Opinions de Cafe Amrita New York
Great place to take people for coffee or a casual breakfast/lunch. Visitors always love it. Just steps from 110 subway & Central Park entrance. Also a good bar spot at night. BUT not so great for working because there seems to be only 1 outlet. I recommend the broccoli & cheese quiche!
I pass by this nice little spot on my way home from work every now and then so I decided to stop by and check it out. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is very chill. I think a cafe and bar go great together. I like having coffee on nights when I drink so this spot was perfect for me. I'll try bringing a few friends or coworkers next time I go.
Was my favourite brunch place during my New York summer shenanigans. Tasty coffee great bagels. Not very suitable for working from there, but I believe it's part of the vibe, to unplug.
Favorite place in the neighborhood. Amazing breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Atmosphere is great and Central Park is right across the street.
This place is like eating at home. It doesn't matter if you order a macchiato, a croissant, a muffin or a toasted bagel with bacon and egg: it's going to be tasty! Really nice employees and good prices.
Great neighborhood cafe with the added perk of alcohol. It's spacious yet cozy. The perfect place to get some work done or meet up for wine and a chat with friends. They also serve typical cafe food. Their chicken quesadilla hit the spot.
The best place in New York , Mr Robert is an excellent human being, the aperol spritz is the best , and the hot chocolate is delicious. Thank u 4 everything you did for me Robert, atte laura de Cartagena 😊 !!! Kind regards 😊
Really nice cafe with good food! The staff is so sweet and a clean bathroom.
Been going to this magnificent place for years. Although it’s definitely on the pricey end, the food (specifically the eggs Benedict), does not disappoint. Great and cute interior, and overall chill place. Definitely recommend going here.
My favorite morning coffee stop, outdoor summer cafe, indoor winter night hide-out. All of the staff morning, noon & night are helpful and very friendly. The owner is also great and is often there to meet patrons and be present. Have been living in the neighborhood for 3 years and this is absolutely my go-to-cafe for everything. *Tip: Try 2 pieces of multi-grain toast with butter for a weekday breakfast. Cheap quick meal if you are running late and absolutely delicious!
I really like this place. Food is good, drinks are reasonbly priced and the atmosphere is quite nice as well. But most of all I like the staff. They are so friendly. Everyone is lovely. The cook is nice and Joe is great too, real friendly and helpful.
Great little cafe from opening to close to grab a bite to eat or sit and work. Happy Hour is cool... Sangria is a Must! Outside seating available as well as two TV's to watch World Cup or US Open. The weekends is also a perfect time to grab brunch (the omelette s are amazing as are the sandwiches) before taking a stroll through Central Park!
Great coffee!!! Some of the best coffee I’ve tried in the area. They also serve alcoholic beverages. They have very delicious selections of breakfast items and pastries. Highly recommended I go here at least once a week!
Best PB&J bagel I had this past weekend and I had 4, each from a different location. The price wasn’t too bad either for NYC. Location is cosy and offers lots of seating. Bathroom was clean as well. I appreciated the Motorsport wall decor as well.
The service was always very welcoming with great staff. This isn’t really a tourist trap but more of a locals hangout with a great feel of community about it. The food is excellent and the chief is friendly and dose a wonderful job preparing the food in the corner in full view. Pizzas were definitely our favourite. If you’re in the area then pop in and relax with a coffee or a good selection of beers
Beer, wine, coffee, and cocktails. Abundant seating and warm atmosphere
Been coming here since moving to Harlem! It’s an awesome spot with something to offer for everyone. I see families coming here to grab lunch, students, people coming to unwind after work for happy hour, and people coming to watch sports and hang with friends. The staff have always been super friendly and are always giving off good vibes from behind the counter. They have a solid selection of beers which makes the place extra appealing for me. If you come here to eat, consider my favorite sandwich: The Turkey Brie. It’s super delicious! Would recommend this spot to anyone and will for sure continue to return.
Cozy place for brunch, close to the better part of central park. I ordered a cappuccino and the salmon egg benedict. Both were delicious! The waffles and pancakes smelled divine as well, but haven’t tried them. The service was quick with no fuss. You can sit for hours with just a drink, coffee is cheap. It wasn’t extremely crowded even on a Saturday morning. Cozy place They have bathroom which is useful if you’re planning to come after a walk in the park.
