Opinions de Grey Bar & Restaurant New York
Was here for NYC Pride 2022 and it was great! The bartender kept the drinks coming as I wanted and was super friendly. Even when it got busy I still felt well attended to. The drinks were delish! The Flirty Martini was my absolute fav. I’ll definitely pop in next time I’m in the area!
The food was good. The waitress (Nadya) was excellent. The new manager (Jason) was wonderful. Thank you for making our night better.
When you rush in, uninvited, no reservation on Thanksgiving eve, you do not expect much. Nevertheless, I had a lovely and tasty dinner. The soup was good and the stake and tiramissu were very good. Nice place, not that noisy, lovely designed and one lovely lady from California :) Thank you and happy holidays
Had an amazing veggie goat cheese pizza with a few drinks and watched a basketball game. There were some relaxed vibes and good service. Went twice in a week and would absolutely go again when I'm in the area
Service was incredible, had freshly made shrimp tempura and the lavender gin. Great drinks and good vibes from the service staff:)
Excellent Bar. I wish they opened for Brunch a little earlier. The food is terrific! If you're looking for a location that is a little more quiet but sure to be satisfying, do yourself a favor and stop by. Staff here were also great!
Loved the food and the service! The mezcalita was also amazing!
Very friendly bartender, big smile, was there earlier today. Had a burger, and Maddison made me a dreamsicle martini. Really good bar.
Maddison is a fantastic bartender! Kept me entertained all night! Her Manhattans are incredibly good, service excellent, will be back soon!
Always a good time here. The staff and ownership are very kind , thoughtful and accommodating. The food is always on point. The space is open and airy with lots of TVs. Never feels too crowded. Solid spot to watch sports. The lamb chops with shoe string fries drizzled with honey is my favorite and is awesome. The Blackened Chicken sando is spicy and satisfying.
I absolutely adore coming to Grey Bar! I travel frequently for work and just happened upon Grey Bar during one of my visits and had such an incredible experience with Maddison that I always have to stop by when I come into town! She goes above and beyond to provide such an amazing experience and I truly look forward to our chats from the moment the plane touches down. Amazing conversationalist, fantastic memory, and soooo funny to boot- her positive energy is contagious and always leaves me feeling recharged and ready for anything my busy schedule throws at me! Highly recommend!
We stopped in for a quick drink before our museum reservation, and Madison was so delightful behind the bar we promised a return when we were done. She made us delicious palomas and garden mules (cucumber/blueberry/vodka/ginger beer), and was the friendliest bartender we have encountered thus far in New York. Food menu looked wonderful but we didn’t try anything this time. You’ve made new friends from Seattle; we will be back!
I stopped in for a couple beers. I will say that I am only reviewing because I was treated very well. The owner of this restaurant came and spoke to me for quite a while. The servers accommodated me when I needed to step back to my hotel. The Buffalo wings were amazing. The Maryland Terps flag was an added bonus for me. Please come here for the happy hour 4 until close at the very least.
I have only ordered the burger but the two times I have had it, they were happy to substitue onion rings for fries. I can't eat potatoes and a lot of restaurants get uppity if younask for a food substitute. They are open late on week nights so it's a great place to head to after meetings at the Grand Lodge or if your in one of the numerous dance studios in the area.
Our usual handout spot for post office happy hours. Good options and the sides are really good. Service is great and we usually get seats without reservation - but that's usually Tuesday / Thursday. Good place - recommended!
Amazing service and delicious food! Stopped by with someone right before the kitchen closed. The ambience was nice and the lamb chops were to die for! My plus one loved their food (the Blackened Chicken Melt), too. Definitely will revisit.
Great upscale bar in the flat iron!! The food is great! Bartender and servers are fantastic... the decor is very nice.. the margarita pizza is to die for and the drinks were not watered down.. i like to go fri or sat nights great atmosphere and also opens late
Great food and atmosphere. We had the ahi tuna appetizer which was extremely good and flavorful. The wedge salad was fresh and delicious. We also had a grilled shrimp salad which was top notch. Friendly staff! We will definitely be back.
I recently stopped by this gem of a bar in Chelsea and absolutely fell in love with Maddison’s service. She was fast, efficient, and friendly behind the bar. I’d definitely make it a point to sit at the bar and let her work her magic :). Try the fish and chips or the calamari, the latter of which, is on par with some of the best in New York City. I’d give this bar 6 stars if I could!
