Food is awesome and the staff is so so so friendly and helpful. Shoutout Jason he was awesome and showed us the ropes
Came in at noon for hotpot, staff were very friendly. Food was very good, the hot pot skewer was delicious. Would definitely come back again if I’m around the area. Highly recommend checking this place out.

Highly recommended.
The collect your empty plates and trash from the table scary fast, crazy good service. Food was good too.
TLDR, THE NUMBER 1 HOTPOT/BBQ IN MANHATTAN Fresh ingredient, welcoming staffs and delicious food. I had the most fantastic experience at Funny BBQ Hotpot and BBQ Foods! This place is a hidden gem for food lovers. The combination of hotpot and BBQ is genius. The quality of the ingredients is top-notch, and the flavors are out of this world. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure you have everything you need. I can't recommend this place enough – it's a must-visit for anyone who enjoys a unique and delicious dining experience. Five stars all the way!
My dance team and I frequent this place (like every single week) and we appreciate their service and welcoming-ness. We usually go with a pretty big group (yesterday was like 16 people?) but they always accommodate. Their food is also very well priced and there is so much variety. Shout out to Jason!
Delicious and fantastic value all you can eat hot pot, super friendly owner and staff!
The service here was great! My friend and I did the skewer AYCE hotpot. Only the meat comes on skewers. Everything else comes regularly so I'm not sure why there's a price difference with the skewers and the regular hotpot. The skewers price is $28.99 and the regular is $36.99 I believe. You can also do two soups and do half and half. My friend and I did half spicy and half herbal soup base but the spicy wasn't too bad!
Good experience, food fresh and delicious. Every service kind and nice.
Place was wonderful, we came in as people that never tried Chinese hot pot or any other type of hotpot and our waiter Jason showed up step by step how to do everything. Food was amazing and we will be coming back again/
I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE! Once you get seated and order the yummy hot pot, you can pick which side you want to be spicy and savory! Then you get walked over where you get to try the BEST crawfish! Then you get your food and it taste wonderful! I got a multitude of things! Corn, crab, etc! If you’re a real daredevil you can try the duck blood and pig brain! ( spoiler : didn’t taste like anything lol ) FREE EVERYTHING! Drinks, ice cream, etc! I love this place and the vibe and people! YUMMY!!!!
Great vibes, yummy food, awesome service. Would totally come back. Price is pretty good too - $34.99/person for hotpot and $39.99/person for BBQ. They have a really nice broth selections for hotpot. I’d recommend the spicy golden lemon pot! The skewers in hotpot were delicious as were the normal hotpot dishes.
This was a pleasant surprise. I was craving dry hot pot at 9pm lol decided to give this one a go. I got the sliced beef dry hot pot. Serving was generous and food was delicious. But the one thing that stood out to me was the service. In NYC, it's very very hard to find a quality of service that makes you want to tip more. This was it. Raymond was awesome! This will be my go to spot hot hotpot! Great food and even greater service. Highly recommended!
This place has my favorite lunch special in Chinatown as well as two of my favorite dishes from the mainland which are rather elusive in this otherwise mostly Cantonese area, 麻辣香鍋 (spicy dry hot pot) and 麻辣燙 (the soupy version). There’s also a ton of other things on the menu (many others get their skewer packages or larger format hotpot) It’s clean and has friendly, attentive service. A true gem.
Funny BBQ 98 is a great place for young people to gather up to enjoy the food and laughter together in town. Their place is spacious can hold groups of 2, 4, or 8. The food is tasty and they prepared and cooked and then sent to you so you don’t have to DIY. They also have cold dishes that you can get them by yourselves. In general, it’s worth to have a try if you like chinese BBQ.
We came here by chance last night and decided to try the hot pot here. It was the best decision we could have made. Kai the manager was more than courteous and polite, advising us the whole time and explaining everything in detail. The food was simply divine and it was the coolest dining experience we have ever had. Thanks again to Kai the manager, without him it would only have been half as good. 🤩
New favorite hot pot in NYC! I’ve been to a lot of hot pots but this one really stood out for its food offerings (lots of interesting broth options, almost anything you can think of including crab, etc.) as well as the service - truly top notch. Great idea to add skewers and appetizers to the AYCE deal as well as 2-for-1 beers. 100% be back.
