Dominique Ansel Bakery is a true landmark of modern pastry and a must-visit for anyone who appreciates creativity combined with technical perfection. Far beyond the fame of the Cronut, the bakery consistently delivers desserts that are imaginative, beautifully crafted, and impeccably balanced in flavor. Every item reflects precision, originality, and respect for high-quality ingredients. The pastries are refined without being pretentious, inventive without losing elegance. Even the simpler offerings feel thoughtfully designed, showcasing why Dominique Ansel remains one of the most influential pastry chefs of his generation. The atmosphere is welcoming and vibrant, and despite its global recognition, the bakery maintains a sense of authenticity and excellence. Dominique Ansel Bakery isn’t just a trendy stop — it’s a benchmark for contemporary pastry, fully deserving of its iconic status.
The photos speak for themselves! Dominique Ansel Bakery had some unique flavors to offer. The cronut flavor for this month was summer berry and it blew my mind. It was so fresh and natural while being light. Absolutely lovely combination. The DKA or hybrid croissants are absolutely delicious. Can't go here without trying them. The classic pastries are well done, and fresh to order madelienes were heavenly. Highly recommend this place for a good pastry fix. little pricey but you're absolutely paying for top quality ingredients. Highly recommend.
Everyone raves about the cronut—and while it absolutely deserves the hype, Dominique Ansel Bakery offers so much more. This was my second visit, and I love it even more than the first time. Two standout items you must try are the Chocolate Chip Shot served with creamy warm milk and the consistently perfect croissant. The Chocolate Chip Shot is indulgent and playful, while the croissant is a masterpiece. If you cut it in half, you'll notice how perfectly centered and mirrored it is—flaky, buttery, and moist in every bite. The bakery has also undergone some wonderful changes since my last visit. A year ago, there were only a few tables at the front and along the hallway, making it feel more like a grab-and-go spot. Now, they've expanded to include inviting back patio rooms, creating a lovely space to sit and enjoy your pastries right away. The only drawback? A few tables were left messy by previous customers, which detracts from the otherwise charming atmosphere. All in all, Dominique Ansel Bakery continues to exceed expectations, and I can’t wait to return to try even more of their delicious offerings.
Dominique Ansel Bakery is the one spot we always want to revisit when we’re in SoHo—it’s simply unforgettable! Our last visit was in 2019, and we’ve been talking about it ever since. This month, we treated ourselves to their monthly flavour cronut, The Dulce de Leche with Gingerbread Ganache, and it was absolutely exquisite. The buttery, flaky layers combined with the rich, creamy dulce de leche filling and the perfectly spiced gingerbread ganache made for a comforting, cozy treat that’s just right for the season. We couldn’t resist sampling a variety of other pastries, and every single one was exceptional. Enjoying our treats in the relaxed back garden area—a peaceful and charming oasis—made the experience even more special. This bakery is a must-visit when you’re in SoHo. We can’t wait to return, and hopefully, it won’t be too long!
Dominique Ansel Bakery in SoHo is the ultimate destination for pastry lovers, blending inventive confections with cozy, chic charm. It’s the birthplace of iconic treats like the now-legendary Cronut®—a croissant‑doughnut hybrid that rocked the food world in 2013 and sparked a craze that still resonates. But that’s just the beginning. Chef Ansel’s menu reads like dessert poetry: think DKA (Dominique's Kouign Amann) with its golden caramel crust and flaky, gooey center, the playful Cookie Shot served with creamy milk, and festive treats like the seasonal Mini‑Me Cake, which layers multiple textures of chocolate for a bite bursting with delight. Reviews rave about the precision behind each creation—the DKA is “so buttery, flaky, sweet and layered so well,” while first-timers often describe the Cronut experience as unforgettable.
This is the best flavor Cronut they have ever made. Mango purée with a condensed milk ganache with a sweet cream. A nice yeast donut with layers but had the texture of a brioche bun. It was also coated in sugar crystals. This specific flavor of Cronut needs to be on the menu twice a year or make it a staple item for the summer months.
We expected to wait in this bakery's line for an hour. We were thankful to show up and only have to wait for about 10 minutes! The staff was wonderful and inviting - open to all questions and to make the experience memorable. We ordered too much and were a bit sweeted-out but it was very worth it. The cookies and milk shots were FRESH and the milk was from Madagascar or something. They were delicious and fun! Their croissant doughnut of the month was very good and unique, although it was filled and I'm not a filled doughnut kind of girl. The toasted s'more put on a show and was tasty, too! This place was worth the stop and would definitely go again! Thank you for everything!