I absolutely LOVED this place! We booked our Airbnb around the corner from this place when we stayed in NYC and we loved being able to stop here for coffee in the morning or in the evening for dinner. Wish we could have stopped here for brunch on the weekend, but we weren't staying during the weekend. The employees were all very friendly and the atmosphere was wonderful.
Best place in tha hood to grab a cup of coffee, tea, hot chocolate...they've got wine, sangria and other beverages of your choosing. It's a great place to hunker down and get some work done (although the wifi could be a bit better) but it's cozy and super friendly and the neighborhood spot. In the summer/spring/fall there's outdoor seating which is GREAT. They've got the sports on the tv's and it's never ever packed so that you can't find a seat. They're super dog friendly outside and it's a popular meet up spot after the weekend morning dog walks on the great hill. Great place to grab snacks/food with friends and sit outside and enjoy the people watching. I love this place.
I was there to meet 2 friends -- one from the neighborhood & one from Buenos Aires whom I was meeting for the first time. We ordered the all meat pizza and it was great! We were celebrating the new book that was hand-delivered from Buenos Aires. Cafe Amrita is a very cool, relaxed atmosphere for meeting, greeting, and eating!
"Amrita Cafe is a gem! Their coffee is exceptional – rich, flavorful, and always perfectly brewed. You can tell they care about quality in every cup. What impressed me even more was their readiness and efficiency. Whether it’s a busy morning rush or a casual afternoon, the staff works like a well-oiled machine to ensure you get your order quickly without compromising on taste. Add to that their warm and welcoming vibe, and this place easily becomes a favorite for coffee lovers. Highly recommend!"
Amrita has been my go-to local spot for years. During the week, I am regularly found there working or holding creative meetings or friendly hangouts, w an iced coffee and a sandwich or crumb cake (don't sleep on the crumb cake!). Weekends have a fantastic brunch with some of my favorite blueberry pancakes around. They also have a full bar with liquor, wine, and beer (including local beers). Ambience is friendly and it's largely populated by non-presumptuous regulars or people visiting from their Central Park excursions in the North Woods. Music is rarely too loud, and is a good balance of everything from classic rock to Motown to r&b depending on the time of day.
Was gonna give 2 stars to be nice but saw the undeserved average rating 😂 bad food, rude service, but my job has no bathroom temporarily so I have to buy something every time I have to use the bathroom. And the prices are terrible for the bad food and rude service. I wouldn’t mind if it weren’t such bad food that I now have to throw out. $5 for a brownie that tastes like it came from a plastic package, just because I have to pee. The tea tastes like a rat fell into the kettle, it’s like $5 or $6 Edit: Changing to two stars because I just got a hot chocolate that was actually very good and the guy who made it was cute Edit edit: I’m not mad anymore. I just avoid certain things I know aren’t very good. The sandwiches are great. The iced tea is very good.
Came here both mornings during my short stay in NYC. Very friendly, attentive staff. Tasty coffee & cozy atmosphere. A lovely landmark of my trip
This place is great, the food is really good and the coffee is delicious. The staff are all friendly too. It’s conveniently right next to the subway station so this has become my go-to for my morning coffee.
Food is great as well as the service and the brownies are very delicious. The owner is such a great guy I would highly recommend!
Best brunch ever. Food was amazing. Def try the blueberry pancakes!!! My god best spot in NY! Let alone the place was great and really good vibes!
Loved the atmosphere. I ordered a chicken quesadilla. A bit pricey, but it was quite tasty. Also it's a bar. I didn't order a drink, but I like the idea that I could if I wanted.
I’ve been a loyal patron of Amrita Cafe for over eight years, and it never disappoints! The atmosphere is consistently pleasant, with a delightful mix of classical music, jazz, and even some modern pop or hip-hop. The staff, especially the cashiers, are always friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home. The culinary highlights are truly remarkable. The chef’s skills shine through in my go-to order: the bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant. It's always delicious! And I can't forget to mention the cappuccino—it's consistently on point and has become a bit of an obsession for me. The fresh cookies are a must-try, with the chocolate chip cookie reigning supreme, closely followed by the oatmeal cookie. Conveniently located on 110th St. by Central Park, Amrita Cafe is perfect whether you're looking to enjoy breakfast or lunch inside or take your drink outside to soak in the park's beauty. It’s truly the perfect little café for the area! Highly recommended!
