Opinions de Beauty Bar New York
It's right across the street from the nugget place. The beauty bar was our last fling for the weekend and saved us from having a dreadful night (it was raining and cold out). Drinks were cheap, the bartenders were kind and ambience was perfect. Plus you could get a free manicure when you order a drink. After 8 or so karaoke 🎤 was available and so the night continued with many laughs, lots of singing and awesome people.
Beauty Bar is great. I find myself there often. Very different and quirky crowd. Post punk meets glam rock with pop ins from hipsters and “normal” people. The Owner is a cool guy too. Get your nails done while you booze it up if that’s your kind of thing. Good drink specials, especially PBR cans. Comedy shows that are staged every so often are actually done at a high level and very funny.
Great bar with fun and retro vibes. Good dance floor and eclectic seating. Loved dancing to Abba and other older hits. If you're in the area, I'd recommend stopping by!
Friendly atmosphere, the door guys check your IDs right at the door but are always sweet and usually flirty. This is a casual neighborhood bar where you can get a flavor for the whole block. A lot of alphabet city residents drink there. It's the perfect place for a great night to start.
I love Beauty Bar's DJs, their bartenders, the atmosphere. It's just a good, fun, unpretentious place to get a drink, and they're always spinning interesting music that you don't often hear in Manhattan bars. Anyone that gives this place fewer than four stars doesn't get it. I agree though, the place gets hot. Dress accordingly.
Amazing leftover hippie and 70/80’s vibe music, with hair saloon equipment in the background, such a sick vibe
Amazing bar. So unique - you can even get your nails done! Awesome place to dance or just chill out, and everyone was so nice.
The nail girl Blaise was wonderful!! Will be back
Fantastic bar that has been a part of the neighborhood for decades. Do you want to hear 80s music with reasonably priced drinks, not too cheap, not too expensive, this is where you want to party!! Spread the news! There’s a wonderful house music party that happens the last Thursday of every month. It’s fine Dj JMP Williams , that’s the bomb!! We have Michael Tee and friends on the weekends.! And a group of veteran bartenders is that rock!! Please share with your friends!!!!
from the beginning this place astonished me. the vibe is great, they offered a promotion of cocktail (very tasty) plus manicure for only $10! the dj in the back room was spinning amazing 80s-90s mixes and we were dancing all night
Twig was twigtastic! Awesome bar and music. If you want throwbacks and sweetheart bartenders this is the spot
Went after 2a on Saturday night. Dance floor was hoppin good music, great time. I am on the "older" side, felt comfortable, nice crowd.
Super fun spot that is different. If we had more time I would have gotten my nails done. Bartender was cool and it was a fun spot to grab a drink.
If you’re looking for a place to dance but also an amazing manicure (Rachel does an AMAZING job!), you’ve found it! Yes you read that right - a manicure is complimentary with a $10 drink.
Blaise literally made my day. Will definitely be back.
I have off and on come here for over 20 years, this is a family loved establishment! Highly recommend! Drinks are amazing! Also they do have a hired manicurist there that does nails as well!
I have been to Beauty Bar many times with my friends. Over the weekend, my coat was taken (most likely by a friend of mine) in a private room that was reserved for a birthday party. I reached out to the owner, Michael, the following day and he was more than happy to let me review the security camera footage to see who took my coat. He stayed for over two hours when the bar was closed to see we reviewed all of the footage. We did not find who took my coat but fortunately I was able to find it at a neighboring bar. I am very thankful for him taking the time and assisting me in finding who may have taken my coat. I would definitely recommend coming here on a weekend for drinks with friends, but just keep track of your coat!
I absolutely loved this place. For being on 14th St their drink prices are great. Not to mention you can get a manicure for $10 that includes a cocktail! The manicurist that day was super friendly and she did a great job! The vibe is chill and laid back. The nostalgic beauty salon theme is awesome. They have comedy specials weekly and burlesque twice a month on Mondays. Will definitely be back!