Funny bbq is one of my favorite spots in Chinatown for late night cravings! The bbq skewers here are so good and staff is extremely friendly. They have so much for the all you can eat price and drinks, appetizers, hotpot, grilled fish. They are doing a promotion currently so don’t miss out!
Great service, great staff! It was our first time and everyone was great with helping us pick items on the menu, create seasonings for the broth, and time the cooking. It was really great
Nice spot in China Town. We enjoyed hot spot. Jason was a fantastic host. Food was delicious. Mini buns were a great way to end the meal
Got the AYCE bbq skewers, everything tasted great. I really like the seasoning on the crawfish and the skewers. The tin pans were great too. Service was fast and attentive, and included unlimited soft drinks. Plus beer was bogo. Got to try ice rice for the first time. Quite the unique experience!
1. Great food, can ask for modifications, from warming mala tang to bbq skewers to sauerkraut fish. went there many times in cold weather 2. Great service, extremely nice customer service very attentive. 3. Great option for big groups or even singular meals, their combos are amazing offering an entree, 10 skewers of your choosing, and even a drink. 4. Their main focus isn’t on dessert, and I’ve yet to tried theirs but i can tell you for sure their drink is great, whether taro or pineapple, it’s a great tasty drink to cool u down from the spiciness 5. Price is great, i wish i’d have taken picture of the menu for whoever is reading this, but for individual meals, even just the beef noodles soup is only 12$, the combos are extremely good value usually less than 20$ for big bowl of noodles (you have different options as well) with lots of topping, 10 skewers, and a drink 6. service is fast, practically no wait before getting seated
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! great selection of hotpot ingredients, and they literally have 小龙虾🦞 as their starters?? the service was INCREDIBLE TOOOO the aunties and a young man were so service-oriented -- placed our coats in a big plastic bag so that the hotpot smell would not get to it + overall super smiley :) THUMBS UP!!!
Went here with my wife and friend in Tuesday evening. Only had the hot pot but it was a great experience. The staff is friendly and quick to refill you’re orders. Definitely do the All You Can Eat menu!! This is by far much more fun and adventurous than a la crate. We split our hot pot in two: one side spicy and the other side regular. Go make your own dipping sauces and your off to a fantastic meal and stuffing yourselves!!!
We came to Chinatown looking for a hotpot place, and we’re so happy we found this one! When the food platters were brought out, we were delighted to see that everything was fresh, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. The mushroom soup was delicious and drinkable, as it’s made from scratch. We also tried the soda and cucumber juice—both were very refreshing. Ice cream and the bbq lamb skewers are my son's favorite! The staff were friendly and made us feel welcomed. One small suggestion, based on other hotpot places we've visited: it would be helpful to offer some recommended sauce combinations for guests who may not know what to mix. It could guide people on how to create their own perfect dipping sauce.
The taste combinations here work in perfect harmony. All parts of my visit were positive. Without hesitation, top-quality food. I've eaten everywhere and these employees provide the best service. There's no doubt I'll be back soon.
I went here for the first time and really enjoyed the skewer & hotpot combination! Their menu has a variety of skewers and things to order for hotpot. My only gripe was that some food items for the hotpot we ordered never arrived, but as most AYCE hotpot places do, they don't bring you everything you ask for to mitigate the chance of waste. It's a bit annoying, but also understandable.
This place is such a fun dining experience great to go with friends or on a date. It’s super interactive. You have hot pot unlimited barbecue. All you can eat for an unbeatable price. everyone is so friendly and the atmosphere is so fun so easy to make friends. I tried things. I’ve never tried before in my life like pig brain. and you can do karaoke downstairs I’m totally obsessed with this place. It’s a must stop in New York City.