Truly enjoy every time! Breakfast is filling and tastes great. Love the hot chocolate and enjoy the teas! You can order takeout! The lunch is great, well served and perfectly packed to go! Great place to go study, read, and have a chocolate chip muffin with coffee. There is outside sitting, there is acholic beverages, and fruits. Overall, GREAT place, especially to start your day.
I like this place and have gone off and on for a few years. The Spanish male cashier is mean and argumentative. He cursed when I asked him to correct my order. Others mentioned they get bad vibes from him as well. I’ve seen him serve a few times and picked up that he is unfriendly but didn’t expect him to be non professional. I asked the cleaners next door to reach out to the owner. She told me she had trouble finding his contact as she was trying to call the owner herself after that same cashier scolded her when she approached him about a concern over chairs.
They have quality coffee, can actually drink it without any additions. Good selection of baked goods . The Club sandwich was on point to, wasn’t a fan of the balsamic dressing for the salad but it was on the side (and to be honest I’m overly critical of it as I grew up with a Sicilian grandmother lol)
The place is very mellow and swanky, loved dining there for lunch. However, the woman at the front lacked customer service. I overheard someone tell her she was brought the wrong meal, that she ordered a panini with a side salad. The lady came back with a chicken sandwich on Rye and a side salad. It was like she wasn't listening. Other than that, the ambiance of the cafe was just right!!
I've visited here dozens of times! Like many NYC coffee shops, the food and drink may be a little overpriced but it includes the cost of admission so to speak (since we spend more time in coffee shops than in grab & go places). I recommend the Veggie Delight, Quesadilla, or Sangria. The chicken tacos have crumbly tortillas though. The counter staff is welcoming and enjoys working there. I like coming here to meet a friend one-on-one or to celebrate in groups. If you come here regularly it'll feel like being welcomed home.
I love the atmosphere here. Very cozy with friendly staff. As a chai lover, I'm a bit disappointed - the chai is very milk-heavy so it tastes more of milk than of chai, but other options can be great. A nice spot to talk with some friends or get some work done.
This is a very cute little cafe that has a very cool vibe! There are a few tables for people to sit at but also a little bar area to watch a game and have a beer. I didn't go to try the food but they do have an option to get coffee to-go. My girlfriend and I got a drip coffee and a large latte. The latte was pretty good but the drip was a bit of a disappointment. It wasn't even hot. While the drip coffee was bad I'm certainly going to go back to try the food. From what I saw other patrons eating, it didn't look half bad!
They dont have WiFi!!! Also not many places to plug your computer Food and place it's ok, , but attention lacks of kindness. how Is it that a café does not have WiFi? Weird that many people were with their computers there. (Even myself lol, because i realised they didn't have WiFi after i pay for my order) So sad. They do have WiFi, because there was a network with the coffee name, but it's says to be private. I still can't believe. I never write reviews, and even less a bad review, but this got me. Almost felt like a joke, that there were many people with their computers.
NO OUTLETS!! At least thats what they told me, it looked like a scenic cafe near columbias campus that lots of students frequent with good outdoor seating. But it seems they refuse to provide outlets so that they could a be study hub with their late hours - shame.
This was my first visit here, it's always busy so I assumed it was great! We had waffles and blueberry pancakes with a chai tea and "flat white". The coffee was awful, I had one sip and left it. This is not a place to come for cafe style coffee. The chai was fine because it was just a store bought concentrate mixed with milk, hard to make that bad. The food took about 25 mins and the pancakes were burnt, like black. Unfortunately, we won't be back, there are so many great places to eat or get coffee in the area. The service was average at best.
Edit to say that I’ve stopped visiting Cafe Amrita, sadly, as I’ve met many locals there that I’ve enjoyed getting to know. I can’t justify spending money at a place where I’ve received so much attitude for no reason, and I’m also tired of the service being slow. Not on every visit, but enough that I’ve decided to take my money elsewhere. I will miss the tacos though. Original post: Cafe with espresso drinks during the day which evolves into a lively bar at night. They turn off the espresso machine around 4 or 5, so if you’re looking to study or work after 5 pm, you might want to go elsewhere.
