We loved our dinner at Next Door! Went with one friend and we went through the chef's tasting menu at the sushi counter. Food: Amazing! There were many courses and we were pleased with them all. Seafood quality is very fresh. Service: Great! Everyone was so friendly. Nick was very welcoming and hospitable. Atmosphere: Beautiful restaurant! Can't wait to go back.
This restaurant a hidden gem. The service was exceptional, the food was great and the atmosphere was elegant. From every seat you will have a good view of the restaurant and there is always someone there to attend to tour needs. I had a bit of everything from the menu and I enjoyed every bit of it. My favorites are the steak and the sweat potato chips. They also have a nice drink selection and you can’t go wrong with a classic old fashion which was so smooth on the tongue. Overall I had a great experience and I will definitely be going back!!
10/10 experience! Visited on a Thursday night and was warmly welcomed by Sasha, whose energy set the tone for an amazing evening. We arrived during happy hour and sat at the bar, where Chello and Henny were outstanding. Both super knowledgeable, funny, and full of great recommendations. The Fire Spark “Hibana” cocktail was perfectly balanced. We tried several appetizers: the Seared Wagyu Carpaccio (a must-try), the Chu-toro tartare with miso buns, and the Kumamoto oysters — all incredibly fresh and flavorful, even for someone who doesn’t usually love raw dishes. Dinner was just as impressive. Michael guided us through the menu like a pro. We shared the Organic Chicken, Koji-marinated Rib Eye, and the Whole Branzino( which was my personal favorite). The standout side dish was the Baked Japanese Sweet Potato mixed tableside by Milagros… I’m still thinking about it! With an additional Lychee Martini - was definitely the icing on the cake! Dessert was fantastic too — the Chocolate Sensation (recommended to us as a Ferrero Rocher vibe by Milagros, and honestly it was even better), Strawberry Cheesecake, and Mochi & Fruit were beautifully presented. Managers Chris and Joe both came by to introduce themselves and check in, which made the experience feel so personal. The service, atmosphere, and food were all exceptional. Highly recommend!
From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with a smile and treated like a VIP guest. Once we were seated, the special service continued and was consistent throughout the evening. The manager was present and engaging with all of the guests. The server was very knowledgeable and provided the best recommendations. Everything was delicious! I would definitely recommend the Semi-fatty Tuna Nigiri, it was rich and flavorful. The Seared Toro Nigiri & Seared Salmon Sushi melted in my mouth. You can taste the quality and freshness of the fish. Each bite felt like an experience and left me wanting more. I can't wait to return!
Some people think that this restaurant just serves food taken from the attached store but after eating there I know that is NOT true. Everything on the menu is created uniquely and from scratch in the restaurant's own kitchen. The staff are all courteous and professional. The food is so rich and high quality I was delighted with everything I ate. I absolutely adore the floor to ceiling windows which let in so much natural light and makes the entire place feel like a fantasy courtyard, so I would recommend making a reservation for 5 or 6 o clock to enjoy that. Then latter in the evening the room is beautifullly lit with intimate golden lighting. Will absolutely be back. : )
I had such a great time at this restaurant. The staff is attentive, the hospitality is 10/10 and everyone is just so nice. Everything we had was AMAZING from the maki to the chicken wings, branzino and Japanese sweet potato sandwiches. They have amazing spins on the most basic food and it truly takes your taste buds on a pleasant ride. Can’t wait to go back!