This place is so so good. I highly recommend the treats here, not too sweet and so fresh. The wait may be a while but so worth it. I like how they have ‘treat of the day’. The hot chocolate to me was a 8/10. Macadamia cookie 10/10 macroons too. The staff is so friendly and I appreciated the seating they had in the back.
The photos speak for themselves this place is amazing. In a city full of bakeries and the same carbon copy recipies, Dominique Ansel Bakery had some unique flavors to offer. The corssiant donuts are not new, but theirs packs a flavorful punch. The classic pastries are well done, and the cookie cup with milk is great for cookie lovers, but for me, it was okay. The other pieces we tried were really good. Highly recommend this place for a good pastry fix.
Everything I love about Dominique Ansel Bakery: The March Cronut (Apricot Jam with Brown Sugar Orange Caramel Ganache) The mini Madeleins The service The decor The garden seating area I walked in around 1pm on a Friday and there was a bit of a line, but it moved quickly and gave me time to think about what I wanted to order. I went with the cronut, which changes flavor monthly, and while I was skeptical about how much I personally would enjoy the flavor profile, it was divine. It had just the right amount of everything good and left me feeling satisfied but not over-sugared. I also got the 10 piece mini Madeleins and they were delicious and gone far too soon. I sat in the garden seating, which is in a greenhouse type space and oh so cute. The walls of artificial roses and string lights give it the cutest feel and the perfect backdrop for food photos. There are tables that can seat up to 4, so bring some friends next time you visit. There's also limited indoor seating with small tables for 1 or 2.
The pastries are perfectly baked. Seemed like everyone was getting a cronut and many (including myself) got the cookie shot too. The cookie shot is a fun cool thing, but I wouldn’t get it for the cookie or the milk. The cookie is baked harder than a gourmet cookie because it needs to be stronger to hold the shot. It’s lined with chocolate to keep the milk from seeping out until you drink it. It would be awesome if they would put an espresso shot in there! The cronut is good too, I recommend trying it. There were so many delicious looking pastries, I hope to come back to try more. Oh, and the guy serving us was the most friendly cheerful guy, that just made the experience much better.
Open at 8 am. Best Organic Natural Pastry of New York Filled Raspberrys in a pistachio creme. Spacious open Space with a back patio inside a greengouse with birds flying around. Excellent Tea and coffee hot and cold drinks. Assorted cookies, macarons, Crosaint Donut. Really price worth
Dominique Ansel Bakery is a must-visit for any pastry lover in NYC. While the cronut is their claim to fame, don't let it overshadow the other incredible offerings. My recent visit proved that the hype is real, and then some. While the cronut was indeed delicious, the true stars were the triple pesto and the almond croissant – both bursting with flavor and perfectly executed. The pain au chocolat was another standout, rich and buttery. Beyond the pastries, the coffee was surprisingly excellent, a perfect complement to the sweet treats. The ambiance added to the experience. The seating area, a mix of indoor and a cleverly designed semi-outdoor space (comfortably heated during the colder months), provided a relaxing and enjoyable environment to savor every bite. While the cronut may draw the crowds, exploring the rest of the menu at Dominique Ansel Bakery is a truly rewarding culinary adventure. Be prepared for lines, but trust me, it's worth the wait.
I couldn't gush more about this place. The desserts are absolutely incredible, but what I loved even more was the staff. Every single person was super friendly and went above and beyond. As a muslim, I can't consume Alcohol or have gelatin. When the staff saw me, they made sure to let me know that the cookie shot contained vanilla milk, which could have traces of Alcohol, and substituted whole milk instead. They also kindly let me know that the cronut contained fish gelatin. I was so shocked by how aware the staff was of my dietary restrictions and truly appreciated their effort. I would definitely visit again.
The bakery was bustling with people, which makes sense given its worldwide reputation. Even with the crowd, everything was super organized, and the service moved quickly and smoothly. The staff was genuinely friendly and made us feel welcome. There's a cozy little seating area in the back where you can sit and enjoy your treats—and wow, they were an easy 11/10. YUM! We tried the cronut of the month, the raspberry tart, and the double chocolate pecan cookie. Each one was absolutely delicious! 🍩🥐🍪🍓🍫
This bakery is an absolute treat for pastry lovers! They offer an outstanding variety of patisserie, and our favorites were the famous cookie shot and the cronut – both worth every bit of their reputation. The flavors were creative, perfectly balanced, and clearly made with the highest quality ingredients. It’s no wonder the place is so popular; we did have to wait in a long line, and finding a table was tricky. However, the deliciousness made it all worth it. If you’re willing to brave the wait, you’re in for a memorable treat. Highly recommend!