Not sure what all the hype was about, or why people flock to this establishment, but the food was good (not excellent or amazing) for a pricey meal. OJ was freshly squeezed, and waffle with berries was good, but overpriced. It is a semi self-serve place, as you order and take a number and then get your food sent to your table. Not worth the wait or the money.
Mocha was good but it was at the bottom of the cup! Meal was basic and the check out person was not very friendly, we had to pick up part of our bagel and egg meal at the counter, man looked like he didn't want to work on this day. Wanted a quick, relaxing meal with my daughters it was just average. Bench indoors could use a little updating, scratched my legs.
This place has a laid-back spacious atmosphere, with pleasantly dim lighting, and nice music. It’s casual, where you order at the register, and it seems like a good go-to spot for locals. While the coffee was fine, and there is a full bar as well, the food menu is a celebration of meat and dairy, as if food options without those 2 ingredients don’t exist. There is a veggie sandwich you can get without cheese, which I got, but I found it utterly uninspired. Not bad, but just bland and boring. So, in short, great place to grab a coffee or a drink (and they do have nondairy milk for coffee), but at least for someone like me, it wouldn’t be more than that.
The food was great, the chef was very kind & accommodating. But, the lady operating the cash register was very rude & unfriendly. The rest of the staff make up for her poor attitude.
I've heard of this place for lunch, unfortunately all I did was to have a coffee and brownie and were very yummy. Def will liek to come back and give a try to the food. The only thing is that when I was there, most tables and chairs had food crumbs. The staff saw me cleaning and changing tables and didn't bother to come clean. Other than that it was ok. A 3 overall start rating beacuse I did not have a full experience. Once I get ill adjust accordingly.
I came here bc of a review saying its a good study spot. It is not. There’s no wifi and no place to plug any devices in. Additionally, I always order a coffee or something when I study at cafes. My latte was okay. The issue was the simple sugar syrup. The syrup was by customer use, meaning that it was in a corner and you approach and add how much u want. Inside the bottle there was mold (the black spec) growing on the walls of the bottle. So all of this combined, I will not be returning. Literally ran to the starbucks up the block because I had an online class.
The coffee and food are really not great. The prices have nearly doubled over the last years and there had been no update: the interior is old and outdated. Staff not super friendly
The coffee is good. European style setting. The music is loud, there is no wifi, so it's not really a place where you can relax or work.
I found this place a while ago to have a bite after central park during winter. The first time I came in had the pesto mozzarella sandwhich and it was ok. I liked that the place was a cafe where people took computers and worked. Came for a second time to continue writing something I was working on. I had the turkey brie sandwhich, it was too big and uncomfortable to eat, I had to rearrange the sandwhich and pick the meat so it would fit my mouth. It was also not so tasty. When I asked for the wifi password since there's various wifi signals with the cafe name I was told they don't have public wifi. I'm still wondering if I was lied to. Overpriced, average food and not customer friendly. Pretty disappointed.
When I first walked in I greeted one of the servers who did not respond, looked back at me, and kept walking (should've left right then). I decided to stay as I didn't want one person to ruin my experience but all around the customer service was DISGUSTING. Woman behind the register acted as if I was inconveniencing her! The only nice person was the older man who served us or meal. Only reason I am giving two stars is because the food and mimosa was actually really good. Have been looking forward to trying this place and was truly disappointed by the service, will NOT be returning.
Nice staff, good ambiance. Terrible coffee and chai - both were way too sweet (even the plain latte!). Uses very low quality, watery oat and soy milk. Wouldn't recommend to anyone if your only interest is coffee.
Over the years I’ve visited Cafe Amrita a few times, and while the coffee and atmosphere are good, the customer service can be disappointing. So I stopped going, but randomly this morning I gave it another shot hoping things changed. And to my disappointment, it hadn’t. One of the cashiers is consistently rude, cold, and curt, making the experience unpleasant. A warm and welcoming attitude goes a long way in the service industry, and unfortunately, that’s lacking here. Hoping management can address this and improve the overall customer experience. This cashier is turning away business.
