Opinions de Keki Modern Cakes New York
I’ve always loved the bouncy cheesecake and cream puffs from Let’s Bounce – Powered By Keki! Their flavors are consistently delicious, and the Valentine’s Day limited-edition heart-shaped red velvet cake was such a treat. They also participated in a street festival we produced in August at Columbus Park, and I had the pleasure of meeting Kevin and Ajay—truly the nicest people. Their energy and kindness matched the joy their desserts bring. Highly recommend both the sweets and the team behind them!
Small bakery located in Chinatown! Smells amazing as soon as you walk in. They even have a kiosk for you to order ahead. I got the original and forgot to take a picture :( But it was soo good and warm!
Fun spot in Chinatown serving fluffy Japanese-style cheesecakes and cute, bouncy desserts. The cheesecakes are light, jiggly, and perfectly sweet. Service is friendly and fast, and the shop feels cheerful and modern—great for a quick treat or dessert stop after a meal.
This was not my first time trying the bouncy cheesecake, and, as always, it was so unbelievably delicious. It's light, fluffy and not very sweet. It's better than any other cheesecake that I have ever tried, in my opinion. During my last visit I was given a star-shaped sample with a lemon flavor, and I liked it just as much as the original. I also enjoy their cream puffs, and even though they have multiple flavors, ube is my favorite one. I highly recommend this place. 👍👍
this is my go-to cake spot. it’s always a great people pleaser for any occasion. this time i tried their cute star cake. it tasted just like the original but was just in a cute star shape. i enjoyed the whimsy idea.
We ordered the Ube bounce cake and the pistachio cream puff. With was amazing! Not too sweet, light and airy and very moist and bouncy! Hence teh name! Love it! We'll be returning for more!
The customer service is top tier! I got a Ube cheesecake and 3 cream puffs and it was all delicious. The cookies and cream cream puff gave an ice cream consistency that my wife loves. My picky 7 year old is now an Ube lover and it’s thanks to these treats! I’ll be back this week to grab it again!
I don't usually write reviews, but this place deserves one. The staff were super friendly and welcoming! Got at an Ube jiggly cake for my wedding anniversary which I proceeded to eat half of like a proud trash panda finding a treasure, cause it was that good. We also got a few cream puffs in milk, pistachio and ube flavor which were also delicious. We will be back.
A must have every single time I am in NYC for either work or just visiting family. Anyone that comes to visit me know they can get rides from me if they bring me one of their Ube Cheesecake 🤭 Closest Japanese Cheesecake you will find in the USA in comparison to the ones in Japan! Their Cream Puffs are amazing as well. Their dessert aren’t overly too sweet like most places. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I’ve tried the bouncy cake, sponge cake and the cream puffs (milk, pistachio). All of them are very good. But if I have to choose 1 of them, it would the bouncy cake. The only downside is that it doesn’t have any other franchise and doesn’t deliver (not that I know of).
I book-marked this place a while ago and forgot all about it. Yesterday, while having a dumpling date with my niece and doing the “touristy” thing 🫣 we decided to find out what made me check Keki out - well, let me tell you, it is a definite recommendation while walking around. As a matter of fact, it’s a def recommend if you need something to make you feel better, feel happy, or just because you have time to stop by Mott St 🤣. The cream puffs are to die for!!! ube and cookies-n-cream would be my go to personally. The light texture of this heavenly dessert will make you feel like you’re floating on a fluffy cloud in a blue sky on a sunny day, taking mouthfuls of the delightfully light yumminess in, riding into the land of your dreams. The cream is weightless and is just sweet enough to satisfy without making you go into a diabetic comma. You experience the magic of this dessert and your taste buds relish the flavor to its fullest. To make a long story short - get up and go to Keki, NOW 😎 sorry, it didn’t last long enough to be photographed (this time)
This is my favorite type of cheesecake and cheesecake shop in NYC. The bouncy cheesecakes are very fluffy, light, moist, and lightly sweet. The ube version is just a tad bit more starchy and sweet than the original version. I love every single bite and can totally finish the whole cake that’s supposed to be for 3-4 people. If I have to pick 1 item from the menu, the original bouncy cheesecake would be it. The cream puffs are also very interesting. I like the flavors and the cream filling; not too sweet and plenty of cream. The texture of the outer layer is slightly chewy, but still familiar comparing to regular cream puff. Wow tart is crunchy and flaky on the outside, super eggy on the inside. The shop is very small. There is only enough space to order, you shouldn’t be expecting to eat the cakes here. It’s best to takeout and eat the same day. There are 2 locations as of 2024, 1 in Chinatown and 1 in Koreatown. You can walk into the store and see some cakes display at the Chinatown location but the location in Koreatown is only an ordering window. Pick-up process is quick, it doesn’t take much time if you want to preorder online for pick-up. Employees are very friendly. Highly recommended.