I was excited to come here, as they've been famous for the cronut for years. They have a nice selection of pastries, cookies, ice cream sandwiches and more. They have a really cool dessert, a cookie shot, a Cookie shaped into an oblong shape, filled with milk. The filling for the cronut is changed monthly. This month it was an apple filling. I didn't think I would like the cronut, but I did. It was delicious!
I can't even explain how much we enjoyed Dominique Ansel Bakery! First of all, the Cronut... I have never had a donut or anything that was as amazing! The outside was soft but chewy with an iced glaze, and the inside was filled with a silky smooth cream and a tangy semi sweet mango filling. The inner dough was a little chewy as well, with a buttery texture. And then there was the Ham & Cheese Crossaint. The exterior shell was crispy and light, with the interior so buttery and soft - it almost melts in your mouth! Add just the right amount of ham and cheese, and you have the perfect hand-held breakfast. The Chocolate Chip Cookie was delicious as well. The cookie was cooked firm on the outside but remained soft and a little undercooked on the inside - just the way I like! Also, the Cookie was only slightly sweet, which was a surprise. Overall, everything was a little pricey, but absolutely worth it!
Let me start by saying that I'm French so I'm fairly picky when it comes to bakeries. I tried the raspberry pistachio tart and cannelé de Bordeaux. The cannelé was delicious, both in terms of taste and texture, very authentic. The raspberry tart was also really good and not overly sweet, the sweetness came mainly from the raspberries which balanced the creaminess of the pistachio ganache. There is a covered garden in the back with plenty of sitting. I came here on a (rainy) Saturday afternoon and I didn't have to wait to find a seat. Bathroom is also available. I will definitely come back to try other desserts and get some more cannelés!
THE BEST BAKERY IN NYC. Locals and tourists flock here, and this place is worth the hype. Price reflects quality, and the cronut is a must, especially if you like the month's featured flavor. There is open seating in the back, friendly staff. There wasn't a wait on a spring Monday morning. Just plan ahead if you're visiting the weekends for a long wait. Enjoy!
We stayed out in the cold on a busy Sunday in December for about 10 min to get in and let me tell you, it was worthwhile. I has their Toasted coconut chocolate croissant which was yummy. The place was filled with freshly baked goods and nice hot hot drinks which is very satisfying and soothing on a cold winter night.
It started with butterflies as we pulled up to the bakery. We walked in and were warmly welcomed. I have wanted to visit for years so choosing the right pastries felt challenging, but we were guided and given suggestions. I decided on 6 pastries, some breakfast, coffee and some packaged treats for gifts. We sat down in the garden and ate breakfast. It felt magical and the perfect way to end our trip to NYC. Everyone was so kind. As for the pastries, I don't know if I have the words. My eyes got wider with every bite and I know this food memory will last forever.
Finally had a chance to visit this wonderful bakery. Was not crowded in the morning on Friday or Monday. Sweet potato and brown sugar cronut of the month (Oct 2024) was great and is a rather light flavor. I expect they’re all pretty great in their own way. DKA ended up being one of our favorite items especially when they’re fresh. Flaky and sugary on the outside with pockets thicker areas in the middle. Very good! I would also highly recommend the cookie shot which is warmed to order and the vanilla milk is tasty! Perfect little egg sandwich isn’t as little as you would think. Comes on a pretty standard sized brioche hamburger bun. This was better than the spinach quiche in my opinion. It was very light and fluffy. Quiche on the other hand has a light and flaky crust. Strawberries and cream pavlova looked like a fun item to try but it wasn’t my favorite. Even though it wasn’t my favorite, it was still pretty tasty. Chocolate croissant was super chocolaty. Chocolate strips inside as well as weaves throughout the lamination. Wish I had tome to try all the pastries!
This Bakery was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to New York! Crumpets were phenomenal, I ordered the special that had a strawberry cream filling (that I absolutely loved!) but there’s plenty of options available and they all look delicious. Coffee was great as well and they had veggie milks available. Perfect place for a to go order, but definitely worth staying for a while as the place is really cozy and beautiful.