Server brought menu to others AT the table while insisting I come up to the counter for the menu and stand there to order; perhaps they were regulars. Ask for my oatmilk latte to be served in a ceramic cup since I was sitting at a table and staying to eat, got a paper cup instead and when I ask for ceramic was told I get more in a paper cup. Even after an 18% tip, I can't get the ceramic cup which cools faster and doesn't come with the papercup/waxy smell and taste. There was no offer to warm my scone which DID come on a ceramic small plate!
I often get my bike repaired next door at Larry's Freewheeling. Always see a crowd in this cafe, and finally check it out after a decade. It was my first AND last time. Service was mid; took a long time with zero sense of urgency. The coffee tastes burnt and bitter - I didn't finish the iced latte. The bagel was incredibly sad for an NYC bagel, and lacked an NYC amount of schmear. I'm glad I tried it! I just won't be going back. If you're looking for coffee nearby - highly recommendimg Superhet Coffee!!
I like this place itself and that general vibe there. However. The lady who works the cash register seems to have a dislike for me in particular for some reason. (She's noticeavly warm and friendly with the other patrons) I'm always polite and patient, though she takes a long time to acknowledge me when I approach to place an order, when she is clearly not busy. Today, they got my breakfast sandwich order wrong. I ordered an egg sandwish with bacon and cheese: I just got egg and bread. I can't go back to return it because I have to wait in my car for alternate side parking. Repeating an order back to a customer, would be something that makes a difference. I won't say don't go there; I will recommend confirming your order.
My friends and I went here to grab a quick snack and drinks. I noticed that the man who took our order and was also the cashier (possibly the owner?) allowed my friend who appears white to buy a drink without food. When I (a black person) ordered my drink, he insisted that I should buy food. Note: we were standing in a line and it was not immediately obvious that we were part of the same party. I must have had a confused look on my face because it was so obvious how differently my friend was treated compared to me. In response to my confusion, the owner (?), rudely asked me if I was new to the area and asked if I have ever ordered a drink in NYC. Once I confirmed that the person who took my order and the person who took my friend's order was the same man, my friends and I pointed out that I was treated differently. He responded defensively and deflected. He never directly responded to our observation that I was treated differently than other customers. At one point he even "if you want an apology, fine I'll give you an apology, sorry." I'm disappointed in his response and I hope he and other employees of this establishment treat other black and brown customers better in the future. I want to be supportive of small restaurants but I also I don't like pay to be treated badly. This experience would have been so different if he acknowledged what happened and apologized. We all make mistakes. But instead he got defensive and acted as if the word "sorry" was a favor.
Trash service - for a place that’s near a major university, the barista took the time to come around the bar and say that no computers were allowed on weekends. If they don’t want business or discriminate against students, they can say so. Coffee was terrible too. Plenty of places in New York to get decent coffee, and this is not one of them.
Now, I was participating in the AIDS WALK this year, I clearly was not a customer. I took a chance and tried to use their restroom. There were a few people in the line before me and I tried my best to stay out of the way. The man working with the red shirt running around this place thought it would be a good idea to physically try and move me, pushing me out of the way. Not only did he do this once, putting his hands on me, but twice he decided to physically move me. All after I originally apologized for being in the way, trying to move myself. This place looked nice and had a good vibe about it until that instance. I even considered asking my friends to go there, until this situation. I guess money does really buy manners. Shame.
Upon arrival the French Toast was burnt on both sides receiving a very bad presentation. The bread tasted like watered down cornbread. Very bland. The service was just very disappointing. I had barely touched the toast and asked could It be traded for a waffle (of equal price). The owner told me she would not do it because it was nothing wrong with it. She then gave me a togo box because I “could give it to the homeless” .Overall a very bad experience I would not recommend.
If I could give zero I would. Extremely rude, kicked me out because I was reading while drinking my to stay coffee and other people wanted to have food. Over priced, you have to wait 5 minutes at least because their drinks are insanely hot. Food is below-average and drinks are bad. The only good thing is its location since there isn’t another cafe close.