Great sports bar with surprisingly excellent food! Very attentive staff and great atmosphere. If u want to watch English PL game: this is the place!
Fantastic Bar Restaurant....the food is excellent.... delicious burger....melt in the mouth beef medallions....bacon brussel sprouts to die for and awesome onion rings....mash as good as it gets...and lots more on the menu that I'll be back soon to try....on top of all this we had great cocktails and the service was perfect! Highly recommended!!
one of my favorite spots in the city, but not just because of the drinks… the REAL highlight is the staff. to be more specific, the angel behind the bar, Maddison. her cocktails? impeccable. her timing? flawless. the perfect combo of charming, witty, and attentive. i nearly maxed out my credit card just because i enjoyed chatting with her so much and i left with a buzz that had very little to do with alcohol. def helps that she is so distractingly cute. will be returning thanks
This is a clean and comfortable establishment, with a nice menu and great food. Best of all is the bartending by Maddison! Fun, friendly, attentive and busy-bar efficient, Maddison sets a welcoming vibe for all the guests at the bar. If you looking for a better midtown bar experience, give Grey Bar and Restaurant a try!
They have the best nachos ever. Madison (bartender) said she fully agreed and could never make herself!! Guinness glasses were SMALL, not standard but will be back probably because of the vibe and the nachos. Shout out Madison!
Thank you Maddison for an amazing night, never met a personality like this bartending, very old school place where you can have a convo.
I’ve been coming to Grey Bar for 5 years. John, the owner is amazing and super personable. Vinny is the bartender on the weekends and is the absolute best. Very engaging in conversation, constantly coming over to check if everything is alright, and all around great guy.
Maddison was awesome! I had a delicious dinner and wine was nice! Maddison was super efficient, very professional, great service, very friendly and sincerely engaging. She made my evening really special as I was dining alone. She is awesome and I will return again.!!!
Couldn’t find a place to watch Knick’s versus Boston Celtics game 6. I emailed the place and John replied to me, saying they have the last table left. The food and service was great. Luckily, the Knicks won the series that night. Going back tonight in the hopes of that luck shining again lol Let’s Go Knicks!
This bar was fantastic! They went out of their way to find the game we wanted to watch and gave us such great service! Their food was great and we will definitely be back!
This was a nice place to have a drink and a good burger. The service was good and people were friendly. The beer on tap was fresh and cold. I ordered a burger and fries, my food came out fresh and hot. They cook food to order which is nice because I’m not a fan of well don’t beef. I would recommend Grey Bar and Restaurant to anybody looking for a good lunch.
Vinny is the best bartender here. I’m from south FL but I visit NYC often and I will definitely be visiting here just to see him. This bar is great but the service was amazing. Super glad I came here 😊
After our original plans did not pan out, we decided to walk to Grey Bar near our hotel to grab a quick bite to eat. Glad we did! We got there around 11pm Saturday night and there was no wait. The bar and atmosphere was nice, the staff was super friendly and the food pretty good, especially the lamb chop. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, check it out!
I would highly recommend checking out Grey’s Bar if you’re in the area! I was at the end of a long day and wanted some tasteful comfort food- and this place hit the spot. The drink menu was simple and straightforward, I got the Flirtini which was very refreshing. I ordered the lollipop lamb chops appetizer which came on a bed of shoestring sweet potato fries drizzled in honey, and … wow. I’ve never had a more perfectly crunchy fry in my life. I asked the bartender which vegetable to order on the side, he recommended the goat cheese cauliflower. I was hesitant at first, but I was right to trust him! I never thought I could like cauliflower so much. As if the food wasn’t good enough, I also really enjoyed the service I got from the bartender Shawn. He was funny and chill, and made excellent recommendations! I would most definitely go here again.
If you're looking for a place with great vibes and a great bartender this is the spot. Maddison is hands-down one of the best bartenders; friendly, attentive, and genuinely fun to talk to. Whether you’re a regular or it’s your first time, she treats everyone like an old friend. She’s great at reading the room and playing awesome music. There are lots of TVs, just ask and they will put your game on. The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming, can’t recommend this place enough—go for the drinks, stay for the sports and vibe, and thank Maddison for making it all feel like home.