Places that go viral are often a bit disappointing, but I've always found this actually lives up to the hype. Any nice bakery won't be cheap, but as long as it's within your budget it's a really nice treat. The cronuts are always tasty, and the have lots of other nice treats. The cookie shot is the only thing that didn't live up to the hype (the chocolate lining doesn't let the cookie soak in the milk like I wish it could) but they have so many great things. And I'm waiting until Christmas morning for the specialty cereal, but I have high hopes! I was on the fence, but they have really good and friendly staff who talked me into buying it.
Visited Dominique Ansel Bakery in NYC and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We bought the Sticky Toffee Pudding Buche de Noel and a Cronut, and both were incredible. The Buche de Noel was rich, moist, and perfectly balanced—not overly sweet, with amazing texture and flavor. The Cronut was flaky, fresh, and indulgent, clearly made with a lot of care.
My husband and I would try random items at least once a month and we honestly never had a bad item from the menu, even the spinach quiche is 👌🏽. I guess the turnover of items contributes to the freshness and quality of the selections that they have available for the day. must visit? yes! make it a part of your routine? definitely! ☺️
Dominique Ansel Bakery in Soho continues to live up to the hype. I popped in for a quick treat and left completely delighted. The almond croissant had just come out of the oven about an hour earlier and was honestly perfection—crispy on the outside, delicately layered, and filled with rich almond paste that wasn’t overly sweet. Every bite had that just-right balance of texture and flavor. A special shoutout to Chapel, who went above and beyond. I mentioned loving the extra toasted almond bits that fall off the top, and without missing a beat, she added a handful to my bag. That small, thoughtful gesture made my visit feel personal and warm. Great pastries, even better service—I’ll definitely be back.
Dominique Ansel Bakery is a MUST-VISIT! 🥐☕️ Yes, the lines outside can be a bit wild ⏳, but trust me, it's worth the wait! Their coffee drinks are top-notch 💯, a perfect start to any pastry adventure. And the 🥐 🍩 Cronut? 🤯 Lives up to the hype – a flaky, creamy dream! Their other pastries are equally divine, each a little work of art. Surprisingly, their Cuban 🥪 sandwich was also a standout - savory and satisfying! 👍 The vibe inside is bustling and energetic ✨. It can get a little crowded, but the staff are friendly and efficient. Accessibility-wise ♿, it's located in a pretty walkable area except near where the pastry case is. They do have decent patio and indoor seating with 🚻. Just be prepared for a potential queue – it's a testament to how delicious everything is! 😋
Can't say enough about how friendly and kind their staffs are. Beautiful, beautiful place. You dont realize it until you walk all the way to the back and you see an oasis. Plenty of sitting areas for you to enjoy indoor and outdoor while you enjoy your delicious food/desserts. We had to try their chocolate chip cookie cup with milk in it. Wow! What an unique idea. It was so soft and tasty.
Dominique Ansel Bakery is a must-visit if you love innovative pastries and Instagram-worthy treats. The vibe is cheerful and creative — you can smell the fresh pastries as soon as you walk in. I tried their famous Cronut® (a perfect blend of croissant and doughnut) and it was both airy and crispy, with just the right amount of sweetness. The bakery case is full of other fun desserts too, from fruit tarts to unique seasonal specials that always surprise. It’s definitely a popular spot, so expect a line (especially on weekends), but I think the quality and creativity of the pastries make the wait worth it. Whether you’re grabbing a morning coffee and sweet treat or looking for a special dessert, this place delivers on both flavor and flair.
Long line but at least it's inside so you don't need to wait in the cold. Took about 20mins to get to the front so not bad. The cookie shot is made to order so takes a few minutes to prepare. They pour the shot in front of you which is fun. Then you carry it to the back where there's lots of seating. The cronut flavor of this month is Peach & Lychee. It's incredibly sweet so I actually didn't like it that much, but I think I'd like other less sweet and fruity/jammy flavors, because the flaky pastry itself was great. If was just the jam that was too sweet. My favorite was the DKA. It was my first time having a kouign-aman and that was incredible. Essentially a caramelized croissant. The cookie shot was good but not great. The milk was nice with strong vanilla flavor but the cookie itself had a bit of an off flavor than you'd expect for a cookie, perhaps some additional ingredient to help it's keep it's form. More a cool concept than the best flavor. Overall I applaud the bakery for it's creativity and would try a different flavor of cronut some other time if the line was short, and maybe try their s'mores and macarons next time!
I love this bakery. I was so sad he closed the Los Angeles location. My favorite is the chocolate coconut croissant however I love the cronuts and trying the different flavors. I have discovered my new favorite cronut....It is the February 2026 flavor White Peach and Lychee!! Best cronut of all!!!