Great value and the ingredients all tasted good in my soup. From the broth, down to the sweet taste of Napa cabbage, and the lotus roots. And so many skewers that came with it. They even have vegetarian skewer options. The short rib skewers were a little on the tough side. And the mild was a bit more spicy than mild, especially from the peppercorns. They were nice to accommodate us sitting in a less lighted table. Grateful.
this is my favorite restaurant in the continental united states possible because of the $25 SPICY DRY POT COMBO it comes with rice, a drink, a really nicely spiced dish with wood ear, chinese cabbage, fried tofu, rice cake....everything AND 10 SKEWERS FOR FREE the best skewers ever, rustic pork, pork with enoki, squid, excellent beef. the tomato and egg soup is my favorite the pork steamed dumplings are delightfully sweet with chinese five spice MY FAVORITE SPOT
My brother and his friends and I had lunch at this restaurant. We ordered fish, some barbecue, and hotpot. The fish was delicious, and the beef skewer was incredibly amazing. The hotpot was just okay, but I highly recommend the barbecue. We definitely went back and will definitely go again. Oh, and don’t forget to grab a free soft drink from the back refrigerator! We didn’t even know about it until almost the end of our meal.
Don't be intimidated by the buffet price of $45.99—they offer a wide variety of options. We went in to check it out but weren’t in the mood for the buffet because we had plan for the evening. They also offer other dishes at much lower prices. It turned out the portions were very generous, and we were satisfied with our light brunch. I'm glad I found authentic Chuan cuisine in Manhattan's Chinatown. I will definitely try the buffet one day.
This was a minutes walk from the hotel and we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient. We had all you can eat BBQ. The food came out quickly, was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. A lot of variety, $86 total for the two us out the door. Very satisfied.
The service was really good. All the stuffs were nice and friendly. I would give it a 6 start just for the service. The place was clean and organized. Food was great. Personally really liked the pig feet (猪脚) don’t judge it by the name, recommend everyone to give it a try. It was like a little crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. Very flavorful Also recommend the juice and slushy, they’re made with fresh fruits.👍
We got an arrangement of skewers and it was delicious overall. The clams were a bit on the chewy side but the flavor was great. Highly recommend getting the chicken skewers! We’re glad that our server told us to get mild because it was definitely spicier than we expected. Our server was also very attentive and came multiple times to fill our waters (which was highly appreciated given how spicy some of the skewers were for us 😅). 10/10 would recommend/come back!
We went here for the first time and will definitely be back. The atmosphere was amazing, the music was dope. The food was great. We had shrimp fried rice and dumplings. They have a bar, we ordered a bottle of wine. The servers are great too, we asked a lot of questions about the culture and the guy we had seemed genuinely happy to share . It was just an all around great vibe and I highly recommend this establishment.
Amazing Food & Excellent Service! Setup -- found a perfect spot on our first trip to Chinatown. Food -- absolutely fantastic food all the way around and one of the best tasting foods in a our trip to New York which included a lot of eating. The menu is big so we decided to try a few different things. Started with the pork dumplings and a spicy skewer (which seemed to be the most popular item). Both were amazing. Dumplings were fried to perfection and the sauce was a perfect compliment. The skewer was juicy and tasty. Could've definitely eaten a few more of these. Server recommended the hot pot and it was fantastic. Got shrimp and pork. This was a lot of food and every bit melded together for a perfect combination. Didn't have quite as many shrimp, but the were good, but the star of the show was the pork. Tasted so good and cooked in excellent manner. So many vegetables and spices that came together for a truly amazing meal overall. Drinks -- got a Tsingtao and it was a fantastic compliment to the food we had here. Service -- was truly outstanding! Our server was helpful, kind, and walked through the various menu items for us with no issue. We tried not be obvious tourists, but there was no issue whatsoever with the great help we received. Value -- best value we had on the whole trip In terms of food, the quality, and the cost. A mere $38 for all that food with great service; (quite the opposite experience a block away in Little Italy). Overall -- one of the absolute best overall meals we had while in New York!!
Best hotpot in NY! Great quality of food. Ambient environment and all round lovely. The prices are reasonable and the food is excellent quality. The hosts and servers are very attentive and friendly. The service was fast and I did not feel rushed at all. Just be sure to order only the amount you can eat. The menu is alluring but whatever you pick can serve at least two people. I loved the tomato broth!
Great place and great concept. Also great of you love Hello Kitty! The food is delicious. Highly recommended if you are a group of people because this is a very social concept. The staff was really helpful in explaining things and really hospitable. Will definitely come here again.
