoint.

My wife and I are retired nurses and we spend our time in a small RV traveling the US. BBQ restaurants, of many different regional varieties, are a go-to destination for us. This are some of the best ribs I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Big ribs - no baby backs here - with a nice layer of fat (where the flavor is) cooked perfectly. Reasonable amount of smoke without overwhelming, tender without cooked to mush. Absolutely fantastic. Four (vs 5) stars (we didn't try the mac and cheese) because the sides are nothing special. We'll certainly sample the store next time.

they have some great options, took the salad with the pulled pork and the pizz with the duck. The duck wasn't noticeable which was disappointing and the salad was good a bit too sweet. The outdoor space is great even though it feels further away and they serve you with take out dishes/utensils. Overall good food.

I pass by here a lot since I live nearby and I finally took the time to try it out and I'm glad I did! Food was very good, not the best bbq I've had (Texas spoiled me) but it is very good bbq for NY and the area! Nice and smokey, the sauce is tasty, I had the platter with brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and chicken and honestly the chicken wings were incredible! I'd come here for those alone! Pizza was a bit of a let down, tasty but the bread wasn't very crisp like you'd expect from a brick oven. Overall definitely a spot to try out! I'll definitely be back here!

A really upstate suburban family BBQ place. Best barbecue ever? No, but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. The ambiance is fun. There will be numerous dead deer heads staring at you, but it’s fine. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. For the food, the wings are very good. They’re Smokey and the sauce is pretty good. I stuck with poultry and also had the smoked duck. Very tasty also. The brisket looks ok, I’ll leave that to Texas. The pizza was also just ok, maybe 6.8/10. The sides were ok also. The max salad was dry-ish, there isn’t much, if any, mayo. The corn bread is nice, but very cakey. Tip is you can call ahead and get your name on the list to avoid a wait.

Great Non-BBQ food loved most of the other things I have had from here, I just do not order the BBQ meat because it tastes like it was cooked days before and then frozen or refrigerated and then thawed just for me and I hate rewarmed tasting meat. I guess I just have a problem because it does not seem to bother other people but to me old meat tastes gross, I am disgusted by that re-cooked taste of meat. The BBQ tastes like meat re-warmed. You can put all the sauce you want on re-cooked meat and it still has that taste and smell of like old meat or something it just tastes off to my taste-buds. Why can't a really awesome location and great feel for a place also have really fresh delicious smoked meats? I have had this same experience at almost every BBQ joint in the north, in the south NEVER. You would never get this raunchy bite in your mouth. I throw it away when I encounter it. Just so off putting for me. Also BBQ Beans should have more flavor than just opening a can of beans this happens at all of the BBQ places I have been to in the NE. In the south they have so many flavors in the beans they make them good enough that they could be your meal and they are also smoked! Not here. Sad. I would love for these guys to just get on board with fresh BBQ and I would be 100% in and go several times a week I live nearby. But since they do not, I will stick to other non BBQ items, that works better for me. I love local and I want them to do well so I want to support them.

Despair comes in many forms. The failure to reconcile with a now-deceased father, the daily tedium of career mediocrity, countless chronic injuries, or the loss of friends to drugs and alcohol. That which I experienced upon dining at John Fazio Farms Barbecue transcended any other. As the American philosopher Eric Hoffer said, "Disappointment is a sort of bankruptcy—the bankruptcy of a soul that expends too much in hope and expectation." The idea of a good early-evening BBQ meal on a damp, chilly Wednesday was like a bright light illuminating my imagination. Then reality arrived. The meal I was served at JFFB (with the blank, black eyes of dead deer heads staring down at me) was the worst I’ve had in the Hudson Valley. Dry, grey, over-cooked slices of fatty brisket on a too-thick ciabatta bun and an under-cooked, over-salted pizza...mmmm, just what the doctor ordered. The only thing that earns five stars about this establishment, which, by the way, is positioned adjacent to an algae-covered, mosquito-infested swamp, is the audacity to remain open while serving food this bad. I would rather eat microwaved cat food than ever return to this restaurant.

The food was good but the service was terrible. Nobody greeted us when we walked in even tho it was nearly empty, just the man making pizza who asked what we wanted in a very brusque manner. He got huffy when we needed just 5 min to look over the menu (which we did not know where it was bc it was not displayed anywhere). When he heard us say we wanted to dine in, he very curtly said they close at 8pm. It was 7:15 so I asked again to clarify if we could sit down. He only repeated that they close at 8, which I suppose was his way of saying no. I had been getting some really bad vibes from this place since the moment we walked in and this made me more hesitant to actually order something. B I was hungry and we were already there. When we were ready to order he acted confused by what I requested (the fried cod sandwich) and stomped his way over to the register only for a waitress to return and take our order. We sat outside and ate our food, and guess what we were all finished and ready to go BEFORE closing time at 8pm!!!! The food was good but soured by this awful experience with the man making pizza. I don’t know if he was the owner or the manager or someone in charge, but he needs to learn some manners. No matter tho, I ain’t coming back here anyway. 🙂
