Opinions de L.A. Burdick Handmade Chocolates New York
This was the best hot chocolate I think I've ever had. It was made with so much love and I absolutely loved the atmosphere of this place too. Will definitely be coming back if I'm ever back in Soho!
Many reviews mention the hot chocolate or bars, which are both good, but I think L.A. Burdick really excels with its assorted bonbon boxes. They practically double the count of chocolates for a given weight compared to other chocolatiers, and nearly every piece is unique in a box with few repeats. Everything handmade, everything high quality, everything with an interesting flavor profile. Bravo!
First time exposed to the brand when visiting NYC and trying to find best hot chocolate in town and in the states. Trying multiple of them already, I could confidently call out LA Burdick certainly made it to the podium serving thick and rich quality chocolate with options of sweetness and creaminess adjustable to your preference. The price might indeed be quite steep but it’s worth the tag for what you sipped. During winter time especially Christmas holiday, you’d find the venue packed with people both locals and tourists. It’s not that huge but cutely designed to give that warm hug in the cold ambiance. They did carry chocolate bars and desserts to enjoy with your warm cup.
We love the place! Everything that we had was delicious. The chocolate chip cookies are amazing. The Burdick mocha was one of the best coffees that we’ve had during our travels. You can’t go wrong with the caramel latte either. We went twice during our stay. I would make a trip to Chicago just to go to this chocolate store. Bailey was very friendly and personable. We enjoyed talking to her.
My favorite chocolate spot in SoHo! Every time I’m in SoHo, I make sure to stop by this place — it’s hands down my go-to for chocolate. Their hot chocolate is on another level. It’s made by grinding real chocolate, not just mixing cocoa powder, so the flavor is incredibly rich and deep. You can choose from dark, milk, or white chocolate — each one is delicious in its own way. Of course, all of their chocolates are amazing, but I highly recommend trying the hot chocolate. It’s a must!
This place is really good, their chocolate is super high quality and professionally made. I tried the chocolate praline with hazelnut which was delicious. I also took their chocolate chip cookies which were delicious, one of the best I’ve ever had. They are made with good quality dark chocolate and walnuts and is absolutely delicious! I highly recommend. Also- for those of you who like dark hot chocolate, theirs is one of the best out there!
The chocolates and desserts are so beautiful and delicious, but unfriendly service and high price point relative to the tiny size of the items detracts from this. Would not recommend as a spot to sit down and eat, but a fun splurging stop along your way through the neighborhood, or as a place to buy a nice gift for someone.
Unfortunately this was the best dairy free hot chocolate I’ve ever had. Took off a star because I realized the chocolate chip cookie had nuts only after ordering it, and they wouldn’t let me get something else instead (I’m allergic). Mind you, I hadn’t even touched the cookie at this point.
The chocolates are great and cookies are good, I didn’t have the pleasure of having any drinks that they make. The only real drawback and the reason I wouldn’t give it 5 stars, is the ridiculously high prices for what you actually get.
I have mostly been lucky that when I've been in the shop I've gotten chocolates and baked goods that were very fresh. While the chocolates taste good, you don't necessarily taste all the ingredients (fruits, spices, etc) that they say are in them. I agree the service is... strange, etc. Years ago, when they were in their flatiron location, they had fantastic single origin hot chocolate drinks, made super thick and served in espresso cups. The people that worked there were very skilled and knowledgeable. Their current location does not make these drinks anymore and they don't have such skilled staff. I've also gotten stuff shipped from their headquarters. That has mostly gone well. I did have one experience in 2024 of their Easter Egg collection (chocolate "eggs" with different fillings) and some didn't contain the correct fillings. I emailed them about this. The email was ignored so I sent another one. They dismissed the whole thing and emailed back some marketing sentence about how they make their chocolates. So ridiculous.
L.A. Burdik offers a luxurious chocolate experience with a level of sophistication that’s hard to beat. The atmosphere is clean and elegant, setting the perfect stage for indulging in their exceptional chocolates. We ordered the drinkable dark chocolate—it was smooth, rich, and truly special. However, I only gave 4 stars because the customer service could use improvement; the staff seemed a bit distant and could be more attentive. On a positive note, the place is fully equipped to accommodate customers in wheelchairs, making it accessible to all. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot for chocolate lovers, just hoping for better service next time.
It's so small in there but it's essentially a chocolate shop, so that's understandable. It was such a nice experience. The shop might've been tiny but it was lovely. Very beautiful with the lights. The service was excellent. The ladies were so nice and friendly. I really liked my Burdick Blend Dark Hot Chocolate (though, to be honest, I've had better). The Chocolate Mousse Cake was good. The mousse part was excellent but the cake base was dry. I did enjoy myself overall and would recommend it to any hot chocolate lover.
