Opinions de Ear Inn New York
They happily accommodated my party of 8 visitors from UK-everyone liked the food and the service was friendly. The shepherds pie was awesome! If you like an old school pub feel and don't mind it being a bit warm (no ac?), this is a unique NYC spot.
Crowded, noisy but lots of good vibes.
The best Guinness in NYC. Don’t fall for other more touristy Irish bars. This was hands down the best in town. The place was hiving and we had a lot of craic with some of the regulars on our honeymoon.
Old school shipyard bar dating back to 1823. Really really cool place. The food is amazing too. Hot garlic shrimp, meatballs, really everything on the menu is good. A lot to look at and take in while enjoying your food or beverage. Super friendly staff. Great outdoor seating area with tons of room. The original architecture and some of the original memorabilia inside is simply amazing. The neon sign outside lights up around 545ish and it spells BAR... however the B isn't fully lit up and it is lit as an E... making the sign read EAR. Pretty neat.
Was super crowded because of the holidays. It was fun tho. Will go back when not so crowded
Solid downtown spot - great people and consistent food and drink. Sundays there is a live band. Be sure to read the front of the menu about the history of Ear Inn!
Great jam session every Sunday night with Jon Eric Kelso & the EarRegulars.
Came for drinks after event in Tribeca. Classic NYC bar, I hear the food is pretty good, and they have live music. Waitresses were friendly! Small city business that prob deals with a lot of fees and regulations, so go support them.
There is NO place in the world like The Ear Inn. It is always welcoming & is a local to many - from those round the block to visitors from across the world. Fantastic affordable yummy food, excellent jovial staff. Martin Gary and all are unique and a big slice of New York history. Enjoy!!
Historic, charming, great service, good drinks! Why wouldn't you want to go to the Ear Inn!!
Great local bar, crowd Friday 700pm but we were able to get seated while having drinks. Cost for beers and Dinner 2 people very responsible. Nice historical location as one of the oldest bars in the city.
Pretty cool old bar with tons of history behind it. The bartenders were hustling and despite that made every customer still feel important and welcome. The food was also pretty good and came out quickly even with it being so busy.
Great historic spot for food and drinks
Among the NYC’s oldest bars, it’s a timeless, local gem that is very much worth a visit
Felt very much like an English or Cornish pub, very relaxed and cozy
Sunday night, the Ear Regulars jazz quartet performing. The audience in the music area is silent and attentive. The friends in the back room dining area are talking quietly, negligible sound. The bartender completes his appointed mixtures swiftly and expertly. Yes five stars.
The food looks fantastic, I had already eaten but will definitely be back & try the food.Went for drinks
This place feels like you’re walking into an old friend’s living room… if your friend happened to be 200 years old and full of wild stories. The atmosphere is cozy, the drinks are solid, and you can just feel the history in the walls
One of the classic old bars in NYC, dating back to 1817. It used to be on the waterfront and boats would tie up outside. It has about 10 beers on tap and food. Lots of things to look at on the walls, outdoor seating as well. The outside sign used to just say “BAR” but (from the bartender) there was a guy using an upstairs room who for many years published a local happenings paper called the “Ear” and someone covered up the rounded part of the B on the neon sign and it now says EAR instead of BAR
Fun, lively bar that serves solid food too! It's a loud, festive setting so don't go expecting a quiet night. You can feel the history and old-school NYC vibes in this place. Staff was awesome, they're actually all the family of the owners so they have a big interest in the place.
Such a special and historical place. Shout out to Shaun for making me feel like home!
Neighborhood bar with great food. Close tables and lots of talking but fun.
The Ear Inn is a small gem which is a part of history and serves good food as well. We had a great time on our visit especially because of the service that we got from our waitress. The drinks were very tasty and the environment was warm and comfortable. The place is rather small and it gets quite crowded so we were happier to sit in the back room; it was quite full when we exited. The front part of the room was lively with the England vs Spain Copa game on and made the place even more lively. The menu is rather limited, but there are some tasty choices such as garlic shrimp, dim sum style dumplings and good old fashioned burgers. The staff, including Martin and Gary, are quite attentive and make this place feel even more like a part of New York. I would strongly suggest to try it out for a nice meal and a good time!
Authentic Dive Bar. Great place to grab a beer, watch a game, or enjoy some talented musicians. This bar is a time warp with great food, great service, and cold drinks. Is it haunted? Maybe. But even the ghosts here are fun to hang out with. ________________ ✅Weight loss specialist. ⭐Use This Weight Loss Hack And You Will Almost Always Lose Weight! Instagram👉 @slims_pro
Had an amazing time and the service was the best. The Lamb Burger was delicious, the mixture of seasonings and the right amount of spicy and having it medium rare was the best suggestion ever! Ask for Caroline, she will make your visit worth while! Very attentive and made my night with her amazing energy!
