Opinions de Kitaro Sushi New York
I come here regularly. The Macki combo is awesome and super yummy. Nice fresh dishes. A little cramped but the service is really good!
My go to takeout sushi place on UWS! The price is reasonable and the sushi for 2 deal cannot be beaten.
I often order take out or pick up from Kitaro. Always got my order correctly and the sushi and vegetable tempura always arrive fresh tasting. Veggie tempura is always crispy and hot. Sometimes I'll treat myself and dine-in for lunch or dinner and the food comes out quickly and great tasting and the servers are always polite. Great portion sizes for sushi rolls. My faves are veggie tempura app, salmon avocado roll and shrimp tempura roll. Thanks Kitaro for being a great neighborhood sushi spot. Sincerely, your neighbor.
The food here is amazing! I got the hot ninja roll and it was so full of flavor. My party also got a bottle of Dai Gin Jao platinum Saké, which was so delicious. The service was really good too making recommendations to meet the dietary needs of people I dined with. Overall a great experience.
Delicious and consistent quality in their sushi. They offer a lunch special with three sushi maki rolls and soup for $15 including some premium roll options! They offer dine-in, although I have only done pick up and the staff is always friendly during my wait.
Kitaro was delicious! They have a great selection of rolls, both traditional and specialty. Service was prompt and courteous. It was right in the neighborhood we were staying and is definitely a hole-in-the-wall, but in the best way. The restaurant was quiet and a little dark, but it felt cozy and it was nice to finally eat someplace where it wasn't uncomfortably busy.
Always get take out from here. Their chicken katsu is great. Big portion and their miso soup is the best I’ve ever had.
Kitaro Sushi was great! The sushi was fresh and delicious, and the service was very friendly. The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and relaxing. I definitely would recommend Kitaro Sushi to my friends and family. Now I will often look here.
Kitaro Sushi is my go to every day place. Great quality and great lunch specials that go until 5pm. They also have a number of fairly unique items which I love like rolls with mango in them and tuna pizza (sounds weird but it's good). If you are looking for a casual and delicious local sushi spot, this is definitely one of the best.
Wonderful people, wonderful sushi! They were willing to accommodate us as we only had a short time to eat so we could make it to a show. They were very understanding and got our delicious sushi out very fast.
I had the sushi lunch and it was really good. The fish was fresh. It's a little small and I wouldn't call the staff the friendliest ever but definitely recommend it. I'll be back.
I love this place! The staff is friendly and the food is great. My favorite dish has got to be their chirashi. I highly recommend their special rolls and if you are feeling indulgent, their fatty tuna. The fatty tuna toro just melts in your mouth. Just absolutely divine.
Always my go-to to satisfy urgent sushi cravings. Their rolls are consistently fresh and the price point can't be beat!
A solid mid-scale sushi place, they have great takeout options and a lot of house rolls. I was tempted to give it four stars because the service in the restaurant can be patchy, but they're my favorite place to order from, and as long as you accept that it's a neighborhood joint rather than a fancy restaurant when eating in, the good food and reasonable prices are worth a little patience.
I go there with my girlfriend every week. I tell her this is New York City and there's plenty of options everywhere and she demands we go there. Fellas, you know it's a good idea to keep your woman happy. Am I right? This applies to my fellas on fellas and ladies on ladies too. Everyone loves sushi and if you do, give this place a chance. It's good!
Came here with a friend to eat dinner - can only give the highest of praises!! We ordered several of their appetizers which were all delicious - the flavors were amazing and the plating was absolutely gorgeous. Was more than impressed by all of the dishes we ordered, especially the shrimp and salmon. The rolls were also so fresh and the texture was amazing. I could tell that this restaurant was really popular because so many locals would come to eat and order take out - I even heard that the this place has been run for more than 20 years! The staff were also very friendly and the service was amazing. Would definitely come back and bring lots of friends and family to enjoy! Highly recommend
Nice sushi shop without many people, the salmon was very good although service was a little bit average, not bad
I’ve been going to Kitaro for years. Literally since high school. It’s always been the best sushi in the area. Great rolls and dishes. Special Tuna Tataki and Spicy Tuna Crunch rolls are always crowd pleasers.