The absolute best! There's a reason Chef Ansel was chosen to host a Masterclass. The Cronuts and DKA are delicious, and the Cubano sandwich was arguably one of the best I ever had.
Amazing place. Been a while since I visited. This time I had avo toast for lunch and a pistachio and cherry Mont Blanc. Délicieuse! And Richie was amazing and very helpful!
This is the ultimate destination for high-end luxury pastries. I never knew pastries could be this good. My favorites are the cronuts and the cookie shots - and the Frozen S'more is one of the greatest things on the planet. The items in the pastry case change on a rotational basis and there's always new things to try. They know how to keep the menu interesting and creative. The taste and texture is always amazing - and it's always fresh. The back seating area has great coffee shop vibes, looking onto more seating outdoors with vines growing up an overhead trellis. Jerry Seinfeld was here to film an episode of "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee" with Tina Fey.
Dominique Ansel's confections are so beautiful, it is almost impossible to chose just one. I'm French and, with Christmas and the Epiphany, I was craving some galette des rois. When I arrived, I was delighted to see that they still had some Bûches de Noël available. I ordered both the bûche and the galette and sat at their really cute covered patio in the back where I was able to enjoy my sweet treats in the company of some very polite chubby birds. The bûche was absolutely delicious. It was so creamy that it melted in the mouth. Sadly, the galette was not quite as good. I did not find the authentic taste of a French galette des rois and it was quite oily. It will not stop me from coming back and trying their other pastries and confections. The line tends to get long but it moves fairly fast. I have also been lucky the few times I visited to easily find a place to sit on the patio.
Dominique Ansel Bakery 189 Spring Street New York, New York 10012 Chocolate Chip Cookie Shot Cronut of the Month Dominique’s Kouign Amann Frozen S’more Appearance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Taste: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ In the Soho district lies a small, cottage style bakery. The overwhelming line of customers only speaks volumes to the delicacies that awaited me. Chocolate Chip Cookie Shot: Think of this as literally having a shot of milk with your breakfast. In lieu of a shot glass, you will have an edible cookie cup; it’s pricey, but unique! Cronut of the Month: The cronut is a half donut half croissant pastry. It had a lemon flavor with a tart filling on the inside. Order this soon because the flavor changes each month! Dominique’s Kouign Amann: Ironically, the DKA looks more attractive on the bottom as opposed to the top! Whether you choose to have it regular or upside down, you’ll still taste the flaky layers along with that caramel crunch! Frozen S’more: The frozen s’more has is a unique twist. In lieu of graham crackers, this campfire dessert is filled with gourmet vanilla ice cream. Be sure to eat it right then and there before it melts! It’s a shame I couldn’t eat the wooden stick, too! Aside of the food, I was especially pleased with the fantasic service. Jacob was very prompt and helpful when taking my order. While Yaya was serving my s’more, she gave me a free sample of the home baked cookie; I didn’t even have to ask. Between the unique style of pastries and desserts as well as fast and friendly service, I’ll return in a heartbeat! #dominiqueanselbakery #soho #chocolatechipcookieshot #kouignamann #frozensmore #cronut #cronutofthemonth
Dominique Ansel Bakery is an absolute must-visit in New York. Everything is incredibly fresh, beautifully made, and full of amazing flavor. You can truly taste the quality in every bite. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and make the whole experience even better. Great taste, great atmosphere, and great service, worth every visit.
This place lives up to the hype. I typically avoid the trendy places, but had to see what a DKA and Cronut were all about and YES, ma'am! I will be back for this yumminess again. They also have a little (TEENY) inside seating area and a little patio with some tables out back, along with some regular menu options. Their desserts also look delicious. So many reasons to keep visiting. The DKA - I don't even know how to describe it.... I think they described it as a glazy type croissant. They have samples of it and yep. There is NO eating one bite. The Cronut was interesting.... Not at all what I was expecting, but packed full of fun and flavors. #dominiqueanselbakery #bakery #nyc
I went here with my husband because I saw the video on this place making cronuts. I loved the flavor of the month for the cronut. My husband got the DKA which he absolutely loved but my daughter ate most of it and my daughter got the cookie shot. she didn’t care for the cookie shot, but I think it’s because she’s used to a certain type of milk. The cookie was good, but if you left the milk in too long, the cookie became very soft. It is a hard cookie so if you’re not into crunchy cookies, I wouldn’t get it.
