Opinions de La Sirène New York
I went here last week with a friend for the first day of Restaurant Week. We had a reservation for 6:30pm and were seated right away. It was a weekday night, so there were only a few people in the restaurant, so the atmosphere was quite relaxed. Service was attentive but there was no feeling of being rushed at any point during our meal. In terms of the food itself, we both enjoyed our meal choices from the Restaurant Week menu. We were served complimentary bread which was a bit hard to tear and bite into, though the butter was good. I went with the foie gras au torchon as the starter, braised rabbit dijonnaise as the main, and choux chantilly as my dessert. My friend got the ravioles, the magret de canard, and the croquant au caramel. The foie gras was good as was the braised rabbit. The choux chantilly was simple but solid dessert to finish the meal. Our mains came with a variety of vegetables on the side which were delicious. Overall, for my first experience here, I think this is a solid restaurant and I wouldn't mind coming back to try other items. I would recommend the Restaurant Week menu for those who think French cuisine is inaccessible, as $60 seems like a fair value to try dishes that are normally priced at more than half of that (for ex., foie gras usually costs $40+). Also note that they do take other major credit cards, not just Amex!
My wife and I are here on Thurs. For the appetizer we had the ravioli with Comte and my wife ate the Goat cheese tart. Her dish was extraordinary. It was perfectly seasoned. My ravioli dish was excellent but could have used a slight pinch of salt. Our mains were the steak and the cassoulet. The steak was cooked perfectly the flavor of the sauce was divine. My cassoulet was perfect. I told the waiter it was good to know I could find great cassoulet outside of Carcassonne. The tarte tatin for dessert was heavenly. The tart came out warm and the ice cream just melted over it truly magical. This place has BYOB option which was perfect because we had a left bank Bordeaux which was the perfect accompaniment to an extraordinary dinner. The service was very professional and relaxed. No rush just a relaxed environment. The atmosphere is date night. If you want to romance your partner and have phenomenal food, this is a great place! Subdued lighting warm decor and low noise with soft music in the background are icing on the cake. Highly recommend!
Beautiful little bistro, the escargot were absolutely perfect as was my rack of lamb. We had a lovely late night meal there, and were the last customers but did not feel rushed. Service was attentive but relaxed
Wow. Went last night with my book club and we had an excellent time. Wonderful helpful staff. A quirky menu with some French classics and unexpected items all executed perfectly. I loved the Parisian gnocchi (which is not at all like the italian version!) others enjoyed the cassoulet, steak au poivre and vegetarian(!) French onion soup. Great desserts too. Perfect place for a quiet dinner.
I came to La Sirene in Soho during restaurant week and I was so pleasantly surprised! Although I've been to other French restaurants in nyc, my visit to La Sirene felt like the most authentic experience I could have outside of France. I tried escargot for the first time, which I thoroughly enjoyed, tried foie gras, and my salmon, that sat in a delicate saffron sauce was great. Even the cocktails we had were so delicious and balanced. Those were some of the best lemon drops I've had in my life. I'll be back with my bf for sure!
So good. I was hoping for a good restaurant week in SoHo and this exceeded expectations. The food was excellent and the service/ambience was wonderful as well. The truffle ravioli are to die for and the escargot/both steaks (hanger & filet) were delectable. I couldn’t recommend it more. My bestie and I were so satisfied with the meal and the sweet treat at the end was the perfect finale (the mango sorbet was great).
Wow… just wow. One of the best meals I’ve had in NYC. My best friend and I went for Restaurant Week and devoured everything. I’m still dreaming about the ravioli and escargot from the appetizer selection. Filet mignon and hanger steaks were chefs kiss. Even the dessert was very light and dreamy. Honestly one of the best deals for Restaurant Week ~~ perfect for trying a bunch of dishes, especially if you’re with a friend or group. Even outside of Restaurant Week, I’ll be back. Service was amazing, restaurant was clean. Already excited to go back!