The products are amazing, the hot chocolate is the best in nyc. But the seating arrangement is very poor ( one table ) and the manager interactions I have always leave a bad taste in my mouth. I am not sure the lady is the owner but I always feel unwelcomed and that my questions are stupid. This place has so much more potential I wish ownership took care of it better
The place is nice and the hot chocolate is good. But I'm removing 2 stars because the guy taking the order was soo rude, he should not be working in customer service. Experience on 12/31 evening.
The dark chocolate hot chocolate was just okay — I’ve had better elsewhere. The staff was kind, though the manager’s tone felt a bit off. I tend to return to places where the service feels warm. FYI … I went there based on a review in the Post…makes me question validity of those kinds of reviews.
Customer service leaves much to be desired. In fact you can't describe the older woman who was working when I visited as anything other than rude. I've frequented this location many times, and the products are delicious. Even if there's a long line, I will wait and be patient as I know employees are trying their best and I'm not usually in any rush. But the attitude, shoving, and unprofessionalism I encountered from the staff forced me to walk out, and I haven't been back since.
I have loved this place ever since it started on my block in the Flatiron way before Covid.. it’s fun to visit among all the mega shopping that is now SoHo NYC… unfortunately I won’t be going back any time soon - when I went last Friday - it was a cold day and the tables (only 2) inside were filled… I said I’d wait…. & tried to order my usual Large single bean of the day hot chocolate - the server said I couldn’t order ….. I did anyway & decided to sit outside in the cold…. I noticed that the 2 people occupying 4+ seats were “camped out” (forever) As if it were a Starbucks … I’d recommend to Burdicks to have a time MAX on tables esp if a person is “nursing” a tiny hot chocolate & typing on their laptop…… sorry…..but get some appropriate signage for your customers expectation ally if some of them have no consideration for others ….. you’ve lost a Fan
★★☆☆☆ Good Drinks, Friendlier Service at the DMV The drinks themselves are genuinely good. The hot dark chocolate is solid, and the white hot chocolate is excellent and easily the highlight. Unfortunately, nearly everything else detracts from the experience. The seating situation is frustrating: although there is an additional table and chair, they are kept behind the pastry display and not made available to customers, leaving effectively just one table and one chair for use. This makes it difficult to enjoy your drink on site. Service is the main issue. One employee consistently seems irritated by any client interaction, and this is not a one-off experience. My husband and I visited the shop last week and were treated the same way. During this visit, my husband was rudely told to order at the other counter while he was simply reading the menu. My sister experienced the same response when she tried to place an order. To top it off, my father found a chair off to the side so my mother could sit while we waited, only to be told curtly that the chair could only be used outside, despite it being winter, no one sitting outdoors, and the chair already being inside. Between the rigid rules, the repeated rudeness, and the overall tone, the experience felt less like a cozy café and more like ordering hot chocolate at the DMV. Good drinks alone aren’t enough to overcome the consistently unfriendly service, which keeps this at two stars.
LA Burdick Handmade Chocolates is no longer under the ownership of its original founder. The present owner, Yoon Chang, has chosen not to uphold the Black Friday Sale for gifts that are ordered for December 2025, despite having previously confirmed the discount. Is this an appropriate business practice?
I visited one of my favorite hot chocolate places today, excited to order my usual milk chocolate. Unfortunately, the experience I had at the Prince Soho location was unbelievably disappointing and downright disrespectful. While placing my order, I was briefly distracted by a phone call and accidentally said “white chocolate” instead of “milk chocolate.” As soon as I realized the mistake—and knowing I’m allergic to white chocolate—I politely asked the sales associate if she could make it milk chocolate instead. I hadn’t touched the cup, and it wasn’t even handed to me yet. She looked at me as if I was asking for something unreasonable and told me I would have to pay for a whole new cup because it was “company policy.” I asked to speak with a manager, hoping for some understanding, but what I got was a shockingly rude woman who immediately began raising her voice at me. She bluntly repeated that she would not make a new cup, even though I never picked up the original one and couldn’t drink it due to my allergy. The unprofessionalism and lack of basic customer service were unbelievable. I was so frustrated and disappointed that I walked out and left the drink behind without receiving a refund or even an apology. I will never be returning to this Prince Soho location. The store manager was extremely rude, and the way the situation was handled was completely unacceptable. This used to be one of my favorite places, but after this experience, I’m done.