What a wonderful place! It does get a lot of traffic so you way have to wait outside- but in the winter they do offer hand warmers while you are out there! And the sample of their signature pastry the DKA, which is basically a caramelized croissant, was absolutely divine. Their cronut flavor of the month was brownie batter and Colombian coffee - it was delicious and completely worth the wait. We also got their holiday special mini Bûche de Noël in the triple chocolate and sticky toffee pudding flavors to go.
Roaming around in NYC SoHo and this was recommended by ChatGPT, and boy was it was an incredible experience!!! The cronut is definitely worth the hype and really not what I was expecting at all. It’s got a subtle taste of sweetness and creamy texture that I couldn’t get enough of!!! The DKA was also really good too, courtesy to the staff for recommending it. Must visit if you’re in NYC, very much accessible by the subways.
How do you not like this place!! Whatever I order, they taste great! Finally decide to come in early and try out the cronut, the flavor is brownie batter & coffee. It’s pretty good, but so big! I was so full after finishing it by myself, I wish it could be smaller. But great vibe, friendly staffs, nice sitting area too.
Went to Dominique Ansel Bakery today to finally see what the Cronut hype is about 😂 The shop is cute, kinda tight inside, but the little garden area in the back is actually really nice. Tried the famous Cronut — crispy, sugary, nice cream inside… but yeah, it’s kinda pricey lol. Same with the other pastry we got (the purple one in the pic) — looks cool, tastes decent. Something about the place just pulls you in.
Visiting was such a joyful experience. I loved the pumpkin cronut and I do not like pumpkin- it's that good! I also had avo toast which was a work of art and tasted amazing. Eating in flower garden was amazing. But the thing that really stood out was the service. The two men behind the counter were so friendly, patient and helpful- yes in NYC! You could tell they really enjoy what they do. This is a must visit in Soho.
I’m really surprised by the fact that this place only has a 4.3. It definitely deserves much much more. Dominique is a master and it shows in the craft. I remember the first time I ever had the Dominique’s Kouign Amman when they opened up a location in the United Kingdom, and I was smitten. I even had a pack of 24 baked fresh for someone extremely important in my life the very next week. At that time, I tried their cronut for the first time and I was blown away. A lot of people say that it’s too sweet for them, but a classic doughnut is usually pretty sweet. The execution on the pastry is phenomenal. The creativity is world class. We got the breakfast sandwich and the quiche. Both used to techniques in cooking egg that is very difficult to find outside of Paris. The pistachio filled pastry genuinely had the most intense pistachio flavour I have ever had in any item. The Kouign Amann is gorgeous. I absolutely love how the caramelization developed the entirety of the pastry rather than having a thick toffee like layer at the bottom that I find difficult to chew. For me, it is the gold standard. I do wish that the bakery, were set up in a nicer way in terms of the seating. But in the middle of New York City, I can understand that that is difficult given how competitive real estate is, and how big their kitchen needs to be to accommodate a huge variety of excellent pastries that they offer. I did find the outside patio area to be really unique because there were many birds flying around.
While traveling around Manhattan, hitting some bakeries and coffee shops, I stopped in at Dominique Ansel. It came highly recommended, and is the home of the original cronut, so I knew it had to be on the list to visit. There was quite a selection of options, and the cronut was pretty special. They even had a cute little outdoor garden space to sit and enjoy our food. It took them a while to get us everything we ordered, but all in all, I'd recommend giving it a try if you're in the area.
The cookie shots were an awesome experience. The chocolate lining of the cookie melted into the milk and even as a milk hater, this milk was divine. Photo of the Kouign amann does not do it justice; it was literal perfection, with flaky layers and the right amount caramelization. Honestly could’ve skipped the pistachio roll, the pistachio cream and praline filling was just way too much. I can be very critical of hot chocolate and this was 10/10! European, bitter, amazing.
I ordered a cronut online, two weeks in advance, and was able to pick it up in person only to find a relatively small line and a lot of cronuts available (close to closing time). This rendered the whole convoluted online ordering process useless. The cronut itself was a mediocre blend of a donut and a croissant. It felt like a middle-of-the-road version of each, lacking the distinct flavor and texture that make donuts and croissants individually so much more enjoyable. But it was worth it for its novelty, and I advise you to try some of their other pastries while you’re here.
The line was so long! I had to wait for 10-20 minutes, but it was okay. Croissant was alright, and cronut wasn't really as good as I had expected since it's so famous. But salted caramel eclairs was really good! It was my best eclairs I've ever had. The cashier recommended one pastries and I also got one. I don't remember the name of it, but it was really crunchy and tasted so good. If you don't know what to get, just ask them some recommendations!
