Tucked away on a quiet street in Murray Hill, Ahimsa was a pleasant surprise in food and atmosphere. We’re not vegetarians and there were so many things we wanted to try. Great for gluten free diets. We had a bottle of wine, samosas, onion pakoras, alu gobi, naan bread and an enormous dosa filled with a delicious mushroom, potato and onion filling. The staff were so nice and accommodating!
Had ordered dal makhni (which came with portion of rice), tandoori roti, papad (came with imli and dhaniya chutney). Meal was completed with super tasty kheer. Very warm and personal service. Excellent ambience and politeness of all staff. Dal Makhni was customised as per palate… Highly recommend for true Indian flavours. Thank you Sanket for making us feel at home.
Truly exceptional food and very nice atmosphere, great service. We had the Tofu Kofta, which was the perfect amount of spicy, creamy, and so well cooked. Garlic naan was dotted with fresh garlic. And a huge part-thin dosa with potatoes and other sauces on the side. I’m saying perfect a lot, but it was perfect.
First of all on last minute they were able to accommodate our big party with very welcoming smile. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The staff was kind and attentive, and the atmosphere felt cozy and welcoming. Whether you’re vegetarian or not, you’ll love this place. Highly recommend! This was our first time and we are already making plans to go there again.
I travelled Newyork first time n had a lunch with my son and husband @Ahimsa. I was so happy to see the strict Jain food (No roots) in Newyork....Food prepared by Chefs are from Nepal n they did a good job.... Excellent food ....We had ordered methi malai matar , chana masala, tandoori roti, lachchha parantha.... They had served rice too...everything was perfect n spice level was medium ...Staff is very supportive n helpful....Price is little bit up but one should visit Ahimsa for vegetarian choice n esp Jain food requirements...Thanks for helping me out to get a tasty food in Newyork.
Amazing! This is the best palak I’ve ever had and that’s my favourite meal so I’ve tried a lot. The staff were so nice and attentive and even told us how they make their palak. The menu is very vegan friendly, it should be on more nyc vegan guides. Can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu. I’ll be sure to bring my friends next time
I would give Ahimsa more stars if I could! Rightfully named after the most important yogic principle, this vegetarian/vegan Indian restaurant is top-tier in quality & service. This evening I had the samosa appetizer which came with two delicious chutneys for dipping. For my entree I had the masala dosa, which was the best I’ve had outside of India. 10/10 would highly recommend, it is a healthy portion with a huge amount of bread, a big serving of sambar, coconut & tamarind (?) chutney. Stellar. The ambiance was pleasant: tidy & inviting, menus come on tablets which is nice. The waitstaff were very sweet & accommodating (it was a Saturday evening at prime time & I was dining solo which I understand could be disappointing for staff). Nonetheless, they were very accommodating, welcoming & provided great service. Thank you, Ahmisa, I will be back! Ram Ram 🙏
A True Hidden Gem – Exceptional in Every Way at Ahimsa! From the moment we walked into Ahimsa, we were met with a warm and inviting atmosphere that set the tone for a perfect dining experience. The setting was intimate and beautifully styled, with attention to detail that made it feel both elegant and cozy. We ordered several dishes, and each one was a masterpiece. The ingredients were clearly fresh and thoughtfully sourced, and the presentation was impeccable — just look at the attached photo! The balance of flavors was spot-on, with just the right mix of creativity and comfort. It’s rare to find a place where every dish makes you pause and savor each bite. The service was equally impressive. Our server was kind, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. They offered thoughtful recommendations and checked in just enough without ever being intrusive. To top it all off, the wine selection was beautifully curated and paired wonderfully with the meal. Whether you’re a foodie, a casual diner, or someone just looking for a special night out, Ahimsa will absolutely impress you. Highly recommend — we’ll definitely be back!
