Opinions de Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar New York
Really enjoyed having dinner at this restaurant. We had some very tasty starters, including the mackerel which came as sashimi first, and then returned to the table after frying the dish bones..... nice and crispy! This was followed by delightful brown rice, prepped and flavoured with bone marrow. And then the sushi.... wow.... super fresh and so delicate! My favourites were the scallop sashimi and the salmon Nigeria with truffle!
We just had one of those rare dining experiences that makes you want to write a review on the spot. Blue Ribbon inside the Six Columbus Hotel is nothing short of phenomenal. Every dish we tried was a standout, starting with their legendary fried chicken appetizer. Juicy, crunchy, and with just the right kick of spice, it set the tone for the rest of the meal. We moved on to the wagyu gyoza, which was rich and savory, and the oxtail fried rice that was simply unforgettable. Add in the ginger-glazed ribs, a perfectly shared wagyu steak platter, and a lineup of fresh sushi that made my son’s evening, and you have a feast worth savoring. Drinks were just as stellar. The lychee martinis were a hit, the yuzu margarita was a revelation, and even the ginger sour mocktails delivered big on flavor. The ambiance and service, thanks in part to our fantastic server Air, and Andrew on her team made the evening truly memorable. In short, this was easily one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Manhattan. Blue Ribbon is a must-visit, and we’ll definitely be back.
Excellent experience and high quality sushi. We ordered the baked clam appetizer which was fantastic! My husband and I both enjoyed the sushi (10) platters and tuna rolls we selected as well. Some of our favorite sushi were the mackerel, salmon, sea bream and fatty tuna. The service is fantastic and relaxing ambiance was refreshing in the bustling city.
My 9 year old son and I first came here 2 years ago from the Philly area, and we loved it so much we made a trip back to NYC just to eat here again. The staff is all friendly and attentive. The menu isn’t huge, but I’m ok with that because it means they do a better job with fewer items. The sushi is all top notch, very fresh ingredients and super tasty.
Sushi and delux nice. Good quality sashimi. Oxtail ramen hit the spot for cold weather. Dessert also good to share. Service attentive. Decor inside hotel somewhat dark. And booth seats in middle bit wobbly to lean back, but overall consistent ambiance.
Exquisite Sushi restaurant. Their food was top notch. We loved all the sushi dishes, their seafood soup, salad and rolls. But their best dish was the Bone Marrow. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommended
Went because of a recommendation for the oxtail fried rice, would love to go again to try other items. Dim and cozy setting. Ordered - dynamite, blue ribbon roll, oxtail fried rice. After the app and roll were served we were wondering if there would be enough food but the fried rice is rich and extremely filling.
Worth the hype, I got the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls with cucumber. Both were phenomenal, the fish is fresh and the staff clearly knows what they’re doing. Tucked away in a hotel, this Blue Ribbon location makes the perfect date spot. Your taste buds will be sure to thank you later.
Excellent sushi. The best I’ve had so far in NYC. The chefs prepare the food in front of customers in the dining area at the rear of the restaurant. The platters are consistently good. And there is a fabulous selection of Saké. Very friendly and helpful staff. We went for my daughter’s graduation celebration. They very kindly offered us a delicious desert. The server, named Air, was charming and welcoming.
Happened upon this place in search of some good NYC sushi and found NYC’s best Sushi. We didn’t have much time to enjoy Blue Ribbon, but I definitely will find my way back. I only had the Dragon roll, and a beer. But I have to say it was fresh land very hearty. Beautifully presented. Our server who was behind the bar was just as attentive as a table server would be. I would highly recommend a reservation, even though we felt very welcomed to sit by the bar and enjoy.
This place is a hidden gem inside a hotel, but don't let that fool you. The vibe inside is cozy and elegant, and the sushi is out of this world. You can tell they use only the freshest and highest quality fish, as each bite melts in your mouth and bursts with flavor. The presentation is also stunning, with colorful and creative dishes that make you want to take a picture before you dig in. The menu is not your typical sushi place, as they offer some other cooked options that are equally delicious. I loved the crispy rice with ahi tuna, the popcorn shrimp, and the cauliflower tempura. If you want to splurge, the Blue Ribbon Roll with lobster and the spicy crab roll are phenomenal options. They are pricey, but worth every penny. The service is very fast and efficient, even when the place gets busy. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they make sure you have a great experience. I definitely recommend making a reservation, as this place is very popular and can get crowded. This is one of my favorite sushi places in NYC, and I can't wait to go back. If you are looking for a place to treat yourself or impress someone, this is it. You won't regret it.
I had start off sushi (forgot name) and fried dumplings. Both were good. Then i had oxtail fried rice with fried chicken. I didn’t think they was going bring me a half chicken fried ! I promise you those oxtail fried rice with the fried chicken is the bomb ! My girl had order a fish that came raw with like the head cut (don’t really eat raw stuff) and they took it back and switch it for her, for half a chicken. If I was to be able give them another star for that I would. That was great service and we truly appreciate you guys for doing that for us !!