This was my 3rd time stopping for a treat here. We had a bevy of treats this time. The cookie shot was whimsical and fun but eat it fast before the cookie is too soft. The frozen s’more took the longest to prepare but was worth it! The DKA always great and the cronut was splendid just not my favorite season filling this time. With all that it is a must stop when in SOHO. #doyouknowrex
It had been since 2019 since my last visit to this bakery, and the atmosphere and service have definitely changed. I arrived early expecting a line—there wasn’t one—so I waited around outside with nothing else to do. I even saw Dominique, who used to greet everyone and take selfies, but this time he didn’t acknowledge me at all and left before opening. I get it, he’s busy, but it just felt different. Once the doors opened, I couldn’t have felt less significant. No good morning, no welcome, just a quick what do you want and a comment asking if I really waited outside. I used to look forward to taking the subway there, but on my next trip, I’ll skip it. I genuinely hope things improve. The good news: the Cronuts are still incredible.
I tried the January Cronut flavor which was hojicha Okinawa black sugar. It’s supposed to be a croissant–doughnut hybrid, and while the flavor was good, the texture didn’t quite match the expectation. It was actually pretty hard, and didn’t feel like either a croissant or a doughnut in texture. If you told me this was just a random pastry, I’d say it’s a good pastry — but as a “croissant doughnut,” it didn’t really deliver that signature experience. They usually have long lines, but there are a few seating areas and a cute indoor patio in the back which is nice if you want to sit and enjoy your pastry. I’d come back if I’m in the area, but overall it didn’t feel like anything too crazy or must-have.
Line wasn’t that long when I went but they were still pretty busy. Def try their cronuts!! I must come back for the hojicha cronut before it’s gone - Hojicha & Okinawa black sugar cronut (January special): 11/10, I LOVE hojicha, and the cream filling has a strong hojicha flavor. Their hojicha is sourced from kettle. Texture was really soft and pillowy, and I’m not even usually a donut or cream donut fan esp. On the sweeter side bc it’s a donut but not like THAT sweet. MUST GET before they don’t make it anymore - Pain au chocolat: 6/10, I had high hopes for this bc it looks really good and flakey, but it wasn’t crispy or flakey on the outside at all. Inside texture was similar to a Costco croissant :/ very dark chocolatey. Highly disappointed
Ansel Bakery is a true NYC classic! Their Cronut is really good, a little too sweet for me, but still delicious. I love their cookie shot with the milk inside! There’s plenty of seating toward the back, which is nice. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit. Definitely worth checking out at least once, they have lots of other great treats too!
The birds in the covered outdoor seating area feeld a bit unhygienic. They fluff their feather around and also discard their waste. I am not sure if birds are intentional cause the staff didn't do anything about it ( 2 of them came in to deliver drinks and tell people to wait outside for food, another guy cleaned tables). I saw a guy cleaning the table but didn't see any sweeping of the floor. There was no line at 11am on a Sunday. The cronut had yuzu oozing out. I feel like it is on the dry and stale side. Might be better when they are fresh ( right at opening). The cookie shot is a neat concept but not worth the hype. It is just a chocolate chip cookies line with chocolate. The blooming hot chocolate is creative but unfortunately very sweet. I wish it came in a smaller size. They were unable to make it as mocha and said the best they could do is an espresso shot on the side
Disappointing Service Experience I had a disappointing experience at this bakery, primarily due to the service. I ordered the signature hot chocolate, and while I was waiting, one of the staff members yelled at my friends, saying, "I'm holding it, guys, so hurry up and take a picture," while dropping the toppings on my drink. It felt extremely rude, especially since there was only one other group behind us, so it wasn't a busy time. Unfortunately, the cronut was sold out, so we missed out on trying that. Although there were plenty of seats available in the back, I don’t think I’ll be returning.
A cute bakery with plenty of seating in the back. We got three options which one was the marshmallow, an apple struedal pastry and one that was carmalized. The marshmallow was unique and something my friend picked out (very messy and gooey), the apple pastry was just ok, and my favorite was the mini Bundt cake which had an amazing carmelized flavor.
I bought the mando pasion fruit pavloa and I was expecting a delicious dessert, but the pavloa wasn't good. The cream inside didn't taste like passion fruit at all The only good thing was the mango in the center. The cookie and the donut were tasty, but oh well The service was very good.