We had an outstanding Sunday evening. Bobby is an attentive bartender despite the numerous happy crowd of regulars at the bar; the food was tasty and the musicians memorable.
Amazing service that makes you feel truly welcome. The employees deliver flawless experiences. This place impresses with good meals, fair costs and helpful service. I'd heard rumors about Ear Inn being great and they were right. The uniqueness of this restaurant is striking.
Reviewers mention that this place feels like the old New York City. I wasn't around in those days, but stopping through Manhattan I rolled around Hudson Square for a bite to eat and a cold beer and this place spoke to me. This is a very historically-significant bar; I recommend reading about it. The area is very quiet for Manhattan, and this space offers a cozy bar with food options and plenty of outdoor seating. Late at night, the entrance is suffused with the glow of a red neon sign and it sets a great mood. The beer selection is quite good; they have some popular favorites as well as some local beers. I recommend grabbing a pint and moving to sit outside if you're like me and didn't order any food. Bartenders and staff are friendly, and many of the patrons seemed to be regulars.
The best place for a cocktail and conversation! Jazz on Sundays. And when you don't want to cook you can get a perfect no fuss meal. A neighborhood staple. We sit outside all the time. The best!
Nostalgic and homey. In and of New York City but apart like its own small town. Great food, great beer, history, music, vibes… and some of the best bartenders in the business. My father brought me here first and every time I am back it hits the spot.
This is one of the very few places that still captured and preserved the "old spirit " of NY. Considered the date when this place established it was able to do so for few hundreds of years. The place has a vibrant collection of locals who seems to have this place for socializing., the place provides you with crayons and playing cards while you are waiting for your order, but it seems lots of people just keep entertaining themselves and after meal is over. The place is crowded and a bit loud, but this is expected from such place. The wings were very good, they are baked instead of fry and literally falling from bones. I also really enjoyed their chicken pie and fried dumplings. We walked in and waiting time was about 5 minutes, not sure if they get reservations.
You are not coming to Ear Inn for the Instagram Photos (or you may be kicked out or spit on...)... You are coming for a taste of history and an even more incredible taste of food, if you have the opportunity! I watched enough YouTube videos about every place I "planned" to visit on my trip and this was no exception. The second oldest bar in NYC and the history of this place deserves it's own attention, so go look at YouTube for yourselves. The owner, Gary, was the bartender the day I was there. I did not need to re-watch the YT video to realize this immediately upon walking in based on his incredibly strong, yet empathetic and deep down, softie personality. He had all the flavor of someone who has dealt with everything and I loved it. The bar regulars were exactly that and their love for their favorite spot was so evident in their energy and enthusiasm for it all. Now, let's discuss the Chicken Pot Pie... I have always been a fan of the CPP, but there is a level of "homemade" vs "ok this is good"... This was the homemade vibe all the way home and I am pretty sure they put an entire chicken worth of chicken in it. It was everything it could have been and you could tell it was made with love. THIS is a hidden gem in a hidden gem.
Wow, what an incredible experience at the legendary Ear Inn! 🤩 From the moment I stepped inside, I felt like I'd been transported to another era – it's pretty surreal to enjoy some food & drink in a space that's been serving patrons since 1817. Biggest surprise? The food! The fried pork and chive dumplings were out of this world. Seriously, the best dumplings I've ever had. Crispy, flavorful, and perfectly paired with their dipping sauce and some incredibly "horseradishey" English mustard. I highly encourage double-dipping in both and washing it down with an ice cold draft beer. The service was also top-notch. Colin was friendly & attentive and shared some fascinating stories. This place has a classic NYC charm that you just can't find in newer establishments. You can feel the history in the walls and see the relics they've accumulated over the years. If you're looking for a truly authentic NYC experience with great food, cold drinks, and a fantastic vibe, make sure the Ear Inn is on your list.
I didn’t want to leave a comment because I can only say great things about this unique place…hopefully it does not turn into a very touristic place (maybe it is already.. i didn’t have this feeling). It’s an “hidden” bar with wonderful atmosphere, food is good (typical American dishes… hamburger and fried stuff), personal is smiley and gentile. There is also live music, but we missed it. Fantastic night!
Historic AND delicious food?!? YES! We had a delightful time at the Ear Inn - our waitress was amazing! Great drinks, great atmosphere. The place is small, and it does get crowded. We sat in the back room, which was empty when we arrived (2pm) and packed by the time we left. We loved it. Up front, by the bar, the England vs Spain Copa game was on, the place was lively!
This is a great place with a bit of history. The drinks were good, and their menu is shot and precise. We went there around 9 p.m., where the crowd was spilling outside. But we were called back in within 10 min as tables cleared. The drinks were good, the wings were great. The burgers were ok.