One of the best bars in nyc. I spent my 20s here also met a bunch of cool people and even some celebrities
Had a great time dancing on a Saturday night in March 2018. I don't even recall being ID'ed until I purchased my drink. The music made the atmosphere, very retro 70s/80s style. Everyone in the bar was singing along, and we even hung our coats on a coat rack by the washrooms which was a relief. Not sure if there is coat check, but I'm glad we were able to get passed it and safely got our items back at the end of the night.
Such a fun spot, with great music & great prices! If you're looking for an amazing time Def go on Friday or Saturday when the dance floor is open! Just be prepped to possibly wait for a drink cause it can get packed but trust me, the bartenders noticed you haha!
Best Rock Bar in NYC. The music and scene is still there! Love that you can still be in the E Village with cool people of all walks of life. As it should be. The staff is cool the drinks are still cheap. Also, fun for photos if you want to pretend you’re in an old beauty salon while getting ripped with friends!
Spent my birthday here with a group of friends and danced the night away! I just love it here. The inside is a 50s salon turned bar and besides the fact that you can get your nails done and have a drink from the bar, the atmosphere is exactly what I look for : lively, fun, intimate and trendy.
I didn’t have any food there but ts cool ash
Love this little dance bar in NYC. It's an former beauty salon and you can see it in the deco and before 10pm you still can get a decent manicure for 10$ (one drink included). The dance floor in the back room is on the smaller side and at busy times it feels overcrowded. But the music was always dancable and groovy ;-) Drinks are strong and reasonable priced, staff very friendly.
Bartenders are very friendly and their drinks are good, and strong. Definitely feel like you’re getting your moneys worth going here
The martini/mani deal is the best bargain in the city!! This bar is a neighborhood GEM vibes immaculate 💯
Amazing place! Really a little gem :) the bartender was soo nice and cool and the overall vibe and clientele was so great. I got a manicure with my drink and she was fun to talk to.
My favorite bar in NYC! The drinks and atmosphere are great. The drinks are great and the staff and patrons are both kind. As a disco lover, I love coming on nights where the DJs play 60s/70s/80s music. The back room for dancing is lively but not too chaotic. It’s a great place to come if nightclubs aren’t for you but you still want to enjoy music and dancing. Just note if you want to get a manicure I highly recommend coming earlier in the day or you’ll be waiting for quite awhile!
Amazing place, will recommend to anyone visiting New York. Definitely unique, the place offering good 80’s vibe and a rock music type bar. Drinks are affordable mostly. Management are always on top of everything which is a definition of a well run place.
Brock is amazing! Best bartender in NYC.
I got my nails done by Blaise and Taylor and it changed my life
My friends found this place one night, and what a find! This cozy little place turns from a salon to a bar/night club after hours. They had this cool, retro music playing all night. The dance floor was packed, but we were still able to get a little dance circle going. The drinks were good, and reasonably priced. Even though the place is small (cozy), they had some seating available for when you might want to just chill and chat for a while. Both the staff and clientele were friendly, which completed the pleasant experience of the night. I would highly recommend giving it a try.
Brock the bartender is absolutely 👍🏻 phenomenal and the staff are excellent and always love the classic scenery of the iconic bar/ dance floor
Just too, too, much fun. Even for a bunch of "old ladies" as us. We range in age from 46 to 65 and let me tell you...even in the mob of trendy and cool 20 something's we felt welcomed and not at all out of place. There were smiles everywhere. It was crowded but not obscenely so. The staff are friendly and as efficient as I could expect given the amount of people in there on a Friday night.
Special shout out to BLAISE for keeping America’s nails lookin clean n’ pretty!!
rachel is lovely!! the free manicure comes with a wonderful conversation with the manicurist and it is more than well worth it
They really do give manicures. Also the music was amazing
Love this place, especially after 11pm when the dance floor is open. Great music and vibe.