I’d been curious about Next Door by Wegmans since it opened earlier this year and finally had the chance to dine here this weekend. I’d had the fatty tuna and salmon from the Wegmans fish market downstairs previously, so I knew the quality of the fish would be good, but had read some mixed reviews about this place. It completely exceeded my expectations, though, and we had a lovely evening overall. From the outside, the restaurant looks upscale, but the entrance is inside the grocery store, which may kind of downgrade the experience. Once you walk in, though, you’re greeted by friendly servers into a modern, spacious dining area. I would say highlights for me were: 1. the service 2. the quality of the food 3. the atmosphere 1. Service In the beginning, service was a bit slow and it took a while to be able to order and to get our drinks and appetizers. We didn’t complain or anything, but they brought us a complimentary dish that we were considering ordering as one of our appetizers. We were pleasantly surprised and it was a delicious dish. Then, there was a bit of a miscommunication regarding wasabi with one of our orders. But this was also handled very professionally (as it would have been in Japan, which is not as common here). Nick was very personable and offered me another glass of prosecco—he actually brought me a glass of Pommery, which I really enjoyed. 2. Food Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. I really liked that they had a variety of non-sushi dishes as well, especially vegetables. - lobster miso soup x2 - This is seasonal and not cheap, but a must try! It tasted more like lobster bisque than miso soup, but I love lobster bisque, so it was perfect for me. - grill shishito peppers - You can’t really go wrong with shishito peppers, but this comes with a tofu dip and salt on the side. I’m not a garlic-lover, so I used the salt and it was very nice. - grilled seasonal mushrooms - This came with maitake tempura and grilled maitake—I especially enjoyed the tempura. - nigiri variation (9 pieces) x2 - You get one piece of each nigiri listed on the nigiri menu. Although they are fresh and of high quality, they are very very small. So it’s easy to eat, but may not be enough for the average person. They do put fancy toppings on (which I actually prefer without, so I can enjoy the fish itself without caviar or jalapeños overpowering the sushi…). My favorites were the otoro (fatty tuna) / chutoro (semi-fatty tuna), hotate (scallop) and uni (sea urchin). 3. Atmosphere With a stylish decor, high ceilings and spaced out tables, it has a chic, comfortable atmosphere. The one lowlight would be that they only have one bathroom. (There is one inside the grocery store, but it’s apparently not as nice). When you consider the portions (especially sushi), it may be on the pricier side, but the quality is definitely there and it’s worth it for the overall dining experience. I look forward to dining here again.
Blew away my expectations. Great service and they comp’d us with extra sushi/a desert for apparently waiting too long for our food (we didn’t). The desert was amazing and I loved the atmosphere of the place
Went for an impromptu dinner date with my husband after a very stressful week, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm and welcoming, seating us in a cozy corner booth with a great view of the dining room. The space strikes that rare balance of elegance and comfort. Service was impeccable, and the food was unbelievably fresh. Chris, the GM, came to politely and attentively check on us to make sure everything was ok. Every dish was delicious, but some truly stood out as flavor bombs - like the otoro bite, tuna tataki, and wagyu beef taco - that instantly made us go “wow.” Midway through dinner, a kind gentleman named Danny stopped by to say hello. At first, we thought he was just another guest, but by the end we learned he was actually the owner, Danny Wegman, dining with his family nearby. He even surprised us by sending over a couple of extra dishes to try. We would have given this place a five-star review no matter what, but that thoughtful gesture made the evening feel extra special
Excellent food and service. For asian cuisine it matches the nyc quality and i thought the location is cool too. The wait staff was very good at accommodating allergies and had spot on dish recommendation. Definitely get a reservation, I could see this place getting popular quick.
Was blown away by the experience of dining at Next Door. I’m already a fan of the sushi counter within Wegman’s and had high expectations for the sushi here which were certainly met. But what I was not expecting was some of the best meat dishes I’ve had in the city! The beef carpaccio was our favorite, we ordered a second!! The Rib eye was also unbelievable, and the way they cut and serve it is so unique! The ambiance is lovely, feels like NYC high end dining, we were complementing the florals and the host let us know they are done by the florist in the grocery store—which has now become our fav place to pick up arrangements for our home and quick gifts. Overall a major addition the neighborhood, cost for quality was super affordable for NYC dining, we will be back often!
The food here was phenomenal. Highlights were the wagyu taco, toro bite, and nigiri! We will definitely be back. Of course, Wegmans never disappoints!
Not sure why the pin is at Bway and Wanamaker? The entrance to the restaurant is through Wegmans. Restaurant is fantastic! Ingredients are super fresh, flavors pop, and dishes are neatly composed. Please do not assume this is typical supermarket sushi.

This was one of the neatest dining experiences. We came all the way from NM to eat dinner and shop at the grocery store. It could have used a train but maybe next time. lol thanks for such amazing food and awesome staff!!!

The Japanese sweet potato was absolutely stellar, incredibly delicious; a must get. The cauliflower was very good, the charred broccoli and mushrooms was very good too. Got the shishito peppers to start and they were delectable. Got the raspberry sorbet for desert and it was, again, delicious. Not a bad dish was had. Loved our server, she was very attentive.