Saw this online because of the Belgian waffles… upon arrival the lady at the counter just had this attitude… like we were bothering her for placing an order? Not to mention they were out of the soup of the day and they were out of waffles… I settled for a caprese salad… it’s a salad it’s supposed to come with some lettuce. I waited 30 minutes for them to bring me a few pieces of cheese with some tomatoes and what looks like somebody’s son puked all over it in pesto…. I told them this isn’t what I ordered at all and why did it even take that long. They said they went and got fresh basil which was honestly just a lie in my face. Not to mention our table was never washed, I had it wiped down myself. The place looks dirty like they’ve never cleaned it. My main issue is the lady at the counter. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone I won’t be going back. Not to mention the potatoe chips I had were soaked in oil they were DAMP. Just ew. Overpriced.. horrible service.
Warning: if you are hungry you will have to wait 30 minutes to get a sandwich. (When we checked on our order with the woman at the counter, she said the cook was “working on it” without actually checking with him. Turns out the cook missed our order. He was very kind and apologized when we went directly to him.)
I stop this morning for a coffee with my uncle who is in old age. After we ordered the payment was not processed (by the lady who was serving) three times because she wanted a tip. I asked if it’s mandatory and she said no. After the payment go through she started talking and saying that i am a bad person because i am not letting a tip. I will never go in this place again. The staff and service sucks!
Bad coffees and teas. The iced tea was bitter. Also the manager gives weird looks. I also found it dumb that I couldn’t bring my own snacks in while I did work or study even though I bought a drink from them
I was at this AM at Amrita (May 13th) but the cafe was still closed for service. Went to a deli nearby and ordered a coffee and returned to sit on their outside chairs for a few moments with my friend visiting NY for the first time when the attendant/server came over to us, before openning the cafe and told us that these chairs were property of the cafe and we should move away. I live in the neighborhood. Amrita parks their chairs in OUR public street, no sign telling us anything about not using them and demands us to move away because we are sipping a coffee in their tables. They are not good neighbors. I will enquire if they have a permit to use our PUBLIC STREET for their business.
Hello, I've been meaning to visit this cafe for sometime now, however, I was a bit disappointed during my first visit with my mom when ordering on Monday, August 16th. The gentleman taking orders was not attentive and a bit nonchalant for some reason. I thought it may have been due to it being a bit busy but that was not the case. We did enjoy our delicious tea and danish but unfortunately don't think I would return. I'm guessing he may have had something on his mind?
I am not one to complain and this is my first review ever but i can’t help but feel so un welcomed in this cafe. The woman serving me wasn’t very nice at all. I said please and thank you as I always do and nothing from her. She was cold and made me feel like I was annoying her. This isn’t the first time I’ve experienced this from her. I’ve been to the cafe a handful of times and she has an attitude every time. They are lucky that they’re the only cafe around and that’s why I tolerated her but I’ve had enough and will never go back!
The lady at the counter aggressively tried to force me into tipping, even though she was providing no service at all. She also tried to CHARGE ME TWICE. Luckily, the security systems of my bank sensed the fraud and refused to process the second payment. Otherwise I would have paid 40 Dollars for an average tasting sandwich and a coffee. The place looks nice but the lady is a no-go! I hope the owner takes action before she ruins the business.
Would not recommend, if I could give negative star review I would. The food and coffee and overpriced and not good. The cashier is extremely rude, the “barista” does not know how to make a drink or sanitation. He cleaned the counter with the same rag he used for coffee. I would recommend avoiding this place.
I've never had a worse customer experience than here. The cashier was incredibly rude, with a sour expression the entire time. She didn’t greet me, kept interrupting me while I was placing my order, and didn’t want to answer any of my questions. After placing my $60 order, when I was about to pay, she rudely told me I MUST tip if I was dining in. Huh? I’ve never heard of such a thing. Let me sit down, enjoy my meal, and I’ll leave you a cash tip for your service. Her behavior was unacceptable. I asked for my money back and left. I will never return to this place or recommend it to anyone. Forcing customers to tip before they’ve even sat down and demand tips when you barely doing your job is just not acceptable.