Really great French restaurant! To be honest, I was surprised at how much I liked it. I like French food but I tend to find it a little bit... traditional, not a lot of places stand out. The food here was great, it was definitely one of the best French restaurants I've been to and I've been to Paris! I went here with a friend and we tried several dishes. The standouts to me were the baked goat cheese tart (delicious!), the French ravioli, the filet mignon, and the banana crème brûlée. The filet mignon was probably one of the best steaks I've had. It was perfectly cooked medium rare, very well seasoned, and very tender. I love all things banana so the banana crème brûlée was fantastic. Prices are a little on the high side so it is more of a special treat type of place. I don't think it's overpriced because the food was very well made and clearly had a ton of effort and care put into it. I think it's definitely worth it but it is not a cheap meal. Service was great as well, we were in a bit of a rush because we had a show to go to after, and they very accommodating. Only other thing to mention, the website says that for credit cards they only take AMEX but when I was there I overheard someone asking and they were told that they take all major credit cards. Might be a recent change? It is worth calling to make sure. Definitely recommend, and I hope to be back sometime!
La Serene is hands down our favorite neighborhood spot ,a classic French bistro with charm, warmth, and consistently wonderful food. The dishes are beautifully executed, with that timeless Parisian flair. Their seared foie gras is, in our opinion, the best in New York City ,rich, velvety, and unforgettable. We came back yesterday to try their Restaurant Week menu and were honestly so impressed ,it’s such a great value, and the quality hasn’t skipped a beat. We had a small hiccup with one empty escargot (it happens!), but the kitchen immediately prepared extra three for us, which was such a thoughtful touch. That kind of care really says everything about the team here. Service is always fast, kind, and flexible. They truly make you feel welcome. The atmosphere is calm, cozy, and gently romantic ,it feels like a little escape to Paris, right in SoHo. If you’re looking for an authentic, unfussy, and truly delightful French dining experience, La Serene is the one. We recommend it to all our friends and always come back ourselves🦪🍷🥖 Oh and always ask for extra veggie plate for the main course! They are the best!
One of the more famous French places in the city and finally tried it out. Food is very good! The escargot and cold served foie gras were very tasty. We also tried the daily catch which was a red snapper, and the skin was so crispy. The house hanger steak is also cooked to perfection with a great sauce. And last but definitely not the least, I love the delicate candied floss on the cream puff, definitely a highlight and a good presentation of patisserie.
Extremely high quality French restaurant!! I went there with my friend for dinner on a week day night. We got the Roasted Escargots, Seared Foie Gras with Balsamic Duck Glaze and Sea Bass as the fish of the day. The Foie Gras is absolutely amazing, perfectly sheared and sauced. The escargots are very tasty accompanied with garlic. The fish is also super flavorful with crispy skin. Very elegant atmosphere with great service. 100% recommend!!
My best friend came down from upstate New York to visit me. She’s pretty land locked and has limited dining options. Being that she’s not the most adventurous eater but willing to try whatever I get, we decided on French food. We sat quickly but our waitress had a bit of an attitude IMO. I ordered the streak tartare and we devoured it in minutes. She even tried it and was pleasantly surprised. She had ravioles and I had duck. Her dish was rich and heavy. The duck was outstanding and cooked to perfection. The Michigan cranberry glaze was the perfect touch.
AMAZING. Marty and Anna are the most gorgeous, fabulous, hospitable people you could ever meet. The food is impeccable with service to match. I brought friends and family here and I couldn’t have impressed them more! The restaurant week menu is a value beyond belief, and the regular menu I’d pay double for! The food is fresh and eclectic, not an overly posh vibe and it’s perfect for anyone visiting or otherwise. I’ve been here twice in a month since trying to and I’ll absolutely be back. The food and service is a dream, the servers go out of their way to make the experience for you. Thank you Marty! Special shout out to him for just being him! 10/10- La Sirene owes me NOTHING!
Incredible French food; genuinely better than what I've had in Paris. The escargots are cooked to perfection (5/5), the filet mignon (5/5) is fall apart tender and the sauce is a perfect balance of sweet, acidic, and savory. And of course the caramel dessert is incredible as well. This place is truly a gem.
If you want to visit France without leaving the city this is the place. You will be completely submerged into culinary and cultural experience. The food the atmosphere is perfect for date dinner night. I really enjoyed their service and dishes. I would recommend reservation as it can be tough to get there, especially on a weekend
Went here for an anniversary with my partner and it was fantastic. The atmosphere is very cozy and romantic, and the food was incredible. We had the escargot and goat cheese tart to start, and both were great, but the goat cheese tart was a standout. My partner ordered the rack of lamb, and I had Tournedos Rossini, and both were outstanding. Very flavorful and rich. We had the banana brûlée and Iles Flottantes for dessert and both of those were great as well, but the illes flottantes stood out. I 100% would come back.
