My boyfriend and I went for Valentine’s Day. It was so wonderful. The prix fixe meal was delicious. The mushroom risotto was the best risotto I’ve ever had in my life! And the desserts were so artfully displayed. Every bite was amazing. Service was impeccable, with strong attention to detail. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. Highly recommend.

We tried the restaurant week 3 course lunch. The food tasted great, well seasoned and balanced. I loved every bite. I felt underfed at the eof my meal, whereas my two friends felt very full. I assume it’s bcz one of them got risotto and the other a chicken dish while I got the fish which was a thin slice and light to eat. Again during dessert I liked my dessert the best over the other two we ordered at the table to taste all three dessert options. the bread was too cold for me to enjoy and we didn’t get any butter at our table! But overall the visit was pleasant with nice tasting dishes.

Exceptional service & unforgettable wine pairing We had such a beautiful evening at Café Boulud. The food was refined, perfectly executed, and felt both classic and exciting. But what truly made the night special was our server, Simone. Simone was absolutely outstanding!!!! warm, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. His wine pairing recommendations were spot on. Every selection complemented the dishes perfectly and elevated the entire meal. You can tell he genuinely understands wine and cares about the experience he creates for his guests. At the end of the evening, he even gave us a tour of the space, which was such a thoughtful and memorable touch. That level of hospitality is rare. If you’re dining here, ask for Simone, he is truly one of the best servers we’ve ever had.

This was our first visit to this high-end French cuisine restaurant on the Upper East Side and it happened to be during Restaurant Week, so we went for the special 3 course prix fixe menu. We were not disappointed - all: the settings, the food, the presentation were impeccable. I also overheard the host speaking fluent French with some patrons, which I thought was a nice touch of authenticity.

After visiting Maison BARNES, I had been looking forward to finally experiencing lunch at Café Boulud… and it did not disappoint. Lunch at Café Boulud felt like one of those meals you quietly dream about, refined, unhurried, and beautifully composed. We started with the salade d’Hiver, crisp and refreshing, finished with a creamy dressing that stayed light. And coming from someone who spends a lot of time making beautiful, colorful salads, I can confidently say… this one was both elegant and delicious. The Coq au Vin was cooked perfectly, rich and comforting, a reminder that classic technique still matters. The Trout Amandine was delicate and clean, accented with fried and pickled onions for texture and acidity… a perfect finishing touch. Dessert was inevitable. I had the Pain d’épices poire et vanilla, beautiful and delicious. My friend chose the Paris Brest noisette & chocolate and loved it. And then there were the madeleines… truly what dreams are made of. Extra appreciation for our wonderful server, Simone. Having worked in restaurants for 15 years, I know how much thoughtful, professional service elevates a meal, and Simone delivered that effortlessly, with charm. Ending on a high note with a run in with my friend Andrew, who somehow makes Maison BARNES feel even more elegant than it already is. Unfortunately, I’m now home dreaming of those madeleines and wishing I had saved one for later… the kind meant to be enjoyed slowly, perhaps while watching Bridgerton.

I came for Restaurant week. My friend and I loved the food, especially the Coq au vin. But most of all the hospitality and caring attention of the servers and staff was incredible, everyone is very welcoming and kind. Something rare in NYC. Our server very kindly gave us recommendations that were spot on, and was very attentive over all. The only thing is that if you are here for restaurant week you need to look at the times they serve that menu as it is not an all day menu.

Four of us met for brunch on a dark January Saturday. The dining room is welcoming as are the staff. Food was good but not "over the top." Eggs Benedict with Salmon that I ordered was excellent...as was the French Toast ordered by another. The Croque Monsuer that my husband ordered & then, suggested we share was quite dry...uninteresting. The bread offered was quite good. Will definitely re-visit.