Runnnnn don't walk!!! This place is hands down the best to ever do it. I especially love the oxtail fried rice *chef's kiss* and the grilled avocado. I need to try more items but I just cannot get past my two faves.
Came here with a friend and had the house salad with carrot ginger dressing, the fried oyster roll and tempura shrimp roll and the fried rice. All the food was extremely delicious and excellent quality. They timed the food perfectly and were very kind and attentive. I have been here multiple times and every time it is consistent and always want more food but sandly cannot eat more food.
I brought my two daughters here for dinner recently, one of them loves Sushi, the other is a bit picky. We had sushi and the grilled half chicken and all was absolutely phenomenal. It was a highlight of our visit to NYC. Our server was the epitome of NY cool, in the best way possible. I come here every time I'm in NYC, it's just so dependable. Also, the music is great but not too loud. 10/10.
Our go-to sushi spot in NYC. Outstanding fish alawys. Not cheap but high quality. Great atmosphere as well. Grab incredible gelato afterward right around the corner at Rivareno!
Great sushi restaurant. I enjoy the pickled vegetable plate. the eggplant was a delight. the escarole had a lot of depth of flavor. The spinach in sesame was a starter I'd go back for again. It is pricey, however the sushi and sashimi are of great quality and are well crafted. The atmosphere is great. Compact and lively.
We had an incredible experience at Blue Ribbon this last Saturday. Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. It was clear that a lot of care and attention goes into the food, and it truly stood out. On top of that, the service at Blue Ribbon was amazing—friendly, attentive, and welcoming without ever making us feel rushed. The staff really made us feel taken care of, which elevated the entire experience even more. Overall, the food was outstanding, the service was excellent.
This place is memorable! We've gone to other sushi houses and have even forgotten their name. Not Blue Ribbon. Definitely this location over the others though. I don't know how, but the food flavors quality remain the same year after the year, it's impressive. We've been coming here for 16 years and the food we get is equally as phenomenal as the first time. No, not your quick grab some sushi lunch joint. Don't come here for that. No, this is not value in quantity for your money. Come here for the value of the quality, which is extraordinary.
Better than Nobu! They’ve been serving the freshest and most interesting Japanese cuisine here since 1995. Step inside the nondescript entrance and leave your worries behind because a sublime culinary adventure is about to begin! The combination of flavorful dishes, relaxed atmosphere, and genuine hospitality made this a standout visit, and I will definitely keep it on my short list of places to recommend and revisit whenever I’m in the area again
An incredible sushi restaurant! We were very satisfied with our dinner and highly recommend visiting this place. The atmosphere is relaxed and calm, with excellent and attentive service. The fish is fresh, and every sushi piece we tried was packed with flavor. We ordered the Sushi&Sashimi Combination along with the Spicy Tuna roll, and also added the Sakana San Shu roll. Every bite was absolutely delicious.
Jack took great care of us and he was a breath of fresh air full of great energy! The food itself was super fresh and tasty. Classy vibe here as well, good for small or big groups.

Outrageously amazing sushi! Had the KANPACHI USUZUKURI appetizer and SUSHI PLATTER. Pricey......but you get what you pay for. You won't be sorry. Add the Plum wine!
I’m relatively inexperienced when it comes to Sushi, but this was authentic and an amazing dining experience. Staff could not have been more helpful!

Too quality sushi; excellent service; Great location on Sullivan Street. The sushi and sashimi platter was just excellent. Good wine list to complement the food. I would recommend unreservedly.
At Blue Ribbon Sushi Restaurant, classic Japanese dishes are served à la carte, either at the sushi bar or in the authentic tatami rooms, which offer a great deal of privacy. The quality and flavor were outstanding, and the freshness of the fish convinced me again and again—so much so that we ended up dining there every evening. Unfortunately, this quality also comes at a price. At around $80 per person, it is not cheap, but the excellent service and the exceptional food fully justify the cost.
Across the board the service and food is always very good! Excellent cocktails, bourbon and wine lists. They have a wide variety of sushi. Don't like sushi...the you have to try their Fried Chicken it's outstanding.
It was good Everthing was fresh, wings were fresh but bland.I guess thats just the Japanese way of cooking wings. I enjoyed it. The atmosphere was very depressing. The bathrooms dirty and smelly.
Great place, excellent sushi, service is kind. Fantastic place for Japanese eating. Service and food get 5 stars because it’s very expensive compared to other similar sushi options. If you don’t mind the check, 100% worth a visit.
This is a very nice, intimate and cozy sushi restaurant in Soho where you have to go downstairs in the basement. The sushi was very flavorful and well presented. The miso soup was so good that it will definitely help to get rid of any cold that you have. We will definitely be back to try more sushi!!!

