DA BEST Mexican in NYC!!!! As soon as I walked by, I knew this is gonna be the one… clean, stylish, homey atmosphere was so welcoming… of course it’s a Puebula restaurant!!! I knew food is gonna be good, but it was MORE than we expected… we are obsessed with vegetarian nachos & tamale with verde salsa & eggs on top… we are very picky Mexican food snob, so a lot of time we get disappointed in NYC… this is the GEM 💎💫🙏 The sweetest manger, Jay, native Pueblan is always welcome us:) Ohhhh Peruvian food is also fantastic!! But you need to go early before sold out!
I would come back here any day I'm in this area of Manhattan!! Incredibly friendly staff, the food is incredible as well. not over salted at all but still somehow retains very strong savory notes. I tried chips and guacamole, saw the best guacamole I've ever had, then I had half of their signature burritos which was amazing and I also had their beans and a tamale. Everything was somehow great, I most definitely will be back!! I couldn't believe the pricing was so affordable for such quality! And, always have to mention, cleanliness - it was very clean pristine.
A small, narrow restaurant with 9 tables with a friendly staff. Ordered chicken enchiladas verde. The yellow rice and black beans were tasty but the enchiladas were extremely good with breast meat, lettuce, chives and white cheese and the tastiest tomatillo sauce I have ever had. They have a Happy Hour and wine list.
Good food with great service and at a reasonable price. We went out here for lunch and their service and staff is really good. The staff helped us select the seating and provided a good service. They have plenty of vegetarian options to choose from. We had the vegetable enchiladas and vegetable burrito and it was well cooked and tasted fresh. Their guacamole was very fresh and would highly recommend. If you are looking for quick Mexican food, this is the place to go. Although they have limited seating, they have a good amount of takeouts.
Oh my goodness, I didn’t think a burrito. Old be anything that special, but I got the vegetarian burrito and it was absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely be coming back. And they are very quick with a to-go order. Recommend!!!
Absolutely Amazing Chipotle Chicken Quesadilla I had had in a long time. Amazing, hot, fresh. The hot Guacamole was just right. I will come back again and again. Thank you!!
El Tepeyac is the neighborhood restaurant urbanites dream of - the food is so good and affordable (and authentic, dare I say it), they always have room for us, and no one but also everyone knows about them. My partner orders the homemade chips and guac (I think just salsa is free) and it’s so good I don’t complain about the extra cost. Favorites: lengua tacos, burritos (I have a tradition of breakfast eggs in super campechano on morning metronorth hikes), pozole, blue corn quesadillas, homemade chips and guacamole, homemade salsas
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10 Experience! Fernando’s Mexican restaurant is amazing! The food is incredibly authentic, and you can truly feel Fernando’s passion for cooking in every dish. The staff is kind and welcoming, the restaurant is very clean, and the ambiance with the music is lovely. An all-around fantastic experience — heading back for more tomorrow!
Had the chicken tacos to go after an event at el barrio artspace. Wow. Taste, presentation, speed, everything on point. Will revisit to eat here or take out again. The corn soft tacos smell exactly like the ones in Oaxaca. 🚀
I came a few times at night. Out of the things I ate, I'd say I like the goat soup the best. It is on the saltier side, but I tend to like things saltier anyway. In the beef there were were minimal chewy bits. I like peppers, onions, and beef. It was pretty good. After eating a bunch of things, I finally got to the chorizo quesadilla at the end. So I was full and it got cold by the time I ate it. Can't really say how it was when it was freshly made, but it was okay.
This is our favorite go-to place for weekend brunch and after-work meals. It’s slightly pricier but the food is worth it! Very fresh, cooked only upon ordering, delicious like home-cooked. Everyone there is friendly, service is fast! Atmosphere is super pleasant and relaxed. The table by the window are the best seats for two in all of NYC!
Delicious, hole-in-the-wall type Mexican restaurant on the border of UES and Spanish Harlem. Vegetarian AND vegan items labeled clearly. Good selection of foods. The tamal and burrito were fresh and hot. The guac and chips were also fresh. The salsa that came with the tamal as well as the salsa verde with the burrito were great with just the right amount of spice. Although the restaurant is a bit unassuming, the food it delivers is amazing. Definitely a hidden gem and deserve more attention.
Delicious burritos, the best in Manhattan! They’re loaded, we had campechano (steak + chorizo) and el tepeyac (Al pastor) and both come with guacamole, cheese, lettuce and delicious Spanish rice. The owner, Fernando, is amazing. We asked for a hand sanitizer and he ran out of the restaurant to buy it for us. Insane hospitality! He is also a pleasure to speak with and genuinely cares about his customers. We will be coming back for breakfast burritos :)))
Everything was very delicious. You should not pass up the opportunity to order the birria tacos with consommé, wow they are super delicious. The blue corn quesadilla is not far behind, I need to go back to try the pozoles and the other carne asada quesadilla. For drinks, We ordered Horchata and Tamarindo. The 2 are super good, but my fav is the horchata flavor.
The dishes at El Tepeyac were mostly good. The shrimps in the shrimp tacos were kind of plain though. It’s very nice of our waitress to brought us a complimentary chips and salsa. Their recommended dishes on their menu were delicious. However, it’s a personal preference that I preferred my favorite Mexican restaurants in the Upper West Side.
Stoped here for lunch. The Mexican food was delicious but the American not so much. Buffalo wings were basic frozen wing dings with tons of sauce. It was weird having burritos served with French fries which were also frozen and basic. Menu was confusing yet definitively stick to the authentic items for money worth!
The food here was absolutely delicious, and the customer service in terms of food delivery and attentiveness was top-notch. I really enjoyed the cozy, intimate atmosphere—especially with the door open, allowing a nice breeze to come through. However, my experience was impacted by an individual—possibly homeless or in distress—who repeatedly entered the restaurant (about four times) and aggressively asked myself and other patrons for money. Unfortunately, the staff didn’t immediately address the situation. One server in particular acted as if nothing was happening, even as customers were being visibly harassed. Eventually, a staff member delivering food did step in, escorted the individual out, and spoke to him, which helped. But by then, the repeated interruptions had already taken away from what could have been a perfect experience. That said, I would still return, as the food and vibe were great—I just hope there are clearer protocols in place for situations like this moving forward.
I would have given them 5/5 because the food and service is good. My only suggestion is that during Taco Tuesdays you can’t mix and match the buy 2 get 1 free. They have 3 options which are Grilled Chicken, Pork Carnitas, and Vegetarian. You have to get the same tacos so if you have to order 2 pork carnitas and you’ll get 1 pork carnitas for free. I understand that the promotion is only for the 3 options but they should really be able to mix and match even if it’s only those two options. And maybe still do the promotion and have an additional fee for the higher priced tacos.
Horrible service the first time i went the food was good the second time the food came wrong the flavor wasn’t there and when i called to let them know the wrong item got delivered they hung up the phone on me and wouldn’t answer my calls . It took me 11 calls to get to thru after they intentionally would answer the phone and repeatedly hang up . They than put a manager on the phone and the manager said she would fix the issue sent out a delivery man with a new burrito and asked for the old burrito back, i kindly gave it back to them. It was just tacky, unprofessional and disrespectful.
