a lovely cafe with a dark ambiance, comfy couches and ample variety seating. WiFi, bathroom, great to get work done in or watch some stand up comedy (free every night @7pm!) It does fill up fast. The drinks are your standard cafe fare, reasonably priced, the barista can be a little cold but it matches the overall mood of the establishment!
The coziest coffee shop!!! I want this place to stay in business forever because this is what we need. Good prices, loads of drinks, ample seating, good customer service, an events calendar and a bunch of vintage board games to play with your friends. Long live Black Cat LES.
super cool vibes feels like a living room / old library. wifi password available if you purchase $5+. wine comes in a mason jar which is a nice touch. also there is a bathroom which is great
I recently visited this place for the first time in years. It was really great to re-visit. It is warm and cozy, great coffee, small business. There was an open mic night for stand up. Really enjoyed it.
Nice, cozy ambiance. Ordered an iced chai and chatted with a friend. I have it on their good authority that their smoothies are also good. The music was great as well
Come for the cozy and random assortment of furniture this delightful coffee house. It has a real Central Perk vibe going on that I can't help but enjoy. The tea is amazing, specifically Jasmine and Ginger teas. Everynight so far that I've seen in February they host small stand up comedy performances and on some nights they have open mic. The comedians are decently funny. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is one bathroom inside and a tea costs $4.00. They also have a printer there for use for all the students in need of printing. Take your time and relax everybody. Hope this review helps!
Great vibes and awesome to find a coffee shop open late. I got into the city before my friends and was able to enjoy myself here at 9pm with a delicious mocha. A comedy show started as a walked in and I had some laughs. Cool spot for sure.
Nice cozy cafe. They had decaf latte and I was able to stay for 30 min or so without feeling like I have to rush or anything. It was a Wednesday night, last day of July in 2019 around 2030 and the place was about 1/3 full. It has a free WiFi too, no password needed. The AC was the right temperature and the music volume was low so you can talk without screaming.
Good experience, a bit enclosed but cozy. The service is not the friendliest. They are fine though. The place doesn’t boast a sense of community, but usually filled with people reading and studying, which is good in its own right.
It's not just any old cafe that would think to use a rich, thick, sweet balsamic vinegar, good enough to sip all by itself, on their avocado toast.
What a cute and delightful place. My favorite coffee shop vibe in NY, the coffee was exactly what we wanted. Third wave, medium roast coffee.
This place is awesome. Really cool decorations and the bartender Bailey was super kind and attentive. The food was unreal and the sandwich “local”; which I got to go, kept perfectly for a few hours and was delicious. Can’t wait to come back
Really cool local neighborhood bar. They have great sandwiches. My favorite is the babe. Overall great vibes and definitely recommend anyone to go.
This place is absolutely amazing!!! my boyfriend and I came to visit from Vegas and we were here for four days and every day we were here we came to here. Our Airbnb was right down the street which was a bonus, but even if we weren’t that close, we would’ve probably still visited this place because it was amazing the first day we tried them. The service is phenomenal. The drinks are amazing. The the food is absolutely delicious. The vibes in the whole area are just immaculate. They have so many different areas to sit and chill all the way to the back and just wow…they’re great!!! Can’t say it enough. We are coming back to visit and we will for sure be back here.
Loved the food, service was great! Felt like a valued guest. The staff that work here are awesome. The sandwiches are amazing and the coleslaw! Thank you for making 3 Canadian friends feel welcome!
I absolutely adore this place. I’ve been here a few times now and the food always fantastic, reasonably priced, and all their bread is baked in house daily. The bartenders are super friendly and really give this place a great vibe too. It’s gonna be hard to not pop in everytime I’m in the LES. Tip: Get a sandwich with brussel sprouts; The Babe is my personal fav.
Joey Roses was great! It doesn’t look like much from the street, but that’s how you know it’s gonna be good. It’s basically a super cool dive bar with amazing food! Staff was super friendly. I got the Eastie and the brussel sprouts. Both were amazing! It’s a cool environment that I would come back and enjoy a drink in the evening. Definitely coming back.
The type of NYC sandwich I’d commute for just to bring on a flight!!!! I got their Cootlet Chicken Sando. It was the tastiest combination of flavors. I had to keep it professional at my work desk. Takeout time: 10-15 minutes tops. Order pickup in advance if you’re in a rush. Great service. Great bartenders. Decent portions, soft fresh bread, and quality ingredients.
We were in Chinatown in Little Italy and look for a sandwich shop. We had to walk a good distance to get here but it was worth it The sandwiches were not overpriced and were truly amazing. I got "the dad" sandwich and my date got "the Mickey" we enjoyed the vibe that's at this place. It is truly a hidden gem.
My friend and I drove to NY on our east coast road trip specifically to go to this sandwich shop after hearing about it so much on Joe’s podcasts. The sandwiches were delicious and the vibes were impeccable. The bartender/server had some fun Joe stories to tell and he was very nice! We will definitely be back when we make a longer NY trip.
Made it out to Joey’s for lunch on our trip to NYC and was not disappointed. I thought maybe all the hype was just Taste Buddies supporting Joe, but no, these sandwiches were great. We got the Local and the Slim Kid and both were excellent. Patrick was super nice and super chill. If you’re looking for an affordable place to eat in the city, you can’t go wrong here. Great work, DeRosa.