sushi rol medium quality. sushi is very very good. we bought 3 types of sushi 4 types of sushi roll a glass of white wine and one creme brulee as dessert. We paid 141 dollars.
Recent visit the Japanese snapper was so bad had to spit it out and the eel was so rubbery you couldn’t chew it, had to spit that out too. Restaurant gave us a free dessert to make up that we didn’t want. This was two bad visits in a row so we won’t be back for a while. Been here several times lately and the food has been invariably excellent. Also great service and atmosphere. The standard sushi deluxe is the way to go, but their new and improved menu also includes some excellent items like salmon teriyaki and oxtail fried rice. The wine choices are very good. Service is pleasant and despite the lack of windows the main dining area is beautiful and well ventilated. Continue to eat here on a regular basis. The sushi is generally excellent but occasionally very bad. The non-sushi dishes like the fried chicken are decent but not great. The edemame is amazing we almost always get it. The profiterole dessert they have is outstanding, possibly the best ever. We’ve been ordering it almost every time. The Yuzu non-alcoholic beer is amazing and worth it.
There is no management here. The servers are all in the corner chatting and having fun. The sushi chefs dont look up, so ordering from them is first an “excuse me!” I expected the food to be as unprofessional as the service but it was not. It was quite good. The oxtail miso was amazing. Loved it. The sashimi otoro and the salmon belly and the tofu agadashi were also good. Even the sake was good. I had to pour the sake myself, which is unusual for a Japanese restaurant. I also cleared the plates and moved them to the side so I could continue eating. This means that there is no floor management. If I were trying to make money as an owner here i would put a manager here tomorrow. It’s a shame that such good food is served by such poorly trained servers with no oversight.
I came to Blue Ribbon Sushi about two years ago and had an amazing experience — a big sushi platter that cost around $200 and felt well worth it. I recently went back for a quick date night, and while the food was still good, the prices have gotten insanely high. I know inflation is real, but this felt pretty extreme. We ordered the crispy rice with spicy tuna, the Hamachi Serrano, two pieces of otoro sushi, the Unadon, plus one basic bottle of hot sake. The total came out to about $180 including tip, which honestly blew my mind given how little food we actually got. The otoro sushi especially was disappointing — each piece was around $18, and the slice of fish on top was tiny. It didn’t taste bad, but for that price, I expected something more memorable. Overall, the food was decent but definitely not worth what we paid — and I left still feeling hungry. On the positive side, the service was excellent. The staff was super attentive and managed to seat us last minute even though the place was fully booked. The restaurant itself is small, cozy, and great for a date night, but I’d just say be prepared to spend a lot more than you’d expect. In short, the food is fine, the vibe is nice, but the prices are over the top for what you get. I wouldn’t recommend it for a casual dinner unless you’re ready to splurge.

Went in solo for lunch. Was seated at the sushi bar, not in front of the glass cases but at the end looking down the prep counter. Ordered a Crispy Salmon Roll which was good. As I’m finishing my roll, the chef in front of me starts coughing directly on the prep counter. Doesn’t cover his mouth, no gloves, The chef next to him gives him “the look” also looks at me knowing what I had just seen. Luckily I notice that my roll was made by the chef at the other end of he prep area. I immediately asked to move and told the server what I had observed. They seated me in a booth but still within sight of the sushi bar. As I sat here drinking my tea, planning to order something else. But what I was witnessing was disturbing. The chef was obviously not well. Was leaning over the prep area, wiping his eyes and nose, no gloves and never washed his hand. I had enough, asked for my check. Was brought my check but immediately someone came over and told me my bill was comped. I again mentioned that it was very disturbing. In all that time I was there no one said anything to him. Usually I don’t do real negative reviews but this one I couldn’t let go.
As soon as I entered, I could see how base and plebeian the decor was. I waited for fifteen minutes for someone to come and take my armadillo-skin coat. They never came. I requested fresh orca roll…
I just left Blue Ribbon Sushi NYC completely disappointed — and still hungry. I paid $57 for food that wasn’t worth half of it. The menu is confusing, with no clear prices, and shrimp tempura wasn’t even listed. When it came, it was just four tiny pieces for $18 — bland, forgettable, and definitely not fresh. But the worst part was the rude service. I politely asked the waiter if I could charge my phone, and he disappeared. When he finally came back, instead of being helpful, he said, “So, are you ordering more or not?” That attitude alone ruined the experience. No warmth, no hospitality — just a feeling that I was an inconvenience for not ordering fast enough. I only went there because Sushi Lin across the street doesn’t have a full kitchen at this location — I really wish they did. I would have had a better meal and much better service. Overall: Overpriced sushi, unfriendly staff, terrible customer service, and poor value. If you’re in NYC and want good sushi, skip Blue Ribbon Sushi — there are far better options nearby that actually care about their customers.