My standards for rating: Google/Yelp stars will be purely based on a very general metric of taste and the overall experience. For an in-depth relative review (against my other restaurant experiences), ratings will be broken down into 3 parts: Ambiance, Service, and Food and an overall score at the end. Typically, above a 4.5 is in the two or three Michelin star category and 4.2-4.4 is a Michelin 1 star. Today I am reviewing the Upper East Side's Cafe Boulud which reopened in 2023 after briefly closing in 2021 (1/2026). Ambiance: 4.3/5.0 Cafe Boulud is not your classic intimate fine dining experience. There is chatter but not overwhelming which makes it a great spot to go with friends or a date in the early stages of a relationship. The room is simple but elegant and I have to note the couches are so comfortable. With that being said, the venue won't wow you but it leaves a good impression. Service: 4.7/5.0 Off the bat, I called in to see what the dress code was and couldn't have received a warmer response of "whatever you're comfortable in makes us happy". As soon as I took a seat the server was engaging and attentive, and I noticed he went out of his way to make all of his tables feel welcomed often striking conversation. Some of the best service I've ever had. The pace of the meal was strong in the beginning but the second course did take a bit longer than I would have expected. Food: 3.8/5 Bread service: The bread was a rosemary focaccia that, to be honest, was on the dryer side. The butter helped with the dryness (and tasted amazing), but an underwhelming start. Parisian Steak Tartare: This steak tartare was not what I expected. The taste of pickle was quite strong, and for even as someone who doesn't care for pickles...it works. The meat melts with every bite and make sure you mix that quail egg in!!! Poulet Ah Citron: This "lemon chicken" dish was unfortunately not the best experience. The flavor was there but the chicken was a little dry and the skin had become soggy instead of the light crisp I was expecting. However, the sauce was incredible and the croquette was delicious. I'm not sure if there was a timing issue as the croquette was piping hot while the cook on the chicken was subpar and the sauce initially had congealed. Overall: 4.15 First off, I can't stress enough how good the service was. I would not hesitate at all to visit again knowing that the service will be top notch and the ambiance will be classy with a lively atmosphere. With that being said, the food did fall short on my visit and was not Michelin star level. However, I think the kitchen is capable of more than what I experienced and look forward to visiting again someday.

It’s our third time dining at Café Boulud, and as always, the food was spectacular — beautiful presentation and outstanding flavors throughout. Tonight’s service truly stood out. Guido was exceptional: knowledgeable, polished, and confident, with great recommendations and a deep understanding of every dish. Later, Elizabeth took over and was fantastic as well — seamless, attentive, and equally professional. Together, they made the evening feel effortless and special. A wonderful night as always. Tomorrow is Ted d’Or!

Beautiful AND delicious food, great ambiance and excellent service. This was one of the best dinners my husband and I have ever experienced. We loved portion sizes as well. On top of that, the kitchen was willing and able to speed our service to make sure we make it to the concert we had. We are looking forward to many more amazing meals at this restaurant, highly recommend.

My family and I had an excellent brunch at Café Bouloud. The restaurant provided the type of service that you would expect at a refined restaurant. The food was top notch from beginning to end. We started with viennoisesies basket and the bloody Mary shrimp ceviche. We all agreed that the ceviche was truly outstanding. For the main course, we ordered the croque monsieur, french toast and eggs benedict with smoked salmon. All three were shared and enjoyed. The dining experience was completed with the assortment de cookies and Paris brest noisette et chocolat. We left the restaurant full and happy.

Visit for restaurant menu. It is a great deal. I love the sauce in the salad and fish makes it tasty. Steak with rice blends is very creative! It justifies me having stake with rice at home haha! Old money cocktail is also a good choice;)

Excellent fine cuisine in a pleasant atmosphere and with impeccable service. We were a party of 2 and had the Fluke-Kaki and Homard En Barigoule for appetizers. They were both delicate and delicious. For main, we had the Duo de Boeuf and the Poulet A L’Estragnon. These we’re perfectly cooked, plated elegantly and accompanied with delicious sauce and garnishes. For dessert we shared the Tart Tartin. This is the only dish we wished was more elevated. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our meal very much and will definitely return.