First thing I know when I went inside it was a great smell of butter all over the place. I wish they had seat to sit but since Covid, many of small place especially, Asian place still strictly follow the prototype of protection so no drinking or eating in the bakery. When I saw the menu, I wanted to buy all of stuff they have but I can only carry some of them, so I have to choose, plus my friend also asked me to get some creampuff for her. The wow trat is the Jem and creampuff has the most cream inside. I wanted to try cheesecake and sponge cake but I couldn't bring them all home this time. I definitely go back to buy more when I have a chance.
Walking through china town, we come across this bakery shop. Bouncy Japanese cheesecake is to die for! Delicious! The creme puff was a perfect size! The sponge cake, was too dry, if we had coffee to dip it in, it would have been perfect. I would love to go back for the bouncy cheesecake and creme puff!
The cream puffs were absolutely incredible. Do yourself a favor and try all of them bc there are worth it!! The cream was delicious and unlike many places, they were very generous with it (make sure to get some napkins). The staff was also nice. We didn’t try the cheesecake but will definitely come back to try it. I also want to try the Basque cheesecake. Edit: the original cheesecake is a must!! It’s not too sweet, just the perfect level of sweetness- you can finish your piece without feeling like you just had a sugar overload. Just the ideal dessert.
Omg this is the best cheesecake I’ve ever had! Not only was it buttery and soft, it melted in my mouth. It also bounced the way it is supposed to. I finished the whole cheesecake in 5 minutes. They make it fresh so you can enjoy it hot as soon as you buy! 💯 recommend! Edit as of October 23, 2022: Tried the Ube cream puff and had to get the original bouncy cheesecake again. I love it and will keep coming back every year for Keki Modern Cakes 😍😍😋
Back after 3 years. Got to try the Cream puffs, Fancy cheesecake, Bouncy Cheesecake, Ube Cheese cake, Wow tart, Sponge cake, and Glazing Cheesecake. Staff was helpful and friendly. Everything was so tasty fresh. My favorite was the Milk, Ube, Pistachio, and Cookies n Cream puffs. They were so soft and smooth in texture. The fancy cheesecake is a must try. The many layers are wonderful. Worth a shot
The place is really small. There was only cream puffs and the Japanese bouncy cake for sale. The cream puffs were really yummy. Comes in this cute box so the puffs don’t get squished. Must eat cold though. When the cream warms, it tastes weird. The bouncy cake is yummy too! The pistachio cream puff was not in season yet, looking forward to trying that.
I've ordered the green tea fancy cheesecake and bouncy cheesecakes at Keki Modern Cakes throughout the years, but most recently, we decided to try something different. We went for a cookies and cream fancy cheesecake ($40), as well as 3 cream puffs (3 for $10, or $4 individually). They only had pistachio, cookies+cream, and ube cream puffs left when we ordered on Feb 6, so we got one of each. At first, we thought the pistachio cream puff was green tea, so when we bit into it, we were surprised. It wasn't a crowd favorite, but the cookies+cream and ube cream puffs were A+++. Highly recommend those two flavors. Next time, would love to try the milk cream puff! The cookies and cream fancy cheesecake was A+++ as well. We kept it in the freezer and took it out to thaw about 2-3 hours before we wanted to eat it. Although it sure tasted like ice cream, it wasn't. Delicious either way! The layers consisted of cheesecake, cookies, and cookie mousse. We couldn't stop eating it!