Offers unique dishes that are not commonly found in most Indian restaurants! Particularly loved the vada (savory lentil flour doughnut) and idli (rice cake) in sambar soup. Everything else was good too and appreciated the staff triple checking with the kitchen on dietary restrictions. Highly recommend!
Gluten free vegan options! Was stuck in the city alone so I came here. I got my samosa fix and it was lovely and fresh. Also sometimes dosas are not made authentically but these are deliciously perfect. The ceiling window is gorgeous. Really good for peaceful lunch. They have a bar and such in the front but dining in the back is where its at.
Fantastic Indian restaurant! They only serve vegetarian food but it’s seriously good. Service was top notch as well. We had to wait for the table for a bit but they were very accommodating. The only problem we had was with the spice levels. We ordered everything medium level spicy but it was more on the higher-end of the heat spectrum than the rest of the places. So if you don’t want spicy or want the least amount of spice, just go for mild. But food was still amazing.

Large menu with both north and south Indian dishes. The garlic naan was flavorful. The food was spicier than expected. The paneer makhani was good. Alu ghobi was decent. Dessert was ok.
Came here with 4 other friends on a reservation for Diwali and we were seated quickly. My vegan friend appreciated the large variety of vegan options. The portions are quite small though. Gobi Manchurian was my favorite dish, the tomato onion chili uttappam was spicy but also very good. Service could’ve been faster, but the restaurant was quite busy that day. Overall this is a very cute restaurant with great vegan options and a cozy vibe!
The place is beautiful. The food is good. They don’t serve as much rice as other places. Keep in mind that this is a fully vegetarian restaurant, but the prices are the same as if there were animal protein in them. It’s a nice place if you don’t mind not having chicken, lamb, or fish in any of the dish options
Amazing Food ! Pure Veg Restaurant ! Little Bit Overpriced ! Fast Service ! Digital Menu Card ! We tried following :- 1. Dal Tadka - 3/5 2. Paneer Makhani - 4/5 3. Garlic Naan - 5/5 4. Butter Naan - 5/5 5. Masala Chai - 4/5 ( Good Tea) 6. Lemonade - Taste Good 7. Batata Vada - 5/5 (A Must Try)
I recently dined at Ahimsa in New York, eager to explore their vegetarian offerings. My meal featured Dabeli, Misal Pav, Set Dosa, Tamarind Rice, and Aloo Tikki, each with its own distinct flavor. The Dabeli was a delightful surprise—a well-balanced mix of spicy mashed potatoes, peanuts, pomegranate, and chutneys stuffed inside a soft pav. The blend of sweetness and spice made every bite exciting. The Misal Pav had the perfect level of heat, with a flavorful sprouted bean curry complemented by crispy farsan toppings. The accompanying pav was fresh and warm, ideal for soaking up the rich, spicy gravy. The Set Dosa was light and fluffy, served with coconut chutney and sambar. The texture was just right—soft yet slightly crisp on the edges. It felt wholesome and comforting. The Tamarind Rice was a standout in simplicity and taste. The tangy tamarind flavor, paired with roasted peanuts and spices, gave it a beautiful depth. It was both satisfying and refreshing. The Aloo Tikki was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, bursting with bold spices. Served with tangy chutneys, it had the perfect crunch and balance of flavors that made it a must-try. Beyond the food, the service was warm and attentive and the ambiance was clean and peaceful. Whether you’re craving street food or South Indian flavors, Ahimsa delivers an authentic and enjoyable experience. Definitely a place worth revisiting! It was my son's birthday and we enjoyed the different dishes from India very much..
Ordered Misal Pav, good in taste and spicy as expected.\n\nFarsan and Onion were too little for the curry quantity. \n\nBread was crisp, and packing was good.

The food was bland and not at all worth the price. Masala Papad was 11$ and it was terrible and just a singular small papad came. Chinese bhel was okish. Manchurian was also weird. Set dosa was doughy and sambar was terrible. Chutney had no taste. Only the ambience was good