I had an extremely disappointing experience at this café, largely due to the demeanor of the owner, Amrita. As a customer, I expected at least a basic level of courtesy and professionalism, but was met instead with dismissiveness and an astonishing lack of awareness about her own menu and pricing. When asked simple questions, she appeared confused and unprepared. The café itself was poorly maintained, lacking the cleanliness and ambiance one would hope for in a hospitality setting. Moreover, Amrita’s presentation and behavior were strikingly unprofessional for someone running a customer-facing establishment. Her approach to guests was curt and borderline rude, which made for an uncomfortable environment. This is not the kind of place I would recommend to anyone seeking a warm, welcoming, or competent café experience. One star is more than generous.
If I could give zero, I would. My heartfelt suggestion: don't go. I love the place but the manager and the people working there are the worst ever. I hope it will change personnel, so I can go back. They have no clue how to deal with people.
Absolute rudest staff ever. I don’t think I’ve ever left a review for a restaurant before, but my experience at Cafe Amarita made me leave my first review. General terrible attitude, and incredibly impatient. Save your time, protect your peace, and go somewhere else. Hope this helps.
Used to be well liked before covid with quiche and other hot plates at reasonable prices. Now the breakfast options are limited to a few bagels and pastries on weekdays or an expensive brunch on weekends that is so crowded you can forget about finding a place to sit. The barista is clueless with no idea what the muffins or scones contain. Prices are up 50% in five years (yes I keep records of every place I eat in). There are much better options for breakfast on Columbus or Amsterdam.
The woman with dark hair in the counter is rude and kind of a scammer forcing people to tip (and overtip). The coffee is good, the bagel was so oily. The place is nice and has good music but certainly not worthy, avoid the visit. I wish I had read the other reviews about her... this place had great reviews until everyone starts to talk about that woman. Is the owner aware of how she is damaging their business?
Came here thinking I could do work since there was a ton of open seats and every “cafe” I’ve been to allows people to have laptops. They don’t have their menu or prices easily accessible online so I ended up paying $20 for a house salad. I finally sat down just for them to tell me that they don’t allow laptops or studying on “brunch weekends”. The lady who told me was really rude and no where was this policy online, otherwise I wouldn’t have come. Definitely didn’t think the food was worth the price and the experience I had with that woman left a bad taste in my mouth. I don’t plan on coming back and don’t recommend it here.
If I could give this cafe negative stars, I would. I came across this space due to it being open later than other cafes & fairly reasonable prices. Size is quite large & seemingly a good place to do some reading & writing. The first time was fine, just grabbed a tea. Second time grabbed a cookie. Today, I just attempted to complete a 3rd visit only for the rude man behind the register to come to my table asking if "I wanted anything & I hadn't bought anything". This only after 2 minutes of me sitting down, attempting to wait out the crowd formed at the register. I then told him that I will come up only for him to rudely spat, "You only bought a cookie last time". I've never experienced anything like this. Beyond the fact that I'm being surveilled & pressured to buy things I do not want, the service is not great, cleanliness is not of standard & staff is not welcoming. A woman sitting next to me also witnessed what occurred and was very disturbed by that behavior. We both cut our visits short. No customer should ever have to deal with hostile environments created by business owners. This is a terribly ran business.
Very rude barista. He was rude from the start when I was placing an order. I came to enjoy a coffee, and work a bit while I wait for my husband. Horrible experience.
I just went there today to see if things have changed since I used to go years ago when I lived around there. Unfortunately the Indian lady still is nasty like how can someone still be this nasty and rude 10 years later?!?? I’m convinced she’s borderline or something because it’s more than just her having a bad day. The Mexican lady who is sometimes in the cashier is super nice and I wish she was permanently there! Btw I complained about the Indian cashier years ago the owner justifies her behavior hence why she is still there.
I walked in with my dog in my backpack with only his head popping out, there was a large husky dog in the restaurant so i figured he’d be fine and no one said anything otherwise so I ordered a drink. The waitress then proceeded to make my drink and when eventually i was called to get my drink she THEN informs me no dogs were allowed. when i pointed out there was already a dog in the establishment she told me it was a “service animal” however the dog was walking all around the bar without any insignia indicating it was a service animal. She ruined my comfortability here and didnt make me feel welcome at there place. Not a good way to make people feel welcome at your establishment.