Dining at Joey Roses is a truly special experience. If you're looking for even better concierge service than McDonald's, you've come to the right place. I have been to both Subway and Jersey Mike's before, and I liked Joey Roses even more than both of these franchise establishments. Order a sub from Joey Roses, and you won't be able to walk away hungry. Joey Roses gives you more meat than you can imagine. I've said it once, I'll say it again. Joey Roses gives you more meat than you can imagine. I ordered The 'Ami and shared with my wife since it was such a substantial sandwich. Impressed would be an understatement. Overall very cool sandwich shop and very nice bartenders. Delicious subs for you and the family. Come to Joey Roses, open seven days a week!
Really great decor and chill vibe in there. Got “The Local” sandwich which was phenomenal!!! Really fresh ingredients and the bread was heavenly. And the bar tender was really sweet. Big fan of Joe’s podcast Taste Buds so I was really excited to try a sandwich, lived up to the hype! Very reasonable price too ($8) can’t wait to come back
Black Cat LES has an inconspicuous storefront for a Lower East Side cafe. once through the door, the interior opens up into a surprisingly medium/large space. it’s well-maintained and clean. the vibe is very community living room with a variety of seating options. lots of laptop-pers & tablet-ers at work when here last. there’s WiFi for those who need it. there are live events at night like music, readings, comedy, etc. there’s a variety coffee & tea drinks on the menu as well as variety of simple savory eats like sandwiches, toasts, and bagels. got a large drip coffee to fight a chilly weekday off with hot caffeine and it did the job. strong coffee, nice caffeine kick. it was a huge cup of coffee and it warmed up and sped up my walk of endless errands in the neighborhood. the staff is very chill and kind. cafes like this are becoming the rarity in NYC. cherish the neighborhood gems.
Black Cat LES isn’t your average coffee shop it feels like a living room for the Lower East Side. From the mismatched couches to the community events, there’s an unpolished charm that makes you want to linger. Their coffee hits the mark strong, unpretentious, and always fresh. I love that it doubles as a coworking space by day and a creative hub by night. It’s the kind of spot where conversations flow easily, and everyone feels like a regular.
Joey Roses is tucked away in the basement of a building, small spot, but full of personality. The sandwiches are okay, kind of like what you’d grab at a bodega. The meat itself is good, but the bread is a lot of bread. We tried the Eastie and the PB&J. That said, the vibe makes up for it. Worth checking out more for the vibe than the food.
Came here to work remotely. The place is super grungy with a cool vibe, the Barnstable isn't the warmest person but I didnt mind as its part of the underground "charm" of the place. My main issue was with the wifi- for a place that requires a purchase to get the password, I tried 3 different times and the internet was basically not existent. So if you're planning yo actually do some work- wouldn't recommend it.
Went on 10/5/2025 at 8:10 am and the Barista was just opening. Didn't start taking orders for another 10-15 minutes and was kind of rude. The latte when it finally came out was really good, I got the nutella latte which felt a little juvenile but she did great on that. Just got the bagel and it looks awesome so we'll see.
The barista was extremely unfriendly, exhibiting passive-aggressive behavior and clearly hating her job (evident from her shouting at guests towards the end). I visited this cafe for an event, and when I ordered an iced matcha latte (and tipped), the barista was not only passive-aggressive but also impatient. She/they made me feel as though I couldn't speak English while I ordered, even though I have lived in the U.S. for 10 years, speak fluent English, and work in a communication-heavy job. Towards the end of the event at 9pm (despite the cafe's closing time being listed as 10pm), the barista shouted at everyone, saying, "The cafe was supposed to close an hour ago! Nobody is paying me for this hour! Please leave!" This was unprofessional and unacceptable behavior. No professional staff member should ever shout at guests. Despite paying for drinks and tipping, the experience was terrible. Based on this, I cannot recommend this cafe to anyone. If you are the business owner, please address this rude behavior that occurred on June 26 (Wednesday) during the night shift. Improving staff behavior is crucial for customer satisfaction and the reputation of your cafe.
Very bad vibes here. There was only one employee working who was eventually rude and yelled at us and snatched our food away for accidentally taking the wrong order even though the ordering process was very chaotic and you had to guess if an item was yours when it came out. It was taking more than 20 minutes to get simple drinks out and I waited upwards of 30 minutes for a sandwich. Orders were disorganized and thrown out with no names attached which was very confusing. Food was ok although overpriced for the quality, but the rude and aggressive staff member made it a horrible experience. Would not recommend coming here.
The barista is *rude*. Idk if there are several but there is an older lady and does not put names on the coffees. So when people order the same kind of food or coffee they don’t know what belongs to who. Very uncomfortable. Poor customer service - she literally yells at customers. It also took over 30 min to get food
This place needs to seriously think about when and what days they do open mic comedy shows as they are often intrusive and do not have a schedule posted online so that people know to avoid the business those days. For example I am here on a Tuesday where every table is someone here to work and the comedy club essentially has forced multiple people to move for their setup.
Barista made a very rude comment about not tipping after I had paid. This was very off putting and made for a less than ideal experience.
As a longtime NYC resident, there are only a handful of times I’ve felt legitimately scammed at food establishments, and ordering from Joey Roses was one of them. I ordered a reasonably priced sandwich (no complaints there), but when they asked if I wanted a “side of coleslaw,” I said yes, expecting a normal deli portion. Instead, they handed me a 2oz condiment cup and charged $5 for it. Coleslaw isn’t caviar. It’s cabbage and mayo. Charging $5 for two bites is not just overpriced, it’s predatory. At this price point they are charging ~$40/lb for mediocre coleslaw. It’s an extremely poor practice to take advantage of customers in this way, and it guarantees I won’t be back. Plenty of delis in this city that respect their customers more. Update: $5 for 4oz?! aka $20 a pound for cabbage and mayo? That’s steakhouse filet mignon territory. Still a scam, and tells me they know exactly what they're doing.