Reasonably priced and the best shrimp tempura in Manhattan! Love this place. Great vegetarian options as well.
Forgot just how much I love eating at this place. If you go here for lunch you can I have three rolls for $13 with a soup or salad. Some of the freshest fish you’ll have for a good price
Wonderful quality, good portion sizes especially for the price and location, and attentive service. Our new favorite sushi place!
Quality n comfort... just what you want. Lovely neighborhood spot.

Sat at the bar and enjoyed excellent sashimi and Sake. The tuna is from Japan and the salmon from Norway. My girlfriend then joined me and we shared delicious bluefin tuna, toro scallion, futo maki, and the specialty golden dragon roll. The chef couldn't have been kinder, and the sushi was fresh and quickly served. 10/10.
Charming little place. Always good, fresh sushi. Great atmosphere.
Solid pork katsu, miso soup, tempura, and salmon avocado roll. Definitely a go to for homey japanese food
Kitaro is a special Japanese restaurant here in the Upper West Side that has high-quality fish without being overpriced. We love the simple decor and calm atmosphere that it has and the inviting staff. I highly recommend Kitaro, 5/5!
One of the best local sushi places in UWSn Easy to get a table and the sushi is great. The sushi for two is such a steal
Staff was very freindly and quick Food was great, i had a bento box lunch special, fresh and filling. Restaurant was very clean and calm environment.
Greatest sushi spot in town. High quality fish and fantastic service! Warm atmosphere, very cosy. I love it!

Kitaro Sushi, on the Upper West Side, has been a Japanese staple for me for its outstanding omakase, impeccable service and warm ambience. For 20+ years, the sushi, for the most part, has always been solid. We have dined here dozens of times over the years. For an immersive culinary adventure, secure a spot at the sushi bar downstairs. This establishment is definitely one of the better mid-tier Japanese restaurants in the area.
I come here often with family and friends. This is also my go-to spot to order from for parties. The restaurant serves flavorful, unique dishes and the rolls are fairly priced.
Went here for lunch. The sushi was fresh and reasonably sized. The rice was cooked properly, not too sweet, and not mushy. They didn't have any toro so I tried salmon belly (Herasu), it was delicious! The pork katsu was also really good. It had a nice honey mustard like sauce.
Ordered box C and the perfect roll for delivery. Pros - Overall food very tasty and good portions,Perfect roll was delicious. Food arrived very quickly Cons- got charged $3 for subs (shumai for gyoza) - it seems my allergy comes at premium, no restaurant ever charged me extra for this. Overall happy with the order.
I've been here a number of times, and have always, always enjoyed the food, and atmosphere. Well went there today, but was maybe 5 minutes early. No one was there, I kept saying hello, but to no response. Finally a cook came out and said they will open in 15 minutes, so I said I'll wait. Seemed like it wasn't a problem because he never said anything. Waitress or manager came in and abruptly said to come back in 15 minutes as they have to clean. So I asked to use the restroom, but was informed by the same waitress/manager that they had to clean it. Iv been in it before, never been dirty, but left and decided to come back. Well came back and ordered the bento box, big mistake, by the time I got home my stomach was so upset I barely made it to the bathroom. While on the bus ride home, I felt nauseous, but didn't think much of it. But with the waitress attitude which was very aloof and uncaring and not letting me use the, I certainly had enough hints, NEVER AGAIN, GOOD RIDDANCE Kitaro!!
food is pretty good with acceptably fresh sushi, prices are reasonable. service was pretty good (though they didn't bother to ask if I wanted dessert), and food arrived promptly. nothing to write home about, but a perfectly adequate neighborhood sushi joint.
