I was sad to see Taszo espresso bar close, but this coffee spot by the same owner captures the same eclectic charm. The front room is light and has a bench designated for computer use. The back room is moodier and great for reading or chatting with friends. A lovely local gem in the neighborhood!
I went to hear and photograph several concerts on Friday evenings. Cozy cafe with superb music acts. Recommended.
Solid coffee at affordable prices for NYC, LOTS of seating (rare) and a dedicated space for people working on laptops (feat. Abundant outlets and a printer you can pay to use). Haven’t tried their food or pastries yet, but I really like coming here to do work during the day.
This little coffee shop is so cute! Delicious coffee and even better pastries, baked goods, and sandwiches. Loved the vibes. Coffee shop also has an area designated to laptops, with a printer available
Great eclectic vibe. Really enjoyed the back room with cozy sofas, reading material and a place to lounge.
Excellent Panini’s and drinks. It’s an awesome chill vibe in here. I will definitely be coming back soon. 🥰
great service and atmosphere, good coffee and pastries, cool and spacious back area for chatting (no laptops) and a dedicated work zone in the front (has wifi, outlets), clean bathroom
Good coffee, tasty quiche and cozy place. Mostly crowded but not noisy...
I come here not just for the menu options but to rest and relax in the back area. There’s nothing like it in all the coffee shops in Washington Heights. It’s the perfect spot to sip my vegan latte and reflect on writing and postural alignment strategies. If you haven’t been here yet… it may be about time.
The best oatmilk latte ever! The staff is the nicest, the music is great and the interior eclectic in the best possible sense. Don’t miss this gem!
More vegan offerings, and some mushroom drinks will earn a perfect score. Coffee beans used in espresso are medium roasts and mellow. Oat flat whites are smooth and not as coffee-intensive (full-bodied) as Birch makes (my current favorite). What's really great about Five Flies is the owner, his family and the vibe they created...it's an actual neighborhood hangout. Five Flies supports the community in many ways.
Very great addition to the Washington heights area! I love the energy of the back room and it’s a great place to get some reading done and unwind. My only quarrel is that it took 24 minutes for them to heat up a pre-made ham sandwich when they weren’t very busy with orders (I only know how long it took because I was timing my laundry nearby) so I hope that was a one time occurance lol. But definitely check it out!
Great coffee and love that they have two separate spaces for workers and guests. The back space is such a vibe, I could sit back there and read my book for hours.
Excellent atmosphere and good food and drinks. We ordered the chicken panini, a cold brew coffee, and a latte. All tasted delicious and were served quickly. The place has a cozy backroom, and it was a nice touch that no computer workers are allowed back there. Good WiFi connection with a password that reiterates the place's backroom rule. An oasis in Washington Heights.
Great coffee and an eclectic, aesthetically pleasing back room. As others have said, the back room is a no-computer zone while the front area allows computer work. I do really like this setup, but it might be nice to have some decor in the computer area! (although i kind of wonder if this section is undecorated to discourage computer workers from staying long) I do wish that there was an option for ceramic mugs instead of to-go cups. I don’t know if that is feasible for the volume of people that this place serves, but I always think that drinks taste better out of real cups.
This coffeeshop is a hidden gem, run by the sweetest people! Not only is the coffee delicious, the pastries are also warm and delicious. Not only is the food and drink excellent, the ambiance was also warm and refreshing. The decor gives antique, old school vibes. Excellent place to play board games, catch up with friends, and even date night! 10/10
I must say that this coffee spot was an absolute amazing find. The cold brew coffee was good and the pastries and croissants were so yummy. Atmosphere was very relaxing with the vintage decor and the back quiet lounge was so peaceful. The owner was so sweet and amazing to us.
Absolute hidden gem. This spot has an assortment of baked goods and coffee, and changes day/night. The interior in the back is just wonderful, we could have spent all day there relaxing and enjoying our time playing chess, browsing the magazines, or just talking. If you’re in the area you have to go!!
I needed a coffee shop open later 6 so I googled and happened to find this place. I’m so glad I did! It was really welcoming and a chill vibe. The staff is super chill. The drinks I think are reasonably priced and they taste good. The interior aesthetic is fun. The front half is like an IKEA cafeteria and the back half is like a vintage store, like Mother of Junk in Brooklyn. It’s really interesting and enjoyable. Tho maybe air out the back room a little. It smells a bit musty like a vintage store and I don’t think that’s the goal for a cafe. But maybe, who knows? This will be a go-to spot for me tho.
This is a hidden gem ! Great cafe with a great bohemian style. Coffee is great and the vegetarian sandwitch is amazing .. the bread is artisan! Pear tart was also delicious and portions are generous.❤️ Service is the best in NYC so attentive and friendly staff!! Keep it up!
One of the coolest cafes I've ever been too! The front is great for laptop work, the back is laptop free and filled with so many interesting pieces of art, furniture, and books. Great place to get lost in a book or a conversation on the couch. Their coffee is delicious and picks me up every time! This place is a treasure.
This place has excellent coffee, vibes, and aesthetics. And usually you don't get all of that together, but honestly every cup here is made special - my go to is a cortado - and the barista is talented, coffee extraction is excellent. You have two area with the ask being no laptop zone, and the first part of the coffee shop you can have your laptop. Wifi is available as well, lots of room. The back no laptop area is best place to sit and read a good book!
A new cafe opened in Washington heights is pretty amazing. A good place to relax and chill after a long day at work/school. The cozy environment all around makes it calming for studying. And the back of the cafe is a good place for a hangout with friends with its decorations and it’s peaceful surroundings. Will definitely be coming here again!!
A hidden gem in Washington heights. The shop is bigger than you could think and the backroom is a computer free zone. Staff is friendly and efficient. Large choice of beverage with free refill. It's pleasant to be able to drink a macchiato in a real cup. Decoration is sober but quite nice.
Great spot to get coffee and catch up with a friend. Loved that the back of the shop is a computer free zone, so there’s something for everyone. Appreciated that people were following that rule as well. And the decor back there is so fun and eclectic, with a stunning motorcycle too.