I love this bar! All the staff are really great, the food is awesome, and they have Sunday Ticket to have on all NFL games. We go there regularly and always sit with our favorite bartender, Madison. Madison is very attentive and remembers our favorite items from the menu. She's also hilarious and we love chatting with her. The owner is very friendly and accommodating to our requests by changing the games to show our favorite teams to the TVs that are closest to our seats. This place is excellent and the perfect place for us.
I stumbled upon here by accident, but I'm very happy I did. I tried a couple of the house cocktails and they did not disappoint. I ordered the angel hair pasta for a late dinner and it was so light, eyes filling at the same time. I was beyond satisfied. The service from Oscar, the bartrnder, only enhanced my experience that much more. I look forward to returning here.
I used to live in the area, and my friends and I still stop in to visit Maddison whenever we’re in Chelsea. The staff is a big reason we keep coming back. If you’re at the bar, get the buffalo chicken sliders, you won’t be disappointed. The place is spacious for groups and a great spot to watch a game.
Had a great time! The service at the bar was excellent—the bartender was super friendly and really knew his stuff. Even though I didn't catch his name, he made the night great.
My husband and I love coming here and sitting at the bar, especially because of their amazing and great bartender Maddison! No matter how busy she is, she always finds time to talk to everyone and is so friendly, fun to talk to and makes really good drinks. The food is top notch too!
Grey bar is our local bar and it singlehandedly saves my sanity when I can’t go out far due to a new puppy. The food and drinks are great, the bartenders are friendly, and they always play the main sports games. Love it!
Shout out to Steve at the bar for making our visit and game night at the bar a memorable and personable experience. Although our team lost, Steve was the best and took care of us the whole night with the best drinks and best food. Would def come back! Hopefully next time, the Blue Jays can win the World Series.
Weekly attendance to this bar. My husband and I I love to order fried chicken wings and a must try sliders every visit. Never had juicy and delicious sliders like Grey Bar has.
Spent our last night in NY here and we certainly weren't disappointed. The food was amazing and the service was exceptional. The lovely lady that served us (sorry I can't remember your name) was so attentive and even sang us happy birthday, with candles in our cheesecake, for our joint 60th birthdays. The whole place joined in 🙈. I cannot fault anything, just wish we had found it sooner. Thank you.
Stopped in for a late meal with some friends. We were sat down immediately. Service was great and the food came out quickly. Pizza and pasta were excellent fry ok. The one pie had pepperoni, prosciutto and capicola. That and the angel hair pasta were my favorite. Simple menu and everything was great. Can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.
Now this is my kind of venue!! This is exactly how I used to enjoy the sports bars here in NYC in the 90’s. Fantastic layout, big screens easily viewed, great decor, great vibe, the team there are super friendly and attentive, but not in an overbearing way. The food was great and sensibly priced, especially for Manhattan right now. It smelled fabulous when served up! If I lived more locally this would be a very regular haunt for me. I love it and wish them every success. I can’t wait to return!
I love the laid-back vibe of this place. They are super low key but have their act together for both drinks and food. I got the chocolate martini and thin crust margarita pizza that was delicious. Also love that you can be spontaneous here and walk in without the hassles of needing reservations always.
Upscale sports bar atmosphere. Table service was really quick and the drinks were good. Didn't get any food so can't personally review that but saw clean plates at other tables.
The salmon is amazing and fresh! Sub the cauliflower and rice for potatoes and spinach. The burger was a little dry but it still had a great taste. I would definitely come back!
Stopped in on a rainy Sunday with a couple of friends before going to a show. They had football playing which drew a small crowd. Service was scattered but fine. I was really craving an espresso martini and took a gamble by ordering one here - I do not recommend. It tasted like straight Kahlua, was way too sweet, and wasn’t even the right color. You live and you learn! Maybe stick to beer.
Good sports bar. 3x sports feeds on the TV behind the bar. Nice long bar for solo travellers like myself. Wasn’t very busy for a Saturday night - which suited me. Food was fine, for bar food. Had Turkey and avocado sandwich which came with fries. 1x lady on the bar - who was a little distracted chatting to her friends at the other end. But otherwise a decent sports bar.