SHOUT OUT to the amazing team- from the beginning to the end of service we felt accommodated & welcomed. Just to name a few stars ! Loved the lychee martini and the golden autumn DRINKS Fire Spark “Hibana” Golden Autumn “Kinshu” Japanese Indigo “Aizome” Lychee Martini Astor Old Fashioned Mains were all 10/10 cannot go wrong at all. MAIN Organic Chicken with pumpernickel & Japanese curry, butter lettuce & lemon Koji marinated grass- fed rib eye Whole branzino with shiso chimichurri sauce Baked Japanese sweet potato with black garlic ponzu butter & lime Can’t rave about my overall experience enough! Will definitely be returning. It’s great for date night as well as groups. The bar is also great for solo. This restaurant is just amazing !
Had a wonderful evening at Next Door at Wegmans! The atmosphere was both attractive and comfortable, perfect for a relaxing dinner. Every dish we tried was absolutely delicious and beautifully prepared. The staff was amazing—attentive, professional, and made the entire experience feel special. I really enjoyed the spicy margarita, while others in my group loved the exceptional selection of red and white wines. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food, drinks, and top-notch service. We will be back!
I was here recently for a special occasion with a group of six people, and it was one of the most incredible meals I had ever had (which is saying a lot since I have eaten at multiple Michelin Star restaurants and had recently returned from Japan). The food was delicious and the presentation excellent, with several dishes served table-side. The sushi was fresh with creativity I had not seen since Morimoto’s place closed down on the West side. And make sure to order some desserts which were a perfect end cap to a wonderful meal. We got various cocktails and sake which everyone liked. It was impressive that the restaurant was able to meet the dietary restrictions of multiple people, including vegetarianism and lactose intolerance. The atmosphere was elegant, nestled in the heart of Astor Place, with plenty of windows and intimate lighting. Importantly, the service was exceptional. The manager had gotten flowers for the special occasion, and the staff were extremely pleasant and attentive to detail. One of the food specials was even the guest of honor’s favorite fish (which I wonder if it was done to give the guest of honor plenty of options, another small but important detail). I was impressed by the fact that our water glasses were never empty. The waitress was professional and really knew the menu. Even the chef swung by to introduce themselves and discuss their inspiration for some of the dishes. Honestly, this location in NYC may even be better than the original in Rochester (and when is a sequel ever better than the original). I will be back soon to try the omakase/tasting menu. In summary, if you have a special occasion coming up or are looking for a great sushi/Japanese dining experience, make sure to book at table at Next Door by Wegmans.
Top notch sushi and contemporary Japanese cuisine. The restaurant is just the right mix of elegant and casual. You feel special and well taken care of with tables spaced generously by New York standards. The food is really special. Maki is delicious particularly the restraint shown with not too much rice! We had incredible oysters. The fish is really fresh. Honestly we love coming here for a perfect meal. Go!

Very clean and nice environment. Food here was great! I am coming back for amazing fresh oysters that my wife loved so much. Edamame is free and was excellent. Fois gras was tasty and was served more than I thought. Sweet eggplant was fantastic. Yuzu marinated king crab leg was not bad. Not Japanese style though. Overall, these contemporary Japanese dishes were too Americanized still in terms of taste. The food comes out slowly with recommended 2-3 dishes per person. Service is pleasant. Recommend for try!
My mom has been wanting to try Wegmans next door for a minute. The interior in here is really nice. I like the green seats and the greenery. The truffle taco piece of sushi is really good. It has a rich truffle and umami flavor. I’m glad I got this for a starter. The skewers were seasoned well. You get a mix of meat and vegetables. It was quality meat. Tender and soft. The eggplant has a nice texture. I just wish it had a better hit of the sweet sauce. The steak was amazing. Might be my favorite dish. Not a big fan of the crab leg flavor wise. I don’t know if it was the yuzu. I enjoyed the presentation of the sweet potato. Amazing concept. I love how they bake half of it and fry the rest as chips. They could’ve mixed it up better. I tried 3 of the desserts. The cheesecake was interesting. It was good but I don’t know how to feel about the sesame crust it was like a cracker. I was recommended to try the semifreddo. Unique flavor on this one. I like the presentation on this one. They topped it with gold. The mochi was my favorite it comes from San Francisco and it may be the best 9’e I’ve ever had. It doesn’t taste like the typical store bought mochi. The service here is really good. They were attentive and took care of us. Plus the food comes out fast. Expect to pay $$$ but small portions. It’s definitely an experience here and I was satisfied.