The people there are no nice and did a great job. Thank you! Already booked my next appt!
Option 1 – Friendly and upbeat: "If you want a spot where you can dance and get a fabulous manicure (Rachel is incredible!), this is the place! Believe it or not, your manicure comes free with a $10 drink." Option 2 – Polished and playful: "Looking for a fun night out with great music and a flawless manicure? Rachel works magic! And yes — the manicure is complimentary when you purchase a $10 drink." Option 3 – Short and energetic: "Dance, sip, and get pampered! Rachel’s manicures are perfection — and they’re free with any $10 drink. You read that right!"
I used to live 4 blocks away, and stopped in all the time. It's a must visit when I'm in the city. They have wonderful themed music nights and a very charming atmosphere. The drinks are great and they even have non-alcoholic options. Win-win!
The Saturday+Sunday Bartender Brock is one of my favorite people in the world ❤️ for $12 you get any classic cocktail AND a manicure!! the hottest deal in New York
I stumbled upon Beauty Bar NYC while browsing for something fun to do — and what a find! They host stand-up comedy shows, which is how I first discovered the place. Let’s just say… I wasn’t disappointed. The bar has a vibrant, quirky charm with a throwback design straight out of the ‘80s. If you’re from that era (or just wish you were), you’ll either smile or feel a wave of sweet nostalgia. Think neon lights, vintage salon chairs, and an atmosphere that doesn’t take itself too seriously — in the best way. The crowd? Super friendly. The comedy show? Hilarious and full of surprises. It’s cozy, relaxed, and filled with good vibes all around. I’m already planning my next visit. If you’re looking for something unique and fun in NYC, this spot is a must
This is the best bar ever. Everyone who works here is fabulous. There is live music or a DJ after 10 or 11. I believe that Th-Sunday if you purchase a certain amount, you also get a free manicure. I had my nails done and it was fabulous! This bar has a timeless quality and calls a clientele that are friendly, chill, interesting and fun. It is such a great place! I one hundred percent recommend this bar. It is a must. The preservation of the bar's past through integration into its current life just adds to the pleasant vibe. I am so happy a friend of mine showed me this one.
I visited on August 3rd, 2016. Eccentric but relaxed neighborhood bar. You can come here as you are and fit in. The pretension level is 0. I had fun (I am a straight male) getting the free manicure (ok, I tipped the technician with her favorite drink!). The male bartender was rude. I've been to NYC probably 6 times and this is the first stereotypically rude New Yorker I've met, although I'm a midwesterner, so put it in perspective. The older woman working behind the bar was fun and made me and some newly acquired friends some interesting drinks, gratis. It was comedy night; unfortunately not very good however.
Recently met up w others at this place I never heard of. We ended up here cuz original plans fell through --we had the best time ever. The 80s 90s mixes were on point, the bartenders were great, crowd was mixed and above all else the doorman is quite the character. Great times! I'd go again
Went there on a Friday night with friend to celebrate a birthday. It's a nice little bar with a really fun aesthetic and a rear area for dancing or presumably private events. The drinks were well-priced and the service was fast. The crowd was a bit older, which was a nice change from all the young, student bars in the area. It had an atmosphere of more relaxed fun instead of loud drinking.
This place is super cute! I love the dancing, cute retro beauty chairs & the drinks are a pretty good price. The crowd is usually on the younger side. (NYU kids) It does tend to get packed early on in the night on weekends.
Some people are calling this a "dive" bar, I wouldn't call it that. I think it's a staple neighborhood classic and if you hit it on a good night with a few of your closest friends you are gonna have a great time. My first time was on a Saturday night and they were only playing throwback tunes, my friends got manicures along with their cocktails, and we danced all night after that. I went again for their karaoke night, seems like it's a consistent crowd that attends that, got a little weird at times but didn't have a bad time!