Honest review of the bar and bartender: After a long day of touristing, I wanted a beer. Was recommended to come here and was pleasantly surprised that it was a quiet bar. On the other hand it was a Sunday and all. I came in asked about the local area and stores and the bartender took her time and directed me towards what I was look for, and was very patient with my slow self. Only reason not all 5 is bc the cost of the beer was nearly $10. If ya like this review hit the like and follow button for more. Have a great day!!!
Fun dinner here on a late holiday evening after partying next door at La Vibra. The Moroccan Salmon with rice was amazing. Service was great. It's listed as open till 2am, but the kitchen closes around midnight.
Ordered three beers and a mozzarella sticks appetizer. Pretty good! Loved the ambience and they actually turned on the audio to the sporting event that was on TV. Upscale sports bar is a great way to describe it. It was relatively slow when I went, but still took forever to get service. I thought that was weird considering I saw three different servers on the floor. Ultimately, I would return if I was in the area. But wouldn’t make the trip to midtown just to go there.
Excellent atmosphere and ambient. Customer service is pretty good but it tends to get crowded and when that happens quality decreases. Also, prices are very reasonable for the area and the restaurant's thematic. Overall, a delightful experience and if you enjoy to watch game matches they have super big screens to do so.
The environment was warm and welcoming. Very sexy and romantic (maybe because we had just left the Sex Museum 😏). The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the scallops with Quiona and sautee Spinach. Their mixed drinks were fabulous. I loved their Pinot Grigio and forgot to ask which brand. My friends and I stumbled upon this place on a whim. We were hungry and looking for someplace close to eat - Gray Bar Restaurant was a nice find, and the pricing was reasonable.
Came in for a bite. The lollipop lamb chops were delicious. Asked for it well done—. They were juicy. Disclosure- they were an appetizer. The fríes were interesting. Skinny and crunchy, with a sprinkle of sweetness. Highly recommend it. Relaxed, people coming in after work. Most of them sat at the bar. One bartender for the entire place 😟 did her work efficiently but…
Stopped in for a late Sunday brunch. Lots of TVs for catching all the NFL games. Had a lively crowd of football fans enjoying the games. The menu is small, but they have a few extra brunch items on Sunday. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was fresh, hot and tasty. Portions were plentiful. The pickles are excellent by the way.
Grey Bar and Restaurant serves the local community as a solid place to get a well-made drink and some simple but decent bar food. The upscale glass and chrome décor bar is often packed with sports fans enjoying mainstream sports on the televisions which adorn all available wall space. I’ve only had appetizers here and they’ve always been very good, albeit a little pricey. Fair warning: if you are seeking privacy, intimacy or elbow room you may want to reconsider this venue.
Decent not great beer selection, prices are about on par with other places. The establishment was clean and the staff friendly. What was odd is I barely saw any female guests in here, so ladies if you wanna pick up a guy you got your choice: Wasn’t overly a fan of the bartender as my buddy and I were deciding if we were gonna get another beer so she poured us one before we said yes. It’s one thing if you’re friendly bartender and pouring a customer a drink at no cost but you shouldn’t pour a drink and charge a customer without their expressed permission. Food was good and came out quick and was cooked accurately.
Food was good. Angel hair pasta needed more sauce/taste to it. The drinks are okay-nothing special. The waitresses are awful. We went two separate times in two days and our waitresses ignored us the entire time that we were there. We were there for at least 2 hours both times. Saw our waitresses two or three times. Paid no attention to us or our needs. This place needs new staff.
I was searching for a nice hole-in-the-wall spot where I can come in dressed casually when Greys popped up on my Yelp. Inside is a bar with modern touches. There are plenty of televisions as well. I was greeted immediately and I chose to sit down by the bar. It was casual, most people were in for work food, drinks, and conversation. I went to the bathroom before I sat down and I want to say that the large bathroom has a problem locking. When I went to sit, I sat at the bar. It took a couple of minutes to get someone’s attention. For a drink, I was looking for a sweet Prosecco. When I asked the bartender, he didn’t have the answer, but he offered to give me a taste test. He then pulled out La Marca and I told him to give me that. I was looking for the glass, however, he gave me the bottle ($8 difference). For food, I ordered the Angel Hair Pasta. The presentation was great. The portion seems deceiving, but it’s very filling. Taste-wise, the pasta was decent, the shrimp was pretty good. The bread severed with it was good, just a bit crunchy. In all, I would probably say Grey’s is where you can have a casual date night. It’s a shame that they don’t have a happy hour because I feel like it would do well in this area.
