I had such an amazing time celebrating my friend's birthday! The whole staff is very welcoming and made my friend feel special and cared for. I had the steak tacos which were flavorful and packed with meat, they also came with rice and beans which I feel it is hard to find in the city. Their drinks were also balanced and they used well made tequila. I will be going back for sure!

I’ve been to La Contenta many times for brunch after my VXN dance workout class, but this one was extra special as we celebrated my friend and my birthdays! The team surprised us with a personalized tropical themed menu with our names on it. The food and drinks were amazing, but what really stood out was how fun and welcoming the staff made the day. Can’t recommend this place enough!Can’t wait to come back.

Amazing and legitimate Mexican food. I’ve always been with a large group (VXN dance community) and the service was also perfect! The first time, I went for dinner and got the carnitas and al pastor tacos, and the second time I went for brunch and got the chilaquiles. Both times the food and drinks were amazing and the service top-notch! Definitey coming back! Pictured is the Mai Tai I got for brunch (it was part of a special menu for our large group).

This was the perfect spot for a date night with my girlfriend. The atmosphere was calm and tranquil, and the staff were welcoming and very attentive throughout the evening. We started with the guacamole—definitely a 10/10—then had the Hanger Steak and Salmon, both full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The drinks were on point and complemented the meal really well. Highly recommend this place for a delicious and romantic night out.

Food, service and drinks were on point. We were celebrating my friends birthday. Went just to grab a bit to eat and ended up staying for several hours. Staff is very attentive here and pays attention to details. First time having mole and it was really good. My steak quesadilla was exceptional. The meat had a grill smoky flavor, soo good. The drinks are awesome all of them. They also have great mocktails. I'm definitely going back. Oh and the decor beautiful.

I loved being at this restaurant! The food is super delicious with a lot of Mexican flavor. I went with my friends and we had a very nice time. The service from the guys was super good and very kind. Andres, Steven and Jesus Mexican served us. Very friendly and helpful. We will definitely come back. Thank you guys!!!

Very cute place with a smiling friendly staff! I celebrated my friends surprise bday with the staff bringing a cake and singing happy birthday for her!! ❤️❤️❤️ We got chicken quesadillas, shrimp enchiladas and The Mayan cocktail. Everything was too good.

Everyone was great! Love the ambiance! The people were attentive and friendly. Would def recommend to anyone looking for a spot to go hang out and try amazing food to visit this location. Obscenely small portion of chips. Salsa tasted like ketchup! Birria tacos literally were just beef tacos. No lime with my fish tacos. Pretty disappointing after seeing so many positive reviews

This Mexican joint in West Village is Mexican owned and operated and open late!!! Classic calavera decor with paper cutouts and loteria, extensive drink menu with exotic flavors. What enticed me about this menu is the choice of ingredients. We got a quesadilla for the table that was delish, a guac and chips and salsa, I ordered a vegan pozole and a mole verde, my friends the chicken mole and carnitas tacos. Vegan pozole was good, chicken mole was good, carnitas meh and mole verde was a sad site. They used the same sauce from the pozole, and it was DEFFFFFF frozen veggies with the frozen flavor. Bleh. Drinks were good got a cacao sour and mezcal negronis. I think their small bites and late night menu is better.

My friend and I decided to check out La Contenta Oeste at 1:30pm on a Saturday. We made reservations, and the restaurant was decently crowded, so I would recommend reservations. We were seated at an oddly located 2-top table that seemed to be in the way of anyone walking by. I personally think the interior could use a bit of an upgrade for the vibe I think this restaurant is going for. The bar area seems very bougie, but the rest of the restaurant is not. We ordered the guacamole ($16), huevos rancheros ($17), and quesadilla ($17). The guacamole was tasty, but I thought the chips were a tad oily and tough. I could have demolished the guac with some Tostitos. My friend ordered the quesadilla and mentioned the most distinguishing factor was the use of oaxaca cheese, which elevated the taste. I thought the huevos rancheros were good, but nothing special. I think if the chips are made the same way as the tortillas, I just don't like the way this restaurant makes them / the source they are bought from. Service was great, albeit a tad aggressive. However, it was not aggressive to push us out! It seemed like the staff was striving to be extremely hospitable. For example, I still had my fork in my hand and a bit of beans and a slice of egg left, and one of the staff tried to take my plate away. After this, they still refilled our waters, so that's how I know they were not trying to kick us out. Overall, I think prices are reasonable for the location, so it's a solid spot to check out in the area.

Came here with some friends on a random Tuesday, place wasn’t packed. However, servers were rushing us to leave. Wasn’t even done with my food and drink and asked if they could take the plates and cups. Server repeatedly asked to take my cup even though I wasn’t finished with the drink and I felt rushed. So I ended up quickly drinking it just so I could leave.

I am leaving this review because what occurred here goes beyond poor service. this was an unauthorized charge that constitutes potential credit card fraud. My partner and I dined at La Contenta. Our bill was approximately $70 total, including food and drinks, with a standard tip added. There is absolutely no scenario in which this bill should have resulted in a $200 charge. We did not discover the overcharge until later, when the bank statement was reviewed. That makes this even more serious. Key issues: The staff was disorganized and sketchy during payment No receipt was provided at the time of payment The amount charged does not match what was authorized This is not a “mistake.” A $60 bill does not legally turn into a $200 charge without disclosure, consent, or a receipt. Charging three times the agreed amount is ILLEGAL and UNETHICAL Food-wise: • Chicken quesadilla and steak tacos were lukewarm to cold, as if they had been sitting • Flavor was decent and had potential, but temperature ruined the dishes The water served had visible particles, which is why it was not consumed Cocktails were the only consistently acceptable part of the experience This situation needs to be taken seriously by management. Unauthorized overcharging and failing to provide receipts is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about business practices. I will be reaching out to my bank as well as the BBB. I strongly advise anyone dining here to check their bank statements immediately after visiting and demand a receipt before leaving. No one should have to discover a fraudulent charge after the fact.