Worth the Awkward Wait: The Fluffiest Cheesecake You'll Ever Eat Giving Keki Modern Cake 4 stars is a testament to the sheer, undeniable quality of their famous fluffy cheesecake. This is a classic example of a product being so phenomenal it forces you to overlook significant flaws in the customer experience—but those flaws are certainly present. Let's start with the star: the cheesecake. It is an absolute revelation. The texture is unlike anything else—incredibly light, airy, and bouncy, almost like a soufflé. It’s often served warm, boasting a perfect balance of creamy cheese flavor without being overly sweet or heavy. It truly melts in your mouth and is easily a five-star dessert, justifying the high price tag on quality alone. This cake is genuinely a must-try for any dessert lover. However, the in-store experience is where Keki severely falls short. The space itself is small and poor-looking, lacking the appeal you'd expect from a shop selling a premium product. More critically, the service needs major improvements. Upon entering the tiny store, two counter employees proceeded to completely ignore us. There was no greeting, no eye contact, and the silence was so awkward that I had to ask if the store was even open. For such a pricy product, customers deserve a minimum level of basic hospitality. Ultimately, the quality of the legendary jiggly cheesecake carries the weight and earns Keki four stars. You should absolutely go for the cake, but be prepared for a quick, uninviting, and disappointingly cold interaction. Management needs to immediately address staff training and storefront presentation to match the excellence of what they serve. No room to dine in, no coffee, tee or anything other than few items!
Great flavors! Took it to go and the wow tart is definitely my favorite and I'd come back for it. The cream puff is filled with ooey goodness. I personally do not like the texture or flavor of a bouncy cheesecake, but if you're doing to try it, this is the place. No slices offered, so get some friends or loved ones to share a cake with you...but no judgment if you eat it on your own!
Came for the cream puff but also brought home their cheesecake! I’ve been at Keki in ktown back in 2019 to try the ube bouncy cheesecake however at that time, i found it to be just okay. Now that i saw they had Ube cream puffs and the Pride cream puffs, i decided to revisit again. This time though I was in chinatown. They did not have the Pride puffs available but they did have the ube. It was delicious! Not every shop that offer ube can bring about ube flavor nicely as it is very subtle but they did a great job with it here at Keki. Filling was smooth, mildly sweet but you can definitely get that beautiful ube flavor. The milk cream puff was delicious too. Unfortunately, the pistachio came off with a stronger flavor so it tastes artificial. I’d most likely skip that next time. I passed on getting the bouncy cheesecake this time and ended up choosing their original basque burnt cheesecake! Best decision made that day! The cheesecake was delicious! Creamy but with that “cheesecakey body”, nicely sweetened, soft and smooth. This cake was gone so quick as soon as it reached home! Glad we tried that one out and would love getting another one next time!
Visited Let’s Bounce today a week after their grand opening. I am told the new establishment is under new ownership (formerly Keki’s) but the menu and items are familiar. I tried the former Keki’s years ago and thought it was decent but lacking/needing more cream cheese flavor. So for today’s “new” Let’s Bounce cheesecake I’m making the same verdict - lacking cream cheese flavor and stronger eggy flavor. I’m a fan of Uncle Tesu’s which is actually from Japan but unfortunately we don’t have a location here in the tristate area so I guess Let’s Bounce will have to do - once in a long while that is - mainly due to the price of $18 for a 6”.
It used to be incredible and I would always crave it and picked one up monthly. Ever since Keki changed to Let’s Bounce the cake recipe changed. It’s just mid now. I’m so disappointed and haven’t had one since.