We stumbled upon a great finds! The Ear Inn, second oldest bar in Manhattan, was so welcoming. It was a great atmosphere with a good choice of cold beer.
great pub! service was very good, live jazz music also very entertaining. Will def go back and prob try the food.
Great food great ambiance obscure location but it adds to it. turkey burger was solid and everything else looked like you couldn't go wrong.
Awesome bar, good food and friendly atmosphere! A place to meet friends and listen to live music. Check it out if your in SoHo
I love this place and come everything I'm in the city. I had the burger this time and it's really good meat and good value. They also can pour Guinness properly.

Wow! I can't praise this place enough. One of the best bars / restaurants I've ever been to. Classic, historic, timeless, and beautiful. Try to visit on a night with live music if you can

Such an old school spot. Great food, beers and atmosphere. One of the only places that can claim his historical title. Ask for Gary! He’ll look after you.

Great pub/restaurant with great, fresh food and fantastic drinks. We really enjoyed coming to The staff was very kind and caring. We will definitely come back
Cool, very old historic bar in the So Ho district. The staff was welcoming, the hamburger and beer were delicious, prices reasonable. Would be back if in the area.
Beautiful bar that basically everyone knows about. I loved coloring while being with friends. It's true: the table is re-lined with paper and each table has crayons to draw on the table. It's otherwise a classic watering hole that is a magnet for New Yorkers yearning for places to meet people.
Good beer . Authentic place. Very old bar with many craps on the walls and even ceiling. If its wasnt pandemic all around the world i want be even attantion to point how glasses are washed. Its only rinse in water... No soap, no dishwasher... Its how its looks like on bar. But place for sure has charisma.
Good food, very good drinks, wonderful casual atmosphere. It is loud and small but very casual and unpretentious. I'll be back for drinks.
Nothing fancy and no exotic beers on tap but it is a great little dive bar that’s still worth a visit for the history alone. The guys behind the bar are a friendly crew and will keep your pint full. And the food isn’t bad either - I had the garlic shrimp as a starter and a burger and both were solid. I’d go back if I were in the area.
Although it was not technically the best burger I’ve ever had, it had great flavor and was well made. The price was great especially for New York City; I bought a burger with a side of potatoes for around $10. The staff was also friendly and attentive. If I were in the neighborhood again I would definitely go back!
We’ve come to The Ear Inn many times for cocktails ,it’s one of our go-to spots to catch the sunset with a drink in hand. The vibe is always relaxed, the view is lovely, and there’s a timeless charm to the place. But tonight was the first time we decided to dine inside and we’re so glad we did. On Sundays from 8pm, they have live music, and we happened to get a beautiful table right in front of the band. It felt intimate, authentic, and full of life. We ordered the New York strip and a classic burger, both were perfectly cooked and satisfying in that no-fuss, well-done kind of way. The cocktails, as always, were spot on. But they do everyday special as well! Don’t forget to ask ! The interior brings you back in time , warm wood, old-school bar details, and a lived-in coziness that reminds you this is one of the oldest bars in New York City. It feels like a piece of local history , not polished or pretentious, just real and full of character. It’s the kind of place that feels like your neighborhood’s secret backyard , somewhere you can relax, hear good music, and enjoy good company. We’re really glad we finally experienced the full Ear Inn charm. Can’t wait to come back