Great fresh sushi. Went there after a long bike ride in Central park. Place was very clean but washroom is tiny. Only downside is the cold face waitress without any smile. Food was great and nicely presented.
Great place for rolls in UWS. Fish is fresh, rice perfectly cooked and it’s not expansive. The place itself is not pretty or cozy but definitely a go to for a few rolls. Their launch special is also worth a lot :)
Food: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Customer Service: 4 Value: 4 Avg: 4.25 Notes: really cozy shop, sushi is average, charged a dollar more on tuna for some reason
I ordered online and as I went to check out it did not give me an option it completed the transaction and said to pay the driver with cash. I tried to cancel the order by calling the restaurant but it said voicemail had not been set up and then hung up on me. I received a text about the order and texted them back to say that I didn't have the cash and to please cancel and I never received a response.
Neat, quite and calm place to have a decent meal. Food (we had variety of Sushi and sashimi) was good and satisfying. Not over the top, hence the rating. Serving staff were pleasant.
Nothing extraordinary about it except for maybe the number of special roll options available, but quality and prices are okay and the service is friendly. Overall, it's a fine neighborhood sushi shop. Note: The large number of special roll options are presented across several separate menus which can be overwhelming at first.
I was a regular client at kitaro for over six years. I ate there at least twice a week , some weeks every day. Today I went there I ordered food at around 4.30 pm. The sushi man as always nice and friendly. The waitress very rude. The restaurant was empty and she was screaming to someone over the phone by the back table. It was so loud and angry !!! It did not happen the first time. I came to eat there in piece so I asked her if she can lower the volume of her voice because it is really disturbing and not inviting. For which she answer " if you don't like it you can leave outside !! " Well what did I do? I asked the man not to make my food. I walked out and I will never go back. Food ok. Some of the stuff incredibly rude and obnoxious. Do nott recommend.
Sushi was WARM. Then they charged me twice, said the fixed the additional charge. But infact, they never did. I won't be going back, the poor and questionable quality of the fish they used was enough.
Pretty good sushi with cool lunch special prices One lady is very polite and the other one is very rude I called for delivery and I was trying to decide if I wanted anything else and she tells me “speed up , speed up, I got other things to do” Made me almost not want to order anymore ... I hope they understand that without customers they wouldn’t have no business . And I am a regular customer . Maybe she had a bad day but that still is no reason to be rude for someone who is trying to pay for your services....
usually i would rate this place 5 stars, but today when i received my order i didnt get the amount of spicy mayo i ordered. I called them to let them know, and they tell me half of what i originally ordered is enough to much mayo no good for you,If you want you want more mayo I'll give you next time. Usually i get 7+ sushi rolls with multiple people eating I am an adult and your not my parents who are you to tell me how i should eat.
We have six people have lunch there. The old server only let us sit on the four seats table. We have to pull the table by ourselves. For the lunch special, we haven’t received any soup or salad. Pretty bad experience and bad service. The whole store running slow which seems almost closed. Will not come back again.
Extremely rude staff. They act as if they are doing you a favor by serving you or taking your order. Forget delivery service-their delivery person is the rudest person out of all of them. The food is average at best. Tastes like. Supermarket premade sushi. Just avoid it. Several better options in the neighborhood.
Japanese restaurant run by Chinese people. The quality of food is poor. The seaweed was stale and the California roll was just fake crab and avocado with stale seaweed. We ordered the chicken teriyaki and the chicken was not seared or anything. Terrible food and reviews does not warrant a four star rating. More like a two 🌟. Terrible experience. Not recommended.
My lackluster $15 specialty roll was missing ingredients, the white tuna on top was mush, the wasabi had a dark ring on the bottom, and the whole thing tasted like old chapstick. The green iced tea was warm water with matcha powder and a few cubes of ice thrown in.
The first time I’ve ever been served sushi that the fish is warm. When I tried to explain to the server she said she only works here part time and her boss wasn’t here to correct. The boss was too busy in Long Island she stated. Terrible service and food.