Neither the manicure nor the cocktails will be the best you've ever had, but it's pretty hard to beat $10 for one of each. I've only had the manicure twice and both times enjoyed chatting with my manicurist as much as anything else, and ended up satisfied with my nails and my drink. Good place for drinking right after work or very late at night - in between it gets a little too crowded for me, but not unbearable.
Cool spot. It's a little dingy but that's part of the charm. Awesome bartenders and you can't beat a free manicure with a purchase of a cocktail. It's not the best manicure however it did last pretty long for a regular manicure. I love the vintage hair dryers and beauty shop decor, makes for fun picture taking. Drinks are pretty stiff. They do have dancing and events in the back but I didn't stay long enough to check it out. We pretty much came to start the night off and ended up elsewhere. I will come back and to the drink + mani again (btw, I think it was about $10 all together, not bad at all). I will add pictures later :)
Beauty Bar can be summed up in three words: charming, entertaining, and distinctive. Although the venue is compact, it never feels cramped thanks to its clever design and layout. Tucked away in the back is a cozy private room, perfect for hosting intimate gatherings or lively parties with friends. The DJ curates a nostalgic playlist filled with timeless classics that keeps the energy vibrant throughout the night. The atmosphere is inviting and fun, making it a great spot to unwind. The drink menu features a variety of options that are both delicious and reasonably priced, ensuring a delightful experience without breaking the bank.
have had multiple bday parties here. cheap to rent, drinks are well priced. manager not the easiest to communicate with / not the kindest (which is well known), but didnt stop us from having a great time
I enjoyed my time at Beauty Bar it reminded me of my favorite Texas dive bars and clubs. The bartenders sounded a bit condescending when taking orders, but maybe I'm reading too much into it. Only things I can say are that service could improve, and the line to the restroom is annoying. Waiting, and moving around can get difficult in the first section. The music was great in both rooms, the first part features more rock, and the back section 80's music so I recommend moving between rooms. Overall a fun experience and the right community I was looking for.
I used to love this bar so much. That was ten years ago and the vibe has changed so much. If you never visited this bar before, please do it. But if you’re wondering if going back after some years is a good idea, please don’t. The lights are so bright now, the music is like all the 80’s hit wonders over and over and over. Customer service is very very good and the crowd is young, like between 21 and 35 tops. Lots of young women during their girls night out and very young couples. It feels like a home party with a Spotify playlist. In a good way and just if you like 80’s hits and being sweat.
It was super crowded after work — even on a Tuesday. A decent happy hour. If you've got the nerve, take them up on the drink-'n'-manicure offer. Fun late-night dancing in the back. A bar that's definitely not good for a private conversation, but it's great for socializing.
Came here on a Saturday night. Was my first visit and could be the last. Fashioned in a beauty salon setting , the dance floor is quite small. The night I was here, it was a retro themed party. The tiny dance floor doesn't allow too much room to move around. The drinks are overpriced for it's quality.
Whoever the DJ is on weekends does not take song requests, which is weird but fine, however if you make the mistake of going up to place a request he will absolutely FLIP OUT on you. I have never seen a DJ lose his sh** like that over someone wanting to make a request...which is a very normal thing to do at a bar like this. Really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Also, the men on the dance floor are more predatory than average. I give the 3 stars because the drinks are priced well, the decor is cool, and location is good.
Went on a Friday and it was pretty packed. The drinks were good and the manicurists were nice, but of course it didn't last too long. It was just hard to move around in there bc it's pretty small. Then there's people constantly asking you to go to the comedy show downstairs.
Ok if you're into neighborhood dive bars. Tried a drink on their menu, didn't like it. Then asked for my usual and bartender gave it to me on the house even though I offered to pay, which I really appreciate (I went there to watch my supervisor's girlfriend dance in a 🦃 👙 lol)
not a lot of diversity in music (basically no other genres like latin or jamaican), its really white dominated, so if ur a POC u may feel a little out of place (personally its how I felt), the back dancing room smells like throw up or feet, its really smelly. But the bartenders are nice.