Currently a tourist in New York The restaurant is very nice inside, unfortunately the Greybar Burger left much to be desired; Which is disappointing considering the burger is named after the restaurant. It was overcooked, dry and unseasoned. The “wood smoked” bacon had no flavour. The best part of the burger was the fries. Lambchops and steak were decent, although they were under-seasoned as well
Great place but needs better staff. Our waitress was rude towards me and my friends. Dropping beers on our table and not paying attention to us. The busboy was giving us better service than her. We left a friendly review on the check, and before I left a server approached me and told us not to do that and not to come back anymore. That just tells you what kind of service they have.
While the drinks and atmosphere were great, my experience was soured by an interaction with the bartender. At 11:45 PM - 15 minutes before midnight - I approached the bar to order another drink, only to be rudely told that service ended at midnight. Since the bar was open until 2 AM and we were seated at a table rather than the bar, we never heard a last call announcement. The lack of clear communication and the bartender’s dismissive attitude put a damper on an otherwise enjoyable evening.
So loud. The acoustics in this place are that of the tin can on the exhaust of your boyfriend’s Honda back in high school. Cacophony doesn’t begin to describe the sounds in this place. Why play music? Is it to increase the challenge? Food was ok I think. It was so loud I lost my sense of taste. Eat here only if you see less than 10 people in the place including the staff. Otherwise wear earplugs and learn sign language.
My coworkers and I used to absolutely love this bar. We’ve visited many times, especially since our office is nearby, and the service from the waitstaff and bartenders has always been exceptional. However, last night was a completely different experience. We walked into a nearly empty bar and were quickly seated at a high-top with limited surface area. While the service started off strong (waters were brought promptly and our orders were taken right away) unfortunately, the cramped space led to a spilled water. If you’ve ever worked in the service industry, or even just been to a restaurant, you know this happens often. What followed, however, was deeply disappointing. The owner came over to help clean up the water, but instead of offering a kind gesture or asking if I was okay, he aggressively moved me out of the way and snapped, “I’m not doing this all night with you guys!!” I was left standing there soaked, without a single apology or offer of assistance. His attitude was shockingly disrespectful. To make matters worse, he assumed we were intoxicated, yet I hadn’t had a single drink that evening. Later, when a coworker apologized for the spill, the owner didn’t even acknowledge the apology. He didn’t make eye contact, just walked right past us as if we weren’t there. I want to be clear: the rest of the staff - our waiter and the bartenders - were fantastic, checking in frequently and providing excellent service. It's just incredibly disappointing that the owner, John, whom we had enjoyed interacting with in the past, treated us this way. I truly hope this was an isolated incident, but I can’t ignore how badly it affected our experience.
So this place was disappointing to say the least! We came here to have a quick bite; we were a big group so we had to wait for a table; which is perfectly fine we didn’t have a reservation. The problem started with the server we haven’t sat down when she was asking if we knew what we would be having to drink. That was the first red flag. After we sat down, I ordered a Pink Flirtini (when you see the ingredients it sounds delicious) it’s a lie! It tastes just like NyQuil- disgusting. I ordered fried calamari they were extremely hard, stale and not good! I made the mistake to asked the server for a recommendation she suggested the “Angel Hair Pasta - it comes in a white wine sauce with shrimp and Parmigiana cheese- this was the most over cooked pasta I have ever had! It was tasteless, I was forced to add salt, pepper and red chili pepper to give it some taste. I was forced to order a Prosecco because the original drink was so disgusting; finally I order tiramisu - I don’t know why I did this. Never in my life (and had eaten tiramisu in Italy) had had a tiramisu that tasted like it had powder cinnamon all over. One of the people that accompanied me ordered a burger it was salty. And to make matters worse they brought out the appetizers with the food and even the dessert! Like where is your sense of timing. The server was just completely out of touch with time and once the food came out she never came to even check if we needed anything. The only reason I’m giving it 2 stars is because the hostess was very nice and they were able to accommodate us on a table and the decor is very festive. It is safe to say that I will never go there not even if I’m starving and definitely wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Don’t waste your money there are better places to grab a bite in the area.