Whenever I visit this restaurant, I truly feel at home. Karim’s professionalism and the dedication of his well-trained, organized team make every experience exceptional. It’s by far the best local restaurant in my neighborhood! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and worth every dollar spent. The ambiance is both amazing and relaxing, creating the perfect atmosphere for any occasion. I always leave feeling happy and satisfied. I highly recommend this place to all my neighbors and anyone looking for an outstanding dining experience. Best Regards, Ana

My wife and I celebrated her birthday yesterday and had a wonderful evening. Elizabeth provided great service, food/drink recommendations, and even offered a tour of the restaurant after our meal. We were very impressed with the private rooms that we plan to return for a larger celebration. After dinner we had a drink at the bar where Andrew and Rosario took good care of us and provided good conversation. The food was rich, delicious, and presented beautifully. Scallops, lobster, duo de boeuf - all delicious. The bread and butter was delicious too.

Everything was on point, food, menu and service was really outstanding. The menu changes from time to time and the chef create specials...When I was there was a Peruvian variation. The flavors, the cocktails and wine selection is excellent. Plus it is rated with 1 Michelin Star. They understand the art of service and experienced gastronomy. Well done! I have the duck as a main dish 😋

Magnificent! The menu features Daniel’s classics as well as his takes on seasonal + Mediterranean flavors. The dining room is intimate, not too stuffy & quite a perfect choice for a girls night out. Our server was so sweet & made us feel extra special. —TARTE CAROTTE VADOUVAN (9.5/10) yummy carrot tarte, slight natural sweetness along with a savory cheese buttery base (great textures) —GAZPACHO DE CONCOMBRE (8.5/10) refreshing chilled cucumber soup thats perfect for summer, wish i could drink this everyday! —BAR EN PAUPIETTE SAUCE MEURETTE (10/10) wow this was the best black bass ive had in my life—suuuper tender & delicate fish with the thinnest crispiest potato wrapped around it like a treasure. the red wine sauce was also a star. —CANARD AUX MONTMORENCY (9/10) beautiful duck presentation & simply delicious

I thought I was just going out for dinner. Instead, I stumbled into a culinary Broadway show, and Gaveric was the star of the production. 🥖 Act I: Bread & Butter, a Power Couple Maison Barnes bread basket + that golden quenelle of butter. I tried to pace myself but failed. If this is how La Tradition starts, I’m fine with carbs being my destiny. 🥒 Act II: Gazpacho de Concombre A chilled cucumber soup that looks innocent until you taste it. Cool, nutty, fresh — basically what air-conditioning wishes it could be in August. 🐟 Act III: Arctic Char That roll I photographed wasn’t a spring roll — it was the Arctic Char wrapped crisp like a Michelin-star burrito. Served with cabbage, potato purée, and sauce meunière. Somewhere in heaven, Escoffier is slow-clapping. 🐚 Act IV: Saint-Jacques Seared scallops, citrus, capers, fennel. They glistened like they’d been coached by a food stylist with a PhD in seduction. 🥩 Act V: Duo de Bœuf Short rib and New York strip — cooked so perfectly pink it deserved its own Instagram filter. Paired with fava beans, pommes Anna, and a sauce so rich I briefly worried about insider trading charges. 🍫 Finale: Moelleux au Chocolat The molten chocolate cake under a pistachio lattice with ice cream on top. Honestly, it looked like an edible art installation from MoMA, but tasted like pure childhood joy dressed up in black tie. ⸻ Curtain Call Café Boulud was incredible. The food was flawless, but Gaveric? He made it feel like I’d booked front row seats to the hottest show in town. Timing, charm, precision — he didn’t just serve dinner, he directed an experience. If restaurants were Broadway, Café Boulud with Gaveric is Hamilton. Standing ovation.