My best friend and I went to Beauty Bar for the 1st time ever earlier this evening to celebrate my new job. He got a mani and we had 2 rounds of drinks. Both times I left cash tip since I have worked in this industry myself for many years and know that cash is king when it comes to tips. We close the tab and we get stopped at the door unexpectedly and the bartender accused us for not leaving tip meanwhile we left cash tip both times that we picked up the drinks. She was there right in front of us when I left her the cash tips on the bar BOTH TIMES and it wasn't crazy busy at all. It was busy but not like anywhere near college bar busy. After I told her what went down, she accused me of being a liar, huffed and puffed then walked away. My best friend was speechless and stunned. I was dumbfounded that she caused a scene in the 1st place. We both literally had a great time up until that happened. Needless to say, this will be our 1st and last time going there. Terrible demeanor and service that left a really poor taste in our mouths given that we're both established people in our late 30's born and raised in NYC. This situation was very insult to both of us. It almost feels like native New Yorkers are nnot appreciated and welcomed here. It almost feels like native New Yorkers are not appreciated and welcomed here. They had security cameras all over so they can just easily check to see for themselves. Other than that, mani was superb and drinks were as well hence the 2 star rating.
I love the concept and the vibe of the actual bar, it was clean and quiet enough to have a great conversation with the bartender there (Brock was the best!). The nail tech Rachel unfortunately made this experience nothing to write about. She was rude and condescending towards my friend and I when we had our nails done and didn't do a good job with our cuticles. When either of us would try to change the topic or try to say something positive, she would make faces at us and say something negative again. She also used a "quick dry" oil on our nails which made our final nail polish coat have bubbles in them. It was very sloppy and not worth the price. There was a 20 minute wait to get our nails done and we were looking forward to the experience since we were visiting the city. I wouldn't stop by this place in a future trip, at least not for the manicure part..
I discovered this bar on TikTok and was really excited to check it out. The drinks were strong and cheap for only $10 with the included manicure, but my experience with one of the “nail techs” Rachel, was disappointing as she displayed a negative attitude and some hostility towards me. The whole interaction felt aggressive and bordered on hostile the moment she learned I was Gen-Z and she basically talked down to me and disagreed with anything I said. Even when I complimented her to try to make the interaction more positive, she continued shut me down and tried to one up me. It was truly the rudest service experience I’ve ever had and I’m unsure if I’ll ever return due to that single interaction. I even left with bubbly nail polish on my nails so I would never return for the manicure maybe just drinks, but at point I’ll just go to another bar. Really disappointing as this is quite an iconic bar from the 90s with a unique concept that I was excited to support but I won’t be returning if Rachel is present.
I've been to this place a few times. The drinks aren't that great (pretty weak) And the back room gets way too hot. The only good thing about this place is the music and that people go there just to dance. I brought a large group of friends from out of town to this place and the bouncer wouldn't let me in because he thought my ID was fake. I'm 23 years old and told him he could scan my OD and when I asked him for a manager he told me the scanner "was charging" and that he wouldn't call a manager and to get out. I'll never be back and won't be recommending it to others anymore.
I felt that the bartender took advantage of the fact that I was an international tourist. When I tried to pay for my 7$ drink by credit card the bartender said that I had to either pay with cash or add additional fees, as the minimum is 10$. It wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't expected an additional tip! I found that very unfair and rude. In addition, the bartender wasn't very friendly to begin with. I've been to a couple of great bars in NYC, but this seems to be an outlier.
Disappointed. I've been coming to this bar for years. Had to help my wife in the bathroom for (personal reasons). We took not even 5min. The bartender bashed the bathroom door repeatedly and demanded to know why I had to help my wife. I said it was personal, but we were thrown out anyways. I asked to speak with the owner on the matter and he was reasonable. A gentleman. We left anyways. Ridiculous. Horrible staff.