This hot pot place plus the karaoke downstairs was insane. We honestly did not see it coming that there would be a karaoke spot in the basement of a hot pot restaurant, which was very thoughtful and fun. We ordered the hot pot and enjoyed everything. You can’t really judge the food too harshly since you cook it yourself, but the broth was freshly made, the meat was fresh, and all the sides were fresh as well. Nothing felt low quality. The service was a little slow, but it was Saturday evening and very busy, so that was understandable. Overall, a great experience and definitely worth checking out⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you're looking for a lively spot to enjoy some tasty barbecue with friends, Funny BBQ 98 in Chinatown is definitely worth a visit! My friends and I had the all you can eat option without hotpot. The menu features a wide array of meat and vegetable options, all seasoned to perfection and cooked to juicy perfection right before your eyes. Whether you're a fan of brisket, pork belly, or chicken, there's something on the menu to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. One minor downside is that when we marked for certain items, some of them did not come out at all. I suppose if you order too much at once, they somewhat limit what they serve? But we did finish everything we ordered, so it was a bit disappointing. All in all, if you're looking for a fun and flavorful dining experience in Chinatown, Funny BBQ 98 is definitely worth checking out. So gather up your friends, grab a few drinks and let the good times roll!
The oysters have gone bad. They kept on making excuse but didn’t even try to solve it.
The food was just okay. Portion was big for the mala tang. The skewers were pretty decent size but some even felt a bit cold when arriving. Service was fine, nothing special. The intestine skewer didn't taste clean at all. I will say everything lacked seasoning from the mala tang and skewers. The spice mix was super basic, mostly cumin and some chili powder, and didn't bring out the flavors like other skewer spots I've been to. Didn't even finish our skewers. We went down a few blocks after to get skewers from the street cart. Better flavor, more meat, and juicer. Would not return for skewers at this location.
The service here is just horrible. I took my family there on 9/23 as NYC school was closed for Jewish holidays. As we sat down and server was very impolitely responded to our questions about the promotions they published online (they used to offer discount if customers paying cash) We ended up having to leave and ate a great Japanese buffet right across the street in bother block Pretty sure we would not be patronizing this restaurant
Tried Funny BBQ 98 and honestly didn’t think the AYCE skewers were worth the $41.99. The menu posted outside was outdated, and when the food actually came out, the skewers were pretty small and not hot, some even felt a bit cold. They really tried to upsell us on the AYCE skewers and hot pot combo, but we weren’t interested in that. They did have an all-you-can-drink option too, but of course, alcohol cost extra. Service was okay, nothing special. They brought the food and cleared the table. I will say I enjoyed the pig intestines and pork feet, those had good texture and flavor. But aside from that, everything else lacked seasoning and didn’t taste freshly cooked. The spice mix was super basic, mostly cumin and some chili powder, and didn’t bring out the flavors like other skewer spots I’ve been to. Compared to places in Flushing or even the skewer carts on Grand St, this one didn’t hit the mark. Not really worth the price, and I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back.
Terrible food quality — don’t fall for the buffet option! We had a really disappointing experience here. The buffet and the à la carte options are not the same quality at all, which feels dishonest. The ingredients used for the buffet were clearly much lower quality — especially the crawfish. They were obviously frozen, dry, and dark in color — the meat was tough and flavorless. Honestly, it was just like sucking on sauce. We only came here today because yesterday we had a great experience at another skewer restaurant, where everything was fresh and tasty. It was $1.30 per skewer (or $1 for members), and we paid about $107 for three people — roughly 70+ skewers, and everything was delicious. That made us want to try another place today, but unfortunately we ended up being tricked into choosing the $41/person buffet here. We were so disappointed with the food that we only ate about 30 skewers and told the staff we weren’t happy with the quality. I asked if we could pay per skewer instead, since we didn’t eat much, but they refused. One staff member even suggested we eat more, completely ignoring the issue that the food quality was poor in the first place. To make things worse, he awkwardly asked me for a tip at the end. We ended up paying $139 for three people — for food we could barely eat. I’ve attached photos of both receipts from yesterday’s great experience and today’s disappointing one. You can clearly see the dates and restaurant names. If you’re reading this: Don’t choose the buffet here! Save your money and go somewhere that values customers and serves quality food.