As someone who enjoys food content (cooking shows, The Bear, etc.) But never actually expirenced Fine Dining I was nervous to visit a starred restaurant afraid it wouldn't live up to expectations but Café Boulud definitely lived up to expectations. The food and the service was absolutely incredible. It was a really special and memorable experience from the moment we walked in the door. The Hostess was so friendly and engaging. It was so nice to speak with and engage with the Sommelier who was so nice and able to make the wine list accessible for us who are new to wine. And the food was fantastic too. From the Perfect bite Amouse bouche to the Scallop Dish and the Hanger Steak. Everything was delicious and exciting.

Quite a delight! Expected a stuffy experience but blown away. Enter an exquisite oasis worthy of carrying the famed Boulud name. Very accommodating and attentive staff. Gaverick was a star of a waiter. Enjoyed every minute and flavors. Would love to revisit soon.

Café Boulud is a beloved and elegant French restaurant helmed by the renowned chef Daniel Boulud. The ambiance is refined yet welcoming, capturing the essence of classic French dining. The menu changes seasonally, and every dish I’ve tried has been exceptional. The steak prepared two ways stands out as one of the most memorable dishes I’ve ever had, and the lobster ravioli is a true highlight—expertly crafted and full of depth and flavor. For dessert, the chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet is a perfect finale, offering a beautifully balanced finish to the meal. This Michelin-starred establishment is absolutely worth a visit.

Spent Christmas Eve here, I think the food options aren’t as unique as I’d like but still solid options. The scallop was overcooked and tasted a tad bitter, beef Wellington was amazing.

I am giving this a four because the crust of my sea bass was mushy and the crispness is a feature of this signature dish. I wasn’t sure when I was dining so I didn’t say anything but I was thinking that was the case. I looked it up later. The restaurant wasn’t noisy but I still had trouble hearing the descriptions of the dishes when they were presented. I guess I should’ve asked them to speak louder. The bread was crunchy and delicious and there are these little seeds you can stick on with butter. The foie gras was exceptional and a generous piece. I didn’t love the dessert selections and wish I had ordered something else. However, I bet chocoholics go cray cray for the molten chocolate cake. The portions aren’t huge but filling. If you want huge portions there are many other restaurants that will over feed you. The cafe is expensive but sometimes you have to splurge for a top restaurant experience. I was a solo diner and so basically I was taking up a table for two and I appreciated that they served me respectfully anyway.

I tried Hanger Steak with Salad Nicosia.. steak was medium rare and very juicy. Salad nicosia had anchovies from spain and was chrisp and tasty. Overall, the food was more than enough and service was amazing. Was greeted well at the counter and was not made to wait.

We opted for restaurant week at the bar. Drinks were smooth and top notch. The bread was excellent. The buratta salad was solid and definitely delicious, as was the hanger steak. I have nothing bad to say, however, I gave it 4 stars because while the food was good it didn't feel exceptional or at the level I've come to expect at renowned restaurants. That said, the lime and coconut mousse dessert and chocolate tart packed a punch with those big, bold flavors I was expecting. Dessert stole the show!

David N

Great take on french cuisine, hanger steak was cooked very well, lobster ravioli missed the mark due to flavors overpowering the lobster. Mussels and clams appetizer felt basic, similiar to oysters rockefeller. The server assigned was condescending at best, all other staff were friendly and courteous.

I visited Café Boulud today for my birthday. The service was very attentive and professional. The staff checked in often and made the experience feel special. For appetizers, I ordered the scallop, but it was unfortunately very salty. The blood orange and the purée underneath helped balance the flavor a bit, but I still needed to eat it with the bread to mellow the saltiness. My main dish was the black cod wrapped in “crispy” potato. I had high expectations since it’s their signature dish, but the potato wasn’t crispy at all. The sauce and the leek were well balanced, which I appreciated, but overall the dish was a bit disappointing. Dessert was the highlight: the apple tart was very good, not too sweet, and had a nicely balanced crust. Overall, a mixed experience.