Got my credit and debit cards stolen here. Love the place but this has never happened to me anywhere else in the city. Wallet was still in my purse but all credit cards and cash were gone. Same thing with the friend I went with. Thieves went on a shopping spree at Bloomingdale’s the next morning.
Total disappointment. Saw this by chance since I was in the area and decided to check it out with some friends. Decor was unique and vibe was good but the staff was rude and made our group feel uncomfortable. I believe they are used to having college kids as their main patrons so they have lost all sense of customer service (note to staff, even if your crowd is younger you should still maintain respect for your customers). Went with a group and and the staff kept watching us, passing by every minute (not to even ask if we needed anything but instead just to keep an eye). Found this very strange and wondered if that's how they usually treat their customers. Really got turned off and didn't want to spend anymore time or even money here. My colleagues bought beer but we eventually left. Much rather spend my money elsewhere. ....Response to owner ...This in no way excuses your aggression towards paying customers and making the entire group uncomfortable. I hope you can reflect on this feedback and treat your future customers better.
I asked the DJ to play abba and he actually stopped the music and yelled at me saying he could play nothing at all if I asked again…very very rude. I’ve also never met a DJ that spends zero effort on transition between songs…listening to pandora with ads would have been better. The man was just scrolling on his phone the entire time.
TLDR: aggressive and instigative manager Want to start by saying the bartenders were great and we had a nice experience with them. The manager, however, ruined our time there. We got there at 10 and had two rounds while waiting an hour among other people for the dance floor to open. This whole time, the four of us in my group stood near a fireplace mantle. Toward the end of that hour, a line started forming for the bathroom next to us, but there was plenty of room. No one had any issues getting by. Then the manager comes up to us and says we need to move, claiming we were causing a bottle neck. I pointed out that there was a full walkway behind my friend for him to get through, but he wouldn't have it. My friends and I go to the dance floor while my boyfriend takes our glasses to the bar. Unprompted, the manager aggressively says to him, "What's wrong with your friends?" My boyfriend is unsure how to respond and just says I don't know, sorry. The manager just repeats himself, getting more aggressive, and when my boyfriend tells him he doesn't need to be mean, he kicks my boyfriend out. My boyfriend is the least likely person to ever get kicked out of anything! The bartenders didn't seem surprised by the manager's behavior since they gave the rest of us free shots when we paid our tab. Thankful to them, but we won't be back.
Staff (bartenders and doorman) were nice but the manager was extremely aggressive. Tried to de-escalate but he kept approaching and attempting to provoke a reaction. Does not seem like a safe place to have fun. Staff seemed to realize he was unreasonably aggressive and tried to calm him down and gave us free shots.
I met my old friends at the bar.I went to the bathroom and when I came back those friends ask me to leave with them and I said "Why" they said we'll tell you outside. The bartender with the trucker cap told those girls to stay away from me because I look different. They defended me saying that they knew me from before.I confronted the bartender and he said you're creepy and this bar isn't for you.He also said that you need to go back to where you came from. I told him don't be racist and that this bar is for everyone. Then he said he will kick me out.My friends stepped in and said they would never go back to this bar again. They told me to report this to the owner.
There was a staff member who was pretty rude. He didn’t look like one of the bartenders but was checking ids and cleaning up bottles from tables White male. We were a party of 5 and instead of addressing the right person whom (outside drink was brought it) he said and singled me out and said don’t bring outside drinks into the bar and I explained to him oh it wasn’t me I’ve been in the bar for over an hour and never left and he rolled his eyes at me said really with an attitude and picked up the root beer and tossed it. I try addressing it with him later on the night but he was giving all this pushback and backpeddling that I should let it go. No apologies, no nothing. I will never step foot again in this bar. Overpriced drinks with stank employees. I don’t pay a lot of money to get shitty service and being accused of something I did NOT do. I even told him to roll the tapes since they have cameras but did he no.