As an affluent, this place is extremely racist towards blacks. If you’re Caucasian, you will enjoy the service. I came to dine with my female friend and every minute, we were asked if “we needed something” as if we broke and couldn’t afford the menu. If you’re Black American, choose another place to eat.
Madison the bartender is entertaining but needs to know when to stop. When you insult your patrons who pay your wage and make it personal it’s too far. Know your audience, know your role. Ageism and comments about appearance are not appreciated and you are far from perfect.
The owner or manager is extremely rude (tall built older white man). We accidentally knocked a water glass that broke and he freaked out and told us that we should have been cleaning up all of the glasses in front of us as if it was our job.
Horrible customer service. On February 9th, my friends and I visited this place. We closed our bill at 11 PM, and the waiter assured us that we could still order more cocktails at the bar afterward. At 11:30 PM, we went to the bar to place an order, but the bartender rudely refused to serve us. He was extremely incompetent, unprofessional, and disrespectful, despite the fact that the bar is supposed to be open until 2 AM. I believe the entire staff should undergo proper customer service training, and even better, this place should be shut down and stop taking up space in Manhattan.
Went in for a beer special. The total bill was $7.60. I put down a $10 bill and 2 quarters and a dime. Female bartender freaked out and rudely said, "We don't take quarters here, so I guess I will round it down for you." I told her she could keep the quarters and round it up. She said rudely, no. It is weird that this female bartender (black hair) works in the hospitality field and has no hospitality skills. Shame on you, female bartender.
We visited the bar on February 9th. The waiter told us that we would be able to order cocktails until 2 AM. We closed our bill as the waiter was leaving. Later, at 11:30 PM, we went to the bar to order another cocktail, but the bartender was extremely rude, homophobic and impolite, refusing to take our order. Despite the bar being open until 2 AM, the bartender denied our order in a very disrespectful manner. I do not recommend this place, terrible service.
Starting off, this is nothing against the staff that works here, or the server that we had. We waited over 45 minutes for our entrees, and were given a lackluster excuse as to why there was such a delay to our food. When we finally decided to ask for a manger to speak to, the manager came to us, immediatly hostile very aggressive. He claimed he was the owner, which is insane behavior coming from him. When we told him how long we were waiting for our food, he responded with “no the food was put in at this time 0:00” (which was 20 minutes after we ordered intially) ****Current update: he FIRED the waitress that was serving us to no fault of her own******* Unbelievable, inappropriate and unprofessional behavior!!!!!
I was very sad a week ago I went to this restaurant and the lady bartender was very mean to me she was super friendly with everyone else Caucasian but she refused to look at me and say hello she stare into space and said What You Want and I said hi how are you and then she said I don’t have to answer that and left. I was perplexed she came back and said are you ordering and I got a beer but then I noticed she was super nice to everyone else at the bar …. I don’t understand so I left. I feel so sad I live across the street and used to like it there but now with her tending the bar I fear going there. Is it because I am dark skin ? I don’t know.
This is the first bad review I’ve ever written- but this experience earned it. If you want a fun, happy night out, stay far away from the bad vibes here. The bartender brought such bad energy and was a total buzz kill on what started off as a happy go- lucky night. I ordered a mule that was supposed to be made with Grey Goose, and he used Absolut vodka instead. My husband caught his attention to ask about the Grey Goose, and the bartender slung the Absolut vodka into the sink. He remade the drink with haste and added things that didn’t even belong. The drink wasn’t even a mule at that point. He was mumbling things under his breath the whole time. He then started arguing with us about opening a tab when my husband wanted to pay cash. I’ve never encountered a bar tender with such hostile energy. Meanwhile, the owner just stands around lurking and eyeing everything, making the whole place feel uncomfortable and puts guests on edge. Do yourself a favor and walk across the street to the Ivory Peacock where they treat you like gold.
DO NOT GO HERE!! not LGBT friendly. I sat at the bar. Food amazing, but staff is the WORST! bartender only talks to straight guys and ignores LGBT people. See photo. I felt so uncomfortable. The owner John even came up to me and ripped up my check and told me to leave and never come back. That’s fine! The food is always amazing, but they need to fire the staff!