Really cool coffee spot in the neighborhood by a business owner who's been here for a while. The coffee was delicious and the sitting area is really neat. A great place to stop by!

Stopped by here for lunch and had the pesto sandwich with cold brew—delicious! Great little spot with cozy workspace in the back.
Love this place! Great pastries and coffee, and plenty of space to sit. Lots of people working on their laptops on the weekend. The back room, which you can rent out for private events, has a cool speakeasy feel, and they host events and serve alcohol in the evenings. Definitely a great place to check out in the neighborhood!
Hard to find a good coffee in nyc for under $5! Paid $4.89 for a delicious iced latte, good service, calm and spacious atmosphere, fast WiFi, not much else I could ask for!

The owner really spent creating a nice environment! If you walk in all the way inside, it's a super hippy and tasteful area to chat, and the air is perfect for people to work and use computers. The food is great, and it's a very friendly and accommodating place. I love going there! 🥰 💻 🌿 #Environment #Food #People #Workplace #Vibes
Since our first visit to this spot many months ago, we have been going back quite a few times. They have a small seating area up front, "working" area for customers with laptop, and a large room in the back with more seating. They have all sorts of baked goods and some other items such as sandwiches. The offering changes all the time, so that you can get something different each time you visit. They are also vegan friendly, so you can get vegan goods and drinks here. The back room is furnished with old/antique looking chairs and sofas, very cozy. No laptop is allowed in this area. We really love this back room. They used to have a motorcycle in this room, which I thought was super cool, but it has been removed, I assume to make room for weekly events and such. We tried a few different drinks and baked goods over the several visits. Maple Brown Sugar Latte, Bourbon Pecan Maple Latte were our favorites so far. I had them hot and cold. Not too sweet, deep flavor, I loved them. Maple Glazed Cruller is my favorite baked goods so far. Pistachio Croissant is pretty good too. Loads of crushed pistachios on the top! Their quiche is good, but small and pricey. Panouzzo was HUGE and filled with nice amount of tasty ingredients. Vegan Lemon Matcha Bread was a-ok. Very thick and dense, not so moist nor light. The flavor was not great either. Parisian sandwich was basically a ham and cheese in a croissant, and it was just a-ok. Nothing really special. There are some hit and miss when it comes to the food, but the drinks have been great. The staffs are not friendly, unless they know you. They might not be polite, or greet you with a warm smile, but they are efficient. I hope they will get more friendly staff so that we feel more welcomed, but other than that, we love the atmosphere and the coffee, that keep making us go back again and again…
Thank you for the croissant. Thank you for the coffee. Thank you for the kindness. Thank you for letting me use my laptop. Thank you for letting me print. Not thankful for no Wi-Fi.
Wow! What a hidden gem! What an amazing place! This place has been busy from day one! Congratulations guys! An old school 90s coffee house from when before star bucks put all these places out of business. Hope you guys are here forever! Thank you for opening up in our neighborhood!

Last night was my second visit; I didn't know that this is a performance venue, as well, but it makes sense! The decor is v fitting. I only wish the coffee bar itself stayed open longer; when I arrived, a lot of baked goods were still out, and I would have liked to buy a couple of items (I remember their quiches and pear cake as being delicious), but this was not possible.

Devastatingly, the second time was not as good. Also, they have some very odd rules about laptops I didn’t notice the first time but the place is still nice and fairly large
This is a nice, spacious and quiet place with a good atmosphere. Prices are high and today they had no sugar (brown or white) at all for the drinks; I found this very surprising for a coffee shop. The floor in the back room is unleveled and sort of dangerous. They only have one employee who takes orders, makes the drinks, serves the pastries, and manages the payments, so the service is very slow. The barista was competent and pleasant, but only one person is not enough.
the vibe of the back room is incredible for reading or convos with friends, unfortunately the matcha and the coffee not good, i could not finish my drink
The food looks and tastes really good, the drinks are subpar. I got a cappuccino with oat, an iced latte with oat, and a caramel donut. The atmosphere is lovely, the third “rule” of this establishment is weird and quite petty. The service was good up until the barista slid our drinks over instead of politely handing it to us or placing them on the counter. Had the super hot cappuccino slipped and spilled on me would’ve been “pretty embarrassing for both us and the business” as per this business’ words.
The coffee was great and the service was helpful! However, the food selection was limited and not well-marked. The atmosphere had a charming antique vibe to it, but one thing I was unaware of as a new customer was that people who want to work or study with their laptops are limited to a small and hectic corridor, up to 2 hours max... The written rules for working and studying here feel a bit condescending to customers, which didn’t help my first impression of the shop. Overall, it’s a nice place to have conversations with friends or even activities like reading, but I don’t recommend it for productivity.
Cute cafe, sub-par drinks and food. I ordered a flavored latte and it was extremely sweet, and not very well balanced. I also ordered a panini sandwich and the filling was refrigerator cold. So there’s definitely some room for improvement. But I think most people come here for the atmosphere anyways.

Spacious space inside with interesting design but can get loud. Very limited milk options. Coffee is just ok. A lot of political posters for a coffee shop.