TLDR: 3.5 stars, liked the cronut texture but didn’t get the flavor. Cookie shot is good but also fairly expensive I liked the texture of the cronut, like a thin deep fried doughnut. However I didn’t know what the flavor on top of the cronut was, it didn’t taste like anything specific. The cookie made into a cylinder with some vanilla milk inside was a fun play on cookies and milk but for almost $7, seemed a bit costly as well.
Firstly, I want to say that I am on a mission to try out as many different chocolate chip cookies as I can. It's a passion project of mine. Dominique Ansel is iconic and their cronut was amazing. It's a perfectly done pastry. The other items were lacking. The chocolate chip cookies were underbaked, still raw dough and had little to no chocolate in them. I expected more for sure. So good for the OG and stick to the cronuts.
Fair but nothing to write home about. The famed DKA (Dominique Kouign Amann) pales in comparison to the ones at La Maison d'lsabelle of Paris which won best croissant in Paris of 2018. The flavor of the DKA has a balanced caramel sweetness. However, the dough lacks enough butter and the shape prevents it from being crispy all across the outside, it's not a flat circle but poofy. The cronut is fun (although the icing makes it too sweet) and the watermelon sorbet refreshing. Service is professional. The atmosphere in the garden is especially airy.
This place is huge disappointment. Dirty, ceiling leaking rain on table we sat at , boxes everywhere inside the place, dirty tables.... Cronat was good to be fair and worth trying but only one flavour on offer . At some point this chef was good and then things went downhill from there.... AVOID
Stopped by Dominique Ansel Bakery in NYC hoping to try the famous cronut, but it honestly didn’t live up to the hype. The pastry itself was fine, but nothing particularly special or memorable, especially considering the long lines and the buzz around it. The bakery space is cute and well-kept, but the overall experience felt underwhelming. With so many other fantastic bakeries in the city, this one definitely isn’t worth going out of your way for. Prices are way too high, also personnel didnt seem very friendly.
The service is very amiable, but the establishment is not as dedicated to quality as they used to be. They seem to have gone a more lucrative / corporate route that compromises on the goods meeting their former standards. I think if you order a specific thing for an occasion that is made fresh it might be decent, and the croissants might still be good, but the last three times I’ve come here have been disappointing. This last time I got a $13 pavlova that was sloppily plated for me with multiple petals missing (they fell off in the case) and tasted stale. The cream wasn’t fresh and felt greasy, buttery and refrigerated. It was bad enough that between two people we couldn’t finish it. There are smaller bakeries in the city that make better pastries and baked goods at a lower price because they’re not resting on the laurels that Dominique Ansel is clearly snoozing on. It’s a shame that the temptation to maximize profit has come for them too.
Beautiful pastries but did not live up to the hype We got the cronut (brownie and coffee flavor) and a mango dessert. The cronut is mediocre, and makes you wish you were just eating a donut instead. The mango pastry is a white fluff encased in a clear passionfruit jello layer that we removed, and our initial reactions to the dessert were disappointment.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The cake was a bit too sweet for my preference and lacked some depth of flavor. I also didn’t taste much matcha. The macarons were fairly standard
Disclaimer: I came near closing time and I’ve heard that there’s a big difference in quality between early visits and late visits, with items tasting better earlier in the day. We got a DKA (Dominique’s kouign amann) and a cronut and it ended up being almost $16. The flavors of the two were good but neither were flaky at all. No flakes to be found. I was very disappointed in the lack of croissant texture. I don’t think I will return as I didn’t enjoy the “must-try” items and it was expensive. The waiter was also nice but the person manning the register was kind of rushing to get us out of the restaurant.
This is my favorite place to go, as of lately it’s been driving me away, the consistency is not always there, it’s a hit or miss with the cronuts. Quality has gone down drastically Slow employees. You can’t hire tourist to run a New York City shop they just don’t have the experience with 2nd wave or the capacity to work. No sense of urgency here. Waited a long time on the line just for my favorite to be sold out!
I cannot even begin to express my disappointment… I used to go to the one at Grove in Beverly Hills, so stopping by this one used to be my travel plans for long time ever since the one at grove closed (due to covid). I finally got here, and sigh… i got peach lychee cronut and DKA. Honestly, both were terrible. Maybe my expectation was too high? It just didn’t match up to the pastries I’ve had at Beverly branch. Having only one cronut flavor was sad… and the filling was too sweet. I did not like it. Both cronut and DKA layers tasted dry and almost stale. I almost wanted to believe maybe I got an old one from their storage by mistake… I flew all the way from Cali, and left extremely disappointed. I hope it used to be better.