A very, very old structure by NYC standards (1817; be sure to read the "James Brown House" historic landmark plaque if you like history). Walked here from Pier 26 Downtown Boathouse on a cold damp November day with paddling friends. We had just paddled to and circumnavigated Ellis Island and stopped on our way back for drinks and grub. We sat outside despite the cold and had a hot toddy, hot cider w/whisky and I thoroughly enjoyed a chicken pot pie, which was delicious and hit the spot---especially after hours on the water on top of a paddle board. The Gent waiting on us had the appearance of possibly being the owner or manager and showed a lot of interest in what we had been doing. Looking forward to returning.
Loveeee this spot for a post work happy hour or a cozy night for drinks! Great chicken pot pie, great service and LOVE that you can color on the tables. Will absolutely be back!

The history of this bar begins with James Brown, an aide to George Washington and supposedly featured in the famous painting The Crossing of the Delaware. It's one of the oldest bars in Manhattan. The inside looks old and unremarkable, but not historical in the sense that other current owners of old taverns have preserved the integrity of their properties. I found the bartender attentive, but the waitress with short brown hair quite rude and unfriendly, and when we asked for seats and were contemplating eating, we were never approached for our food order again or given menus. So we quietly finished our beers and left...never to return.

Server yelled at me for going to the bar to get a drink. She took forever to come by and never came by after that until we got up to leave. Why get mad at me when you never came by? That being said, one of the other servers was incredibly nice and he told us to essentially not worry about her.
Service was very good but the food was just eeh. I got the Cobb salad and my chicken on it was burnt.
Beware: serial jacket stealing locale. The management and staff could care less than pour an unremarkable draft. Their response? “It happens here all the time.”
Come for the history, NOT the bar service! Colin the bartender was by far the rudest server I have ever come across. We walked in, not seeing the chalkboard with the beer listings, so we asked if they had two particular beers (which they didn’t have). Colin proceeded to talk to a patron seated right in front of us and said with attitude, “What’s going on with people today? Are they giving out psychedelic drugs before they walk in here?” He then told us to look at the chalkboard. Needless to say, we left soon thereafter.

I recently visited Ear Inn in NYC with a couple of friends, and it was an incredibly disappointing experience. From the moment we were seated, we were placed near a table that was loud, rowdy, and disruptive. Despite the chaotic atmosphere around us, we were the ones who were scolded for raising our voices, while the other tables remained unchecked. The lack of consistency in the staff's handling of the situation made us feel unfairly persecuted. Frustrated by the poor service and uncomfortable environment, we decided to leave early. It's a shame because the bar has a great location and potential, but the service was a major letdown.
Music is great but the burger was really tasteless and greasy
Just coming from Ear Inn(12/08/25). I went there with my bf today and one of the staff she was trying something else with my bf and let me tell you that was inappropriate in front of me. I will never go to that place ever again. I would never try to do any kind of false interaction with my guests coming to my restaurant, specially those who comes with their women.
